Amos 1
1 The words of Amos, who was among the herdmen of Tekoa, —of which (words) he had vision concerning Israel, in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam son of Joash, king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.
Discours d'Amos, qui était parmi les bergers de Thékoa, lesquels lui furent révélés en vision sur Israël, au temps de Hosias, roi de Juda, et au temps de Jéroboam, fils de Joas, roi d'Israël, deux ans avant le tremblement de terre.
2 So then he said—Yahweh, out of Zion, will roar, and, out of Jerusalem, will utter his voice, —and the pastures of the shepherds, shall mourn, and the top of Carmel, be dried up.
Et il dit: L'Éternel de Sion pousse un rugissement, et de Jérusalem fait entendre sa voix, et le deuil est sur les pacages des bergers, et la sécheresse sur la cime du Carmel.
3 Thus, saith Yahweh, Because of three transgressions of Damascus, and because of four, will I not turn it back, —Because, with threshing instruments of iron, they have threshed Gilead.
Ainsi parle l'Éternel: A cause de trois, de quatre crimes de Damas, je ne m'en rétracte point, parce qu'ils ont foulé Galaad sous des traîneaux de fer:
4 Therefore will send a fire, into the house of Hazael, —which shall devour the palaces of Ben- hadad;
je lancerai donc un feu dans la maison d'Hazaël, pour qu'il dévore les palais de Benhadad,
5 And I will break the bolt of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant out of the plain of Aven, and the holder of the sceptre out of the house of Eden, —and the people of Syria, shall be exiled, unto Kir, saith Yahweh.
et je briserai les verrous de Damas, et exterminerai de la vallée des idoles les habitants, et de Beth-Eden celui qui tient le sceptre, et le peuple d'Aram s'en ira captif à Kir, dit l'Éternel.
6 Thus, saith Yahweh, Because of three transgressions of Gaza, and because of four, will I not turn it back, —Because of their taking into exile the whole body of exiles, to deliver to Edom,
Ainsi parle l'Éternel: A cause de trois, de quatre crimes de Gaza, je ne m'en rétracte point, parce qu'ils ont emmené des captifs en grand nombre pour les livrer à Édom:
7 Therefore will I send a fire upon the wall of Gaza, —which shall devour the palaces thereof;
Je lancerai donc un feu dans les murs de Gaza, pour qu'il dévore ses palais,
8 And I will cut off the inhabitant out of Ashdod, and the holder of the sceptre out of Ashkelon, —and will turn my hand against Ekron, So shall perish the remnant of the Philistines, saith My Lord, Yahweh.
et d'Asdod j'exterminerai les habitants, et d'Askalon celui qui tient le sceptre, et je tournerai ma main contre Hécron, afin que périsse le reste des Philistins, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel.
9 Thus, saith Yahweh, Because of three transgressions of Tyre, and because of four, will I not turn it back, —Because of their delivering up the whole body of exiles to Edom, and they remembered not the brotherly covenant,
Ainsi parle l'Éternel: A cause de trois, de quatre crimes de Tyr, je ne m'en rétracte point, parce qu'ils ont livré des captifs en grand nombre à Édom, et n'ont point pensé à leur alliance avec des frères:
10 Therefore will I send a fire upon the wall of Tyre, —which shall devour the palaces thereof.
j'enverrai donc un feu dans les murs de Tyr, afin qu'il dévore ses palais.
11 Thus, saith Yahweh, Because of three transgressions of Edom, and because of four, will I not turn it back, —Because he pursued, with the sword, his brother, and stifled his compassions, and his anger tare in pieces evermore, and, his indignation, kept watch perpetually,
Ainsi parle l'Éternel: A cause de trois, de quatre crimes d'Édom, je ne m'en rétracte point, parce qu'avec l'épée il a poursuivi ses frères et qu'il a étouffé son affection, et que sa fureur est toujours acharnée, et qu'il garde sa colère à jamais:
12 Therefore will I send a fire into Teman, —which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.
je lancerai donc un feu en Théman, afin qu'il dévore les palais de Botsra.
13 Thus, saith Yahweh, Because of three transgressions of the sons of Ammon, and because of four, will I not turn it back, —Because of their ripping up the pregnant women of Gilead, that they might enlarge their own boundary,
Ainsi parle l'Éternel: A cause de trois, de quatre crimes des enfants d'Ammon, je ne m'en rétracte point, parce qu'ils ont éventré les femmes enceintes de Galaad, pour étendre leurs frontières:
14 Therefore will I kindle a fire upon the wall of Rabbah, which shall devour the palaces thereof, —with a war-cry in the day of battle, with tempest in the day of storm-wind;
j'allumerai donc un feu dans les murs de Rabbah, pour qu'il dévore ses palais au milieu des cris de guerre au jour de la bataille, au bruit de l'ouragan, au jour de la tempête;
15 And Milcom shall go into exile, —he and his rulers together, saith Yahweh.
et leur roi s'en ira captif, lui et ses grands tous ensemble, dit l'Éternel.
