Deuteronomy 2
1 Then turned we, and set forward towards the desert by way of the Red Sea, as Yahweh, spake unto me; and we encompassed Mount Seir many days.
१मोशे आणखीन पुढे म्हणाला; “परमेश्वराने मला सांगितल्याप्रमाणे आपण मागे फिरुन तांबड्या समुद्राच्या वाटेने रानात निघालो बरेच दिवस सेईर डोंगराभोवती फिरत राहिलो.
2 And Yahweh spake unto me, saying:
२परमेश्वर तेव्हा मला म्हणाला,
3 Long enough, have ye encompassed this mountain, —turn yourselves north, wards.
३‘या डोंगराभोवती तुम्ही फार दिवस फिरत राहिला आहात. आता उत्तरेकडे वळा.
4 And, the people, command thou saying, Ye are about to pass through the boundary of your brethren the sons of Esau, who are dwelling in Seir, —and should they be afraid of you, take ye good heed to yourselves:
४आणि लोकांस आणखी एक सांग, तुम्हास वाटेत सेईर लागेल. ती भूमी एसावाच्या वंशाजांची, तुमच्या भाऊबंदांची आहे त्यांना तुमची भीती वाटेल तेव्हा सांभाळा.
5 do not engage in strife with them, for I will not give you of their land, so much as place for the tread of a foot-sole, —for as a possession to Esau, have I given Mount Seir.
५त्यांच्याशी भांडू नका. त्यांच्यातली तसूभरही जमीन मी तुम्हास देणार नाही. कारण सेईर डोंगर मी एसावाला वतन म्हणून दिला आहे.
6 Food, shall ye buy of them with silver so shall ye eat, —yea even water, shall ye buy of them with silver so shall ye drink.
६तुमचे अन्न पैसे देवून, विकत घेवून खा. पाणीही विकत घेवून प्या.
7 For Yahweh thy God, hath blessed thee in all the work of thy hand, he hath considered thy traversing of this great desert, —these forty years, hath Yahweh thy God been with thee, thou hast lacked, nothing.
७तुमच्या हातच्या सर्व कार्यात तुमचा देव परमेश्वर याने तुम्हास आशीर्वादीत केले आहे. तुमच्या या रानातील वाटचालीकडे त्याचे लक्ष आहे. गेली चाळीस वर्षे तुमचा देव परमेश्वर तुमच्या सोबत राहीला आहे. तुम्हास कशाचीही वाण पडली नाही.’
8 So we passed on, a way from our brethren the sons of Esau who dwell in Seir, from the way of the waste plain, from Elath, and from Ezion-geber, —and we turned and passed on by way of the desert of Moab.
८तेव्हा एसावचे वंशज राहत असलेल्या सेईर वरुन आपण गेलो. एलाथ आणि एसयोन-गेबेर वरून येणारा अराबाचा मार्ग आपण सोडला आणि मवाबाच्या रानातल्या रस्त्याला आपण वळालो.
9 And Yahweh said unto me—Do not lay siege to Moab, nor engage in strife with them in battle, —for I will not give unto thee of this land as a possession, for unto the sons of Lot, have I given Ar, as a possession.
९परमेश्वर मला म्हणाला, ‘मवाबाला उपद्रव करू नका. त्यांच्याशी युद्धाचा प्रंसग आणू नका. त्यांच्यातली जमीन मी तुम्हास देणार नाही. कारण आर नगर मी लोटच्या वंशजांना इनाम दिले आहे.’”
10 the Emim, formerly dwelt therein, —a people great and many and tall, like the Anakim.
१०पूर्वी तेथे एमी लोक राहत असत. ते बहुसंख्य, धिप्पाड व अनाकी लोकांप्रमाणे महाकाय होते.
11 Giants, used, they also, to be accounted like the Anakim, —but the Moabites, called them Emim.
११या एमींना लोक अनाकी यांच्याप्रमाणेच रेफाई समजत असत. पण मवाबी लोक त्यांना एमी म्हणतात.
12 And in Seir, dwelt the Horim aforetime, but, the sons of Esau, dispossessed them, and destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their stead, —as did Israel unto the land of his own possession, which Yahweh had given unto them.
१२पूर्वी सेईरात होरी लोकही राहत असत. पण एसावाच्या वंशजांनी त्यांची जमीन बळकावली, होरींचा संहार केला व तेथे स्वत: वस्ती केली. परमेश्वराने त्यांना दिलेल्या देशाचे इस्राएलींनी जसे केले तसेच त्यांनी इथे केले.
13 Now, arise, and pass ye over the ravine of Zered. So we passed over the ravine of Zered.
१३“मग परमेश्वराने मला जेरेद ओढ्यापलीकडे जायला सांगितले.” त्याप्रमाणे आपण जेरेद ओढ्यापलीकडे गेलो.
14 Now, the days in which we journeyed from Kadesh-barnea, as far as where we crossed the ravine of Zered, were thirty-eight years, —until all the generation of the men of war were consumed out of the midst of the camp, as Yahweh had sworn unto them.
१४कादेश बर्ण्या सोडून जेरेद ओढ्यापलीकडे पोहोचेपर्यंत अडतीस वर्षे उलटली होती. तोपर्यंत आपल्या पिढीतील सर्व लढवय्ये मरण पावले होते. परमेश्वराने शपथ वाहिल्या प्रमाणे हे झाले.
15 Yea, even the hand of Yahweh was against them, to destroy them out of the midst of the camp, —until they were consumed.
१५त्यांचा समूळ नाश होईपर्यंत छावणीतून त्यांचा संहार करावा म्हणून परमेश्वराचा त्यांच्यावर हात उगारलेला होता
16 So it came to pass when all the men of war were consumed by dying, out of the midst of the people,
१६ह्याप्रकारे सर्व योद्धे मरण पावले, ती पिढी नामशेष झाली,
17 then spake Yahweh unto me, saying:
१७परमेश्वर मला म्हणाला,
18 Thou, art passing, to-day, the boundary of Moab even Ar;
१८“तुला आज मवाबाची सीमा ओलांडून आर नगरापलीकडे जायचे आहे.
19 so wilt thou draw near over against the sons of Ammon, do not thou besiege them neither engage in strife with them, —for I will not give of the land of the sons of Ammon unto thee as a possession, for unto the sons of Lot, have I given it as a possession.
१९तेथे अम्मोनी लोक भेटतील. त्यांना उपद्रव देऊ नको. त्यांच्याशी युध्द करू नको. त्यांच्या जमिनीतील वाटा मी तुला देणार नाही. कारण ते लोटाचे वंशज असून त्यांना मी ती वतन दिली आहे.”
20 A land of giants, used, that also, to be accounted, —giants, dwelt therein aforetime, but the Ammonites, called them Zamzummim:
२०त्या भागाला “रेफाई देश” असेही म्हणतात. पूर्वी तेथे रेफाई लोकांची वस्ती होती. अम्मोनी त्यांना “जमजुम्मी” म्हणत.
21 a people great and many and tall, like the Anakim, —but Yahweh destroyed them from before them, and they took their possessions, and dwelt in their stead:
२१जमजुम्मी संख्येने पुष्कळ व सशक्त होते. अनाकी लोकांप्रमाणे ते धिप्पाड होते. पण त्यांचा संहार करायला अम्मोनी लोकांस परमेश्वराचे साहाय्य होते. आता त्या जमिनीचा ताबा घेऊन अम्मोनी तेथे राहतात.
22 as he did for the sons of Esau, who are dwelling in Seir, —when he destroyed the Horim from before them, and they took their possessions and have dwelt in their stead, even unto this day.
२२एसावाच्या वंशजांनाही देवाचे असेच पाठबळ होते. पूर्वी सेईर येथे होरी लोक राहत असत. त्यांनी त्यांना हुसकावून लावले. पण एसावाच्या वंशजांनी होरींचा संहार केला व आजपर्यंत ते तेथे राहतात.
23 The Avvim also, who dwelt in settlements as far as Gaza, Caphtorim, who were coming forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and dwelt in their stead.
२३त्याचप्रमाणे अव्वी लोक गज्जापर्यंतच्या खेड्यात वस्ती करून होते, त्यांचा कफतोराहून आलेल्या कफतोरी लोकांनी उच्छेद करून त्यांची भूमी बळकावली आणि आता ते तेथे राहत आहेत.
24 Arise ye, set forward and cross over the ravine of Arnon, see! I have given into thy hand—Sihon king of Heshbon, the Amorite and his land, begin—take possession, —and engage in strife with him in battle.
२४पुढे परमेश्वर मला म्हणाला, “आता उठा व आर्णोनाचे खोरे ओलांडून जा. हेशबोनाचा अमोरी राजा सीहोन व त्याचा देश मी तुझ्या हाती दिला आहे, तो देश आपल्या ताब्यात घे आणि त्यास लढाईला प्रवृत्त कर.
25 This day, will I begin to extend the dread of thee and the fear of thee over the face of the peoples under all the heavens, —who will hear the report of thee, then will they quake and writhe in pain because of thee.
२५तुमच्याविषयी या सर्व आकाशाखालच्या लोकांच्या मनात आज अशी भीती व दहशत निर्माण करीन की, तुमचे वर्तमान ऐकताच ते थरथर कापतील व भयभीत होतील.”
26 So I sent messengers out of the desert of Kademoth, unto Sihon, king of Heshbon, —with words of peace saying:
२६मग मी कदेमोथच्या रानातून हेशबोनचा राजा सीहोन याच्याकडे दूताकरवी सलोख्याचा निरोप पाठवला की,
27 I would pass along through thy land, by the road, by the road, will I go, —I will not turn aside, to the right hand or to the left:
२७“तुमच्या देशातून आम्हास जाऊ दे. आमची वाट सोडून आम्ही उजवीडावीकडे वळणार नाही.
28 Food for silver, shalt thou sell me so will I eat, and water for silver, shalt thou let me have, so will I drink, —only I would pass through on my feet; —
२८तू पैसे घेऊन मला खाण्यासाठी अन्न विकत दे आणि पाणीही पैसे घेऊन विकत प्यायवयास दे, आम्हास फक्त इथून पलीकडे पायी जाऊ दे.
29 as the sons of Esau, who are dwelling in Seir, did to me, and the Moabites who are dwelling in Ar, —until that I pass over the Jordan, into the land which, Yahweh our God, is giving unto us.
२९यार्देनपलीकडे आमचा देव परमेश्वर आम्हास देणार असलेल्या जमिनीपर्यंत आम्हास जायचे आहे. सेईरच्या एसाव लोकांनी आणि आर येथील मवाबी लोकांनी आम्हास जाऊ दिले तसेच तूही कर.”
30 But Sihon king of Heshbon, was not willing, to let us pass along through it, —for Yahweh thy God had suffered him to make his spirit harsh and his heart bold, that he might give him into thy hand—(as [appeareth] this day).
३०पण हेशबोनचा राजा सीहोन आपल्या देशातून जाऊ देईना. आपण त्यास पराभूत करावे म्हणूनच तुमचा देव परमेश्वर ह्याने त्यास कठोर केले. त्याचे मन कठीण केले. आज तुम्ही पाहातच आहात की तो देश आपल्या हाती आहे.
31 Then said Yahweh unto me, See! I have begun to deliver up before thee Sihon and his land, —begin take possession, that thou mayest make a possession of his land.
३१परमेश्वर मला म्हणाला, “सीहोन राजा आणि त्याचा देश हे मी तुमच्या हवाली करत आहे. त्याचा देश तुझे वतन व्हावे म्हणून त्यांचा ताबा घे.”
32 So then Sihon came out to meet us he, and all his people, to give battle at Jahaz.
३२आणि तेव्हा सीहोन व त्याची प्रजा याहस येथे आमच्याबरोबर लढाईसाठी सज्ज झाले.
33 And Yahweh our God delivered him up before us, —and we smote him and his sons, and all his people
३३परमेश्वर देवाने त्यास आपल्या ताब्यात दिले म्हणून आम्ही त्याचा, त्याच्या मुलांचा व सर्व लोकांचा पराभव करू शकलो.
34 And we captured all his cities, at that time, and devoted to destruction every city of males, with the women and the little ones, —we left not remaining a survivor:
३४त्यांच्या सर्व नगरांचा आम्ही ताबा घेतला व पुरुष, स्त्रिया, मुलेबाळे ह्याच्यासह सर्वांचा समूळ नाश केला, कोणालाही जिवंत ठेवले नाही.
35 only the cattle, made we our prey, —and the spoil of the cities which we captured.
३५तेथील पशू आणि जिंकलेल्या नगरातील लुट मात्र आम्ही आमच्यासाठी घेतली.
36 From Aroer, which is on the edge of the ravine of Arnon and the city that is in the ravine even as far as Gilead, there was not a fortress that proved too high for us, —the whole, did Yahweh our God deliver up before us.
३६आर्णोन खोऱ्याच्या कडेला वसलेले अरोएर नगर, खोऱ्याच्या मध्यावरील एक नगर तसेच आर्णोन खोरे ते गिलादापर्यंत सर्व नगरे, आमचा देव परमेश्वर याने आम्हास दिली. आम्हास दुर्गम असे एकही नगर नव्हते.
37 Only unto the land of the sons of Ammon, didst thou not come near, —all the side of the Jabbok ravine, nor the cities of the hill country, nor any which Yahweh our God had forbidden to us.
३७अम्मोन्याचा प्रदेश वगळता फक्त यब्बोक नदीच्या किनाऱ्यावर तसेच डोंगराळ प्रदेशातील नगरांकडे आम्ही गेलो नाही. कारण आमचा देव परमेश्वर याने तेथे जाण्यास बंदी केली होती.
