1 Samuel 8
1 And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he appointed his sons judges to Israel;
Quando Samuel era velho, ele fez seus filhos juízes sobre Israel.
2 and the name of his firstborn son was, Joel, and the name of his second, Abijah, —they were judges in Beer-sheba.
Agora o nome de seu primogênito era Joel, e o nome de seu segundo, Abijah. Eles eram juízes em Beersheba.
3 Howbeit his sons walked not in his ways, but stooped to extortion, —and took bribes, and perverted judgment.
Seus filhos não caminhavam em seus caminhos, mas se afastaram após ganhos desonestos, aceitaram subornos e perverteram a justiça.
4 So then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, —and came unto Samuel, to Ramah;
Então todos os anciãos de Israel se reuniram e vieram a Samuel para Ramah.
5 and said unto him—Lo! thou, art old, and, thy sons, walk not in thy ways: Now, appoint for us a king to judge us, like all the nations.
Disseram-lhe: “Eis que você é velho, e seus filhos não andam em seus caminhos”. Agora fazei de nós um rei para julgar-nos como todas as nações”.
6 But the thing was displeasing in the eyes of Samuel, when they said, Give unto us a king to judge us. So Samuel prayed unto Yahweh.
Mas a coisa desagradou a Samuel quando disseram: “Dê-nos um rei para nos julgar”. Samuel rezou para Yahweh.
7 And Yahweh said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people, in all that they shall say unto thee, —for, not thee, have they rejected, but, me, have they rejected, from being king over them.
Yahweh disse a Samuel: “Escuta a voz do povo em tudo o que te dizem; pois eles não te rejeitaram, mas me rejeitaram como o rei sobre eles.
8 According to all the doings which they have done, from the day I brought them up out of Egypt, even until this day, in that they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so, are they doing even unto thee.
According a todas as obras que fizeram desde o dia em que os tirei do Egito até hoje, na medida em que me abandonaram e serviram a outros deuses, assim eles também o fazem a vocês”.
9 Now, therefore, hearken to their voice, —save that thou, enter protest, against them, and tell them the manner of the king who will reign over them.
Agora, portanto, ouçam a voz deles. Entretanto, protestareis solenemente contra eles, e lhes mostrareis o caminho do rei que reinará sobre eles”.
10 So then Samuel spake all the words of Yahweh unto the people, who were asking of him, a king.
Samuel contou todas as palavras de Javé ao povo que lhe pediu um rei.
11 And he said, This, will be the manner of the king who will reign over you, —Your sons, will he take and appoint for himself, as his charioteers and as his horsemen, and they shall run before his chariots;
Ele disse: “Este será o caminho do rei que reinará sobre vós: ele tomará vossos filhos e os nomeará como seus servos, para seus carros e para serem seus cavaleiros; e eles correrão diante de seus carros.
12 and he will appoint for himself, princes of thousands, and princes of fifties, —and to plough his fields, and to reap his harvest, and to make his weapons of war, and the instruments of his chariots;
Ele os nomeará para capitães de milhares e capitães de cinqüenta; e designará alguns para lavrar seu solo e colher sua colheita; e para fazer seus instrumentos de guerra e os instrumentos de suas carruagens.
13 And, your daughters, will he take, —as perfumers and as cooks, and as bakers;
Ele levará suas filhas para serem perfumistas, para serem cozinheiras e para serem padeiras.
14 And, your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, the best of them, will he take, and give to his servants;
Ele levará seus campos, suas vinhas e seus olivais, até mesmo seus melhores, e os dará a seus servos.
15 And, your seed, and your vineyards, will he tithe, and give to his courtiers and to his servants;
Levará um décimo de suas sementes e de seus vinhedos e os dará a seus oficiais e a seus servos.
16 And, your men-servants, and your maidservants, and your oxen, even the goodliest, and your asses, will he take, —and put them to his work;
Ele levará seus servos, suas servas, seus melhores jovens e seus burros, e os destinará a seu próprio trabalho.
17 Your flocks, will he tithe, —and, ye yourselves, shall become his servants.
He levará um décimo de seus rebanhos; e vocês serão seus servos.
18 Then will ye make outcry, in that day, because of your king whom ye have chosen for yourselves, —and Yahweh will not answer you, in that day.
Gritareis nesse dia por causa de vosso rei que escolhestes para vós; e Javé não vos responderá nesse dia”.
19 But the people refused to hearken unto the voice of Samuel, —and they said—Nay! but, a king, shall be over us:
Mas o povo se recusou a ouvir a voz de Samuel; e disseram: “Não, mas teremos um rei sobre nós,
20 so shall, even we, become like all the nations, —and our king shall judge us, and go forth before us, and fight our battles.
para que também possamos ser como todas as nações; e para que nosso rei nos julgue, e saia diante de nós, e lute nossas batalhas”.
21 And Samuel heard all the words of the people, —and spake them in the ears of Yahweh.
Samuel ouviu todas as palavras do povo, e as ensaiou aos ouvidos de Iavé.
22 And Yahweh said unto Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel: Go ye, every man to his own city.
Yahweh disse a Samuel: “Escute a voz deles e faça deles um rei”. Samuel disse aos homens de Israel: “Todos vão para sua própria cidade”.
