2 Kings 18
1 And it came to pass, in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.
Or la troisième année d'Hosée fils d'Ela Roi d'Israël, Ezéchias fils d'Achaz Roi de Juda commença à régner.
2 Twenty-five years old, was he when he began to reign, and, twenty-nine years, reigned he in Jerusalem, —and, his mother’s name, was Abi, daughter of Zachariah.
Il était âgé de vingt-cinq ans quand il commença à régner, et il régna vingt et neuf ans à Jérusalem; sa mère avait nom Abi, [et] était fille de Zacharie.
3 And he did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh, —according to all that, David his father, did.
Il fit ce gui est droit devant l'Eternel comme avait fait David son père.
4 He, removed the high places, and brake in pieces the pillars, and cut down the Sacred Stem, —and beat in pieces the serpent of bronze that, Moses, had made, because, until those days, had the sons of Israel been burning incense thereunto, so he called it Nehushtan.
Il ôta les hauts lieux, mit en pièces les statues, coupa les bocages, et il brisa le serpent d'airain que Moïse avait fait, parce que jusqu'à ce jour-là les enfants d'Israël lui faisaient des encensements; et il le nomma Néhustan.
5 In Yahweh, God of Israel, did he trust, —so that, after him, was none like him, among all the kings of Judah, nor that were before him;
Il mit son espérance en l'Eternel le Dieu d'Israël, et après lui il n'y eut point de [Roi] semblable à lui entre tous les Rois de Juda, comme il n'y en avait point eu entre ceux qui avaient été avant lui.
6 and he did cleave unto Yahweh, he turned not away from following him, —but kept his commandments, which, Yahweh, commanded, Moses.
Il s'attacha à l'Eternel, il ne s'en détourna point; et il garda les commandements que l'Eternel avait donnés à Moïse.
7 So Yahweh was with him, whithersoever he went forth, he prospered, —and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not.
Et l'Eternel fut avec lui partout où il allait, [et] il prospérait; mais il se rebella contre le Roi des Assyriens, pour ne lui être point assujetti.
8 He, smote the Philistines, as far as Gazah, and her boundaries, —from the watchmen’s tower even to the fortified city.
Il frappa les Philistins jusqu'à Gaza, et ses confins, depuis les tours des gardes jusqu'aux villes fortes.
9 And it came to pass, in the fourth year of King Hezekiah—the same, was the seventh year of Hosea son of Elah king of Israel, that Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and laid siege against it;
Or il arriva en la quatrième année du Roi Ezéchias, qui était la septième du règne d'Hosée fils d'Ela Roi d'Israël, que Salmanéser Roi des Assyriens monta contre Samarie, et l'assiégea.
10 and he captured it at the end of three years, in the sixth year of Hezekiah, —the same, is the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, was Samaria captured.
Au bout de trois ans ils la prirent; [et ainsi] la sixième année du règne d'Ezéchias, qui était la neuvième d'Hosée Roi d'Israël, Samarie fut prise.
11 So the king of Assyria drave away Israel to Assyria, —and settled them in Halah, and in Habor, by the river of Gozan, and the mountains of Media:
Et le Roi des Assyriens transporta les Israëlites en Assyrie, et les fit mener à Chalach, et sur le Chabor, fleuve de Gozan, et dans les villes des Mèdes;
12 because they hearkened not unto the voice of Yahweh their God, but transgressed his covenant, all that Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded, —they neither hearkened nor performed.
Parce qu'ils n'avaient point obéi à la voix de l'Eternel leur Dieu, mais avaient transgressé son alliance, [et] tout ce que Moïse serviteur de l'Eternel avait commandé; ils n'y avaient point obéi, et ne l'avaient point fait.
13 And, in the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, came up Sennacherib king of Assyria, against all the fortified cities of Judah, and took them.
r en la quatorzième année du Roi Ezéchias, Sanchérib Roi des Assyriens monta contre toutes les villes fortes de Juda, et les prit.
14 Then sent Hezekiah king of Judah unto the king of Assyria, to Lachish, saying—I have sinned, Return from me, What thou shalt lay upon me, I will bear. So the king of Assyria appointed unto Hezekiah king of Judah, three hundred talents of silver, and thirty talents of gold.
Et Ezéchias Roi de Juda envoya dire au Roi des Assyriens à Lakis: J'ai fait une faute, retire-toi de moi, je payerai tout ce que tu m'imposeras; et le Roi des Assyriens imposa trois cents talents d'argent, et trente talents d'or à Ezéchias Roi de Juda.
15 And Hezekiah delivered up all the silver that was found in the house of Yahweh, and in the treasuries of the house of the king.
Et Ezéchias donna tout l'argent qui se trouva dans la maison de l'Eternel, et dans les trésors de la maison Royale.
16 At that time, Hezekiah cut off the doors of the temple of Yahweh, and the columns, which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, —and gave them unto the king of Assyria.
En ce temps-là Ezéchias mit en pièces les portes du Temple de l'Eternel, et les linteaux que lui-même avait couverts [de lames d'or], et il les donna au Roi des Assyriens.
17 And the king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rab-saris and Rab-shakeh, from Lachish unto King Hezekiah, with a heavy force to Jerusalem, —so they came up and drew near to Jerusalem, and took their stand by the upper channel of the pool, which is in the highway of the fuller’s field.
Puis le Roi des Assyriens envoya de Lakis, Tarta, Rab-saris, et Rab-saké, avec de grandes forces vers le Roi Ezéchias à Jérusalem; et ils montèrent et vinrent à Jérusalem. Or étant montés et venus ils se présentèrent auprès du conduit du haut étang, qui est au grand chemin du champ du foulon.
18 Then called they for the king, and there went out unto them Eliakim son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, —and Shebnah, the scribe, and Joah son of Asaph, the recorder.
Et ils appelèrent le Roi tout haut. Alors Eliakim fils de Hilkija maître d'hôtel, et Sebna le Secrétaire, et Joach fils d'Asaph, commis sur les Registres, sortirent vers eux.
19 And Rab-shakeh said unto them—Pray you, say unto Hezekiah, —Thus, saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What trust is this wherewith thou dost trust?
Et Rab-saké leur dit: Dites maintenant à Ezéchias: Ainsi a dit le grand Roi, le Roi des Assyriens: Quelle est cette confiance sur laquelle tu t'appuies?
20 Thou hast said—they are only words of the lips!—Counsel and might [have I] for the war. Now, in whom dost thou trust, that thou hast rebelled against me?
Tu parles, mais ce ne sont que des paroles; le conseil et la force sont requis à la guerre. Mais en qui t'es-tu confié, pour te rebeller contre moi?
21 Now, lo! thou dost trust thyself on the support of this bruised cane, on Egypt, whereon, if a man lean, it will enter his hand and lay it open, —so, is Pharaoh king of Egypt, to all who trust upon him.
Voici maintenant, tu t'es confié en l'Egypte, en ce roseau cassé, sur lequel si quelqu'un s'appuie, il lui entrera dans la main, et la percera; tel est Pharaon Roi d'Egypte à tous ceux qui se confient en lui.
22 But, if ye should say unto me, In Yahweh our God, do we trust, Then is that not he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath removed, and said unto Judah, and unto Jerusalem—Before this altar, shall ye bow down, in Jerusalem?
Que si vous me dites: Nous nous confions en l'Eternel notre Dieu; n'[est]-ce pas celui dont Ezéchias a détruit les hauts lieux, et les autels, et a dit à Juda, et à Jérusalem: Vous vous prosternerez devant cet autel à Jérusalem?
23 Now, therefore, pledge thyself, I pray thee, with my lord, the king of Assyria, —that I supply thee with two thousand horses, if thou, on thy part, be able to set riders upon them.
Or maintenant donne des otages au Roi des Assyriens mon Maître, et je te donnerai deux mille chevaux, si tu peux donner autant d'hommes pour monter dessus.
24 How then wilt thou turn back the face of one pasha of the least of my lord’s servants? Or hast thou, on thy part, trusted to Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?
Comment donc ferais-tu tourner visage au moindre Gouverneur d'entre les serviteurs de mon Maître? mais tu te confies en l'Egypte, à cause des chariots et des gens de cheval.
25 Now, is it, without Yahweh, that I have come up against this place, to destroy it? Yahweh himself, said unto me, Go thou up against this land, and destroy it.
Mais maintenant suis-je monté sans l'Eternel contre ce lieu-ci pour le détruire? l'Eternel m'a dit: Monte contre ce pays-là, et le détruis.
26 Then said Eliakim son of Hilkiah, and Shebnah, and Joah, unto Rab-shakeh: Speak, we pray thee, unto thy servants in the, Syrian, language, for, we, can, understand, it, —and do not speak with us in, the Jews’, language, in the ears of the people who are upon the wall.
Alors Eliakim fils de Hilkija, et Sebna, et Joach dirent à Rab-saké: Nous te prions de parler en Langue Syriaque à tes serviteurs, car nous l'entendons; et ne nous parle point en Langue Judaïque, le peuple qui est sur la muraille l'écoutant.
27 But Rab-shakeh said unto them—Is it, concerning thy lord, and concerning thee, that my lord hath sent me to speak these things? Is it not concerning the men who are tarrying upon the wall, that they may eat their own dung and drink their own water with you?
Et Rab-saké leur répondit: Mon Maître m'a-t-il envoyé vers ton Maître, ou vers toi, pour parler ce langage? [ne m'a-t-il pas envoyé] vers les hommes qui se tiennent sur la muraille; [pour leur dire] qu'ils mangeront leur propre fiente, et qu'ils boiront leur urine avec vous?
28 So then Rab-shakeh took his stand, and cried out with a loud voice, in, the Jews’, language, —and spake, and said, Hear ye the message of the great king, the king of Assyria: —
Rab-saké donc se tint debout, et s'écria à haute voix en Langue Judaïque, et parla, et dit: Ecoutez la parole du grand Roi, le Roi des Assyriens.
29 Thus, saith the king: Let not Hezekiah deceive you, for he shall not he able to deliver you out of his hand;
Ainsi a dit le Roi: Qu'Ezéchias ne vous abuse point; car il ne vous pourra point délivrer de ma main.
30 Neither let Hezekiah cause you to trust in Yahweh, saying, Yahweh, will, certainly deliver, us, —this city, therefore, shall not be given over into the hand of the king of Assyria.
Qu'Ezéchias ne vous fasse point confier en l'Eternel, en disant: L'Eternel indubitablement nous délivrera, et cette ville ne sera point livrée entre les mains du Roi des Assyriens.
31 Do not hearken unto Hezekiah, —for, thus, saith the king of Assyria, Deal with me thankfully, and come out unto me, then shall ye eat—every one of his own vine, and every one of his own fig-tree, and drink every one the waters of his own cistern;
N'écoutez point Ezéchias; car ainsi a dit le Roi des Assyriens: Faites composition avec moi, et sortez vers moi; et vous mangerez chacun de sa vigne, et chacun de son figuier, et vous boirez chacun de l'eau de sa citerne;
32 Until I come and take you, into a land like your own land—A land of corn and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of oil olive and honey, so shall ye live, and not die, —But do not hearken unto Hezekiah, for he would persuade you, saying, Yahweh, will deliver us!
Avant que je vienne, et que je vous emmène en un pays qui est comme votre pays, un pays de froment et de bon vin, un pays de pain et de vignes, un pays d'oliviers qui portent de l'huile, et [un pays] de miel; vous vivrez, et vous ne mourrez point; mais n'écoutez point Ezéchias, quand il vous voudra persuader, en disant: L'Eternel nous délivrera.
33 Have, the gods of the nations, at all delivered, any one of them, his country, out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
Les dieux des nations ont-ils délivré chacun leur pays de la main du Roi des Assyriens?
34 Where are the gods of Hamath, and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena and Ivvah? Yea, did they deliver Samaria out of my hand?
Où sont les dieux de Hamath, et d'Arpad; où sont les dieux de Sépharvajim, d'Henah, et de Hiwah? [et] même a-t-on délivré Samarie de ma main?
35 Who are they, among all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country, out of my hand, —that, Yahweh, should deliver, Jerusalem, out of my hand?
Qui sont ceux d'entre tous les dieux de ces pays-là qui aient délivré leur pays de ma main, pour dire que l'Eternel délivrera Jérusalem de ma main?
36 But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word, —for, the command of the king, it was, saying—Ye must not answer him.
Et le peuple se tut, et on ne lui répondit pas un mot; car le Roi avait commandé disant: Vous ne lui répondrez point.
37 Then came in Eliakim son of Hilkiah who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah son of Asaph the recorder, unto Hezekiah, with rent clothes, —and they told him the words of Rab-shakeh.
Après cela, Eliakim fils de Hilkija Maître d'hôtel, et Sebna le Secrétaire, et Joach fils d'Asaph, commis sur les Registres, s'en revinrent, les vêtements déchirés, vers Ezéchias, et ils lui rapportèrent les paroles de Rab-saké.
