Ezekiel 17
1 And the word of Yahweh came unto me saying:
Und es erging das Wort Jahwes an mich folgendermaßen:
2 Son of man Put thou forth a riddle And speak thou a parable, - Unto the house of Israel:
Menschensohn, trage einen Rätselspruch vor und rede ein Gleichnis zum Hause Israel
3 So then thou shalt say, Thus, saith My Lord. Yahweh, — A great eagle, with large wings of long pinion, full of plumage, which had divers colours, came unto Lebanon, and took the highest branch of the cedar:
und sprich: So spricht der Herr Jahwe: Der große Adler mit großen Flügeln, langen Schwingen, mit dem vollen Gefieder und den bunten Farben, kam zum Libanon und nahm den Wipfel der Ceder hinweg.
4 The crown of its young twigs, plucked he off, and brought it into a land of traffic, in a city of merchants, he set it.
Die Spitze ihrer Sprossen riß er ab und brachte sie ins Krämerland; in eine Kaufmannstadt setzte er sie.
5 So he took of the seed of the land, and planted it in a field for seed, - He took it near mighty waters, Like a willow-tree, he set it.
Sodann nahm er eins von den Gewächsen des Erdbodens und that es in ein Saatfeld; an reichliches Wasser setzte er es wie einen Weidenbaum.
6 And it shot forth, and became a spreading vine of lowly stature, Its branches turning towards him, And its roots under him spread, - So it became a vine, And brought forth shoots, And sent forth boughs.
Und es sproßte und ward zu einem Weinstocke, der sich niedrig an Wuchs auf der Erde hinrankte, so daß seine Ranken sich wieder zu ihm hinwendeten und seine Wurzeln unter ihm blieben. Und als es ein Weinstock geworden war, da trieb es Äste und sandte Zweige aus.
7 And it came to pass that there was another great eagle, with large wings, and abundant plumage, - And lo! this vine, stretched its roots hungry towards him. And its branches, sent it forth unto him, That he might cause it to drink out of the beds where it was planted:
Es war aber ein anderer großer Adler mit großen Flügeln und starkem Gefieder, und fürwahr, jener Weinstock bog seine Wurzeln zu ihm hin und streckte ihm seine Äste entgegen, damit er ihn tränke und nicht das Beet, in das er gepflanzt war,
8 In a goodly field by mighty waters, was it planted, - That it might bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, That it might become a splendid vine.
obwohl er auf gutes Feld, an reichliches Wasser gepflanzt war, um Zweige zu treiben und Früchte zu tragen und zu einem prächtigen Weinstocke zu werden.
9 Say thou, Thus, saith My Lord Yahweh, Shall it thrive? Its roots, will he not tear up? Its fruit, will he not cut off, that it wither? All the fresh leaves it hath caused to spring forth shall wither without a strong arm or many people, to pull it up by its roots.
Sprich: So spricht der HerrJahwe: Wird es wohl gut ablaufen? Wird jener nicht seine Wurzeln ausreißen und seine Früchte abschneiden, so daß alle seine sprossenden Blätter verdorren? Und nicht mit gewaltigem Arm und vielem Volke geschieht es, daß er ihn aus seinem Wurzeln hebt.
10 Lo! therefore though [it remain] planted, shall it thrive? As soon as an east wind toucheth it, will it not utterly wither? On the beds where it sprang up, will it not wither?
Nun wohl - gepflanzt ist er. Wird es aber gut ablaufen? Wird er nicht, sobald ihn der Ostwind trifft, gänzlich verdorren, ja, auf dem Beet, in das er gepflanzt war, verdorren?
11 Then came the word of Yahweh unto me saying:
Und das Wort Jahwes erging an mich folgendermaßen:
12 Say, I pray thee unto the perverse house, Know ye not what these things are? Say thou Lo! the King of Babylon entered Jerusalem And took her king and her princes, And brought them unto him in Babylon;
Sprich doch zum Hause der Widerspenstigkeit: Merkt ihr denn nicht, was dies soll? Sprich: Fürwahr, der König von Babel kam nach Jerusalem und nahm seinen König und seine obersten Beamten und brachte sie zu sich nach Babel.
13 Yea took of the seed royal And solemnised with him a covenant, And brought him into an oath, Also the mighty ones of the land, did he take.
Und er nahm einen von den Sprößlingen des Königsgeschlechts und schloß einen Vertrag mit ihm und stellt ihn unter eidliche Verpflichtung; doch die Vornehmen des Landes hatte er mit fortgenommen,
14 That, the kingdom might be abased, so as not to lift itself up, — By the keeping of his covenant, might be made to stand.
damit die Königsmacht gering bliebe und sich nicht wieder erheben könne, damit er den von ihm eigegangenen Vertrag hielte, so daß derselbe Bestand hätte.
15 But he hath rebelled against him by sending his messengers to Egypt, that there should be given to him horses, and much people. Shall he thrive? Shall he escape that doeth these things? Shall he break a covenant and escape?
Der aber wurde von ihm abtrünnig, indem er seine Boten nach Ägypten schickte, daß man ihm Rosse und Kriegsvolk gebe. Wird's wohl gut ablaufen? Wird der, der so etwas thut, davon kommen? Wird er, nachdem er den Vertrag gebrochen hat, davon kommen?
16 As I live, Declareth My Lord Yahweh, Very! in the place where dwelleth the king that made him king, Whose oath he hath despised, And whose covenant he hath broken With him in the midst of Babylon, shall he die.
So wahr ich lebe, ist der Spruch des Herrn Jahwe, an dem Wohnsitze des Königs, der ihn zum König machte, gegen den er meineidig und vertragsbrüchig geworden ist, bei ihm inmitten Babels soll er sterben.
17 Neither shall Pharaoh with a great force. or with a large gathered host, work with him in the war, by casting up an earthwork and by building a siege-wall, —to the cuting off of many lives.
Der Pharao aber wird nicht mit großer Heeresmacht und mit zahlreicher Schar im Kriege für ihn thätig sein, wenn man einen Wall aufschüttet und Türme erbaut, um zahlreiche Seelen auszurotten.
18 Seeing he hath despised an oath. by breaking a covenant—yea lo! hath given his hand and all these things hath done he shall not escape.
Denn er ist meineidig geworden, indem er den Vertrag brach: obgleich er seinen Handschlag gegeben, hat er doch alles das gethan; aber er soll nicht davon kommen.
19 Therefore, Thus saith My Lord Yahweh As I live, Surely it is mine oath which he hath despised, and my covenant which he hath broken, Therefore will I bring it upon his own head:
Darum spricht der Herr Jahwe also: So wahr ich lebe, den Eid, den er bei mir geschworen und doch mißachtet hat, und den Vertrag, den er bei mir geschlossen und doch gebrochen hat: den werde ich ihm auf seinen Kopf geben.
20 And I will spread over him my net, And he shall be taken in my snare, And I will bring him into Babylon and will enter into judgment with him there, as to his treachery wherewith he hath been treacherous against me;
Und ich werde eine Netz über ihn breiten, daß er sich in meinem Garne fangen soll, und werde ihn nach Babel bringen und dort wegen des Treubruchs, den er an mir begangen hat, ins Gericht mit ihm gehen.
21 And all his fugitives throughout all his bands by the sword, shall fall, And they who are left, to every wind, shall be scattered, - [So shall ye know that I, Yahweh, have spoken!]
Und alle seine Kerntruppen unter allen seinen Kriegerscharen, die werden durchs Schwert fallen, und die Übriggebliebenen werden in alle Winde zerstreut werden, damit ihr erkennet, daß ich, Jahwe, es geredet habe.
22 Thus, saith My Lord Yahweh, Therefore will I, Myself, take of the highest branch of the lofty cedar and set it, — Of the crown of its young twigs, a tender one, will I pluck off, and I. myself will plant it upon a mountain high and terraced,
So spricht der Herr Jahwe: Ich werde etwas nehmen vom hohen Wipfel der Ceder und werde es einsetzen und von der Spitze seiner Schößlinge werde ich einen zarten Schößling abpflücken und auf einen hohen und erhabenen Berg pflanzen.
23 In the mountain of the height of Israel, will I plant it, And it shall put forth boughs And bear fruit, And become a majestic cedar, - And every bird of every wing shall dwell under it, In the shade of its branches, shall they dwell.
Auf die Bergeshöhe Israels werde ich ihn pflanzen, und er soll Zweige treiben und Frucht bringen und zu einer majestätischen Ceder werden, daß mannigfach beschwingte Vögel unter ihm wohnen; im Schatten seiner Zweige werden sie wohnen.
24 So shall all the trees of the field know that I Yahweh Have laid low the high tree Have exalted the low tree, Have dried up the moist tree, And have caused to flourish the tree, that was dry, — I, Yahweh, have spoken, and performed.
Und alle Bäume des Feldes sollen merken, daß ich, Jahwe, einen hohen Baum erniedrigt und einen niedrigen Baum erhöht, einen frischen Baum dürrgemacht und einen dürren Baum zur Blüte gebracht habe: ich, Jahwe, habe es gesagt und gethan.
