Deuteronomy 20
1 When thou shalt go out to wage war against thine enemy, and shalt see the horses and chariots of a people more in number than thou, thou shalt not be afraid of them, —for, Yahweh thy God, is with thee, who brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
Sa dihang magmartsa kamo paingon sa gubat batok sa inyong mga kaaway, ug makakita kamog mga kabayo, mga karwahe, ug mga tawo nga mas daghan pa kay kaninyo, ayaw kamo kahadlok kanila; kay si Yahweh nga inyong Dios magauban kaninyo, siya nga nagdala kaninyo pagawas gikan sa yuta sa Ehipto.
2 And it shall be, when ye are coming nigh unto the battle, that the priest shall approach and speak unto the people;
Sa dihang paingon na kamo mosulod sa gubat, ang pari moduol ug makig-istorya sa mga tawo.
3 and shall say unto them, —Hear, O Israel, ye are coming near to-day, unto battle against your enemies, —let not your heart faint do not fear nor start nor quake because of them.
Moingon siya kanila, 'Paminaw, Israel, moadto kamo sa gubat batok sa inyong mga kaaway. Ayaw tugoti nga maluya ang inyong mga kasingkasing. Ayaw kamo kalisang o pangurog. Ayaw kamo kahadlok kanila.
4 For Yahweh your God, is he that is going with you, —to fight for you against your enemies to save you.
Kay si Yahweh nga inyong Dios mao ang makig-uban kaninyo aron makig-away alang kaninyo batok sa inyong mga kaaway ug aron pagluwas kaninyo.'
5 Then shall the officers speak unto the people saying, Who is the man that hath built a new house and hath not dedicated it? let him go and return unto his house, —lest he die in the battle, and, another man dedicate it.
Ang mga opisyales makig-istorya sa mga tawo ug moingon, 'Kinsa ba nga tawo ang nagbuhat ug bag-ong balay ug wala nagpahinungod niini? Palakwa siya ug papaulia sa iyang balay, aron dili siya mamatay sa pakiggubat ug laing tawo ang mopahinungod niini.
6 And who is the man that hath planted a vineyard and hath not thrown it open? let him go and return unto his house, —lest he die in the battle, and another man, throw it open.
Aduna bay tawo nga nagtanom ug kaparasan ug wala nakapahimulos sa prutas niini? Papaulia siya sa balay, aron dili siya mamatay sa pakiggubat ug laing tawo ang makapahimulos sa prutas niini.
7 And who is the man that hath betrothed a wife and hath not taken her? let him go and return unto his house, —lest he die in the battle, and, another man, take her.
Kinsa ba nga tawo nga minyoonon sa usa ka babaye apan wala pa nakigminyo kaniya? Papaulia siya sa balay aron dili siya mamatay sa pakiggubat ug laing tawo ang makaminyo kaniya.'
8 Then shall the officers further speak unto the people, and say—Who is the man that is fearful and faint-hearted? let him go and return unto his house, —lest his brethren’s heart melt as well as his heart.
Ang mga opisyales makig-istorya ug dugang sa mga tawo ug moingon, 'Kinsa ba nga tawo ang mahadlokon o luyag kasingkasing? Palakwa siya ug papaulia sa iyang balay, aron ang kasingkasing sa iyang igsoon nga lalaki dili matunaw sama sa iyang kasingkasing.'
9 And it shall be, when the officers have made an end of speaking unto the people, then shall they appoint captains of hosts at the head of the people.
Sa dihang mahuman na ug pakig-istorya ang mga opisyales sa mga tawo, magpili ug mga magdumala kanila.
10 When thou shalt come nigh unto a city, to fight against it, —then shalt thou proclaim unto it—peace,
Sa dihang magmartsa kamo aron pagsulong sa usa ka siyudad, pagdalit kamo ug kalinaw sa katawhan.
11 and it shall be if peace, be the answer it giveth thee, and it open unto thee, then shall it be, that, all the people that are found therein, shall become thy tributaries and shall serve thee.
Kung ilang dawaton ang inyong gitanyag, ug ilang pagaablihan ang mga ganghaan alang kaninyo, ang tanang tawo nga makaplagan didto kinahanglan pugson sa pagtrabaho alang kaninyo ug mag-alagad kaninyo.
12 But if it will not make peace with thee, but will make war with thee, then shalt thou lay siege to it;
Apan kung kini dili magdalit ug kalinaw kaninyo, apan makiggubat batok kaninyo, unya palibotan ninyo kini,
13 and Yahweh thy God will deliver it into thy hand, —and thou shalt smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword;
ug sa dihang si Yahweh nga inyong Dios magahatag kaninyog kadaogan ug magabutang kanila ilalom sa inyong katungod, kinahanglan nga patyon ninyo ang matag lalaki diha sa lungsod.
14 but the women and the little ones and the cattle and all that shall be in the city—all the spoil thereof, shalt thou take as thy prey, —so shalt thou eat the spoil of thine enemies, whom Yahweh thy God hath delivered unto thee.
Apan ang mga babaye, mga gagmayng bata, mga baka, ug tanan nga anaa niadto nga siyudad, ug tanan niining inilog, inyong kuhaon ingon nga dinaog alang sa inyong kaugalingon. Inyong pagagamiton ang dinaog sa inyong mga kaaway, nga gihatag ni Yahweh nga inyong Dios kaninyo.
15 Thus, shalt thou do unto all the cities that are very far away from thee, —which are not of the cities of those nations.
Pagbuhat kamo niini nga paagi ngadto sa tanang mga siyudad nga hilabihan kalayo kaninyo, nga dili mga siyudad niining mosunod nga mga nasod.
16 But of the cities of these peoples which Yahweh thy God is giving unto thee as an inheritance, shalt thou not save alive, any breathing thing.
Sa mga siyudad niining mga katawhan nga gihatag ni Yahweh nga inyong Dios ingon nga panulondon, wala kamoy ibilin nga nagginhawa pa.
17 But thou shalt devote them to destruction—the Hittites and the Amorites the Canaanites and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, —as Yahweh thy God hath commanded thee:
Hinuon, laglagon ninyo sila sa hingpit: ang mga Hitihanon, mga Amorihanon, mga Canaanhon, mga Perizihanon, mga Hibihanon, ug mga Jebusihanon, sama sa gisugo kamo ni Yahweh nga inyong Dios.
18 lest they teach you to do, according to all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods, —and so ye sin against Yahweh your God.
Buhata kini aron dili kamo nila tudloan sa pagbuhat sa mga gikasilagan nga mga butang, nga ilang ginabuhat sa ilang mga dios. Kung magbuhat kamo niana, makasala kamo batok kang Yahweh nga inyong Dios.
19 When thou shalt besiege a city for many days to fight against it, to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by wielding against them an axe, when of them, thou mightest eat, them, there-fore shalt thou not cut down, —for, Is the tree of the field, a man, that it should enter, because of thee into the siege?
Sa dihang palibotan ninyo ang siyudad sa hataas nga panahon, ingon nga nakigbatok kamo niini aron makuha kini, dili ninyo pagaputlon ang mga kahoy pinaagi sa pag-atsa niini. Kay makakaon kamo gikan niini, mao nga dili ninyo kini angay putlon. Kay tawo ba ang kahoy sa tanaman nga inyong palibotan?
20 Nevertheless, the tree of which thou knowest that it is, not a tree yielding food, the same, mayest thou destroy, and cut down, —and so build up a siege-work against the city which is making war with thee, until thou hast subdued it.
Ang mga kahoy lamang nga inyong nahibaloan nga dili alang sa pagkaon, mahimo ninyong tumbahon ug putlon; magatukod kamo ug kahimanan batok sa siyudad nga makiggubat kaninyo, hangtod mapukan kini.
