1 Now, these, are the sons of the province, who came up from among the captives of the exile, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon exiled to Babylon, —who came back unto Jerusalem and Judah, every one unto his own city;
These are the people in the province who went up from the captivity of King Nebuchadnezzar, who had exiled them in Babylon, the people who returned to each of their cities of Jerusalem and in Judea.
2 who came in with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Seraiah, Reelaiah, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispar, Bigvai Rehum, Baanah, —the number of the men of the people of Israel: —
They came with Zerubbabel, Joshua, Nehemiah, Seraiah, Reelaiah, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispar, Bigvai, Rehum, and Baanah. This is the record of the men of the people of Israel.
3 The sons of Parosh, two thousand one hundred and seventy-two;
The descendants of Parosh: 2,172.
4 The sons of Shephatiah, three hundred and seventy-two;
The descendants of Shephatiah: 372.
5 The sons of Arah, seven hundred and seventy-five;

6 The sons of Pahath-moab, belonging to the sons of Jeshua, Joab, two thousand eight hundred and twelve;

There were 392 total descendants of those assigned to serve in the temple and descendants of Solomon's servants.
59 And, these, were they who came up from Tel-melah, Tel-harsha, Cherub, Addan, Immer; but they could not tell their ancestral house, nor their seed, whether, of Israel, they were:

60 the sons of Delaiah, the sons of Tobiah, the sons of Nekoda, —six hundred and fifty-two.
—included 652 descendants of Delaiah, Tobiah, and Nekoda.
61 And, of the sons of the priests, the sons of Habaiah, the sons of Hakkoz, —the sons of Barzillai, who took of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite to wife, and was called after their name.
Also, from the priest's descendants: the descendants of Habaiah, Hakkoz, and Barzillai (who took his wife from the daughters of Barzillai of Gilead and was called by their name).
62 These, sought their writing wherein they were registered, but they were not found, —so they were desecrated out of the priesthood;
They searched for their genealogical records, but could not find them, so they were excluded from the priesthood as unclean.
63 and the governor told them, that they must not eat of the most holy things, —until there should stand up a priest, with Lights and Perfections.
So the governor told them they must not eat any of the holy sacrifices until a priest with Urim and Thummim approved.
64 All the gathered host together, was forty-two thousand three hundred and sixty;
The whole group totaled 42,360,
65 besides, their men-servants and their maid-servants who were these, seven thousand three hundred and thirty-seven, —and there pertained to them, singing men and singing women, two hundred:
not including their servants and their maidservants (these were 7,337) and their male and female temple singers (two hundred).
66 their horses, were seven hundred and thirty-six, —their mules, two hundred and forty-five;
Their horses: 736. Their mules: 245.
67 their camels, four hundred and thirty-five, —asses, six thousand seven hundred and twenty.
Their camels: 435. Their donkeys: 6,720.
68 And, a portion of the ancestral chiefs, when they came to the house of Yahweh which was in Jerusalem, offered voluntarily for the house of God, to set it up on its basis.
When they went to Yahweh's house in Jerusalem, the chief patriarchs offered freewill gifts to build the house.
69 According to their ability, gave they unto the treasury of the work, of gold, sixty-one thousand drams, and, of silver, five thousand manehs, —and, tunics for priests, one hundred.
They gave according to their ability to the work fund: sixty-one thousand gold darics, five thousand silver minas, and one hundred priestly tunics.
70 So the priests and the Levites, and some of the people, and the singers and the doorkeepers and the Nethinim, took up their abode, in their cities, —and, all Israel, in their cities.
So the priests and Levites, the people, the temple singers and gatekeepers, and those assigned to serve in the temple inhabited their cities. All the people in Israel were in their cities.
