Exodus 24
1 And unto Moses, he said—Come up unto Yahweh—thou, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, so shall ye bow yourselves down from afar.
Le Seigneur dit encore à Moïse: Monte vers le Seigneur avec Aaron, Nadab, Abiud et soixante-dix des anciens d'Israël; qu'ils adorent dé loin le Seigneur.
2 And Moses alone shall draw near unto Yahweh, but, they shall not draw near, and, the people, shall not come up with him.
Moïse seul viendra près du Seigneur; les autres n'approcheront pas de lui, et le peuple ne montera pas avec eux.
3 So Moses came, and recounted to the people all the words of Yahweh, and all the regulations, and all the people responded with one voice and said, All the words which Yahweh hath spoken, will we do.
Moïse descendit donc; il rapporta au peuple toutes les paroles et les ordonnances de Dieu; et le peuple répondit tout d'une voix, et il dit: Nous exécuterons tout ce que t'a dit le Seigneur; nous obéirons.
4 Then wrote Moses all the words of Yahweh, and rose up early in the morning, and builded an altar, under the mountain, and twelve pillars, for the twelve tribes of Israel:
Moïse écrivit ensuite toutes les paroles du Seigneur, et, s'étant levé de grand matin, il éleva un autel au pied de la montagne, plus douze pierres pour les douze tribus d'Israël.
5 and he sent young men of the sons of Israel, and they caused to go up, ascending-sacrifices, —and slew peace-offerings to Yahweh, of oxen.
Puis, il envoya les jeunes gens des fils d'Israël, et ils amenèrent des holocaustes, et ils sacrifièrent à Dieu de jeunes veaux, comme hosties pacifiques.
6 Then took Moses half of the blood, and put it in basins, and half of the blood, dashed he over the altar:
Moïse, ayant pris la moitié du sang, la versa en des urnes, et il répandit l'autre moitié devant l'autel.
7 then took he the book of the covenant, and read in the ears of the people. And they said, All that Yahweh hath spoken, will we do, and will hearken,
Et prenant le livre de l'alliance, il le lut au peuple, qui répondit: Nous ferons tout ce qu'a dit le Seigneur; nous obéirons.
8 Then Moses took the blood, and dashed over the people, and said, Lo! the blood of the covenant which Yahweh hath solemnised with you, over all these words.
Et Moïse, ayant pris le sang des urnes, aspergea le peuple, et il dit: Voici le sang de l'alliance que le Seigneur a cimentée avec vous au sujet de toutes ces paroles.
9 Then went up Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel;
Après cela, Moïse monta avec Aaron, Nadab, Abiud et soixante-dix des anciens d'Israël.
10 and they saw the God of Israel, —and under his feet, like a pavement of sapphire, and like the very heavens for brightness; and
Et ils virent le lieu où se tenait le Dieu d'Israël; ils virent sous ses pieds comme un ouvrage en pierres de saphir, comme une image du firmament du ciel dans sa pureté.
11 against the nobles of the sons of Israel, put he not forth his hand, —so then they had vision of God, and did eat and drink,
Cependant, aucun des élus d'Israël n'expira; ils se présentèrent au lieu où était le Seigneur, et ils mangèrent, et ils burent.
12 Then said Yahweh unto Moses—Come thou up unto me in the mountain and remain thou there, —for I must give thee tables of stone and the law and the commandment, which I have written to direct them.
Le Seigneur alors dit à Moïse: Monte jusqu'à moi sur la montagne, et je te donnerai les tables de pierre, la loi et les commandements que j'ai écrits pour les gouverner.
13 And Moses rose up, and Joshua his attendant, and Moses went up into the mountain of God;
Et Moïse s'étant levé avec Josué, ils montèrent sur la cime de Dieu.
14 but, unto the elders, he said—Tarry for us here, until we return unto you. And lo! Aaron and Hur, are with you, he that hath a cause, let him draw near unto them.
Ils avaient dit aux anciens: Ne bougez d'où vous êtes jusqu'à ce que nous revenions vers vous; voici avec vous Aaron et Hur: si quelqu'un a une cause à juger, qu'il aille devant eux.
15 So then Moses wont up into the mountain, —and the cloud covered the mountain.
Moïse donc avec Josué monta sur la montagne, et une nuée enveloppa la montagne.
16 And the glory of Yahweh rested upon Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days, —then called he unto Moses on the seventh day, out of the midst of the cloud.
La gloire de Dieu descendit sur le mont Sina, pendant six jours la nuée enveloppa la montagne, et le septième jour, Dieu, du milieu de la nuée, appela Moïse.
17 And the appearance of the glory of Yahweh was like a consuming fire on the top of the mountain, —in the sight of the sons of Israel.
Et la gloire de Dieu apparaissait sur la cime du mont comme un feu flamboyant, aux yeux des enfants d'Israël.
18 And Moses entered into the midst of the cloud and ascended into the mountain. And it came to pass that Moses was in the mountain forty days and forty nights.
Moïse entra au milieu de la nuée, il monta sur la cime, et il y resta quarante jours et quarante nuits.
