Ezekiel 24
1 And the word of Yahweh came unto me. in the ninth year in the tenth month, on the tenth of the month, saying:
La neuvième année, le dixième mois, le dixième jour du mois, la parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée en ces mots:
2 Son of man. Write thee the name of the day, this selfsame day, —the king of Babylon cast himself against Jerusalem, on this selfsame day.
Fils de l'homme, note le nom de ce jour, de ce jour-ci! Le roi de Babel s'avance sur Jérusalem en ce jour même.
3 Put thou forth therefore, against the perverse house a parable, and say unto them Thus saith My Lord, Yahweh: Set on the caldron set it on, Moreover also pour into it water:
Et propose à la race rebelle une parabole et dis-leur: Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Place, place la chaudière et verses-y aussi de l'eau;
4 Gather the pieces thereof into it, Every good piece thigh and shoulder, With the choice of the bones, fill it:
réunis et mets-y ses morceaux, toute espèce de bons morceaux, les cuisses et les épaules; remplis-la des meilleurs os.
5 Take of the choice of the rock, Moreover also pile of bones place under it, - Boil the pieces thereof, Yea let the bones of it seethe in the midst thereof.
Prends l'élite du troupeau, et aussi une pile de bois à proportion de ses os, et mets-la dessous; fais-la bouillir, de sorte que les os y cuisent aussi.
6 Wherefore, Thus saith My Lord Yahweh, Woe! city of bloodshed. The caldron whose scum is in it, and whose scum, hath not gone out of it: Piece by piece, bring it out, There hath fallen thereon no lot.
C'est pourquoi ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Malheur à la ville meurtrière, chaudière rouillée, dont la rouille ne se détache pas! Tires-en morceau après morceau, et qu'on ne les choisisse pas au sort!
7 For, her own blood, hath come to be in her midst, Upon the smooth face of the cliff, hath she set it, - She hath not poured it out on the earth, that she might cover it with dust.
Car c'est chez elle qu'elle a versé le sang: elle l'a versé sur le roc nu, et ne l'a point répandu sur la terre, où on aurait pu le couvrir de poussière.
8 To bring up indignation to execute an avenging, have I set her blood upon the smooth face of the cliff, —that it may not be covered.
C'est afin d'exciter ma colère et pour tirer vengeance que j'ai permis qu'elle répandît le sang sur le roc nu, pour qu'il ne pût être couvert.
9 Wherefore Thus, saith My Lord Yahweh, Woe! city of bloodshed, —Even I myself, will make large the pile.
Aussi ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Malheur à la ville meurtrière! Moi aussi j'élèverai une pile de bois.
10 Heap on the wood Kindle the fire, Consume the flesh, Yea season with spice, And let the bones be scorched.
Entasse le bois, allume le feu, cuis les viandes, et mets-y l'assaisonnement, et que les os soient brûlés!
11 Then set it upon the live coals thereof empty, —that the copper of it may be scorched and burn. So that the impurity thereof may be annihilated within it The scum thereof be consumed,
Et place-la vide sur les charbons, afin que son airain s'échauffe et devienne brûlant, et que sa souillure y fonde, et que sa rouille soit consumée.
12 With toils, hath she wearied herself, —Since her abundant scum will not go out of her, into the fire, with her scum!
Je m'y fatigue et m'y peine, mais son épaisse rouille ne s'en détache pas, la rouille résiste au feu.
13 In thine uncleanness, is lewdness; be- cause I purified thee and thou wast not purified, from thine uncleanness, thou shalt not be purified any more, until I have let mine indignation rest upon thee.
Dans ta souillure il y a du crime, parce que je voulais te purifier, et que tu ne devins pas pure. Tu ne seras plus purifiée de la souillure, que je n'aie assouvi ma colère sur toi.
14 I Yahweh, have spoken It cometh and I will perform I will not let alone, neither will I shield, Nor will I repent, - According to thy ways and according to thy doings, have they judged thee, Declareth My Lord Yahweh.
Moi l'Éternel, je l'ai dit: le temps en vient, et je l'exécuterai; je ne veux ni m'en désister, ni avoir pitié ou repentir. On te jugera selon ta conduite et tes forfaits, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel.
15 And the word of Yahweh came unto me saying:
Et la parole de l'Éternel me-fut adressée en ces mots:
16 Son of Man Behold me! taking away from thee the delight of thine eyes, with a stroke, - But thou shall not lament Neither shalt thou weep, Neither shall come—thy tears:
Fils de l'homme, voici, je vais t'enlever par un coup le délice de tes yeux, et tu ne gémiras ni ne pleureras, et que les larmes ne te viennent pas aux yeux.
17 To groan, forbear, Over the dead—no mourning, shalt thou make Thy chaplet, bind thou on thee And thy sandals: , put thou on thy feet, And thou shalt not cover thy beard, And the bread of other men, shalt thou not eat.
Soupire en silence, ne prends pas le deuil des morts, attache ta tiare à ta tête, et mets tes souliers à tes pieds, ne te voile pas la barbe et ne mange pas le pain de condoléance.
18 So I spake unto the people in the morning, and my wife died in the evening, —and I did in the morning, as I had been commanded.
Et comme j'avais parlé au peuple le matin, ma femme mourut le soir; et le matin j'exécutai l'ordre que j'avais reçu.
19 Then said the people unto me: Wilt thou not tell us what these things are to us, that thou shouldst be acting thus?
Alors le peuple me dit: Ne nous expliqueras-tu point quel sens a pour nous ce que tu fais là?
20 So I said unto them: The word of Yahweh hath come unto me, saying:
Et je leur dis: La parole de l'Éternel m'a été adressée en ces mots:
21 Say to the house of Israel thus, saith My Lord. Yahweh, Behold me! profaning my sanctuary. The pride of your strength, The delight of your eyes And the object of the tender regard of your soul, - And your sons and your daughters whom ye have left behind, by the sword, shall fall.
Dis à la maison d'Israël: Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l Éternel: Voici, je vais profaner mon sanctuaire, votre orgueil et votre assurance, le délice de vos yeux et l'amour de vos âmes; et vos fils et vos filles que vous avez laissés, périront par l'épée.
22 Then shall ye do, as I have done.— The beard, shall ye not cover, And the bread of other men: , shall ye not eat;
Et vous ferez comme je viens de faire: vous ne vous voilerez point la barbe, ne mangerez point le pain de condoléance,
23 And your chaplets shall be on your heads. And your sandals on your feet, Ye shall neither lament, nor weep, - Yet shall ye pine away in your iniquities, and shall groan one to another.
et vous aurez vos tiares à vos têtes, et vos souliers à vos pieds; vous ne gémirez ni ne pleurerez, mais vous dépérirez par l'effet de vos crimes et vous soupirerez vis-à-vis l'un de l'autre. Et ainsi Ézéchiel sera pour vous un signe prophétique;
24 So shall Ezekiel become to you a wonder, According to all that he hath done, shall ye do: When it cometh, then shall ye know that I am The Lord, Yahweh.
tout ce qu'il a fait, vous le ferez, quand le temps sera venu, et vous saurez que je suis le Seigneur, l'Éternel.
25 Thou, therefore Son of man, Shall it not be— In the day when I take away from them Their strength, The joy of their adorning, — The delight of their eyes And the desire of their soul, Their sons and their daughters
Pour toi, fils de l'homme, le jour où je leur ôterai ce qui fait leur assurance, leur joie et leur gloire, le délice de leurs yeux, et l'affection de leurs âmes, leurs fils et leurs filles,
26 That in that day, one that hath escaped shall come in unto thee, —to cause thee to hear it with thine own ears?
ce jour-là même un homme qui s'échappera, viendra faire entendre cela à tes oreilles.
27 That in that day, thy mouth shall be opened unto him that hath escaped, And thou shalt speak and not be dumb any longer? So shalt thou become to them a wonder, And they shall know that, I, am Yahweh.
En ce jour-là même, ta bouche s'ouvrira de concert avec cet homme échappé, et tu parleras et ne seras plus muet. Et tu seras pour eux un signe prophétique, et ils sauront que je suis l'Éternel.
