2 Kings 3
1 Now, Jehoram son of Ahab, began to reign over Israel, in Samaria, in the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, —and he reigned twelve years.
૧યહૂદિયાના રાજા યહોશાફાટના શાસનકાળના અઢારમા વર્ષે આહાબનો દીકરો યહોરામ સમરુનમાં ઇઝરાયલ પર રાજ કરવા લાગ્યો. તેણે બાર વર્ષ સુધી રાજ કર્યું.
2 And he did the thing that was wicked in the eyes of Yahweh, only, not like his father, nor like his mother, —but he put away the pillars of Baal which, his father, had made;
૨તેણે યહોવાહની દ્રષ્ટિમાં જે ખરાબ હતું તે કર્યું, પણ તેના પિતાની કે માતાની જેમ નહિ, કેમ કે તેણે તેના પિતાએ બનાવેલો બઆલનો પવિત્ર સ્તંભ કાઢી નાખ્યો.
3 nevertheless, unto the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat which he caused Israel to commit, he did cleave, —he turned not away therefrom
૩તેમ છતાં તે નબાટના દીકરા યરોબામનાં પાપ કે જે વડે તેણે ઇઝરાયલ લોકો પાસે પાપ કરાવ્યું તેને વળગી રહ્યો. તેણે તેનો ત્યાગ કર્યો નહિ.
4 Now, Mesha king of Moab, was a sheep-master, —and used to render to the king of Israel, the wool of hundred thousand fat sheep, and of a hundred thousand rams.
૪હવે મોઆબનો રાજા મેશા ઘેટાં ઉછેરતો હતો. અને તે ઇઝરાયલના રાજાને એક લાખ ઘેટાંનું અને એક લાખ હલવાનનું ઊન ખંડણી તરીકે આપતો હતો.
5 And it came to pass, when Ahab died, that the king of Moab revolted against the king of Israel.
૫પણ આહાબના મરણ પછી મોઆબના રાજાએ ઇઝરાયલના રાજાની વિરુદ્ધ બળવો કર્યો.
6 So King Jehoram went forth, on that day, out of Samaria, and numbered all Israel.
૬તેથી યહોરામ રાજાએ તે જ સમયે સમરુનથી બહાર નીકળીને ઇઝરાયલના સૈનિકોને યુદ્ધને માટે એકત્ર કર્યા.
7 And he departed, and sent unto Jehoshaphat king of Judah, saying—The king of Moab, hath revolted against me, wilt thou go with me against Moab to battle? And he said—I will go up, I am as thou art, my people are as thy people, my horses as thy horses.
૭પછી તેણે યહૂદિયાના રાજા યહોશાફાટને સંદેશો મોકલ્યો કે, “મોઆબના રાજાએ મારી વિરુદ્ધ બળવો કર્યો છે. શું મોઆબની સામે યુદ્ધ કરવા તું મારી સાથે આવશે?” યહોશાફાટે કહ્યું, “હું આવીશ. જેવા તમે તેવો હું છું, જેવા તમારા લોક તેવા મારા લોક, જેવા તમારા ઘોડેસવારો તેવા મારા ઘોડેસવારો છે.”
8 And he said—Which way, then, shall we go up? And he said—The way of the wilderness of Edom.
૮પછી તેણે કહ્યું, “આપણે કયા માર્ગેથી હુમલો કરીશું?” યહોરામે કહ્યું, “અદોમના અરણ્યના માર્ગેથી.”
9 Then departed the king of Israel, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom, and went round, a journey of seven days, —and there was no water for the host, nor for the cattle that went with them.
૯તેથી ઇઝરાયલનો રાજા, યહૂદિયાનો રાજા તથા અદોમનો રાજા યુદ્ધ માટે આગળ વધ્યા. તેઓએ ચકરાવો મારીને સાત દિવસની કૂચ કરી, ત્યાં તેઓના સૈન્ય માટે, ઘોડા માટે તથા બીજાં પશુઓ માટે પાણી ન હતું.
10 Then said the king of Israel—Alas! for Yahweh hath called these three kings, to deliver them into the hand of Moab.
૧૦ત્યારે ઇઝરાયલના રાજાએ કહ્યું, “આ શું છે? યહોવાહે આપણને ત્રણ રાજાઓને ભેગા કરીને બોલાવ્યા છે કે જેથી મોઆબીઓ આપણને હરાવે?”
11 So Jehoshaphat said—Is there not, here, a prophet of Yahweh, that we may enquire of Yahweh, from him? Then answered one of the servants of the king of Israel, and said, Here, is Elisha son of Shaphat, who poured water on the hands of Elijah.
૧૧પણ યહોશાફાટે કહ્યું, “શું અહીં યહોવાહનો કોઈ પ્રબોધક નથી કે, જેના દ્વારા આપણે યહોવાહને પૂછી જોઈએ?” ઇઝરાયલના રાજાના ચાકરોમાંના એકે કહ્યું, “શાફાટનો દીકરો એલિશા જે એલિયાના હાથ પર પાણી રેડનારો હતો તે અહીં છે.”
12 Then said Jehoshaphat, The word of Yahweh, is with him. So the king of Israel, and Jehoshaphat, and the king of Edom, went down unto him.
૧૨યહોશાફાટે કહ્યું, “યહોવાહનું વચન તેની પાસે છે.” તેથી ઇઝરાયલનો રાજા યહોશાફાટ તથા અદોમનો રાજા તેની પાસે ગયા.
13 And Elisha said unto the king of Israel—What have I and thou in common? get thee unto the prophets of thy father, and unto the prophets of thy mother. But the king of Israel said to him—Nay! for Yahweh hath called together these three kings, to deliver them into the hand of Moab.
૧૩એલિશાએ ઇઝરાયલના રાજાને કહ્યું કે, “હું તમારી સાથે શું કરું? તમારી માતાના તથા પિતાના પ્રબોધકો પાસે જાઓ.” તેથી ઇઝરાયલના રાજાએ તેને કહ્યું, “ના, કેમ કે યહોવાહે અમને ત્રણ રાજાઓને મોઆબના હાથમાં સોંપી દેવા માટે એકત્ર કર્યાં છે.”
14 Then said Elisha—By the life of Yahweh of hosts, before whom I stand, were it not that, the countenance of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, I would lift up, I would neither look at thee, nor see thee.
૧૪એલિશાએ કહ્યું, “સૈન્યોના યહોવાહ, જેમની સમક્ષ હું ઊભો રહું છું તેમના જીવના સમ, જો યહૂદિયાના રાજા યહોશાફાટ પ્રત્યે મને માન ન હોત, તો ખરેખર હું તમારી તરફ દ્રષ્ટિ પણ ન કરત.
15 But, now, bring me one that can touch the strings. For it used to be, when the player touched the strings, then would, the hand of Yahweh, be upon him.
૧૫પણ હવે મારી પાસે કોઈ વાજિંત્ર વગાડનારને લાવો.” પછી વાજિંત્ર વગાડનારે આવીને વાજિંત્ર વગાડ્યું ત્યારે એમ બન્યું કે, યહોવાહનો હાથ એલિશા પર આવ્યો.
16 Then said he, Thus, saith Yahweh, Make, in this torrent-bed, pits, pits!
૧૬તેણે કહ્યું, “યહોવાહ એમ કહે છે: આ સૂકી નદીની ખીણમાં બધી જગ્યાએ ખાઈઓ ખોદો.’
17 For, thus, saith Yahweh—Ye shall not see wind, and ye shall not see rain, yet, that torrent-bed, shall be filled with water, —And ye shall drink, ye, and your cattle, and your beasts;
૧૭કેમ કે યહોવાહ એવું કહે છે, તમે પવન જોશો નહિ, તેમ તમે વરસાદ જોશો નહિ, પણ આ ખીણ પાણીથી ભરાઈ જશે. અને તેમાં તમે, તેમ જ તમારાં જાનવર અને તમારાં પશુઓ પણ પાણી પીશે.
18 And, this being a small thing in the eyes of Yahweh, he will deliver Moab into your hand;
૧૮આ તો યહોવાહની દ્રષ્ટિમાં નાની બાબત છે. વળી તે મોઆબીઓને પણ તમારા હાથમાં સોંપી દેશે.
19 And ye shall smite every strong city, and every choice city, and, every goodly tree, shall ye fell, and, all fountains water, shall ye close up, —and, every goodly heritage, shall ye mar with stones.
૧૯તમે તેઓના દરેક કિલ્લેબંધીવાળા નગર તથા દરેક સારા નગર પર હુમલો કરશો, દરેક સારા વૃક્ષોને કાપી નાખશો, દરેક પાણીના ઝરા બંધ કરી દેશો, દરેક સારી જમીનને પથ્થરો નાખીને બગાડી નાખશો.”
20 And it came to pass, in the morning, when the offering ascended, that lo! waters, were coming in from the way of Edom, —and the land was filled with the water.
૨૦સવારે બલિદાન અર્પણ કરવાના સમયે એમ થયું કે, અદોમ તરફથી પાણી આવ્યું અને દેશ પાણીથી ભરાઈ ગયો હતો.
21 Now, all Moab, had heard that the kings had come up to fight against them, —so they came together, from all who could gird on a girdle and upwards, and took their stand at the border.
૨૧જયારે બધા મોઆબીઓએ સાંભળ્યું કે, રાજાઓ તેઓની સાથે યુદ્ધ કરવા આવ્યા છે, ત્યારે શસ્ત્ર સજી શકે એવા માણસો એકત્ર થઈને સરહદ પર ઊભા રહ્યા.
22 And, when they rose early in the morning, the sun, shone forth upon the waters, —and so the Moabites beheld over against them, the waters, red as blood.
૨૨તેઓ વહેલી સવારે ઊઠ્યા અને સૂર્યનો પ્રકાશ પાણી પર પડવા લાગ્યો. ત્યારે મોઆબીઓને પાણી રક્ત જેવું લાલ દેખાયું.
23 They said therefore—Blood, —this! Destroyed! The kings have destroyed each other! Yea they have smitten every man his neighbour, —Now, then, to the spoil, O Moab!
૨૩તેઓએ કહ્યું, “આ તો રક્ત છે! રાજાઓ નાશ પામ્યા છે, તેઓએ એકબીજાને મારી નાખ્યા છે! માટે હવે, હે મોઆબીઓ, તેઓને લૂંટવા માંડો.”
24 And, when they came into the camp of Israel, Israel arose and smote Moab, and they fled from before them, —so they entered thereinto, yea still farther entered Moab;
૨૪પરંતુ જયારે મોઆબીઓ ઇઝરાયલની છાવણીમાં આવ્યા, ત્યારે ઇઝરાયલીઓએ ઊભા થઈને મોઆબીઓને એવા માર્યા કે તેઓ તેમની આગળથી નાસી ગયા. ઇઝરાયલીઓ મોઆબીઓને મારતાં મારતાં તેઓને દેશમાંથી દૂર લઈ ગયા.
25 And, the cities, they pulled down, and, on every goodly heritage, they cast every man his stone, and filled it, and, all fountains of waters, they closed up, and, every goodly tree, they felled, and, though they left the stones thereof in Kir-haraseth, yet the slingers surrounded and smote it.
૨૫ઇઝરાયલે નગરોનો નાશ કર્યો અને દરેક માણસે જમીનના દરેક સારા ભાગમાં પથ્થર નાખીને ખેતરોને ભરી દીધા. બધા ઝરાને તેમણે બંધ કરી દીધાં, બધાં જ સારાં વૃક્ષો કાપી નાખ્યાં. ફક્ત કીર-હરેસેથમાં તેઓએ પથ્થરો રહેવા દીધા. અને સૈનિકોએ ગોફણથી તેના પર હુમલો કર્યો.
26 And, when the king of Moab saw that, the battle, prevailed against him, he took with him seven hundred men that drew swords, to break through against the king of Edom, but they could not.
૨૬જયારે મોઆબના રાજાએ જોયું કે, અમે યુદ્ધ હારી રહ્યા છીએ, ત્યારે તેણે અદોમના રાજાનો નાશ કરવાને પોતાની સાથે સાતસો તલવારધારી માણસોને લીધા, પણ તેઓ જઈ શક્યા નહિ.
27 So he took his firstborn son who was to have reigned in his stead, and offered him up as an ascending-sacrifice upon the wall. And so it came to pass that there was great indignation against Israel. And they brake up from against him, and returned to their own land.
૨૭મોઆબના રાજાએ પોતાના જ્યેષ્ઠ દીકરાને દિવાલ ઉપર દહનીયાર્પણ ચઢાવ્યું જેના કારણે ઇઝરાયલીઓ ભયભીત થઈને પોતાનાં દેશમાં ચાલ્યા ગયાં. તેથી ઇઝરાયલ પર ઈશ્વરને ક્રોધ ચઢ્યો.
