Deuteronomy 19
1 When Yahweh thy God, shall cut off the nations whose land Yahweh thy God is giving thee, —and thou shalt dispossess them, and dwell in their cities and in their houses,
După ce DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău va stârpi naţiunile, a căror ţară ţi-o dă DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău, şi le vei alunga şi vei locui în cetăţile lor şi în casele lor,
2 three cities, shalt thou set apart for thee, —in the midst of thy land which Yahweh thy God is giving thee to possess.
Să îţi separi trei cetăţi în mijlocul ţării tale, pe care ţi-o dă DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău, ca să o stăpâneşti.
3 Thou shalt prepare for thee a way, and shalt divide into three parts the boundary of thy land which Yahweh thy God shall cause thee to inherit, —and it shall be that every manslayer shall flee thither.
Să îţi pregăteşti o cale şi să împarţi în trei părţi hotarele ţării tale, pe care ţi-o dă DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău ca să o moşteneşti, ca orice ucigaş să fugă acolo.
4 And, this, is the case of the manslayer, who shall flee thither and live, —Whoso shall smite his neighbour unwittingly, he, not having hated him aforetime;
Şi acesta este cazul ucigaşului, care va fugi acolo, ca să trăiască. Cine ucide fără intenţie pe aproapele său, pe care nu l-a urât în trecut;
5 as when one entereth with his neighbour into a forest, to fell trees, and his hand fetcheth a stroke with the axe, to cut down the tree, and the head flieth off from the handle, and lighteth upon his neighbour, that he die, he, shall flee into one of these cities, and live;
Ca atunci când un om merge cu vecinul său în pădure să taie lemne şi mâna sa dă o lovitură cu securea să taie lemnul şi fierul iese din coadă şi cade pe vecinul său încât el moare; el să fugă într-una din acele cetăţi şi să trăiască;
6 lest the blood redeemer pursue the manslayer because his heart is hot, and overtake him because the way is long, and he smite him so as to take away his life, —he not being worthy of death, seeing that he had not been hating him aforetime.
Ca nu cumva răzbunătorul sângelui să urmărească pe ucigaş, pe când inima lui este aprinsă şi să îl ajungă, deoarece calea este lungă şi să îl ucidă; deşi nu era demn de moarte, pentru că nu l-a urât în trecut.
7 For this cause, am I commanding thee saying, —Three cities, shalt thou set apart for thee.
De aceea îţi poruncesc, spunând: Să îţi separi trei cetăţi.
8 But, if Yahweh thy God should enlarge thy bounds, as he sware unto thy fathers, —and should give thee all the land, which he spake of giving unto thy fathers;
Şi dacă DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău îţi lărgeşte hotarul, precum a jurat părinţilor tăi şi îţi dă toată ţara, pe care a promis că o va da părinţilor tăi,
9 because thou dost observe all this commandment to do it which I am commanding thee to-day, to love Yahweh thy God and to walk in his paths all the days, then shalt thou add unto thee yet three cities, unto these three;
Dacă vei păzi ca să faci toate aceste porunci, pe care ţi le poruncesc astăzi, să iubeşti pe DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău şi să umbli pe căile lui în toate zilele, atunci să îţi mai adaugi încă trei cetăţi, pe lângă acestea trei,
10 that innocent blood may not be shed in the midst of thy land, which Yahweh thy God is giving unto thee as an inheritance, —and so shed-blood be upon thee.
Ca să nu fie vărsat sânge nevinovat în ţara ta, pe care ţi-o dă DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău de moştenire, şi astfel sânge să fie peste tine.
11 But, when any man shall be hating his neighbour, and shall lie in wait for him and rise up against him, and smite him so as to take away his life that he dieth, —and shall then flee into one of these cities,
Dar dacă vreun om urăşte pe aproapele său şi îl pândeşte şi se ridică împotriva lui şi îl loveşte de moarte încât el moare, şi fuge într-una din aceste cetăţi,
12 then shall the elders of his city send and fetch him from thence, —and deliver him into the hand of the blood redeemer that he die;
Atunci bătrânii cetăţii sale să trimită şi să îl aducă de acolo şi să îl predea în mâna răzbunătorului sângelui, ca să moară.
13 thine eye shall not look with pity upon him, —so shall thou consume the shedding of innocent blood out of Israel and it shall go well with thee.
Ochiul tău să nu aibă milă de el, iar tu să îndepărtezi sângele nevinovat din Israel, ca să îţi fie bine.
14 Thou shalt not move back the boundary of thy neighbour, by which they set bounds at first, —in thine inheritance which thou shall receive in the land which Yahweh thy God is giving thee to possess.
Să nu muţi pietrele de hotar ale aproapelui tău, pe care le-au pus cei din vechime în moştenirea ta, pe care o vei moşteni în ţara, pe care ţi-o dă DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău, ca să o stăpâneşti.
15 One witness, shall not rise up, against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, with regard to any sin that he may commit, —at the mouth of two witnesses or at the mouth of three witnesses, must a matter be establish.
Un singur martor să nu se ridice împotriva unui om pentru vreo nelegiuire, sau pentru vreun păcat, în orice păcat prin care păcătuieşte; prin gura a doi martori sau prin gura a trei martori, să fie întemeiat un lucru.
16 When there shall rise up a wrongful witness against a man, —to answer against him perversely,
Dacă se ridică un martor fals împotriva cuiva să mărturisească împotriva lui vreun lucru nedrept,
17 then shall the two men who are at variance stand before Yahweh, —before the priests and the judges who shall be in those days;
Atunci cei doi bărbaţi, între care este cearta, să stea în picioare înaintea DOMNULUI, înaintea preoţilor şi a judecătorilor care vor fi în acele zile.
18 and the judges shall make diligent inquisition, —and lo! if the witness be, a false witness and, falsely, have answered against his brother,
Şi judecătorii să cerceteze cu de-amănuntul; şi, iată, dacă martorul este martor fals şi a mărturisit fals împotriva fratelui său,
19 then shall ye do unto him as he had thought to de unto his brother, —so shalt thou consume the wicked thing out of thy midst;
Atunci să îi faceţi precum s-a gândit el să facă fratelui său, astfel să îndepărtezi răul din mijlocul tău.
20 and, they who remain shall hear and fear, —and not go on to do again according to this wicked thing, in thy midst:
Şi cei care rămân, să audă şi să se teamă şi să nu mai facă un asemenea rău printre voi.
21 neither shall thine eye pity, —life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
Şi ochiul tău să nu aibă milă, ci viaţă pentru viaţă, ochi pentru ochi, dinte pentru dinte, mână pentru mână, picior pentru picior.
