Amos 6
1 Alas for the careless in Zion, and for them who put confidence in the mountain of Samaria, —the distinguished among the first group of nations, to whom came in the house of Israel.
Malheur à ceux qui vivent tranquilles dans Sion, et à ceux qui sont en sécurité sur la montagne de Samarie! Aux principaux de la première des nations, et vers lesquels va la maison d'Israël!
2 Pass ye over to Calneh, and see, and go on from thence to Hamath the great, —and go down to Gath of the Philistines, are they better than these kingdoms? or their boundary larger than your boundary?
Passez à Calné, et voyez; allez de là à Hamath la grande, et descendez à Gath des Philistins. Sont-ils plus prospères que ces royaumes-ci, ou leur territoire est-il plus grand que votre territoire?
3 Ye who are putting far away the day of calamity, —but bringing near the abode of violence:
Vous qui repoussez le jour de la calamité, et qui rapprochez le siège de la violence!
4 Who are lying on beds of ivory, and sprawling on their couch of pleasure, —and eating the well-fed of the flock, and the fatted calves out of the midst of the stalls:
Ils se couchent sur des lits d'ivoire, et s'étendent sur leurs coussins; ils mangent les agneaux du troupeau, et les veaux pris du lieu où on les engraisse;
5 Who are bawling at the bidding of the harp, —like David, have they invented for themselves instruments of song:
Ils divaguent au son du luth; comme David, ils inventent des instruments de musique;
6 Who are quaffing bowls of wine, and, with the best of oils, anointing themselves, —and are not afflicted for the injury of Joseph: —
Ils boivent le vin dans de grands vases; ils s'oignent avec la meilleure huile, et ne sont pas dans la douleur pour la ruine de Joseph.
7 Therefore, at once, shall they go into exile among the first of the exiles, —so shall be disturbed the revelry of sprawlers.
C'est pourquoi ils vont être emmenés à la tête des captifs, et les clameurs des voluptueux cesseront.
8 Sworn hath the Lord, Yahweh, by his own life, Declareth Yahweh, God of hosts, abhorring am I, the grandeur of Jacob, and, his palaces, I hate, —therefore will I cast off the city and the fulness thereof.
Le Seigneur, l'Éternel, l'a juré par lui-même, dit l'Éternel, le Dieu des armées: Je déteste l'orgueil de Jacob, et je hais ses palais; je livrerai la ville et ce qu'elle contient.
9 And it shall come to pass, though there be left remaining ten men in one house, yet shall they die;
Que s'il reste dix hommes dans une maison, ils mourront aussi.
10 And a man’s near of kin, even he who is about to burn the bones, shall carry him out of the house, when he shall say to him that is in the hinder parts of the house—Are there yet any with thee? and he shall say—No one. Then shall he say—Hush! for we must not invoke the name of Yahweh.
Et le proche parent d'un mort, et celui qui doit le brûler, le prendra pour emporter les os hors de la maison, et il dira à celui qui est au fond de la maison: Y a-t-il encore quelqu'un auprès de toi? Et il répondra: Il n'y en a plus! Puis il dira: Silence! ce n'est pas le moment de prononcer le nom de l'Éternel.
11 For lo! Yahweh, is giving command, and will smite the great house into ruins, —and the little house with clefts.
Car voici, l'Éternel donne ses ordres, et il fera tomber la grande maison en ruines, et la petite maison en débris.
12 Shall horses run upon crag? or will a man plough [there] with oxen? For ye have turned to poison the sentence of justice, and the fruit of righteousness, to wormwood:
Des chevaux courent-ils sur le rocher, ou y laboure-t-on avec des bœufs, que vous ayez changé le droit en poison, et le fruit de la justice en absinthe?
13 Who rejoice in a thing of nought, —who say, Have we not by our own strength, taken to ourselves horns?
Vous qui vous réjouissez en ce qui n'est rien, vous qui dites: N'est-ce pas par notre force que nous avons acquis de la puissance?
14 For behold me! raising up against you, O house of Israel, Declareth Yahweh, the God of hosts—a nation! And they shall crush you, from the entering in of Hamath, unto the torrent-bed of the waste plain.
Car voici, je vais faire lever contre vous, maison d'Israël, dit l'Éternel, le Dieu des armées, une nation qui vous opprimera, depuis l'entrée de Hamath jusqu'au torrent du désert.
