Deuteronomy 5
1 Then called Moses unto all Israel and said unto them—Hear, O Israel, the statutes and the regulations, which I am speaking in your ears to-day, —so shall ye learn them, and observe to do them.
Or, Moïse appela tout Israël et lui dit: Ecoute, Israël, les cérémonies et les ordonnances que moi, je vous fais entendre aujourd’hui; apprenez-les et les accomplissez par vos œuvres.
2 Yahweh our God, solemnised with us a covenant in Horeb:
Le Seigneur notre Dieu a fait avec nous une alliance à Horeb.
3 not with our fathers did Yahweh solemnise this covenant, —but with us, ourselves—these here to-day, all of us living.
Ce n’est pas avec nos pères qu’il a fait cette alliance, mais avec nous qui sommes maintenant et qui vivons.
4 Face to face, spake Yahweh with you in the mount out of the midst of the fire,
Il nous a parlé face à face sur la montagne du milieu du feu.
5 (I was standing between Yahweh and you, at that time, to declare unto you the word of Yahweh, —for ye shrank with fear from the presence of the fire, and went not up in the mount) saying: —
C’est moi qui fus l’interprète et le médiateur entre le Seigneur et vous en ce temps-là, pour vous annoncer ses paroles; car vous craignîtes le feu, et vous ne montâtes pas sur la montagne, et il dit:
6 I, am Yahweh thy God, who have brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt out of the house of servants: —
Je suis le Seigneur ton Dieu qui t’ai retiré de la terre d’Egypte, de la maison de servitude.
7 Thou shalt not have other gods, besides me:
Tu n’auras point de dieux étrangers en ma présence.
8 Thou shalt not make unto thee an image, any form that is in the heavens above, or that is in the earth beneath or that is in the waters beneath the earth:
Tu ne te feras point d’image taillée au ciseau, ni de représentation de tout ce qui est dans le ciel en haut, et de ce qui est sur la terre en bas, et de ce qui se trouve dans les eaux sous la terre.
9 thou shalt not bow thyself down to them nor be led to serve them, —for, I Yahweh thy God, am a jealous GOD, visiting the iniquity of fathers upon sons even unto three generations and unto four, unto them that hate me;
Tu ne les adoreras pas et tu ne les serviras pas. Car c’est moi qui suis le Seigneur ton Dieu, Dieu jaloux, rejetant l’iniquité des pères sur les enfants jusqu’à la troisième et la quatrième génération de ceux qui me haïssent,
10 but shewing lovingkindness unto a thousand generation—unto them who love me, and keep my commandments:
Et faisant miséricorde dans plusieurs milliers de générations, à ceux qui m’aiment et gardent mes préceptes.
11 Thou shalt not utter the name of Yahweh thy God, for falsehood, —for Yahweh will not let him go unpunished who uttereth his name for falsehood:
Tu ne prendras point le nom du Seigneur ton Dieu en vain: car il ne sera pas impuni, celui qui pour une chose vaine prendra son nom.
12 Observe the sabbath day, to hallow it, —as Yahweh thy God, hath commanded thee:
Observe le jour du sabbat, afin de le sanctifier, comme t’a ordonné le Seigneur ton Dieu.
13 six days, shalt thou labour, and do all thy work;
Pendant six jours tu travailleras, et tu feras tous tes ouvrages.
14 but, the seventh day, is a sabbath unto Yahweh thy God, —thou shalt do no work—thou nor thy son nor thy daughter nor thy servant nor thy handmaid nor thine ox nor thine ass nor any of thy cattle, nor thy sojourner who is within thy gates, that thy servant and thy handmaid may rest, as well as thou.
Mais le septième jour est celui du sabbat, c’est-à-dire le repos du Seigneur ton Dieu. Tu ne feras en ce jour aucun ouvrage, ni toi, ni ton fils, ni ta fille, ni ton serviteur, ni ta servante, ni ton bœuf, ni ton âne, ni aucune de tes bêtes, ni l’étranger qui est au-dedans de tes portes; afin que ton serviteur et ta servante se reposent comme toi aussi.
15 So shalt thou remember that a servant, wast thou in the land of Egypt, and that Yahweh thy God brought thee forth from thence, with a firm hand, and with a stretched-out arm, —for this cause, hath Yahweh thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day:
Souviens-toi que toi-même aussi tu as servi en Egypte, et que le Seigneur ton Dieu t’en a retiré par une main puissante et un bras étendu. C’est pourquoi il t’a ordonné d’observer le jour du sabbat.
16 Honour thy father and thy mother, as Yahweh thy God hath commanded thee, —that thy days may be prolonged and that it may go well with thee, upon the soil which Yahweh thy God is about to give unto thee:
Honore ton père et ta mère, comme t’a ordonné le Seigneur ton Dieu, afin que tu vives longtemps, et que bien t’arrive dans la terre que le Seigneur ton Dieu va te donner.
17 Thou shalt not commit murder:
Tu ne tueras point.
18 Neither shalt thou commit adultery:
Tu ne commettras point d’adultère.
19 Neither shalt thou steal:
Et tu ne feras point de vol.
20 Neither shalt thou testify against thy neighbour with a witness of falsehood:
Tu ne porteras point de faux témoignage contre ton prochain.
21 Neither shalt thou covet thy neighbour’s wife, —neither shalt thou desire thy neighbour’s house, his field, or his servant, or his handmaid, his ox or his ass, or anything that is thy neighbour’s.
Tu ne convoiteras point la femme de ton prochain, ni sa maison, ni son champ, ni son serviteur, ni sa servante, ni son bœuf, ni son âne, ni aucune des choses qui sont à lui.
22 These words, spake Yahweh unto all the convocation of you in the mount out of the midst of the fire the cloud and the thick gloom, a loud voice, and added not, —and he wrote them upon two tables of stone, and gave them unto me.
Ce sont là les paroles qu’a dites le Seigneur à toute votre multitude, sur la montagne, du milieu du feu, de la nuée et de l’obscurité, avec une voix forte, n’ajoutant rien de plus; et il les écrivit sur deux tables de pierre, qu’il me remit.
23 And it came to pass, when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, the mountain also burning with fire, then drew ye near unto me, even all the heads of your tribes and your elders,
Mais vous, après que vous eûtes entendu sa voix du milieu des ténèbres et que vous eûtes vu la montagne embrasée, vous vous approchâtes de moi, tous les princes des tribus, et les anciens, et vous dites:
24 and ye said—Lo! Yahweh our God hath let us see his glory and his greatness, his voice also, have we heard out of the midst of the fire, —this day, have we seen, that God may speak with man who yet may live.
Voilà que le Seigneur notre Dieu nous a montré sa majesté et sa grandeur; nous avons entendu sa voix du milieu du feu, et nous avons éprouvé aujourd’hui, que Dieu ayant parlé avec l’homme, l’homme conserve la vie.
25 Now, therefore why should we die? for this great fire, will consume, us, —if we ourselves, hear the voice of Yahweh our God any more, we shall die.
Pourquoi donc mourrons nous, et ce très grand feu nous dévorera-t-il? Car si nous entendons encore la voix du Seigneur notre Dieu, nous mourrons.
26 For who [is there] of all flesh, that ever heard the voice of a Living God speaking out of the midst of fire as we, and yet lived?
Qu’est toute chair, pour qu’elle entende la voix du Dieu vivant, qui parle du milieu du feu, comme nous avons entendu, et qu’elle puisse vivre?
27 Go, thou, near, and hear, all that Yahweh our God shall say, —so shalt thou speak unto us, all that Yahweh our God shall speak unto thee and we will hear and do.
Approche plutôt, toi, et écoute tout ce que te dira le Seigneur notre Dieu; tu nous le rapporteras ensuite, et, l’ayant entendu, nous le ferons.
28 And Yahweh heard the voice of your words, when ye spake unto me, —and Yahweh said unto me—I have heard the voice of the words of this people which they have spoken unto thee, they have well said all which they have spoken.
Ce qu’ayant entendu le Seigneur, il me dit: J’ai entendu la voix des paroles de ce peuple, lorsqu’ils t’ont parlé: ils ont bien dit toutes ces choses.
29 Oh that this their heart might remain in them to revere me, and to keep all my commandments all the days, —that it might be well with them and with their sons unto times age-abiding.
Qui leur donnera d’avoir un esprit tel, qu’ils me craignent, et qu’ils gardent tous mes commandements en tout temps, afin que bien leur arrive, à eux et à leurs enfants pour jamais.
30 Go, say unto them, —Return ye to your tents.
Va, et dis-leur: Retournez en vos tentes.
31 Thou, therefore here stand with me and let me speak unto thee—all the commandment and the statutes and the regulations which thou shalt teach them, —that they may do [them] in the land which I am giving unto them to possess it.
Mais toi, demeure ici avec moi, et je te dirai tous mes commandements, les cérémonies et les ordonnances, que tu leur enseigneras, afin qu’ils les pratiquent dans la terre que je leur donnerai en possession.
32 So then ye must observe to do, as Yahweh your God hath commanded you, —ye must not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.
Gardez donc et faites ce que vous a ordonné le Seigneur votre Dieu; vous ne vous détournerez ni à droite ni à gauche;
33 In all the way which Yahweh your God hath commanded you, must ye walk, —that ye may live and it be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land, which ye shall possess.
Mais c’est par la voie qu’a prescrite le Seigneur votre Dieu que vous marcherez, afin que vous viviez et que bien vous arrive, et que vos jours soient prolongés dans la terre de votre possession.
