Ezekiel 15

1 And the word of Yahweh came unto me saying:

La parole de l'Eternel me fut encore [adressée], en disant:

2 Son of man, What can the vine-tree be more than any other tree, —any branch which hath been found among the trees of the forest?

Fils d'homme, que vaut le bois de la vigne plus que les autres bois? et les sarments plus que les branches des arbres d'une forêt?

3 Shall there be taken from it wood, to be made into any work? Or will men take therefrom a peg, to hang thereon any vessel?

En prendra-t-on du bois pour en faire quelque ouvrage? ou en prendra-t-on un croc pour y pendre quelque chose?

4 Lo! into the fire, it is given up for fuel, — The two ends thereof, doth the fire devour, And the middle thereof is charred, Is it fit for any work?

Voici, on le met au feu pour être consumé: le feu a consumé aussitôt ses deux bouts, et le milieu est en feu; vaut-il rien pour quelque ouvrage?

5 Lo! while it was yet whole, it could not be made into any work, — how much less when! the fire hath devoured it. and it is charred, can it still be made into any work?

Voici, quand il est entier, on n'en fait aucun ouvrage; combien moins quand le feu l'aura consumé, et qu'il sera brûlé, sera-t-il propre pour quelque ouvrage?

6 Therefore, Thus, saith My Lord Yahweh, As a vine-tree among the trees of the forest, which I have given up to the fire for fuel, so have I given up the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

C'est pourquoi ainsi a dit le Seigneur l'Eternel: comme le bois de la vigne est tel entre les arbres d'une forêt, que je l'ai assigné au feu pour être consumé; ainsi je livrerai les habitants de Jérusalem.

7 Therefore will I set my face against them, Out of one fire, have they come forth But another fire, shall devour them, —So shall ye know that, I, am Yahweh, by my setting my face against them;

Et je me tournerai contre eux; seront-ils sortis du feu? encore le feu les consumera; et vous saurez que je suis l'Eternel, quand je me serai tourné contre eux.

8 I will therefore give up the land as a desolation, —because they have committed treachery, Declareth My Lord., Yahweh.

Et je ferai que le pays ne sera que désolation; parce qu'ils ont commis une infidélité, dit le Seigneur l'Eternel.
