Amos 5
1 Hear ye this word, which, I, am taking up concerning you—even a dirge, O house of Israel.
Écoutez cette parole du Seigneur que j'ai recueillie à votre sujet, écoutez cette plainte: la maison d'Israël est tombée, jamais elle ne se relèvera.
2 She hath fallen—she cannot again rise, the virgin, Israel, —she lieth forsaken on her soil, there is none to raise her up.
La vierge d'Israël est tombée sur la terre, nul ne pourra la remettre debout.
3 For, thus, saith My Lord, Yahweh, The city that goeth out a thousand strong, shall have left it a hundred, —And, that which goeth out a hundred strong, shall have left it ten, belonging to the house of Israel.
À cause de cela, le Seigneur Dieu dit ces choses: La ville d'où sortaient mille hommes, il en sera laissé cent; celle d'où sortaient cent hommes, il en sera laissé dix en la maison d'Israël.
4 For, thus, saith Yahweh, to the house of Israel, —Seek me, and live;
C'est pourquoi, voici ce que dit le Seigneur à la maison d'Israël: Cherchez-Moi, et vous vivrez;
5 Then do not seek Bethel, and, Gilgal, shall ye not enter, and, unto Beer-sheba, shall ye not cross over, For, Gilgal, shall, surely go into exile, and, Bethel, shall become a trouble.
mais ne cherchez point Béthel, et n'allez point en Galgala, et ne dépassez point le puits du serment; car Galgala sera emmenée captive, et Béthel sera comme n'étant plus.
6 Seek ye Yahweh, and live, —lest he break forth, like a fire, upon the house of Joseph, and it devour with none to quench it, for Bethel.
Cherchez le Seigneur et vivez, de peur que la maison de Joseph ne brûle comme un feu, et ne vous dévore; car nul ne sera là pour éteindre l'incendie en la maison d'Israël.
7 Ye who turn, into, wormwood, justice, and, righteousness—to the ground have let fall.
Celui qui juge du haut des cieux, a de même établi la justice sur la terre.
8 [Seek him] who made the Cluster and the Giant, and turneth, into morning, the shadow of death, and who, day into night, doth darken, Him who calleth to the waters of the sea, and poureth them out on the face of the land, Yahweh, is his name:
Celui qui a créé toutes choses les change à Son gré: Il change les ténèbres en matin; Il change le jour en nuit sombre; c'est Lui qui appelle l'eau de la mer, qui la répand sur la surface de la terre; le Seigneur est Son Nom
9 Him who flasheth force on the strong, —and, force, on the fortress, alighteth!
Lui qui amène la ruine contre la force, et déchaîne la misère contre le lieu fortifié.
10 They hate the man who, in the gate, rebuketh, —and, him who speaketh truthfully, they abhor.
Ils ont haï l'homme qui les réprimandait devant leurs portes, et ils ont eu en abomination la parole sainte.
11 Therefore—because ye have trampled on the poor, and, the gift of corn, ye would take away from him, though, houses of hewn stone, ye have built, Yet shall ye not dwell in them, —Though, delightful vineyards, ye have planted, Yet shall ye not drink the wine of them.
À cause de cela, et en punition de ce que vous avez frappé du poing les pauvres, et de ce que vous avez accepté d'eux de beaux présents, bâtissez des maisons de pierres de taille, et vous ne les habiterez pas; plantez des vignes excellentes, et vous n'en boirez pas le vin;
12 For I know how numerous are your transgressions, and how surpassing your sins, —ye adversaries of the righteous! ye acceptors of a bribe! Even the needy in the gate, have they turned away!
car Je connais vos nombreuses impiétés, et vos péchés sont grands; vous foulez aux pieds la justice; pour juger, vous prenez des présents; et vous vous détournez des pauvres devant les portes de la ville.
13 Therefore, the prudent man, at that time, will be dumb, —Because an evil time, it is!
C'est pourquoi l'homme intelligent, en ces temps-là, gardera le silence; car c'est le temps de la perversité.
14 Seek ye right and not wrong, that ye nay live, —that, so, Yahweh God of hosts, may be with you, as ye have said.
Cherchez le bien et non le mal, afin que vous viviez; et, de cette manière, le Seigneur Dieu tout-puissant sera avec vous. Comme vous avez dit:
15 Hate wrong, and love right, and station, Justice, in the gate, —Peradventure, Yahweh, God of hosts, will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.
Nous avons haï le mal, et nous aimons le bien; faites revivre la justice devant les portes de la ville, afin que le Seigneur Dieu tout-puissant ait pitié des restes de Joseph.
16 Therefore, thus, saith Yahweh, God of hosts, My Lord, In all broadways, shall be lamentation, and, in all streets, shall they say, Alas! Alas! And they shall call the husbandman unto the mourning, and, unto the lamentation, them who know a wailing song;
À cause de cela, voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu tout-puissant: On se frappera la poitrine sur toutes les places; et dans toutes les rues on criera: Malheur! malheur! On appellera le laboureur à ce deuil et à cette plainte, pour qu'il se joigne à ceux qui savent se lamenter.
17 Ye, in all vineyards, lamentation, —For I will pass along through thy midst, saith Yahweh.
Et sur toutes les voies on se frappera la poitrine, parce que Je viendrai au milieu de vous, dit le Seigneur.
18 Alas for them who are longing for the day of Yahweh, —What good to you, is the day of Yahweh? it, being darkness and not light:
Malheur à ceux qui désirent le jour du Seigneur. Et pourquoi ce jour-là est-il pour vous le jour du Seigneur? C'est que ce jour est ténèbres, et non lumière.
19 As if a man should flee from the face of a lion, and there should meet him—a bear! or he should have entered the house, and leaned his hand upon the wall, and there should bite him—a serpent!
Vous serez comme un homme qui s'enfuit en voyant un lion, puis aussitôt rencontre une ourse; et qui, si il bondit jusqu'à sa demeure, s'il appuie sa main contre le mur, est mordu par un serpent.
20 Shall not the day of Yahweh be, darkness, and not light? yea, thick darkness and no brightness in it?
Le jour du Seigneur n'est-il pas ténèbres, et non lumière? Ce jour n'est- il pas obscurité sans la moindre lueur?
21 I hate, I despise your festivals, —and can scent no fragrance in your solemn feasts.
Je hais, Je répudie vos fêtes; Je ne puis souffrir l'odeur de vos victimes en vos solennités.
22 Nay, though ye cause to ascend unto me ascending-sacrifices, and your meal-offerings, I will not accept [them], —nor, the peace-offering of your fat heifers, will I regard.
Si donc vous M'offrez des holocaustes et des sacrifices, Je ne les agréerais pas; Je n'aurai point égard à vos hosties pacifiques.
23 Take thou away from me, the noise of thy songs, —Even the melody of thy harps, will I not hear.
Éloignez de Moi les bruit de vos cantiques, Je n'écouterai pas le son de vos harpes.
24 But let, justice, roll along like water, —and, righteousness, as a torrent over flowing.
Et Mon jugement roulera comme une pluie violente, et Ma justice comme un torrent où l'on ne peut naviguer.
25 The sacrifices and meal-offering, ye brought near unto me, in the desert, for forty years O house of Israel;
Maison d'Israël, ne M'avez-vous pas offert des sacrifices et des victimes durant quarante ans dans le désert?
26 But ye carried the tent of your king-idol, and your Saturn-images, —the star of your gods, which ye made for yourselves:
Vous avez élevé le tabernacle de Moloch, et l'étoile de votre dieu Raiphan, et leurs images que vous aviez fabriqués.
27 Therefore will I carry you into exile beyond Damascus, —saith Yahweh, God of hosts, is his name.
Et Je vous ferai émigrer au delà de Damas, dit le Seigneur; le Dieu tout- puissant est Son Nom.
