2 Chronicles 15
1 Now, as for Azariah son of Oded, there came upon him, the spirit of God.
Azariahou, fils d’Oded, fut saisi de l’inspiration divine.
2 So he went forth to meet Asa, and said unto him, Hear me, O Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin, —Yahweh, is with you, so long as ye are with him, and, if ye seek him, he will be found of you, but, if ye forsake him, he will forsake you.
Il sortit au devant d’Asa et lui dit: "Ecoutez-moi, Asa et tout Juda et Benjamin! L’Eternel est avec vous, lorsque vous êtes avec lui; si vous le recherchez, il vous sera accessible; mais si vous l’abandonnez, il vous abandonnera.
3 Now, many days, had Israel been, —without the faithful God, and without a teaching priest, and without the law;
Or, Israël a vécu de longs jours, sans avoir ni vrai Dieu, ni prêtre pour enseigner, ni Loi.
4 But they turned, in their distress, unto Yahweh God of Israel, —and sought him, and he was found of them.
Seulement, quand le malheur l’accablait, il revenait à l’Eternel, Dieu d’Israël, et avait recours à lui, qui les accueillait.
5 And, in those times, there had been no prosperity, to him that went out nor to him that came in, —for, great consternations, were upon all the inhabitants of the lands;
En ces temps d’impiété, il n’y avait nulle sécurité pour les allants et venants, tant était grande l’anarchie parmi tous les habitants de ces contrées.
6 and they were beaten in pieces-nation against nation, and city against city, —for, God, discomfited them with all manner of distress.
Un peuple était écrasé par un autre peuple, une ville par une autre ville, car Dieu les mettait en désarroi par toute sorte de calamités.
7 Ye, therefore, be strong, and let not your hands be slack, —for there is a reward for your work!
Vous donc, soyez fermes, ne laissez pas défaillir vos bras, car il y aura une récompense pour vos efforts!"
8 And, when Asa heard these words and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he strengthened himself, and put away the abominations out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had captured out of the hill country of Ephraim, —and renewed the altar of Yahweh, that was before the porch of Yahweh.
Asa, ayant entendu ces paroles, cette prophétie du prophète Oded, en fut encouragé. Il fit disparaître les impures idoles de tout le pays de Juda et de Benjamin et des villes qu’il avait conquises dans les monts d’Ephraïm, et il restaura l’autel du Seigneur, placé devant le portique de l’Eternel.
9 And he gathered together all Judah and Benjamin, and the sojourners with them, out of Ephraim and out of Manasseh, and out of Simeon, —for they fell unto him out of Israel, in great numbers, because they saw that, Yahweh his God, was with him.
Il rassembla tout Juda et Benjamin et ceux d’Ephraïm, de Manassé et de Siméon qui étaient venus séjourner parmi eux; de fait des gens d’Israël s’étaient ralliés à lui en grand nombre, en voyant que l’Eternel, son Dieu, était avec lui.
10 So they gathered themselves together unto Jerusalem, in the third month of the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa.
Ils s’assemblèrent à Jérusalem le troisième mois de la quinzième année du règne d’Asa.
11 And they sacrificed unto Yahweh, on that day, out of the spoil they had brought in, —oxen, seven hundred, and sheep, seven thousand.
Ce jour-là, ils sacrifièrent à l’Eternel, sur le butin qu’ils avaient amené, sept cents têtes de gros bétail et sept mille brebis.
12 And they entered into a covenant, to seek Yahweh, God of their fathers, —with all their heart, and with all their soul;
Ils promirent, par un pacte solennel, qu’ils auraient recours à l’Eternel, Dieu de leurs pères, de tout leur cœur et de toute leur âme,
13 and, whosoever would not seek unto Yahweh God of Israel, should be put to death, —whether small or great, whether man or woman.
et que quiconque n’aurait pas recours à l’Eternel, Dieu d’Israël, serait puni de mort, petit ou grand, homme ou femme.
14 So they bound themselves by oath unto Yahweh, with a loud voice, and with shouting, —and with trumpets and with horns.
Ils en firent le serment au Seigneur à haute voix, en poussant des acclamations et au son des trompettes et des cors.
15 And all Judah rejoiced over the oath, for, with all their heart, had they sworn, and, with all their good will, had they sought him, and he was found of them, —and Yahweh gave them rest round about.
Tout Juda fut en joie à propos de ce serment, car ils l’avaient prêté de tout cœur, et c’est de toutes les forces de leur volonté qu’ils avaient cherché Dieu et, par conséquent, trouvé. Aussi le Seigneur leur assura-t-il le repos de toute part.
16 Moreover also, as touching Maacah mother of Asa the king, he removed her from being queen, because she had made, unto the Sacred Stem, a monstrous thing, —so Asa cut down her monstrous thing, and reduced it to dust, and burnt it up, in the Kidron ravine.
Le roi Asa destitua même de la Régence sa mère Maakha, qui avait consacré une image à Astarté; par l’ordre d’Asa, cette image fut abattue, réduite en poussière, et brûlée dans la vallée de Cédron.
17 But, the high places, were not taken away out of Israel, —only, the heart of Asa, was perfect, all his days.
Toutefois, les hauts lieux ne disparurent point d’Israël; mais le cœur d’Asa resta fidèle à Dieu toute sa vie.
18 And he brought the hallowed things of his father and his own hallowed things, into the house of God, —silver and gold, and utensils.
Il fit porter dans la maison de Dieu ce que son père et lui-même avaient consacré en fait d’argent, d’or et de vases précieux.
19 And, war, was there none, —until the thirty-fifth year of the reign of Asa.
De guerre, il n’y en eut pas jusqu’à la trente-cinquième année du règne d’Asa.
