Deuteronomy 6
1 This, then is the commandment—[namely] the statutes and the regulations, which Yahweh your God hath commanded to teach you, —that ye may do them in the land whither ye are passing over to possess it:
Dies aber sind die Gebote, die Satzungen und Rechte, die ich euch nach dem Befehle Jahwes, eures Gottes, lehren soll, damit ihr sie dort in dem Land, in das ihr hinüberzieht, um es in Besitz zu nehmen, befolgen sollt,
2 that thou mayest revere Yahweh thy God, [so as] to keep all his statutes and his commandments which I am commanding thee, thou and thy son and thy sons’ son, all the days of thy life, —and that thy days may be prolonged.
damit du, dein Sohn und dein Enkel, dein Leben lang in Furcht vor Jahwe, deinem Gott, alle seine Satzungen und Gebote haltest, die ich dir befehle, und damit du infolgedessen lange lebest.
3 Therefore shalt thou hear, O Israel, and shalt observe to do, that it may be well with thee, and that ye may multiply greatly, as Yahweh the God of thy fathers hath spoken to thee, in a land flowing with milk and honey.
Hast du sie aber gehört, Israel, so trage Sorge, sie zu befolgen, damit es dir wohl gehe und ihr überaus zahlreich werdet, wie Jahwe, der Gott deiner Väter, dir verheißen hat, ein Land, das von Milch und Honig überfließt.
4 Hear, O Israel: Yahweh, is our God, —Yahweh alone.
Höre, Israel! Jahwe, unser Gott, Jahwe ist nur einer!
5 Thou shalt therefore love Yahweh thy God, —with all thy heart and with all thy soul, and with all thy might;
Und du sollst Jahwe, deinen Gott, lieben von ganzem Herzen, von ganzer Seele und mit aller deiner Kraft.
6 so shall these words which I am commanding thee to-day, be upon thy heart;
Diese Worte, die ich dir heute vorlege, sollen dir im Herzen bleiben;
7 and thou shalt impress them upon thy sons, and shalt speak of them, —when thou sittest in thy house and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down and when thou risest up;
auch sollst du sie deinen Kindern einschärfen und von ihnen reden, wenn du in deinem Hause weilst oder dich auf Reisen befindest, wenn du dich niederlegst und wieder aufstehst.
8 and thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thy hand, —and they shall serve for bands between thine eyes;
Du sollst sie als ein Denkzeichen auf deine Hand binden und als Stirnbänder zwischen den Augen haben
9 and thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house and within thy gates.
und sollst sie auf die Pfosten deines Hauses und an deine Thore schreiben.
10 So shall it be, when Yahweh thy God shall bring thee into the land, which he sware to thy fathers—to Abraham to Isaac and to Jacob to give unto thee, —into cities great and goodly, which thou didst not build;
Wenn dich nun Jahwe, dein Gott, in das Land bringen wird, das er dir kraft des deinen Vätern Abraham, Isaak und Jakob geleisteten Eides verleihen will, in ein Land mit großen und schönen Städten, die du nicht gebaut hast,
11 and houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and hewn cisterns which thou hewedst not, vineyards and oliveyards which thou plantedst not, —and shalt eat and be full,
mit Häusern, die ohne dein Zuthun mit Gütern jeder Art angefüllt sind, mit ausgehauenen Cisternen, die du nicht ausgehauen hast, und mit Wein- und Olivengärten, die du nicht gepflanzt hast, und du dich satt darin issest,
12 take heed unto thyself, lest thou forget Yahweh, —who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt out of the house of servants.
so hüte dich wohl, daß du nicht Jahwes vergessest, der dich aus Ägypten, dem Lande, wo du Sklave warst, hinweggeführt hat!
13 Yahweh thy God, shalt thou revere And him, shalt thou serve, —And by his name, shalt thou swear.
Jahwe, deinen Gott, sollst du fürchten, ihn sollst du verehren und bei seinem Namen schwören;
14 Ye shall not go after other gods, —of the gods of the peoples who are surrounding you;
nicht aber dürft ihr irgend einem anderen Gotte nachgehen von den Göttern der Völker, welche rings um euch wohnen.
15 for a jealous GOD, is Yahweh thy God in thy midst, —lest the anger of Yahweh thy God kindle upon thee, and so he destroy thee from off the face of the ground.
Denn Jahwe, dein Gott, ist ein eifersüchtiger Gott in deiner Mitte; gar leicht könnte Jahwe, dein Gott, zornig über dich werden und dich vom Erdboden vertilgen!
16 Ye shall not put Yahweh your God to the proof, —as ye put him to the proof in Massah [that is, "The place of proving"].
Ihr sollt Jahwe, euren Gott, nicht versuchen, wie ihr ihn versucht habt in Massa.
17 Ye shall, keep, the commandments of Yahweh your God and his testimonies and his statutes which he hath commanded thee;
Vielmehr sollt ihr die Gebote Jahwes, eures Gottes, halten, seine Verordnungen und Satzungen, die er dir gegeben hat,
18 so shalt thou do what is right and what is pleasing in the eyes of Yahweh, —that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest enter in and possess the good land, which Yahweh sware unto thy fathers;
und sollst thun, was recht und gut ist in den Augen Jahwes, damit es dir wohl gehe und du hineinkommest und das schöne Land, das Jahwe deinen Vätern zugeschworen hat, in Besitz nehmest,
19 to thrust out all thine enemies from before thee, —As spake Yahweh.
wenn Jahwe, wie er verheißen hat, alle deine Feinde vor dir verjagt.
20 When thy son shall ask thee in time to come, saying, —What mean the testimonies and the statutes and the regulations, which Yahweh our God commanded you?
Wenn dich künftig dein Sohn fragt: Was haben diese Verordnungen, Satzungen und Rechte zu bedeuten, die Jahwe, unser Gott, euch befohlen hat?
21 Then shalt thou say unto thy son, Servants, were we unto Pharaoh in Egypt, —and Yahweh brought us forth out of Egypt with a firm hand;
so sollst du deinem Sohne antworten: Wir waren Sklaven des Pharao in Ägypten, aber Jahwe führte uns mit starker Hand aus Ägypten hinweg.
22 and Yahweh put forth signs and wonders great and sore upon Egypt upon Pharaoh and upon all his household before our eyes;
Jahwe that vor unseren Augen große und verderbenbringende Zeichen und Wunder an Ägypten, am Pharao und an seinem ganzen Hause;
23 but he brought us forth from thence, —that he might bring us in, to give unto us the land, which he sware unto our fathers.
uns aber führte er von dort hinweg, um uns hineinzubringen und uns das Land zu geben, das er unseren Vätern zugeschworen hatte.
24 So then Yahweh commanded us to do all these statutes, to revere Yahweh our God, —for our good, all the days, to preserve us alive (as at this day);
Und Jahwe befahl uns, alle diese Satzungen zu befolgen, indem wir Jahwe, unseren Gott, fürchteten, damit wir immerdar glücklich seien und er uns am Leben erhalte, wie bisher.
25 and righteousness, shall it be to us, —when we take heed to do all this commandment, before Yahweh our God, as he commanded us.
Und wir werden rechtschaffen vor Jahwe, unserem Gotte, dastehen, wenn wir darauf bedacht sein werden, alle diese Gebote zu befolgen, wie er uns befohlen hat.
