Deuteronomy 5
1 Then called Moses unto all Israel and said unto them—Hear, O Israel, the statutes and the regulations, which I am speaking in your ears to-day, —so shall ye learn them, and observe to do them.
Entonces Moisés mandó llamar a todo Israel y les dijo: Escucha, oh Israel, las leyes y las decisiones que les doy hoy, concédeles atención para que puedan guardarlas y cumplirlas.
2 Yahweh our God, solemnised with us a covenant in Horeb:
El Señor nuestro Dios hizo un pacto con nosotros en Horeb.
3 not with our fathers did Yahweh solemnise this covenant, —but with us, ourselves—these here to-day, all of us living.
El Señor no hizo este pacto con nuestros padres solamente, sino con nosotros, que todos vivimos y estamos presentes aquí hoy.
4 Face to face, spake Yahweh with you in the mount out of the midst of the fire,
La palabra del Señor vino cara a cara en la montaña, del corazón del fuego.
5 (I was standing between Yahweh and you, at that time, to declare unto you the word of Yahweh, —for ye shrank with fear from the presence of the fire, and went not up in the mount) saying: —
Yo estaba entre el Señor y ustedes en ese momento, para aclararles la palabra del Señor, porque por temor al fuego, no subieron a la montaña. Él Señor dijo:
6 I, am Yahweh thy God, who have brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt out of the house of servants: —
Yo soy él Señor tu Dios, que te saqué de la tierra de Egipto, de la casa de esclavitud.
7 Thou shalt not have other gods, besides me:
No debes tener otros dioses más que yo.
8 Thou shalt not make unto thee an image, any form that is in the heavens above, or that is in the earth beneath or that is in the waters beneath the earth:
No harás una imagen en forma de nada semejante con lo que hay el cielo o en la tierra o en las aguas debajo de la tierra.
9 thou shalt not bow thyself down to them nor be led to serve them, —for, I Yahweh thy God, am a jealous GOD, visiting the iniquity of fathers upon sons even unto three generations and unto four, unto them that hate me;
No te inclines ante ellos ni los adores. Yo soy, el Señor, tu Dios, soy un Dios celoso que no le dará su honor a otro; y enviaré castigo a los hijos por la maldad de sus padres, a la tercera y cuarta generación de los que me aborrecen;
10 but shewing lovingkindness unto a thousand generation—unto them who love me, and keep my commandments:
Y tendré misericordia a través de mil generaciones con los que me aman y guardan mis leyes.
11 Thou shalt not utter the name of Yahweh thy God, for falsehood, —for Yahweh will not let him go unpunished who uttereth his name for falsehood:
No debes hacer uso del nombre del Señor tu Dios con un propósito malo; quienquiera que tome el nombre del Señor en sus labios para un propósito maligno será juzgado como un pecador por el Señor.
12 Observe the sabbath day, to hallow it, —as Yahweh thy God, hath commanded thee:
Guarden el día de reposo como un día santo, como lo ordenó el Señor su Dios.
13 six days, shalt thou labour, and do all thy work;
En seis días haz todo tu trabajo:
14 but, the seventh day, is a sabbath unto Yahweh thy God, —thou shalt do no work—thou nor thy son nor thy daughter nor thy servant nor thy handmaid nor thine ox nor thine ass nor any of thy cattle, nor thy sojourner who is within thy gates, that thy servant and thy handmaid may rest, as well as thou.
Pero el séptimo día es un día de reposo para el Señor tu Dios; en ese día no trabajes, tú o tu hijo o tu hija, o tu sirviente o tu sirvienta, o tu buey o tu asno o cualquiera de tus ganados, o el hombre de un país extraño que vive entre ti; para que tu siervo y tu sierva descansen tan bien como tú.
15 So shalt thou remember that a servant, wast thou in the land of Egypt, and that Yahweh thy God brought thee forth from thence, with a firm hand, and with a stretched-out arm, —for this cause, hath Yahweh thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day:
Y ten en cuenta que fuiste siervo en la tierra de Egipto, y que el Señor tu Dios te sacó de esa tierra con su mano fuerte y su brazo extendido: por esta razón el Señor te ha dado órdenes de guardar el día de reposo.
16 Honour thy father and thy mother, as Yahweh thy God hath commanded thee, —that thy days may be prolonged and that it may go well with thee, upon the soil which Yahweh thy God is about to give unto thee:
Honra a tu padre y a tu madre, según lo ordenado por el Señor tu Dios; para que tu vida sea larga y todo esté bien para ti en la tierra que el Señor tu Dios te está dando.
17 Thou shalt not commit murder:
No maten a nadie sin causa.
18 Neither shalt thou commit adultery:
No cometas adulterio.
19 Neither shalt thou steal:
No robes.
20 Neither shalt thou testify against thy neighbour with a witness of falsehood:
No des falsos testimonios contra tu prójimo;
21 Neither shalt thou covet thy neighbour’s wife, —neither shalt thou desire thy neighbour’s house, his field, or his servant, or his handmaid, his ox or his ass, or anything that is thy neighbour’s.
No codicies la esposa de tu vecino, su casa o su campo o su sirviente o su sirvienta o su buey o su asno o cualquier cosa que sea de su vecino.
22 These words, spake Yahweh unto all the convocation of you in the mount out of the midst of the fire the cloud and the thick gloom, a loud voice, and added not, —and he wrote them upon two tables of stone, and gave them unto me.
Estas palabras les dijo el Señor a todos ustedes juntos en la montaña, desde en medio del fuego, desde la nube y la oscuridad, con gran voz: y él no dijo nada más; Las puso por escrito sobre las dos piedras de la ley y me las dio.
23 And it came to pass, when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, the mountain also burning with fire, then drew ye near unto me, even all the heads of your tribes and your elders,
Y después de oír la voz que salía de la oscuridad, mientras la montaña ardía con fuego, todos los jefes de sus tribus y sus ancianos vinieron a mí.
24 and ye said—Lo! Yahweh our God hath let us see his glory and his greatness, his voice also, have we heard out of the midst of the fire, —this day, have we seen, that God may speak with man who yet may live.
Y dijo: El Señor nos ha permitido ver su gloria y su poder, y su voz nos ha llegado desde en medio del fuego: hoy hemos visto que un hombre puede seguir viviendo incluso después de escuchar la voz de Dios.
25 Now, therefore why should we die? for this great fire, will consume, us, —if we ourselves, hear the voice of Yahweh our God any more, we shall die.
¿Por qué, entonces hemos de morir? Porque si la voz del Señor nuestro Dios viene más a nosotros, la muerte nos alcanzará, y seremos quemados en este gran fuego.
26 For who [is there] of all flesh, that ever heard the voice of a Living God speaking out of the midst of fire as we, and yet lived?
Porque, ¿qué hombre hay en toda la tierra, quien, oyendo la voz del Dios vivo como lo hemos hecho, de en medio del fuego, y haya sobrevivido?
27 Go, thou, near, and hear, all that Yahweh our God shall say, —so shalt thou speak unto us, all that Yahweh our God shall speak unto thee and we will hear and do.
Mejor acércate tú; y después de escuchar todo lo que el Señor nuestro Dios tiene que decir, cuéntanos todo lo que te ha dicho, y lo escucharemos, y lo haremos.
28 And Yahweh heard the voice of your words, when ye spake unto me, —and Yahweh said unto me—I have heard the voice of the words of this people which they have spoken unto thee, they have well said all which they have spoken.
Entonces el Señor, al oír tus palabras, me dijo: Las palabras que este pueblo te ha dicho han llegado a mis oídos: lo que han dicho está bien dicho.
29 Oh that this their heart might remain in them to revere me, and to keep all my commandments all the days, —that it might be well with them and with their sons unto times age-abiding.
¡Si tan solo tuvieran un corazón así en todo momento, para que puedan temerme y cumplir mis órdenes y que esté bien para ellos y para sus hijos para siempre!
30 Go, say unto them, —Return ye to your tents.
Ahora diles: regresen a sus tiendas.
31 Thou, therefore here stand with me and let me speak unto thee—all the commandment and the statutes and the regulations which thou shalt teach them, —that they may do [them] in the land which I am giving unto them to possess it.
Pero en cuanto a ti, mantén tu lugar aquí a mi lado, y te daré todas las órdenes y las leyes y las decisiones que debes enseñarles, para que puedan cumplirlas en la tierra que yo les voy a dar en propiedad por su herencia.
32 So then ye must observe to do, as Yahweh your God hath commanded you, —ye must not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.
Cuídate, pues, de hacer lo que el Señor, tu Dios, te ha ordenado que hagas; que no haya vuelta a la derecha ni a la izquierda.
33 In all the way which Yahweh your God hath commanded you, must ye walk, —that ye may live and it be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land, which ye shall possess.
Sigue el camino que el Señor tu Dios te ha ordenado, para que vivan bien, les vaya bien, y tus días puedan ser largos en la tierra de tu herencia.
