2 Chronicles 11
1 And when Rehoboam had entered Jerusalem, he called together the house of Judah and Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men, warriors, —to fight against Israel, to bring back the kingdom to Rehoboam.
De retour à Jérusalem, Roboam rassembla la maison de Juda et de Benjamin, cent quatre-vingt mille guerriers d’élite, pour qu’ils combattissent contre Israël, afin de ramener le royaume à Roboam.
2 Then came the word of Yahweh, unto Shemaiah the man of God, saying:
Mais la parole de Yahweh fut adressée à Sémaïas, homme de Dieu, en ces termes:
3 Speak unto Rehoboam son of Solomon, king of Judah, —and unto all Israel in Judah and in Benjamin, saying:
« Parle à Roboam, fils de Salomon, roi de Juda, et à tout Israël en Juda et en Benjamin, en disant:
4 Thus, saith Yahweh, Ye shall not go up neither shall ye fight against your brethren, return every man to his own house, for, from me, hath this thing been brought about. So they hearkened unto the words of Yahweh, and turned back from going against Jeroboam.
Ainsi dit Yahweh: Ne montez pas et ne faites pas la guerre à vos frères! Retournez chacun dans votre maison, car c’est par moi que cette chose est arrivée. « Ils écoutèrent les paroles de Yahweh, et ils s’en retournèrent, sans marcher contre Jéroboam.
5 And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, —and built cities for defence, in Judah;
Roboam résida à Jérusalem, et il bâtit des villes fortes en Juda.
6 yea he built Bethlehem and Etam, and Tekoa;
Il bâtit Bethléem, Etam, Thécué,
7 and Beth-zur and Soco, and Adullam;
Bethsur, Socho, Odollam,
8 and Gath and Mareshah, and Ziph;
Geth, Marésa, Ziph,
9 and Adoraim and Lachish, and Azekah;
Aduram, Lachis, Azéca,
10 and Zorah, and Aijalon and Hebron, which are in Judah and Benjamin, —as fortified cities.
Saraa, Aïalon et Hébron, villes fortes situées en Juda et en Benjamin.
11 And he strengthened the fortified places, —and put therein captains, and stores of food, and oil and wine;
Il mit les forteresses en état de défense et il y plaça des commandants, ainsi que des magasins de vivres, d’huile et de vin.
12 and, in every several city, shields and spears, and made them exceedingly strong, —thus Judah and Benjamin remained his.
Il mit dans chaque ville des boucliers et des lances, et il les rendit très fortes. Juda et Benjamin étaient à lui.
13 And, the priests and Levites that were in all Israel, took their stand with him, out of all their boundaries.
Les prêtres et les lévites qui se trouvaient dans tout Israël vinrent de tous leurs territoires se présenter à Roboam;
14 For the Levites left their pasture lands, and their possessions, and came to Judah, and to Jerusalem, —for Jeroboam and his sons cast them off, from ministering as priests unto Yahweh;
car les fils de Lévi abandonnèrent leurs pâturages et leurs propriétés, et allèrent en Juda et à Jérusalem, parce que Jéroboam avec ses fils les excluait des fonctions sacerdotales en l’honneur de Yahweh,
15 and appointed for himself priests for the high places, and for the demons—and for the calves which he had made.
et qu’il avait établi des prêtres pour les hauts lieux, pour les boucs et pour les veaux qu’il avait faits.
16 And, after them—out of all the tribes of Israel, such as were setting their heart to seek Yahweh God of Israel, came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto Yahweh, God of their fathers.
À leur suite, ceux de toutes les tribus d’Israël qui appliquaient leur cœur à chercher Yahweh, le Dieu d’Israël, vinrent à Jérusalem pour sacrifier à Yahweh, le Dieu de leurs pères.
17 So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and emboldened Rehoboam son of Solomon, for three years, —for they walked in the way of David and Solomon, for three years.
Ils donnèrent ainsi de la force au royaume de Juda et affermirent Roboam, fils de Salomon, pendant trois ans; car ils marchèrent pendant trois ans dans la voie de David et de Salomon.
18 And Rehoboam took him to wife, Mahalath, daughter of Jerimoth, son of David, —and Abihail, daughter of Eliab, son of Jesse;
Roboam prit pour femme Mahalath, fille de Jérimoth, fils de David, et d’ Abihaïl fille d’Eliab, fils d’Isaï.
19 and she bare him sons, —Jeush and Shamariah and Zaham.
Elle lui enfanta des fils: Jéhus, Somoria et Zom.
20 And, after her, he took Maacah, daughter of Absolom, —and she bare him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.
Après elle, il prit Maacha, fille d’Absalom, qui lui enfanta Abia, Ethaï, Ziza et Salomith.
21 And Rehoboam loved Maacah daughter of Absolom, above all his wives and his concubines, for, eighteen wives, took he, and sixty concubines, —and begat twenty-eight sons, and sixty daughters.
Roboam aimait Maacha, fille d’Absalom, plus que toutes ses femmes et ses concubines; car il eut dix-huit femmes et soixante concubines, et il engendra vingt-huit fils et soixante filles.
22 So then Rehoboam appointed Abijah son of Maacah as head, to be chief ruler among his brethren, —yea that he might make him king.
Roboam donna le premier rang à Abia, fils de Maacha, pour qu’il fût chef parmi ses frères, car il voulait le faire roi.
23 So he took heed, and dispersed all his sons throughout all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, unto all the fortified cities, and gave them food in abundance, —and asked a multitude of wives.
Il dispersa habilement tous ses fils dans toutes les contrées de Juda et de Benjamin, dans toutes les villes fortes; il leur fournit des vivres en abondance et demanda pour eux une multitude de femmes.
