2 Chronicles 19
1 And Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned unto his own house in peace, to Jerusalem.
Josaphat, roi de Juda, revint en paix dans sa maison à Jérusalem.
2 And there came out to meet him, Jehu son of Hanani, the seer, who said unto King Jehoshaphat, Unto the lawless, was it [right] to give help? and, on them who hate Yahweh, to bestow thy love? For this cause, therefore, is there wrath against thee, from before Yahweh;
Jéhu, fils de Hanani, le voyant, sortit au-devant de lui, et il dit au roi Josaphat: « Doit-on secourir le méchant, et aimes-tu ceux qui haïssent Yahweh? À cause de cela, est venue sur toi la colère, de par Yahweh.
3 howbeit, good things, are found with thee, -for that thou hast consumed the Sacred Stems out of the land, and hast fixed thy heart to seek God.
Pourtant, il s’est trouvé quelque bien en toi, car tu as fait disparaître du pays les aschérahs, et tu as appliqué ton cœur à chercher Dieu. »
4 So Jehoshaphat dwelt in Jerusalem, —and he again went forth among the people, from Beersheba as far as the hill country of Ephraim, and brought them back unto Yahweh, the God of their fathers.
Josaphat résida à Jérusalem; et de nouveau il visita le peuple depuis Bersabée jusqu’à la montagne d’Ephraïm, et il les ramena à Yahweh, le Dieu de leurs pères.
5 And he stationed judges in the land, throughout all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city;
Il établit des juges dans le pays, dans toutes les villes fortes de Juda, pour chaque ville.
6 and said unto the judges, See what, ye, are doing, inasmuch as, not for man, must ye judge, but for Yahweh, —who will be with you, in the word of justice.
Et il dit aux juges: « Prenez garde à ce que vous ferez, car ce n’est pas pour les hommes que vous rendrez la justice, mais c’est pour Yahweh; il sera avec vous quand vous rendrez la justice.
7 Now, therefore, let the dread of Yahweh be upon you, —observe and do, for there is, with Yahweh our God, neither perversity nor respect of persons nor the taking of bribes.
Et moi maintenant, que la crainte de Yahweh soit sur vous; veillez sur vos actes, car il n’y a avec Yahweh, notre Dieu, ni iniquité, ni acception des personnes, ni acceptation des présents. »
8 And, even in Jerusalem, did Jehoshaphat station some of the Levites and the priests, and of the ancestral chiefs of Israel, to pronounce the just sentence of Yahweh, and to settle disputes, —when they returned to Jerusalem.
À Jérusalem aussi, quand ils revinrent dans cette ville, Josaphat établit, pour les jugements de Yahweh et pour les contestations, des lévites, des prêtres et des chefs de maisons d’Israël.
9 And he laid charge upon them, saying, —Thus, shall ye act, in the fear of Yahweh, faithfully and with an undivided heart.
Et il leur donna des ordres en ces termes: « Vous agirez ainsi en craignant Yahweh, dans la fidélité et l’intégrité du cœur.
10 Any dispute that shall come in unto you from among your brethren who are dwelling in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment and statutes and regulations, then shall ye warn them, that they may not become guilty against Yahweh, and so wrath come upon you and upon your brethren, —Thus, shall ye act, and not incur guilt.
Dans toute cause qui viendra devant vous de la part de vos frères établis dans leurs villes, quand il s’agira de distinguer entre meurtre et meurtre, entre loi, commandement, précepte ou ordonnance, vous les éclairerez, afin qu’ils ne se rendent pas coupables envers Yahweh, et que sa colère ne vienne pas sur vous et sur vos frères. Vous agirez ainsi, et vous ne serez point coupables.
11 And lo! Amariah the chief priest, is over you as to every matter of Yahweh, and Zebadiah son of Ishmael the chief ruler for the house of Judah, as to every matter of the king, and, as officers, the Levites are before you, —Be strong and act, and Yahweh be with the good!
Et voici que vous aurez à votre tête Amarias, le grand prêtre, pour toutes les affaires de Yahweh, et Zabadias, fils d’Ismaël, le prince de la maison de Juda, pour toutes les affaires du roi, et vous aurez devant vous les lévites comme officiers. Courage et à l’œuvre! et que Yahweh soit avec vous! »
