Exodus 17
1 And all the assembly of the sons of Israel set forward out of the desert of Sin, by their removings, at the bidding of Yahweh, —and encamped in Rephidim, and there was no water for the people to drink.
Și toată adunarea copiilor lui Israel a călătorit de la pustia lui Sin, după călătoriile lor, conform poruncii DOMNULUI, și au așezat tabăra în Refidim; și nu a fost apă pentru popor să bea.
2 And the people found fault with Moses, and said—Give us water, that we may drink. And Moses said to them, Why should ye find fault with me? Why should ye put Yahweh to the proof?
De aceea poporul s-a certat cu Moise și a spus: Dă-ne apă să bem. Și Moise le-a zis: De ce vă certați cu mine? Pentru ce îl ispitiți pe DOMNUL?
3 So the people thirsted, there for water, and the people murmured against Moses, —and said—Wherefore is it that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill me and my sons and my cattle, with thirst?
Și poporul era însetat de apă acolo; și poporul a cârtit împotriva lui Moise și a spus: Pentru ce ne-ai scos afară din Egipt, ca să ne ucizi pe noi și copiii noștri și vitele noastre, prin sete?
4 And Moses made outcry unto Yahweh saying, What am I to do, with this people? Yet a little, and they will stone me.
Și Moise a strigat către DOMNUL, spunând: Ce să fac acestui popor? Ei sunt aproape gata să mă ucidă cu pietre.
5 Then said Yahweh unto Moses—Pass over before the people, and take with thee some of the elders of Israel, —thy staff also wherewith thou didst smite the river, take thou in thy hand, so shalt thou go thy way.
Și DOMNUL i-a spus lui Moise: Du-te înaintea poporului și ia cu tine dintre bătrânii lui Israel; și toiagul tău, cu care ai lovit râul, ia-l în mâna ta și du-te.
6 Behold me! standing before thee, there upon the rock in Horeb, then shalt thou smite the rock and there shall come forth therefrom water, and the people shall drink. And Moses did so, in the sight of the elders of Israel.
Iată, voi sta înaintea ta acolo, pe stânca din Horeb; și vei lovi stânca și din ea va ieși apă, ca poporul să bea. Și Moise a făcut așa înaintea ochilor bătrânilor lui Israel.
7 So he called the name of the place, Massah, and Meribah, —because of the fault-finding of the sons of Israel, and because of their putting Yahweh to the proof, saying, Is Yahweh in our midst or is he not?
Și el a pus numele acelui loc, Masa și Meriba, din cauza cerții copiilor lui Israel și din cauză că au ispitit pe DOMNUL, spunând: Este DOMNUL printre noi, sau nu?
8 Then came in Amalek, —and fought with Israel, in Rephidim.
Atunci Amalec a venit și a luptat cu Israel în Refidim.
9 And Moses said unto Joshua—Choose for us men, and go forth, fight with Amalek, —to-morrow, am, I, stationing myself upon the top of the hill, with the staff of God in my hand.
Și Moise i-a spus lui Iosua: Alege bărbați pentru noi și ieși, luptă cu Amalec; mâine voi sta în vârful dealului cu toiagul lui Dumnezeu în mâna mea.
10 So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, to fight with Amalek, —and Moses, Aaron and Hur, went up to the top of the hill.
Așa că Iosua a făcut precum Moise i-a spus și a luptat cu Amalec; și Moise, Aaron și Hur s-au urcat până în vârful dealului.
11 And it shall be when Moses shall lift on high his hands, then shall Israel prevail, but when he shall let down his hands, then shall Amalek prevail.
Și s-a întâmplat, când Moise își ridica mâna, învingea Israel; și când el își lăsa jos mâna, învingea Amalec.
12 But, the hands of Moses, were weary, so they took a stone, and put under him, and he sat thereupon, —and, Aaron and Hur, upheld his hands—on this side, one and on that side, one, and so his hands became steady, until the going in of the sun.
Dar mâinile lui Moise erau grele; și au luat o piatră și au pus-o sub el, iar el a șezut pe ea; și Aaron și Hur i-au ținut ridicate mâinile, unul pe o parte și celălalt pe cealaltă parte; și mâinile lui au fost neclintite până la apusul soarelui.
13 So Joshua overthrew Amalek and his people, with the edge of the sword.
Și Iosua l-a învins pe Amalec și poporul lui cu tăișul sabiei.
14 Then said Yahweh unto Moses—Write this as a remembrancer in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua—that I will, wipe out, the remembrance of Amalek, from under the heavens.
Și DOMNUL i-a spus lui Moise: Scrie aceasta ca amintire într-o carte și repetă în urechile lui Iosua, pentru că voi șterge cu desăvârșire amintirea lui Amalec de sub ceruri.
15 And Moses built an altar, —and called the name thereof, Yahweh-nissi.
Și Moise a zidit un altar și i-a pus numele acestuia Iehova-Nisi;
16 And he said—Because of a hand against the throne of Yah, Yahweh hath war with Amalek, —from generation to generation!
Și a spus: Pentru că DOMNUL a jurat că DOMNUL va avea război cu Amalec din generație în generație.
