Ezekiel 16
1 And the word of Yahweh came unto me, saying:
Et la parole de l’Éternel vint à moi, disant:
2 Son of man Let Jerusalem know her abominations,
Fils d’homme, fais connaître à Jérusalem ses abominations,
3 Therefore shalt thou say— Thus saith My Lord. Yahweh To Jerusalem, Thine origin and thy birth, were of the land of the Canaanite, — Thy father was the Amorite And thy mother a Hittite
et dis: Ainsi dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel, à Jérusalem: Ton origine et ta naissance sont du pays des Cananéens; ton père était un Amoréen, et ta mère une Héthienne.
4 And, as for thy birth, in the day thou wast born, Thy navel-cord was not cut, And, in water, wast thou not bathed to cleanse thee, — And, as for being salted, thou was not salted, And, as for being bandaged, thou wast not bandaged.
Et, quant à ta naissance, le jour où tu naquis ton nombril ne fut pas coupé; et tu ne fus pas lavée dans l’eau pour être nettoyée; et tu ne fus pas frottée avec du sel, et tu ne fus pas emmaillotée.
5 No eye, threw a shield over thee, by doing for thee one of these things taking pity on thee, - But thou wast cast out on the face of the field Because thy person, was abhorred, in the day thou wast born.
Aucun œil n’eut pitié de toi pour te faire une seule de ces choses, pour avoir compassion de toi; mais tu fus jetée sur la face des champs, à cause de l’horreur qu’on avait de toi, le jour où tu naquis.
6 And I passed by thee, and looked upon thee, thrusting about thee in thy blood, And said to thee— Despite thy blood, live! Yea I said to thee— Despite thy blood, live!
Et je passai près de toi, et je te vis gisante dans ton sang, et je te dis, dans ton sang: Vis! et je te dis, dans ton sang: Vis!
7 Into myriads—like the bud of the field, made I thee, And thou didst increase and become well grown, and didst attain to most excellent adornments, — Thy breasts were well-formed And thy hair was grown, But thou thyself wast utterly naked.
Je t’ai multipliée comme le germe des champs; et tu pris ta croissance, et tu devins grande, et tu parvins au comble de la beauté; tes seins se formèrent, et ta chevelure se développa; mais tu étais nue et découverte.
8 And I passed by thee and looked upon thee and lo! thy time was the time for endearments, So I spread my skirt over thee, and covered thy shame, And took an oath to thee And entered into covenant with thee. Declareth My Lord. Yahweh. And thou didst become mine.
Et je passai près de toi, et je te vis, et voici, ton âge était l’âge des amours; et j’étendis sur toi le pan de ma robe, et je couvris ta nudité; et je te jurai, et j’entrai en alliance avec toi, dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel; et tu fus à moi.
9 And I bathed thee in water, and rinsed thy blood from off thee, And anointed thee with oil;
Et je te lavai dans l’eau, et je lavai à grande eau ton sang de dessus toi, et je t’oignis d’huile;
10 And clothed thee with an embroidered dress, And sandalled thee in red leather, And wrapped thee about with fine linen, And put over thee a mantle of silk.
et je te vêtis de broderie, et je te chaussai de [peau de] taisson, et je te ceignis de lin blanc, et je te couvris de soie;
11 Then decked I thee with ornaments, And put bracelets upon thy hands, And a neckchain upon thy throat;
et je te parai d’ornements, et je mis des bracelets à tes mains et un collier à ton cou;
12 And put a nose-jewel upon thy nose, And earrings in thine ears, And a crown of adorning, upon thy head.
et je mis un anneau à ton nez et des pendants à tes oreilles, et une couronne de beauté sur ta tête.
13 Thus wast thou adorned with gold and silver, And thy raiment was of fine linen and silk and embroidered work, Fine flour and honey and oil, didst thou eat, — And so thou becamest exceedingly beautiful, And didst attain unto royalty.
Et tu fus parée d’or et d’argent, et ton vêtement était de lin blanc, et de soie, et de broderie. Tu mangeas de la fleur de farine, et du miel, et de l’huile. Et tu devins extrêmement belle, et tu prospéras jusqu’à être un royaume.
14 Then went forth thy fame among the nations. for thy beauty, - For perfect, it was—in my splendour which I had put upon thee, Declareth My Lord, Yahweh.
Et ta renommée se répandit parmi les nations à cause de ta beauté, car elle était parfaite par ma magnificence que j’avais mise sur toi, dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel.
15 Then didst thou trust in thy beauty, And become unchaste, because of thy fame, - And didst pour out thine unchastity upon every passer-by, his it was!
Mais tu te confias en ta beauté, et tu te prostituas à cause de ta renommée, et tu prodiguas tes prostitutions à tout passant: c’était pour lui.
16 Yea thou didst take of thy raiment and madest thee high places of hangings, And didst commit unchastity thereon, - Which ought not to have befallen And not to have come to pass.
Et tu pris de tes vêtements, et tu te fis des hauts lieux de diverses couleurs, et tu t’y prostituas, ce qui n’était jamais arrivé, et ne sera plus.
17 But thou didst take thine adorning jewels Of my gold and of my silver which I had given thee, And didst make thee images of the male, — And didst act unchastely with them;
Et tu pris tes objets de parure, [faits] de mon or et de mon argent que je t’avais donnés, et tu t’en fis des images d’un mâle, et tu te prostituas avec elles;
18 And thou didst take thine embroidered raiment, and cover them, - And mine oil and mine incense, didst thou set before them;
et tu pris tes vêtements de broderie, et tu les en couvris, et tu mis devant elles mon huile et mon encens;
19 And my food which I had given thee, Fine flour and oil and honey wherewith I fed thee, And didst set it before them for a satisfying odour Yea so it was, — Saith My Lord Yahweh.
et mon pain que je t’avais donné, la fleur de farine, et l’huile, et le miel, dont je te nourrissais, tu les mis devant elles, en odeur agréable. Il en a été ainsi, dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel.
20 And thou didst take thy sons and thy daughters, Whom thou hadst borne unto me, And didst sacrifice them unto them to be devoured, - Is this of thine unchastity. a light thing?
Et tu pris tes fils et tes filles que tu m’avais enfantés, et tu les leur offris en sacrifice pour qu’ils les dévorent. Était-ce trop peu que ta prostitution?
21 Yea thou didst slay my children, — And didst deliver them up. that they should be caused to pass through the fire unto them.
Tu égorgeas mes fils, et tu les livras, en les leur consacrant.
22 And in all thine abominations, and thine unchaste ways, thou rememberedst not the days of thy youth, When thou wast utterly naked. When thou wast thrusting about thee in thy blood!
Et avec toutes tes abominations et tes prostitutions, tu ne t’es pas souvenue des jours de ta jeunesse, quand tu étais nue et découverte, gisante dans ton sang.
23 And it came to pass after all thy wickedness, Woe! Woe! to thee, Exclaimeth My Lord Yahweh;
Et il arriva, après toutes tes iniquités, – malheur, malheur à toi, dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel, –
24 That thou didst build thee a brothel, — and didst make thee a height in every broadway:
que tu t’es bâti un lieu de débauche et que tu t’es fait un haut lieu dans toutes les places:
25 At the head of every road, didst thou build thy height, And bring thy beauty into disgust, And open thy feet to every passer-by, So didst thou make thine unchaste ways to abound.
au bout de chaque chemin tu as bâti ton haut lieu, et tu as rendu ta beauté abominable, et tu t’es découverte à tout passant, et tu as multiplié tes prostitutions.
26 Then didst thou extend thine unchaste acts unto the sons of Egypt—thy neighbour great of flesh, - And caused thine unchaste ways to abound provoking me to anger.
Et tu as commis fornication avec les fils de l’Égypte, tes voisins, au corps vigoureux; et tu as multiplié tes prostitutions pour me provoquer à colère.
27 Lo! therefore, I have stretched out my hand against thee, And diminished thine allotted portion, — And have delivered thee up unto the desire of them who hate thee The daughters of the Philistines, who are ashamed of thy lewd way.
Et voici, j’ai étendu ma main sur toi, et j’ai diminué ce qui t’était assigné, et je t’ai livrée à la volonté de celles qui te haïssent, les filles des Philistins, qui ont honte de tes voies d’infamie.
28 Thou didst also extend thine unchastity unto the sons of Assyria, because thou wast insatiable. Yet though thou didst behave unchastely with them, yet even so couldst thou not be satisfied,
Et tu as commis fornication avec les fils d’Assur, parce que tu ne pouvais être rassasiée; tu as commis fornication avec eux, et même tu n’as pas été rassasiée.
29 Thou didst therefore cause thine unchaste ways to abound unto the land of Canaan as towards Chaldea. Yet even herewith, wast thou not satisfied.
Et tu as multiplié tes prostitutions avec un pays de marchands, la Chaldée, et même avec cela tu n’as pas été rassasiée.
30 How weak was thy heart! Exclaimeth My Lord Yahweh, — That thou couldst have done all these things, The doing of a lewd woman without shame:
Oh! que ton cœur est faible, dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel, que tu aies fait toutes ces choses, l’œuvre d’une prostituée éhontée,
31 That thou couldst have built thy brothel at the head of every road, And thy height, couldst have made in every broadway, - Yet becamest not as a harlot to lay claim to a harlot’s hire.
te bâtissant ton lieu de débauche au bout de chaque chemin; et tu as établi ton haut lieu dans toutes les places. Et tu n’es pas comme une prostituée, en ce que tu dédaignes le salaire:
32 A wife who committeth adultery, instead of her husband accepteth strangers.
femme qui commets l’adultère, tu prends des étrangers à la place de ton mari.
33 To all harlots, they give a present, — But, thou, didst give thy presents to all thy lovers, And didst bribe them to come in unto thee from every side, in thine unchastity!
On fait des cadeaux à toutes les prostituées; mais toi, tu fais tes cadeaux à tous tes amants, et tu les engages par des présents à venir vers toi de tous côtés, pour tes prostitutions.
34 And so there came about in thee, the reverse of women, in thine unchastity, In that they did not follow thee for purposes of lewdness, — And in that thou gavest a present while, no present, was given to thee So didst thou become, the reverse.
Et il arrive chez toi, dans tes prostitutions, le contraire de [ce qui se voit] chez les femmes: on ne te suit pas pour commettre fornication; et, en ce que tu donnes des présents et qu’on ne te donne pas de présents, tu fais le contraire.
35 Therefore O harlot, hear thou the word of Yahweh;
C’est pourquoi, prostituée, écoute la parole de l’Éternel:
36 Thus saith My Lord Yahweh, — Because thy money, was poured out, and thy shame, was uncovered, in thine unchastity, unto thy lovers, —and unto all thine abominable manufactured gods, even as the blood of thy children, whom thou didst deliver up unto them,
Ainsi dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel: Parce que ton argent a été dissipé, et que ta nudité a été découverte à tes amants par tes prostitutions, et à toutes les idoles de tes abominations, et à cause du sang de tes fils que tu leur as livrés;
37 Therefore behold me! gathering together all thy lovers unto whom thou didst make thyself pleasant, Even all whom thou lovedst, With all whom thou hatedst, — Yea I will gather them together unto thee from every side And will uncover thy shame unto them, And they shall see all thy shame.
à cause de cela, voici, je rassemble tous tes amants avec lesquels tu te plaisais, et tous ceux que tu as aimés, avec tous ceux que tu as haïs; et je les rassemblerai de toutes parts contre toi, et je leur découvrirai ta nudité, et ils verront toute ta nudité.
38 So will I judge thee. with the judgments meted out to adulteresses and shedders of blood, - And will repay thee with the blood of indignation and jealousy;
Et je te jugerai du jugement des femmes adultères et de celles qui versent le sang, et je te livrerai au sang de la fureur et de la jalousie;
39 And will deliver thee into their hand. And they shall pull down thy brothel And break in pieces thy heights, And strip thee of thy raiment, And take away thine adorning jewels, - And leave thee utterly naked.
et je te livrerai entre leurs mains, et ils abattront ton lieu de débauche et démoliront tes hauts lieux; et ils te dépouilleront de tes vêtements, et prendront tes objets de parure, et te laisseront nue et découverte.
40 Then will they bring up against thee a gathered host, And they will stone thee with stones, - And cut thee to pieces with their swords;
Et on fera monter contre toi un rassemblement [d’hommes], et ils te lapideront avec des pierres, et te transperceront avec leurs épées;
41 And burn up thy houses with fire, And execute upon thee judgments before the eyes of many women, —So will I cause thee to cease from acting unchastely, Moreover also a present, shalt thou not give any more.
et ils brûleront tes maisons par le feu, et exécuteront sur toi des jugements aux yeux de beaucoup de femmes. Et je te ferai cesser de commettre fornication, et, des présents aussi, tu n’en donneras plus.
42 So will I let mine indignation find rest in thee, And my jealousy shall depart from thee, —And I will be quiet, and not be provoked any more.
Et je satisferai ma fureur sur toi, et ma jalousie se retirera de toi; et je me tiendrai tranquille, et je ne me courroucerai plus.
43 Because thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, But hast enraged me with all these things Therefore also behold! I thy way, upon thine own head, will place Declareth My Lord Yahweh, And thou shalt not commit a crime above all thine abominations
Parce que tu ne t’es pas souvenue des jours de ta jeunesse, et que tu m’as irrité par toutes ces choses, voici, moi aussi je fais retomber ta voie sur ta tête, dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel; et tu ne commettras pas l’infamie par-dessus toutes tes abominations.
44 Lo! every one who useth proverbs, against thee, shall use a proverb saying, — Like the mother, so her daughter!
Voici, tous ceux qui font des proverbes feront un proverbe sur toi, disant: Telle mère, telle fille!
45 The daughter of thy mother, thou art! One abhorring her own husband and her own children, — Yea the sister of thy sisters, thou art Who abhorred their own husbands and their own children, Your mother was a Hittite, And your father an Amorite.
Tu es la fille de ta mère qui avait en horreur son mari et ses enfants; et tu es la sœur de tes sœurs qui avaient en horreur leurs maris et leurs enfants. Votre mère était une Héthienne, et votre père était un Amoréen.
46 And thine elder sister, was Samaria, she and her daughters, dwelling on thy left hand, — And thy sister younger than thou dwelling on thy right hand was Sodom and her daughters.
Et ta sœur, l’aînée, c’est Samarie qui demeure à ta gauche, elle et ses filles; et ta jeune sœur qui demeure à ta droite, c’est Sodome et ses filles.
47 Yet not in their ways, didst thou walk, nor according to their abominations, didst thou do, — As though that were quite too little, thou didst corrupt thyself beyond them in all thy ways.
Mais tu n’as pas marché dans leurs voies, et tu n’as pas fait selon leurs abominations; mais, comme si c’était bien peu, tu t’es corrompue dans toutes tes voies plus qu’elles.
48 As I live, Declareth My Lord Yahweh, Very! Sodom thy sister had not done, neither she nor her daughters, —as thou and thy daughters have done.
Je suis vivant, dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel, que Sodome ta sœur, elle et ses filles, n’a pas fait comme tu as fait, toi et tes filles!
49 Lo! this became the iniquity of Sodom thy sister, — Pride, fulness of bread, and careless security came to her and to her daughters, And the hand of the oppressed and the needy, she strengthened not.
Voici, c’est ici l’iniquité de ta sœur Sodome: orgueil, abondance de pain et insouciant repos, elle les a possédés, elle et ses filles; mais elle n’a pas fortifié la main de l’affligé et du pauvre.
50 So then they became haughty, and committed abomination before me, - And I took them away. when I saw [it],
Elles se sont élevées et ont commis des abominations devant moi; et je les ai ôtées lorsque je l’ai vu.
51 Nor did, Samaria, commit, one-half thy sins, — But thou didst multiply thine abominations more than they, And didst cause thy sisters to appear righteous, by all the abominations which thou didst commit.
Et Samarie n’a pas péché selon la moitié de tes péchés; tu as multiplié plus qu’elles tes abominations, et tu as justifié tes sœurs par toutes tes abominations que tu as commises.
52 Thou also bear thine own reproach, which thou didst adjudge to thy sisters, by thy sins in which thou wast more abominable than they, thou didst make them appear more righteous than thou, — Thou also, therefore turn thou pale and bear thine own reproach, for making thy sisters appear righteous!
Toi aussi, toi qui as jugé tes sœurs, porte ta confusion à cause de tes péchés, par lesquels tu as agi plus abominablement qu’elles; elles sont plus justes que toi. Et toi aussi, sois honteuse et porte ta confusion, parce que tu as justifié tes sœurs.
53 When therefore I bring back their captivity, The captivity of Sodom and her daughters, And the captivity of Samaria and her daughters Then will I bring back thy captivities in their midst:
Et je tournerai [en délivrance] leur captivité, la captivité de Sodome et de ses filles, et la captivité de Samarie et de ses filles, et la captivité de tes captifs au milieu d’elles,
54 That thou mayest bear thine own reproach, And take to thyself reproach because of all that thou didst in comforting them.
afin que tu portes ta confusion, et que tu sois confuse de tout ce que tu as fait, en ce que tu les consoles.
55 When thy sisters Sodom and her daughters shall return to their former estate, And Samaria and her daughters shall return to their former estate Then thou and thy daughters, shall return to your former estate.
Et tes sœurs, Sodome et ses filles, retourneront à leur ancien état, et Samarie et ses filles retourneront à leur ancien état; et toi et tes filles, vous retournerez à votre ancien état.
56 And Sodom thy sister was never heard in thy mouth, —In the day of thy pride:
Et Sodome, ta sœur, n’a pas été mentionnée par ta bouche, au jour de ton orgueil,
57 Before thy wickedness was discovered, As now, [thou art] the reproach of the daughters of Syria and all round about her the daughters of the Philistines, —who are despising thee on every side.
avant que ton iniquité soit découverte, comme au temps des outrages des filles d’Aram et de toutes celles d’alentour, des filles des Philistins, qui te méprisaient de toutes parts.
58 As for thy crime and thine abominations, thou thyself, dost bear them, — Declareth Yahweh.
Ton infamie et tes abominations, tu les portes, dit l’Éternel.
59 For Thus, saith My Lord, Yahweh, Therefore will I deal with thee just as thou hast dealt, - In that thou didst despise an oath by breaking a covenant.
Car ainsi dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel: Je te ferai comme tu as fait, toi qui as méprisé le serment et rompu l’alliance.
60 Therefore will I remember my covenant with thee in the days of thy youth, — And will establish for thee a covenant age-abiding.
Mais je me souviendrai de mon alliance avec toi dans les jours de ta jeunesse, et j’établirai pour toi une alliance éternelle.
61 Thou shalt therefore remember thy ways and take to thyself reproach, by receiving thy sisters. The older than thou, And the younger than thou, - And I will give them unto thee for daughters Though not by thine own covenant.
Et tu te souviendras de tes voies; et tu seras confuse, quand tu recevras tes sœurs, tes aînées, avec celles qui sont plus jeunes que toi, et que je te les donnerai pour filles, mais non pas selon ton alliance.
62 But I myself, will establish my covenant with thee— And thou shalt know that I, am Yahweh:
Et j’établirai mon alliance avec toi, et tu sauras que je suis l’Éternel;
63 To the end thou mayest remember and turn pale, and there be to thee no more, an opening of mouth, because of thy reproach, - In that I have accepted a propitiatory covering for thee as to all that thou hast done, Declareth My Lord. Yahweh.
afin que tu te souviennes, et que tu sois honteuse, et que tu n’ouvres plus la bouche, à cause de ta confusion, quand je te pardonnerai tout ce que tu as fait, dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel.
