Amos 6
1 Alas for the careless in Zion, and for them who put confidence in the mountain of Samaria, —the distinguished among the first group of nations, to whom came in the house of Israel.
Guai a quelli che vivon tranquilli in Sion, e fiduciosi sul monte di Samaria! Ai notabili della prima fra le nazioni, dietro ai quali va la casa d’Israele!
2 Pass ye over to Calneh, and see, and go on from thence to Hamath the great, —and go down to Gath of the Philistines, are they better than these kingdoms? or their boundary larger than your boundary?
Passate a Calne e guadate, e di là andate fino a Hamath la grande, poi scendete a Gath dei Filistei: Quelle città stanno esse meglio di questi regni? O il loro territorio è esso più vasto del vostro?
3 Ye who are putting far away the day of calamity, —but bringing near the abode of violence:
Voi volete allontanare il giorno malvagio e fate avvicinare il regno della violenza.
4 Who are lying on beds of ivory, and sprawling on their couch of pleasure, —and eating the well-fed of the flock, and the fatted calves out of the midst of the stalls:
Giacciono sul letti d’avorio, si sdraiano sui loro divani, mangiano gli agnelli del gregge e i vitelli tratti dalla stalla.
5 Who are bawling at the bidding of the harp, —like David, have they invented for themselves instruments of song:
Vaneggiano al suon del saltèro, s’inventano strumenti musicali come Davide;
6 Who are quaffing bowls of wine, and, with the best of oils, anointing themselves, —and are not afflicted for the injury of Joseph: —
bevono il vino in larghe coppe e s’ungono con gli oli più squisiti, ma non s’addolorano per la ruina di Giuseppe.
7 Therefore, at once, shall they go into exile among the first of the exiles, —so shall be disturbed the revelry of sprawlers.
Perciò se n’andranno in cattività alla testa dei deportati; e cesseranno i clamori di questi banchettanti.
8 Sworn hath the Lord, Yahweh, by his own life, Declareth Yahweh, God of hosts, abhorring am I, the grandeur of Jacob, and, his palaces, I hate, —therefore will I cast off the city and the fulness thereof.
Il Signore, l’Eterno l’ha giurato per sé stesso, dice l’Eterno, l’Iddio degli eserciti: Io detesto la magnificenza di Giacobbe, odio i suoi palazzi, e darò in man del nemico la città con tutto quel che contiene.
9 And it shall come to pass, though there be left remaining ten men in one house, yet shall they die;
E avverrà che, se restan dieci uomini in una casa, morranno.
10 And a man’s near of kin, even he who is about to burn the bones, shall carry him out of the house, when he shall say to him that is in the hinder parts of the house—Are there yet any with thee? and he shall say—No one. Then shall he say—Hush! for we must not invoke the name of Yahweh.
Un parente verrà con colui che brucia i corpi a prendere il morto, e portarne via di casa le ossa; e dirà a colui che è in fondo alla casa: “Ce n’è altri con te?” L’altro risponderà: “No”. E il primo dirà: “Zitto! Non è il momento di menzionare il nome dell’Eterno”.
11 For lo! Yahweh, is giving command, and will smite the great house into ruins, —and the little house with clefts.
Poiché, ecco, l’Eterno comanda, e fa cadere a pezzi la casa grande e riduce la piccola in frantumi.
12 Shall horses run upon crag? or will a man plough [there] with oxen? For ye have turned to poison the sentence of justice, and the fruit of righteousness, to wormwood:
I cavalli corrono essi sulle rocce, vi si ara egli coi bovi, che voi mutiate il diritto in veleno, e il frutto della giustizia in assenzio?
13 Who rejoice in a thing of nought, —who say, Have we not by our own strength, taken to ourselves horns?
Voi, che vi rallegrate di cose da nulla; voi, che dite: “Non è egli con la nostra forza che abbiamo acquistato potenza?”
14 For behold me! raising up against you, O house of Israel, Declareth Yahweh, the God of hosts—a nation! And they shall crush you, from the entering in of Hamath, unto the torrent-bed of the waste plain.
Poiché, ecco, o casa d’Israele, dice l’Eterno, l’Iddio degli eserciti, io faccio sorgere contro di voi, una nazione che vi opprimerà dall’ingresso di Hamath fino al torrente del deserto.
