Deuteronomy 1
1 These, are the words, which Moses spake unto all Israel, over the Jordan, —in the wilderness in the waste plain over against Suph, between Paran and Tophel, and Laban and Hazeroth and Di-zahab:
१यार्देन नदीच्या पूर्वेकडील रानात अराबामध्ये सुफासमोर, पारान, तोफेल, लाबान, हसेरोथ व दि-जाहाब यांच्या दरम्यान मोशे सर्व इस्राएलाशी वचने बोलला ती ही.
2 eleven days from Horeb, by way of Mount Seir, as far as Kadesh-barnea.
२होरेबपासून कादेश-बर्ण्यापर्यंतचा प्रवास सेईर डोंगरामार्गे अकरा दिवसाचा आहे.
3 And it came to pass, in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first of the month, that Moses spake unto the sons of Israel, according to all that Yahweh had given him in charge for them;
३हे मिसर सोडल्यानंतर चाळीसाव्या वर्षी घडले, अकराव्या महिन्यातील पहिल्या दिवशी मोशे इस्राएल लोकांशी हे बोलला, परमेश्वराने जे काही सांगायची आज्ञा केली; ते सर्व त्याने सांगितले.
4 after he had smitten Sihon, king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, —and Og, king of Bashan, who dwelt in Ashtaroth, in Edrei:
४अमोऱ्यांचा राजा सीहोन आणि बाशानाचा राजा ओग यांच्यावर परमेश्वराने हल्ला केल्यानंतरची ही गोष्ट आहे. (सीहोन अमोरी लोकांचा राजा होता. तो हेशबोनमध्ये राहत असे. ओग बाशानाचा राजा होता. तो अष्टारोथ व एद्रई येथे राहणारा होता.)
5 over the Jordan, in the land of Moab, did Moses take in hand to expound this law, saying: —
५परमेश्वराच्या आज्ञेप्रमाणे मोशे आता यार्देनच्या पलीकडे पुर्वेस मवाबाच्या देशात नियमांचे विवरण करू लागला. तो म्हणाला,
6 Yahweh our God, spake unto us in Horeb, saying, Long enough, have ye dwelt in this mountain:
६आपला देव परमेश्वर होरेबात आपल्याशी बोलला, या डोंगरात तुम्ही पुष्कळ दिवस राहीला आहात.
7 Turn ye and set yourselves forward, and enter into the hill country of the Amorites, and into all the places near, in the plain, in the mountain, and in the lowland, and in the south, and in the coast of the sea, —the land of Canaan and the Lebanon, as far as the great river, the river Euphrates.
७आता तुम्ही येथून अमोऱ्यांच्या डोंगराळ प्रदेशात जा आसपासच्या सर्व प्रदेशात प्रवास करा यार्देनेच्या खोऱ्यात, अराबाच्या पहाडी प्रदेशात, पश्चिमेकडील उतारावर, नेगेबमध्ये समुद्रकिनारी कनान आणि लबानोन मार्गे फरात या महानदीपर्यंत जा.
8 See! I have set before you the land, —enter and possess the land, which, Yahweh sware unto your fathers to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give unto them, and unto their seed, after them.
८पाहा हा प्रदेश मी तुम्हास देऊ करत आहे जा आणि त्यावर ताबा मिळवा अब्राहाम, इसहाक आणि याकोब या तुमच्या पूर्वजांना व त्यांच्यानंतर त्यांच्या वंशजांना हा प्रदेश देण्याचे परमेश्वराने वचन दिले होते.
9 So I spake unto you, at that time saying, I am unable, by myself, to carry you.
९तेव्हा मी तुम्हास म्हणालो होतो की “मी एकटा तुमचा सांभाळ करू शकणार नाही.
10 Yahweh your God hath multiplied you, and here ye are to-day, like the stars of the heavens for multitude.
१०आणि आता तर तुमची संख्या कितीतरी वाढली आहे परमेश्वर देवाच्या कृपेने ती वाढून आकाशातील ताऱ्यांइतकी झाली आहे.
11 Yahweh, the God of your fathers, be adding unto you the like of you, a thousand times, —and bless you, as he hath spoken unto you!
११तुमच्या पूर्वजांचा देव परमेश्वर, ह्याच्या कृपेने आणखी वाढून आताच्या हजारपट होवो आणि त्याने कबूल केल्याप्रमाणे त्याचा आशीर्वाद तुम्हास मिळो.
12 How should I carry by myself the fatigue of you and the burden of you and your controversies?
१२परंतु मी एकटा तुमचा भार तसेच तुमची आपापसांतली भांडणे कोठवर सहन करू?
13 Set forth for you—men wise and discerning, and known to your tribes, —that I may appoint them to be heads over you.
१३म्हणून मी तुम्हास सांगितले, आपापल्या वंशातून अनुभवी, ज्ञानी व समंजस व्यक्तींची निवड करा. मी त्यांना तुमचे प्रमुख म्हणून नेमतो.”
14 And ye answered me, —and said, Good, is the word which thou hast spoken to be done.
१४त्यावर, “हे चांगलेच झाले असे” तुम्ही मला उत्तर देऊन म्हणालात.
15 So I took heads for your tribes wise men and known, and placed them as heads over you, captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, and captains of fifties and captains of tens, and overseers for your tribes.
१५म्हणून मी त्या ज्ञानी व अनुभवी व्यक्तींना तुमचे प्रमुख म्हणून नेमले. हजारांच्या समूहावर एक अधिकारी, शंभरांवर एक, पन्नासांवर, दहावर तसेच घराण्यावर अशा या अधिकाऱ्यांच्या नेमणुका केल्या.
16 And I charged your judges, at that time, saying, —Ye are to hear between your brethren and shall judge righteously, between each man and his brother and his sojourner.
१६या न्यायाधीशांना मी त्यावेळी सांगितले की तुमच्या भाऊबंदांतील वाद नीट ऐकून घ्या. निवाडा करताना पक्षपात करू नका मग तो वाद दोन भावांमधला असो की एखादा मनुष्य व त्याचा भाऊबंद व उपरी यांच्यातील असो. नीतिने न्याय करा.
17 Ye shall not take note of faces in judgment—so the small as the great, shall ye hear, ye shall not shrink from the face of any man, for judgment, unto God, belongeth, —but the thing which is too hard for you, shall ye bring near unto me, and I will hear it.
१७न्याय करताना कोणालाही कमी लेखू नका. लहान मोठ्यांचे सारखे ऐकून घ्या. कोणाचे तोंड पाहून घाबरू नका; कारण न्याय करणे देवाचे काम आहे. एखादे प्रकरण तुम्हास विशेष अवघड वाटले तर ते माझ्याकडे आणा. मी त्याचा निवाडा करीन.
18 So I commanded you at that time all the things which ye should do.
१८तुमच्या इतर कर्तव्यांबद्दलही मी तेव्हाच तुम्हास आज्ञा केली होती.
19 And when we brake up from Horeb, we came through all that great and terrible desert which ye saw, by way of the hill-country of the Amorites, as Yahweh our God commanded us, —and we entered in as far as Kadesh-barnea.
१९मग आपला देव परमेश्वर ह्याच्या आज्ञेनुसार आपण होरेबहून पुढे अमोऱ्यांच्या डोंगराळ प्रदेशाकडे निघालो तेव्हा वाटेत तुम्हास ते विस्तीर्ण आणि भयंकर रान लागले ते सर्व ओलांडून आपण कादेश-बर्ण्याला पोहचलो.
20 Then said I unto you, —Ye are come in as far as the hill-country of the Amorites, which Yahweh our God, is giving unto us.
२०मी तुम्हास म्हणालो की पाहा, “अमोऱ्यांच्या पहाडी प्रदेशात तुम्ही पोहोचलात आपला देव परमेश्वर तुम्हास हा प्रदेश देत आहे.
21 See thou—Yahweh thy God hath set before thee the land, —go up—take possession as Yahweh the God of thy fathers hath spoken unto thee, do not fear, neither be dismayed.
२१पाहा हा प्रदेश तुझा देव परमेश्वर याने पुढे ठेवला आहे. पूर्वजांचा परमेश्वर ह्याच्या आज्ञेनुसार तो हस्तगत करा. कचरू नका व कशाचीही भीती बाळगू नका.”
22 And ye came near unto me all of you, and said Let us send men before us, that they may search out for us the land, —and bring us back word, the way by which we must go up, and the cities whereinto we must enter,
२२पण तेव्हा तुम्ही सगळे मला म्हणालात, “आधी आपण काही जणांना त्या प्रदेशाच्या पाहाणीसाठी पुढे पाठवू म्हणजे ते त्या देशाची माहिती मिळवून आपल्याला कोणत्या मार्गाने जावे लागेल, कोणकोणती नगरे तेथे लागतील याची खबर आणतील.”
23 And the thing, was good in mine eyes, —so I took from among you twelve men, one man for each tribe.
२३मलाही ते पटले म्हणून प्रत्येक घराण्यातून एक अशी बारा माणसे मी निवडली.
24 And they turned and went up the hill-country, and entered in as far as the ravine of Eshcol, and explored it.
२४ते लोक मग निघाले व पहाडी प्रदेशात जाऊन अष्कोल ओढ्यापर्यंत पोहचले व त्यांनी तो देश हेरला.
25 And they took in their hand of the fruit of the country, and bare it down unto us, and brought us back word, and said, Good is the land, which Yahweh our God, is giving unto us.
२५येताना त्यांनी तिकडची काही फळे बरोबर आणली. त्या प्रदेशाची माहिती सांगितली व ते म्हणाले, “आपला देव परमेश्वर देत असलेला देश हा उत्तम आहे.”
26 Nevertheless ye were not willing to go up, —but rebelled against the bidding of Yahweh, your God;
२६तथापि तुम्ही तेथे हल्ला करण्याचे नाकारले आपला देव परमेश्वर याच्या आज्ञेविरूद्ध बंड केले.
27 and murmured in your tents and said, Because Yahweh hated us, hath he brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, —to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us.
२७तुम्ही आपापल्या तंबूत जाऊन कुरकुर करत म्हणालात परमेश्वर आमचा द्वेष करतो अमोऱ्यांच्या हातून आमचा नाश व्हावा म्हणूनच आम्हास त्याने मिसर देशातून बाहेर काढले आहे.
28 Whither, are, we, to go up? Our own brethren, have made our heart melt saying—A people greater and taller than we, cities large and walled-up into the heavens, —yea, moreover sons of Anakim, have we seen there.
२८आता आम्ही कोठे जाणार? आमच्या या भावांच्या बातम्यांमुळे घाबरून आमच्या हृदयाचे पाणीपाणी झाले आहे. त्यांच्यानुसार हे लोक धिप्पाड व आमच्यापेक्षा उंच आहेत. तेथील नगरे मोठी असून त्यांची तटबंदी आकाशाला भिडली आहे. आणि तेथे अनाकी वंशाचे महाकाय आहेत.
29 Then I said unto you, —Ye must not tremble, nor be afraid of them:
२९तेव्हा मी तुम्हास म्हणालो, “भिऊ नका, त्या लोकांस घाबरू नका.
30 Yahweh your God, who is going before you, he, will fight for you, —according to all that he did with you in Egypt, before your eyes;
३०स्वत: परमेश्वर देव तुमच्यापुढे जात आहे. मिसर देशात तुमच्यासमोर त्याने जे केले तेच तो येथेही करील, तो तुमच्यासाठी लढेल;
31 also in the desert which thou hast seen, where Yahweh thy God carried thee as a man will carry his son, throughout all the way that ye journeyed, until ye entered as far as, this place.
३१तसेच रानातल्या वाटचालीतही तुम्ही पाहीले, त्यामध्ये तुमचा देव परमेश्वर तुमच्यापुढे होता. मनुष्य आपल्या मुलाला जपून नेतो तसे त्याने तुम्हास येथपर्यंत सांभाळून आणले.”
32 But in this thing, ye were putting no trust in Yahweh your God;
३२तरीही तुम्ही आपल्या परमेश्वर देवावर विश्वास ठेवला नाही.
33 who was going before you in the way—to search out for you a place, where ye might encamp, —in the fire by night, that ye might get sight of the way wherein ye should go, and in the cloud, by day.
३३परमेश्वर प्रवासात तुमच्यासाठी मुक्कामाचे ठिकाण शोधायला तसेच रात्री अग्नीत व दिवसा मेघात प्रकट होऊन तुम्हास मार्गदर्शन करायला तुमच्यापुढे चालत असे.
34 And Yahweh heard the voice of your words, —and was wroth and sware—saying:
३४परमेश्वराने तुमचे बोलणे ऐकले व तो संतापला शपथपूर्वक तो म्हणाला,
35 Surely, not one of these men, this wicked generation, —shall see the good land, which I sware to give unto your fathers:
३५“तुमच्या पूर्वजांना शपथ वाहून देवू केलेला हा उत्तम प्रदेश या दुष्ट पिढीतील एकाच्याही दृष्टीस पडणार नाही,
36 saving Caleb son of Jephunneh, he, shall see it, and unto him, will I give the land through which he hath trodden, and unto his sons, —because he hath wholly followed Yahweh.
३६यफुन्नेचा मुलगा कालेब मात्र तो पाहील त्याचे पाय या भूमीला लागले आहेत. त्यास व त्याच्या वंशजांना मी ही भूमी देईल. कारण तो परमेश्वराचा खरा अनुयायी आहे.”
37 Even with me, did Yahweh show himself angry, for your sakes, saying, —Even thou, shalt not enter therein.
३७तुमच्यामुळे परमेश्वराचा माझ्यावरही कोप झाला. तो म्हणाला, मोशे, “तूही या प्रदेशात प्रवेश करणार नाहीस.
38 Joshua son of Nun, who standeth before thee, he, shall enter in thither, him, strengthen thou, for he, shall cause Israel to inherit it.
३८पण तुझ्या सेवेस हजर राहणारा, नूनाचा मुलगा यहोशवा तेथे जाईल त्यास तू प्रोत्साहन दे, कारण तो इस्राएलांना देश वतन म्हणून मिळवून देईल.
39 And your little ones, of whom ye said they should become, a prey, and your sons who to-day know not good and evil, they, shall enter in thither, —and unto them, will I give it, and they, shall possess it.
३९परमेश्वर पुढे आपल्याला म्हणाला, शिवाय आपले शत्रू आपल्या मुलाबाळांना पळवतील असे तुम्ही म्हणालात ती आज जी तुमची मुले बरे किंवा वाईट जाणत नाहीत ती मात्र या देशात जातील आणि त्यांना मी तो देश देईन व ते देश ते हस्तगत करतील.
40 But as for you, turn ye, for your part, —and set forward towards the desert, by way of the Red Sea.
४०पण तुम्ही परत फिरून तांबड्या समुद्राच्या वाटेने रानाकडे कूच करा.”
41 Then responded ye and said unto me—We have sinned against Yahweh, We, ourselves, will go up, and fight, according to all that Yahweh our God hath commanded us. And when ye had girded on every man his weapons of war, ye foolishly went up towards the hill-country.
४१मग तुम्ही मला असे उत्तर दिले की “आमच्या हातून परमेश्वराविरुध्द पाप घडले आहे आपल्या परमेश्वर देवाच्या आज्ञेनुसार आम्ही वर जाऊन लढू.” मग प्रत्येक मनुष्याने आपली शस्त्रास्त्रे घेतली. आणि तुम्ही डोंगराळ प्रदेशावर चढावयला तयार झाला.
42 Then said Yahweh unto me—Say unto them Ye shall not go up, nor fight, for I am not in your midst, —lest ye should be smitten before your enemies.
४२परमेश्वर मला म्हणाला, “त्यांना तेथे सांग युद्ध करू नका. कारण मी त्यांच्या बरोबर नाही. शत्रू त्यांना पराभूत करेल.”
43 So I spake unto you howbeit ye hearkened not, —but rebelled against the bidding of Yahweh, and presumptuously went up the hill-country.
४३त्याप्रमाणे तुम्हास मी सांगितले. पण तुम्ही ऐकले नाही. तुम्ही परमेश्वराची आज्ञा पाळली नाही. आणि धिटाई करून त्या डोंगराळ प्रदेशात चढाई करून गेलात.
44 Then came forth the Amorites who were dwelling in that country, to meet you, and they chased you, as do, bees; and struck you down in Seir, as far as Hormah.
४४तेव्हा तेथील अमोरी तुमच्याशी सामना करायला सामोरे आले. आणि चवताळलेल्या मधमाश्यांप्रमाणे त्यांनी सेईर देशातील हर्मापर्यंत तुम्हास पिटाळून लावले.
45 So then ye returned and wept before Yahweh, —but Yahweh hearkened not unto your voice, nor gave ear unto you.
४५मग तुम्ही परत येऊन परमेश्वराकडे रडू लागला. पण त्याने तुमचे काहीही ऐकले नाही.
46 And ye abode in Kadesh many days, —how many were the days that ye abode [there]!
४६तेव्हा तुम्ही कादेश येथे बरेच दिवस राहिला ते तुम्हास माहितच आहे.
