< Exodus 17 >

1 And all the assembly of the sons of Israel set forward out of the desert of Sin, by their removings, at the bidding of Yahweh, —and encamped in Rephidim, and there was no water for the people to drink.
Gbogbo ìjọ ènìyàn Israẹli si gbéra láti jáde kúrò láti aginjù Sini wọ́n ń lọ láti ibi kan de ibi kan gẹ́gẹ́ bí Olúwa ti pàṣẹ. Wọ́n pàgọ́ sí Refidimu, ṣùgbọ́n kò sí omi fún àwọn ènìyàn láti mú.
2 And the people found fault with Moses, and said—Give us water, that we may drink. And Moses said to them, Why should ye find fault with me? Why should ye put Yahweh to the proof?
Àwọn ènìyàn sì sọ̀ fún Mose, wọ́n wí pé, “Fún wa ni omi mu.” Mose dá wọn lóhùn wí pé, “Èéṣe ti ẹ̀yin fi ń bá mi jà? Èéṣe ti ẹ̀yin fi ń dán Olúwa wò?”
3 So the people thirsted, there for water, and the people murmured against Moses, —and said—Wherefore is it that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill me and my sons and my cattle, with thirst?
Ṣùgbọ́n òǹgbẹ ń gbẹ àwọn ènìyàn, wọ́n sì ń kùn sí Mose, wọ́n wí pé, “Èéṣe tí ìwọ fi mú wa jáde kúrò ní Ejibiti láti mú kí òǹgbẹ pa àwa, àwọn ọmọ wa àti ohun ọ̀sìn wa ku fún òǹgbẹ.”
4 And Moses made outcry unto Yahweh saying, What am I to do, with this people? Yet a little, and they will stone me.
Nígbà náà ni Mose gbé ohùn rẹ̀ sókè sí Olúwa pé, “Kí ni kí èmi kí ó ṣe fún àwọn ènìyàn yìí? Wọ́n múra tan láti sọ mi ni òkúta.”
5 Then said Yahweh unto Moses—Pass over before the people, and take with thee some of the elders of Israel, —thy staff also wherewith thou didst smite the river, take thou in thy hand, so shalt thou go thy way.
Olúwa sì dá Mose lóhùn pé, “Máa lọ síwájú àwọn ènìyàn, mú nínú àwọn àgbàgbà Israẹli pẹ̀lú rẹ, mú ọ̀pá tí ìwọ fi lu odò Naili lọ́wọ́ kí ó sì máa lọ.
6 Behold me! standing before thee, there upon the rock in Horeb, then shalt thou smite the rock and there shall come forth therefrom water, and the people shall drink. And Moses did so, in the sight of the elders of Israel.
Èmi yóò dúró ni ibẹ̀ dè ọ ni orí àpáta ni Horebu. Ìwọ ó sì lu àpáta, omi yóò sì jáde nínú rẹ̀ fún àwọn ènìyàn láti mu.” Mose sì ṣe bẹ́ẹ̀ ni iwájú àwọn àgbàgbà Israẹli.
7 So he called the name of the place, Massah, and Meribah, —because of the fault-finding of the sons of Israel, and because of their putting Yahweh to the proof, saying, Is Yahweh in our midst or is he not?
Ó sì sọ orúkọ ibẹ̀ ni Massa àti Meriba, nítorí àwọn ọmọ Israẹli sọ̀, wọ́n sì dán Olúwa wò, wọ́n wí pé, “Ǹjẹ́ Olúwa ń bẹ láàrín wa tàbí kò sí?”
8 Then came in Amalek, —and fought with Israel, in Rephidim.
Àwọn ara Amaleki jáde, wọ́n sì dìde ogun sí àwọn ọmọ Israẹli ni Refidimu.
9 And Moses said unto Joshua—Choose for us men, and go forth, fight with Amalek, —to-morrow, am, I, stationing myself upon the top of the hill, with the staff of God in my hand.
Mose sì sọ fún Joṣua pé, “Yàn lára àwọn ọkùnrin fún wa, kí wọn ó sì jáde lọ bá àwọn ará Amaleki jà. Ní ọ̀la, èmi yóò dúró ni orí òkè pẹ̀lú ọ̀pá Ọlọ́run ní ọwọ́ mi.”
10 So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, to fight with Amalek, —and Moses, Aaron and Hur, went up to the top of the hill.
Joṣua ṣe bí Mose ti wí fún un, ó sì bá àwọn ará Amaleki jagun; nígbà tí Mose, Aaroni àti Huri lọ sí orí òkè náà.
11 And it shall be when Moses shall lift on high his hands, then shall Israel prevail, but when he shall let down his hands, then shall Amalek prevail.
Níwọ́n ìgbà tí Mose bá gbé apá rẹ̀ sókè, Israẹli n borí ṣùgbọ́n nígbà tí ó bá sì rẹ apá rẹ̀ sílẹ̀, Amaleki a sì borí.
12 But, the hands of Moses, were weary, so they took a stone, and put under him, and he sat thereupon, —and, Aaron and Hur, upheld his hands—on this side, one and on that side, one, and so his hands became steady, until the going in of the sun.
Ṣùgbọ́n apá ń ro Mose, wọ́n mú òkúta, wọ́n sì fi sí abẹ́ rẹ̀, ó sì jókòó lé òkúta náà; Aaroni àti Huri sì mu ní apá rẹ̀, ọ̀kan ní apá ọ̀tún àti èkejì ni apá òsì; apá rẹ̀ méjèèjì sì dúró gangan títí di ìgbà ti oòrùn wọ.
13 So Joshua overthrew Amalek and his people, with the edge of the sword.
Joṣua sì fi ojú idà ṣẹ́gun àwọn ará Amaleki.
14 Then said Yahweh unto Moses—Write this as a remembrancer in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua—that I will, wipe out, the remembrance of Amalek, from under the heavens.
Olúwa sì sọ fun Mose pé. “Kọ èyí sì inú ìwé fún ìrántí, kí o sì sọ fún Joṣua pẹ̀lú; nítorí èmi yóò pa ìrántí Amaleki run pátápátá kúrò lábẹ́ ọ̀run.”
15 And Moses built an altar, —and called the name thereof, Yahweh-nissi.
Mose sì tẹ́ pẹpẹ kan, ó sì sọ orúkọ pẹpẹ náà ní Olúwa ni Àsíá mi.
16 And he said—Because of a hand against the throne of Yah, Yahweh hath war with Amalek, —from generation to generation!
Ó wí pé, “A gbé ọwọ́ sókè sí ìtẹ́ Olúwa. Olúwa yóò bá Amaleki jagun láti ìran dé ìran.”
