Ecclesiastes 11
1 Cast thy bread-corn, upon the face of the waters, —for, after many days, shalt thou find it:
Wirf dein Brot hin auf die Fläche der Wasser, denn nach vielen Tagen wirst du es finden.
2 Give a portion to seven, yea even to eight, —for thou canst not know, what there shall be of misfortune, upon the earth.
Gib einen Teil an sieben, ja, sogar an acht [O. zerlege den Teil in sieben, ja, sogar in acht; ] denn du weißt nicht, was für Unglück sich auf der Erde ereignen wird. -
3 If the clouds be filled with a downpour, upon the earth, will they empty themselves, and, if a tree fall in the south or in the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there will it be found.
Wenn die Wolken voll Regen sind, so entleeren sie sich auf die Erde; und wenn ein Baum nach Süden oder nach Norden fällt: an dem Orte, wo der Baum fällt, da bleibt er liegen. -
4 He that observeth the wind, will not sow, —and, he that watcheth the clouds, will not reap.
Wer auf den Wind achtet, wird nicht säen, und wer auf die Wolken sieht, wird nicht ernten. -
5 Just as thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, when the body is in the womb of her that is with child, even, so, canst thou not know the work of God, who maketh all.
Gleichwie du nicht weißt, welches der Weg des Windes ist, wie die Gebeine in dem Leibe der Schwangeren sich bilden, ebenso weißt du das Werk Gottes nicht, der alles wirkt. -
6 In the morning, sow thy seed, and, until evening, do not withhold thy hand, —for thou knowest not—whether shall thrive, either this or that, or whether, both alike, shall be fruitful.
Am Morgen säe deinen Samen, und des Abends ziehe deine Hand nicht ab; denn du weißt nicht, welches gedeihen wird: ob dieses oder jenes, oder ob beides zugleich gut werden wird. -
7 Truly sweet is the light, —and, pleasant to the eyes, to see the sun:
Und süß ist das Licht, und wohltuend den Augen, die Sonne zu sehen.
8 But, though, many years, a man live, through them all, let him rejoice; yet let him remember the days of darkness, for many they may be, all that cometh, may be vanity.
Denn wenn der Mensch auch viele Jahre lebt, möge er in ihnen allen sich freuen und der Tage der Finsternis gedenken, daß ihrer viele sein werden: alles, was kommt, ist Eitelkeit.
9 Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth, and let thy heart gladden thee in the days of thine early manhood, and walk thou—in the ways of thine own heart, and in that which is seen by thine own eyes, —yet know, that, for all these things, will God bring thee into judgment.
Freue dich, Jüngling, in deiner Jugend, und dein Herz mache dich fröhlich in den Tagen deiner Jugendzeit, und wandle in den Wegen deines Herzens und im Anschauen deiner Augen; doch wisse, daß um dies alles Gott dich ins Gericht bringen wird.
10 Therefore remove thou vexation from thy heart, and put away discomfort from thy flesh, —for, youth and dawn, are vanity!
Und entferne den Unmut aus deinem Herzen, und tue das Übel von deinem Leibe weg; denn die Jugend und das Mannesalter [Eig. das schwarze Haar And. üb.: die Morgenröte] sind Eitelkeit.
