Exodus 17
1 And all the assembly of the sons of Israel set forward out of the desert of Sin, by their removings, at the bidding of Yahweh, —and encamped in Rephidim, and there was no water for the people to drink.
Y los hijos de Israel salieron del desierto de Sin, por etapas, según el Señor les dio órdenes, y levantaron sus tiendas en Refidim; y no había agua potable para el pueblo.
2 And the people found fault with Moses, and said—Give us water, that we may drink. And Moses said to them, Why should ye find fault with me? Why should ye put Yahweh to the proof?
Entonces el pueblo se enojó con Moisés y le dijo: Danos agua para beber. Y Moisés dijo: ¿Por qué estás enojado conmigo? y ¿por qué pones a Dios a prueba?
3 So the people thirsted, there for water, and the people murmured against Moses, —and said—Wherefore is it that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill me and my sons and my cattle, with thirst?
Y la gente tenía gran necesidad de agua; y murmuraron contra Moisés, y dijeron: ¿Por qué nos has sacado de Egipto para enviarnos la muerte a nosotros, nuestros hijos y nuestro ganado a causa de la necesidad de agua?
4 And Moses made outcry unto Yahweh saying, What am I to do, with this people? Yet a little, and they will stone me.
Y Moisés, clamando al Señor, dijo: ¿Qué he de hacer con este pueblo? están casi listos para matarme apedreando.
5 Then said Yahweh unto Moses—Pass over before the people, and take with thee some of the elders of Israel, —thy staff also wherewith thou didst smite the river, take thou in thy hand, so shalt thou go thy way.
Y él Señor dijo a Moisés: Continúa delante del pueblo, y toma a algunos de los jefes de Israel contigo, y toma en tu mano la vara que estaba tendida sobre el Nilo, y vete.
6 Behold me! standing before thee, there upon the rock in Horeb, then shalt thou smite the rock and there shall come forth therefrom water, and the people shall drink. And Moses did so, in the sight of the elders of Israel.
Mira, tomaré mi lugar delante de ti sobre la roca en Horeb; y cuando le das un golpe a la roca, saldrá agua de ella, y la gente beberá. Y Moisés lo hizo ante los ojos de los jefes de Israel.
7 So he called the name of the place, Massah, and Meribah, —because of the fault-finding of the sons of Israel, and because of their putting Yahweh to the proof, saying, Is Yahweh in our midst or is he not?
Y dio a ese lugar el nombre de Masah y Meriba, porque los hijos de Israel se enojaron, y porque pusieron al Señor a prueba, diciendo: ¿Está el Señor con nosotros o no?
8 Then came in Amalek, —and fought with Israel, in Rephidim.
Entonces vino Amalec y peleó contra Israel en Refidim.
9 And Moses said unto Joshua—Choose for us men, and go forth, fight with Amalek, —to-morrow, am, I, stationing myself upon the top of the hill, with the staff of God in my hand.
Y Moisés dijo a Josué: Juntanos una banda de hombres y sal a hacer guerra contra Amalec; mañana tomaré mi lugar en la cima del monte con la vara de Dios en mi mano.
10 So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, to fight with Amalek, —and Moses, Aaron and Hur, went up to the top of the hill.
Entonces Josué hizo como Moisés le dijo, y fue a la guerra contra Amalec; y Moisés, Aarón y Hur subieron a la cima del monte.
11 And it shall be when Moses shall lift on high his hands, then shall Israel prevail, but when he shall let down his hands, then shall Amalek prevail.
Y mientras Moisés levantaba su mano, Israel era más fuerte; más cuando soltaba su mano, Amalec se hacía más fuerte.
12 But, the hands of Moses, were weary, so they took a stone, and put under him, and he sat thereupon, —and, Aaron and Hur, upheld his hands—on this side, one and on that side, one, and so his hands became steady, until the going in of the sun.
Pero las manos de Moisés se cansaban; así que pusieron una piedra debajo de él y él se sentó en ella, Aarón y Hur apoyando sus manos, uno de un lado y el otro sobre el otro; así que mantuvieron sus manos sin caer hasta que el sol se puso.
13 So Joshua overthrew Amalek and his people, with the edge of the sword.
Y Josué venció a Amalec y a su pueblo a espada.
14 Then said Yahweh unto Moses—Write this as a remembrancer in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua—that I will, wipe out, the remembrance of Amalek, from under the heavens.
Y el SEÑOR dijo a Moisés: Haz un registro de esto en un libro, para que se guarde en la memoria, y repítelo en los oídos de Josué: que todo recuerdo de Amalec será desarraigado por completo de la tierra.
15 And Moses built an altar, —and called the name thereof, Yahweh-nissi.
Entonces Moisés levantó un altar, y le dio el nombre Él Señor es mi estandarte:
16 And he said—Because of a hand against the throne of Yah, Yahweh hath war with Amalek, —from generation to generation!
Porque dijo: Él Señor juró que habrá guerra contra Amalec de generación en generación.
