Deuteronomy 3

1 Then turned we and went up, the way of Bashan; and Og king of Bashan, came out to meet us, he, and all his people, to give battle at Edrei.

Et nous nous sommes tournés, et nous sommes montés par le chemin de Basan; et Og, le roi de Basan, sortit à notre rencontre, lui et tout son peuple, à Édréhi, pour livrer bataille.

2 And Yahweh said unto me: Do not fear him, for into thy hand, have I delivered him and all his people and his land, —so then thou shalt do unto him, as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites who was dwelling in Heshbon.

Et l’Éternel me dit: Ne le crains pas, car je l’ai livré en ta main, lui et tout son peuple, et son pays; et tu lui feras comme tu as fait à Sihon, roi des Amoréens, qui habitait à Hesbon.

3 Then did Yahweh our God deliver into our hand, Og also, king of Bashan and all his people, —so we smote him until there was not left remaining to him a survivor.

– Et l’Éternel, notre Dieu, livra aussi en notre main Og, le roi de Basan, et tout son peuple; et nous l’avons battu jusqu’à ne pas lui laisser un réchappé.

4 And we captured all his cities, at that time, there was no fortress which we took not from them, —sixty cities all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan.

Et nous avons pris toutes ses villes, en ce temps-là; il n’y eut point de ville que nous ne leur ayons prise: 60 villes, toute la région d’Argob, le royaume d’Og, en Basan;

5 All these, were fortified cities each with a high wall, folding gates and a bar, —besides country towns exceeding many.

toutes ces villes-là étaient fortifiées avec de hautes murailles, des portes et des barres, outre les villes ouvertes, en fort grand nombre;

6 And we devoted them to destruction, doing unto them as we did unto Sihon king of Heshbon, —devoting to destruction every city of males, the women, and the little ones.

et nous les avons entièrement détruites, comme nous avions fait à Sihon, roi de Hesbon, détruisant toutes les villes, hommes, femmes, et enfants.

7 But all the cattle, and the spoil of the cities, made we our prey.

Et nous avons pillé pour nous toutes les bêtes, et le butin des villes.

8 Thus did we at that time take the land out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites (which was over the Jordan), —from the ravine of Arnon as far as Mount Hermon.

Et nous avons pris en ce temps-là, de la main des deux rois des Amoréens, le pays qui était en deçà du Jourdain, depuis le torrent de l’Arnon jusqu’à la montagne de l’Hermon;

9 Sidonians, call Hermon Sirion, —but, the Amorites, call it Senir.

(les Sidoniens appellent l’Hermon, Sirion, et les Amoréens l’appellent Senir);

10 All the cities of the table-land, and all Gilead, and all Bashan, —unto Salecah, and Edrei, —cities of the kingdom of Og, in Bashan.

toutes les villes du plateau, et tout Galaad, et tout Basan jusqu’à Salca et à Édréhi, villes du royaume d’Og, en Basan.

11 For, only Og, king of Bashan was left remaining of the remnant of the giants, lo! his bedstead, was a bedstead of iron, is not, the same, in Rabbath of the sons of Ammon? nine cubits, the length thereof and four cubits, the breadth thereof, by the fore-arm of a man.

Car Og, le roi de Basan, était seul demeuré du reste des Rephaïm. Voici, son lit, un lit de fer, n’est-il pas dans Rabba des fils d’Ammon? Sa longueur est de neuf coudées, et sa largeur de quatre coudées, en coudées d’homme.

12 And this land, took we in possession at that time, —from Aroer which is by the ravine of Arnon, and half the hill-country of Gilead and the cities thereof, gave I unto the Reubenites and unto the Gadites;

Et nous avons pris possession de ce pays-là, en ce même temps. Depuis Aroër, qui est sur le torrent de l’Arnon, la moitié de la montagne de Galaad, et ses villes, je les donnai aux Rubénites et aux Gadites;

13 but the remainder of Gilead, and all Bashan the kingdom of Og, gave I unto the half tribe of Manasseh, —all the region of the Argob with all Bashan. The same, is called, A land of giants.

et le reste de Galaad, et tout Basan, le royaume d’Og, je le donnai à la demi-tribu de Manassé. (Toute la région d’Argob, comme tout Basan, était appelée le pays des Rephaïm.

14 Jair, son of Manasseh, took all the region of Argob, as far as the boundary of the Geshurites, and the Maachathites, —and called them after his own name The Bashan of Havvoth-jair unto this day.

Jaïr, fils de Manassé, prit toute la région d’Argob, jusqu’à la frontière des Gueshuriens et des Maacathiens; et il appela de son nom Basan, Havoth-Jaïr, [ce qui est son nom] jusqu’à aujourd’hui.)

15 And, unto Machir, gave I Gilead;

Et je donnai Galaad à Makir.

16 And unto the Reubenites and unto the Gadites, gave I—from Gilead even as far as the ravine of Arnon, the middle of the ravine and boundary, —even as far as the Jabbok ravine, the boundary of the sons of Ammon;

Et aux Rubénites et aux Gadites je donnai depuis Galaad jusqu’au torrent de l’Arnon, le milieu du torrent et ce qui y confine, et jusqu’au torrent du Jabbok, frontière des fils d’Ammon;

17 the Waste Plain also and the Jordan and boundary, —from Chinnereth, even as far as the sea of the Waste Plain the Salt Sea, under the slopes of Pisgah, on the east.

et la plaine, et le Jourdain et [sa] rive depuis Kinnéreth jusqu’à la mer de la plaine, la mer Salée, sous les pentes du Pisga, vers le levant.

18 So I commanded you, at that time saying, —Yahweh your God hath given unto you this land to possess it, armed, shall ye pass over before your brethren the sons of Israel all the sons of valour,

Et, en ce temps-là, je vous commandai, disant: L’Éternel, votre Dieu, vous a donné ce pays pour le posséder; vous passerez équipés devant vos frères, les fils d’Israël, vous tous, les hommes valides.

19 Only, your wives and your little ones and your cattle—I know that ye have much cattle—shall abide in your cities which I have given unto you;

Seulement, vos femmes, et vos enfants, et vos troupeaux – je sais que vos troupeaux sont nombreux – demeureront dans vos villes que je vous ai données,

20 until that Yahweh shall give rest unto your brethren, as well as you, so shall, they too, possess the land which, Yahweh your God, is giving unto them, over the Jordan, —then shall ye return every man unto his possession, which I have given unto you.

jusqu’à ce que l’Éternel ait donné du repos à vos frères comme à vous, et qu’eux aussi possèdent le pays que l’Éternel, votre Dieu, leur donne au-delà du Jourdain; alors vous retournerez chacun dans sa possession, que je vous ai donnée.

21 Joshua also, commanded I, at that time saying, —Thine are the eyes, that have seen all that Yahweh your God hath done unto these two kings, thus, will Yahweh do unto all the kingdoms whereunto thou, art passing over:

Et je commandai à Josué en ce temps-là, disant: Tes yeux ont vu tout ce que l’Éternel, votre Dieu, a fait à ces deux rois; l’Éternel fera ainsi à tous les royaumes où tu vas passer.

22 ye shall not fear them, —for, Yahweh your God, he, it is that is fighting for you.

Ne les craignez pas; car l’Éternel, votre Dieu, est celui qui combat pour vous.

23 Then sought I Yahweh at that time, for a favour saying:

Et en ce temps-là, je suppliai l’Éternel, disant:

24 My Lord Yahweh, thou thyself, hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy firm hand, —as to which, what GOD is there, in the heavens or in the earth, that can do according to thy doings, and according to thy mighty deeds?

Seigneur Éternel! tu as commencé à faire voir à ton serviteur ta grandeur et ta main forte, car quel est le Dieu, dans les cieux et sur la terre, qui fasse [des œuvres] comme tes œuvres et selon ta force?

25 Let me pass over, I pray thee that I may see the good land that is over the Jordan, —this good mountain, and the Lebanon.

Que je passe, je te prie, et que je voie ce bon pays qui est au-delà du Jourdain, cette bonne montagne, et le Liban.

26 But Yahweh had been provoked with me for your sakes, and hearkened not unto me, —and Yahweh said unto me, Enough for thee! do not add a word unto me further in this matter.

– Et l’Éternel fut irrité contre moi à cause de vous, et il ne m’écouta point; et l’Éternel me dit: C’est assez, ne me parle plus de cette affaire.

27 Ascend the top of the Pisgah, and lift up thine eyes—westward, and northward and southward and eastward—and see with thine own eyes, —for thou shalt not pass over this Jordan.

Monte au sommet du Pisga, et élève tes yeux vers l’occident, et vers le nord, et vers le midi, et vers le levant, et regarde de tes yeux; car tu ne passeras pas ce Jourdain.

28 But command thou Joshua and confirm him and embolden him, —for, he, shall pass over before this people, and, he shall cause them to inherit the land which thou shalt see.

Mais commande à Josué, et fortifie-le et affermis-le; car lui, passera devant ce peuple, et lui, les mettra en possession du pays que tu verras.

29 So we abode in the valley, over against Beth-peor.

Et nous avons habité dans la vallée, vis-à-vis de Beth-Péor.
