< Ephesians 1 >
1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus, through God’s will, unto the saints who are [in Ephesus] and faithful in Christ Jesus, —
īśvarasyēcchayā yīśukhrīṣṭasya prēritaḥ paula iphiṣanagarasthān pavitrān khrīṣṭayīśau viśvāsinō lōkān prati patraṁ likhati|
2 Favour unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and Lord Jesus Christ.
asmākaṁ tātasyēśvarasya prabhō ryīśukhrīṣṭasya cānugrahaḥ śāntiśca yuṣmāsu varttatāṁ|
3 Blessed, be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with every spiritual blessing, in the heavenlies, in Christ,
asmākaṁ prabhō ryīśōḥ khrīṣṭasya tāta īśvarō dhanyō bhavatu; yataḥ sa khrīṣṭēnāsmabhyaṁ sarvvam ādhyātmikaṁ svargīyavaraṁ dattavān|
4 According as he made choice of us, in him, before the founding of a world, that we might be holy and blameless in his presence; in love,
vayaṁ yat tasya samakṣaṁ prēmnā pavitrā niṣkalaṅkāśca bhavāmastadarthaṁ sa jagataḥ sr̥ṣṭē pūrvvaṁ tēnāsmān abhirōcitavān, nijābhilaṣitānurōdhācca
5 marking us out beforehand unto sonship, through Jesus Christ, for himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
yīśunā khrīṣṭēna svasya nimittaṁ putratvapadē'smān svakīyānugrahasya mahattvasya praśaṁsārthaṁ pūrvvaṁ niyuktavān|
6 Unto the praise of the glory of his favour wherewith he favoured us in the Beloved One, —
tasmād anugrahāt sa yēna priyatamēna putrēṇāsmān anugr̥hītavān,
7 In whom we have the redemption through his blood, the remission of our offences, according to the riches of his favour,
vayaṁ tasya śōṇitēna muktim arthataḥ pāpakṣamāṁ labdhavantaḥ|
8 which he made to superabound towards us; in all wisdom and prudence,
tasya ya īdr̥śō'nugrahanidhistasmāt sō'smabhyaṁ sarvvavidhaṁ jñānaṁ buddhiñca bāhulyarūpēṇa vitaritavān|
9 making known to us the sacred secret of his will, according to his good pleasure which he purposed in him, —
svargapr̥thivyō ryadyad vidyatē tatsarvvaṁ sa khrīṣṭē saṁgrahīṣyatīti hitaiṣiṇā
10 For an administration of the fulness of the seasons, to reunite for himself (under one head) the all things in the Christ, the things upon the heavens, and the things upon the earth, in him:
tēna kr̥tō yō manōrathaḥ sampūrṇatāṁ gatavatsu samayēṣu sādhayitavyastamadhi sa svakīyābhilāṣasya nigūḍhaṁ bhāvam asmān jñāpitavān|
11 In whom also we were taken as an inheritance, according to the purpose of him who energiseth all things according to the counsel of his will,
pūrvvaṁ khrīṣṭē viśvāsinō yē vayam asmattō yat tasya mahimnaḥ praśaṁsā jāyatē,
12 That we should be for the praise of his glory—we who had hoped beforehand in the Christ, —
tadarthaṁ yaḥ svakīyēcchāyāḥ mantraṇātaḥ sarvvāṇi sādhayati tasya manōrathād vayaṁ khrīṣṭēna pūrvvaṁ nirūpitāḥ santō'dhikāriṇō jātāḥ|
13 In whom, ye also—hearing the word of the truth, the glad-message of your salvation, —in whom also believing, —were sealed with the Spirit of the promise, the Holy [Spirit],
yūyamapi satyaṁ vākyam arthatō yuṣmatparitrāṇasya susaṁvādaṁ niśamya tasminnēva khrīṣṭē viśvasitavantaḥ pratijñātēna pavitrēṇātmanā mudrayēvāṅkitāśca|
14 Which is an earnest of our inheritance, unto the redemption of the acquisition; —unto his glorious praise.
yatastasya mahimnaḥ prakāśāya tēna krītānāṁ lōkānāṁ mukti ryāvanna bhaviṣyati tāvat sa ātmāsmākam adhikāritvasya satyaṅkārasya paṇasvarūpō bhavati|
15 For this cause, I also, —having heard of the faith on your part in the Lord Jesus, and that towards all the saints,
prabhau yīśau yuṣmākaṁ viśvāsaḥ sarvvēṣu pavitralōkēṣu prēma cāsta iti vārttāṁ śrutvāhamapi
16 Cease not giving thanks in your behalf, making mention in my prayers,
yuṣmānadhi nirantaram īśvaraṁ dhanyaṁ vadan prārthanāsamayē ca yuṣmān smaran varamimaṁ yācāmi|
17 That, the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, would give you a Spirit of wisdom and understanding in gaining a personal knowledge of him, —
asmākaṁ prabhō ryīśukhrīṣṭasya tātō yaḥ prabhāvākara īśvaraḥ sa svakīyatattvajñānāya yuṣmabhyaṁ jñānajanakam prakāśitavākyabōdhakañcātmānaṁ dēyāt|
18 The eyes of your heart having been enlightened, that ye may know—what is the hope of his calling, what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
yuṣmākaṁ jñānacakṣūṁṣi ca dīptiyuktāni kr̥tvā tasyāhvānaṁ kīdr̥śyā pratyāśayā sambalitaṁ pavitralōkānāṁ madhyē tēna dattō'dhikāraḥ kīdr̥śaḥ prabhāvanidhi rviśvāsiṣu cāsmāsu prakāśamānasya
19 And what the surpassing greatness of his power unto us who believe, —according to the energy of the grasp of his might
tadīyamahāparākramasya mahatvaṁ kīdr̥g anupamaṁ tat sarvvaṁ yuṣmān jñāpayatu|
20 which he energised in the Christ, when he raised him from among the dead, and seated him at his right hand in the heavenlies,
yataḥ sa yasyāḥ śaktēḥ prabalatāṁ khrīṣṭē prakāśayan mr̥tagaṇamadhyāt tam utthāpitavān,
21 Over-above all principality, authority, and power, and lordship, and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in the coming one, (aiōn )
adhipatitvapadaṁ śāsanapadaṁ parākramō rājatvañcētināmāni yāvanti padānīha lōkē paralōkē ca vidyantē tēṣāṁ sarvvēṣām ūrddhvē svargē nijadakṣiṇapārśvē tam upavēśitavān, (aiōn )
22 And did put, all things, in subjection beneath his feet. And gave him to be head over all things unto the assembly,
sarvvāṇi tasya caraṇayōradhō nihitavān yā samitistasya śarīraṁ sarvvatra sarvvēṣāṁ pūrayituḥ pūrakañca bhavati taṁ tasyā mūrddhānaṁ kr̥tvā
23 Which, indeed, is his body, the fulness of him who, the all things in all, is for himself filling up.
sarvvēṣām uparyyupari niyuktavāṁśca saiva śaktirasmāsvapi tēna prakāśyatē|
