2 Chronicles 19
1 And Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned unto his own house in peace, to Jerusalem.
Giosafat, re di Giuda, tornò sano e salvo a casa sua a Gerusalemme.
2 And there came out to meet him, Jehu son of Hanani, the seer, who said unto King Jehoshaphat, Unto the lawless, was it [right] to give help? and, on them who hate Yahweh, to bestow thy love? For this cause, therefore, is there wrath against thee, from before Yahweh;
E il veggente Jehu, figliuolo di Hanani, andò incontro a Giosafat, e gli disse: “Dovevi tu dare aiuto ad un empio e amar quelli che odiano l’Eterno? Per questo fatto hai attirato su di te l’ira dell’Eterno.
3 howbeit, good things, are found with thee, -for that thou hast consumed the Sacred Stems out of the land, and hast fixed thy heart to seek God.
Nondimeno si son trovate in te delle buone cose, giacché hai fatti sparire dal paese gl’idoli d’Astarte, e hai applicato il cuor tuo alla ricerca di Dio”.
4 So Jehoshaphat dwelt in Jerusalem, —and he again went forth among the people, from Beersheba as far as the hill country of Ephraim, and brought them back unto Yahweh, the God of their fathers.
Giosafat rimase a Gerusalemme; poi fece di nuovo un giro fra il popolo, da Beer-Sceba alla contrada montuosa d’Efraim, e lo ricondusse all’Eterno, all’Iddio de’ suoi padri.
5 And he stationed judges in the land, throughout all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city;
E stabilì dei giudici nel paese, in tutte le città fortificate di Giuda, città per città, e disse ai giudici:
6 and said unto the judges, See what, ye, are doing, inasmuch as, not for man, must ye judge, but for Yahweh, —who will be with you, in the word of justice.
“Badate bene a quello che fate; poiché voi amministrate la giustizia, non per servire ad un uomo ma per servire all’Eterno; il quale sarà con voi negli affari della giustizia.
7 Now, therefore, let the dread of Yahweh be upon you, —observe and do, for there is, with Yahweh our God, neither perversity nor respect of persons nor the taking of bribes.
Or dunque il timor dell’Eterno sia in voi; agite con circospezione, poiché presso l’Eterno, ch’è l’Iddio nostro, non v’è né perversità, né riguardo a qualità di persone, né accettazione di doni”.
8 And, even in Jerusalem, did Jehoshaphat station some of the Levites and the priests, and of the ancestral chiefs of Israel, to pronounce the just sentence of Yahweh, and to settle disputes, —when they returned to Jerusalem.
Giosafat, tornato che fu a Gerusalemme, stabilì anche quivi dei Leviti, dei sacerdoti e dei capi delle case patriarcali d’Israele per render giustizia nel nome dell’Eterno, e per sentenziare nelle liti.
9 And he laid charge upon them, saying, —Thus, shall ye act, in the fear of Yahweh, faithfully and with an undivided heart.
E diede loro i suoi ordini, dicendo: “Voi farete così, con timore dell’Eterno, con fedeltà e con cuore integro:
10 Any dispute that shall come in unto you from among your brethren who are dwelling in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment and statutes and regulations, then shall ye warn them, that they may not become guilty against Yahweh, and so wrath come upon you and upon your brethren, —Thus, shall ye act, and not incur guilt.
In qualunque lite che vi sia portata dinanzi dai vostri fratelli dimoranti nelle loro città, sia che si tratti d’un omicidio o d’una legge o d’un comandamento o d’uno statuto o d’un precetto, illuminateli, affinché non si rendano colpevoli verso l’Eterno, e l’ira sua non piombi su voi e sui vostri fratelli. Così facendo, voi non vi renderete colpevoli.
11 And lo! Amariah the chief priest, is over you as to every matter of Yahweh, and Zebadiah son of Ishmael the chief ruler for the house of Judah, as to every matter of the king, and, as officers, the Levites are before you, —Be strong and act, and Yahweh be with the good!
Ed ecco, il sommo sacerdote Amaria vi sarà preposto per tutti gli affari che concernono l’Eterno; e Zebadia, figliuolo d’Ismaele, capo della casa di Giuda, per tutti gli affari che concernono il re; e avete a vostra disposizione dei Leviti, come magistrati. Fatevi cuore, mettetevi all’opra, e l’Eterno sia con l’uomo dabbene!”
