1 Samuel 8
1 And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he appointed his sons judges to Israel;
૧જયારે શમુએલ વૃદ્ધ થયો, ત્યારે તેણે પોતાના દીકરાઓને ઇઝરાયલ ઉપર ન્યાયાધીશો બનાવ્યાં.
2 and the name of his firstborn son was, Joel, and the name of his second, Abijah, —they were judges in Beer-sheba.
૨તેના જ્યેષ્ઠ દીકરાનું નામ યોએલ હતું, તેના બીજા દીકરાનું નામ અબિયા હતું. તેઓ બેરશેબામાં ન્યાયાધીશો હતા.
3 Howbeit his sons walked not in his ways, but stooped to extortion, —and took bribes, and perverted judgment.
૩તેના દીકરાઓ તેના માર્ગોમાં ચાલ્યા નહિ, પણ દ્રવ્યલોભ તરફ ભટકી ગયા. તેઓએ લાંચ લઈને ન્યાયપ્રક્રિયાને ભ્રષ્ટ કરી.
4 So then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, —and came unto Samuel, to Ramah;
૪પછી ઇઝરાયલના સર્વ વડીલો એકત્ર થઈને શમુએલ પાસે રામામાં આવ્યા.
5 and said unto him—Lo! thou, art old, and, thy sons, walk not in thy ways: Now, appoint for us a king to judge us, like all the nations.
૫તેઓએ તેને કહ્યું, “જો, તું વૃદ્ધ થયો છે અને તારા દીકરાઓ તારા માર્ગમાં ચાલતા નથી. સર્વ દેશોની જેમ અમારો ન્યાય કરવા સારુ અમને એક રાજા નીમી આપ.”
6 But the thing was displeasing in the eyes of Samuel, when they said, Give unto us a king to judge us. So Samuel prayed unto Yahweh.
૬પણ શમુએલ તેઓનાથી નાખુશ થયો, જયારે તેઓએ કહ્યું, “અમારો ન્યાય કરવા સારુ અમને રાજા આપ.” ત્યારે શમુએલે ઈશ્વરને પ્રાર્થના કરી.
7 And Yahweh said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people, in all that they shall say unto thee, —for, not thee, have they rejected, but, me, have they rejected, from being king over them.
૭ઈશ્વરે શમુએલને કહ્યું, “લોકો જે સર્વ બાબતો તને કહે છે તેમાં તેઓનું કહેવું તું સ્વીકાર; કેમ કે તેઓએ તને નકાર્યો નથી, પણ તેઓ પર હું રાજ કરું તે માટે મને નકાર્યો છે.
8 According to all the doings which they have done, from the day I brought them up out of Egypt, even until this day, in that they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so, are they doing even unto thee.
૮હું તેઓને મિસરમાંથી કાઢી લાવ્યો તે દિવસથી તે આજ સુધી જે સર્વ કામ તેઓએ કર્યા છે, મને છોડીને, અન્ય દેવોની સેવા કરી છે, તે પ્રમાણે તેઓ તારી સાથે પણ વર્તે છે.
9 Now, therefore, hearken to their voice, —save that thou, enter protest, against them, and tell them the manner of the king who will reign over them.
૯હવે તેઓનું સાંભળ; પણ તેઓને ગંભીરતાપૂર્વક ચેતવણી આપ અને તેમને જણાવ કે તેઓ પર કેવા પ્રકારના રાજા રાજ્ય કરશે.”
10 So then Samuel spake all the words of Yahweh unto the people, who were asking of him, a king.
૧૦જેથી શમુએલે તેને ઈશ્વરે જે કહ્યું તે જેઓ રાજા માંગતા હતા તેઓને જણાવ્યું.
11 And he said, This, will be the manner of the king who will reign over you, —Your sons, will he take and appoint for himself, as his charioteers and as his horsemen, and they shall run before his chariots;
૧૧તેણે કહ્યું, “જે રાજા તમારા પર શાસન કરશે તે આવો થશે. તે તમારા દીકરાઓને પકડીને પોતાના રથોને સારુ તેઓને નીમશે અને તેઓને પોતાના ઘોડેસવારો કરશે, તેના રથો આગળ તેઓ દોડશે.
12 and he will appoint for himself, princes of thousands, and princes of fifties, —and to plough his fields, and to reap his harvest, and to make his weapons of war, and the instruments of his chariots;
૧૨તે પોતાને માટે હજાર ઉપર અને પચાસ ઉપર મુકાદમ સરદારો નીમશે. અને કેટલાકને પોતાની જમીન ખેડવા, કેટલાકને તેના પાકને ભેગો કરવા, કેટલાકને યુદ્ધમાં હથિયાર બનાવવા અને તેના રથોનાં સાધનો બનાવવાના કામે લગાડશે.
13 And, your daughters, will he take, —as perfumers and as cooks, and as bakers;
૧૩તે તમારી દીકરીઓને પણ પકડીને મીઠાઈ બનાવનારી, રસોઈ બનાવવાના અને ભઠિયારણો થવા સારુ લઈ જશે.
14 And, your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, the best of them, will he take, and give to his servants;
૧૪તે તમારાં ફળદ્રુપ ખેતરો, તમારી દ્રાક્ષવાડીઓ અને જૈતૂનવાડીઓ લઈ લેશે અને તે પોતાના ચાકરોને આપશે.
15 And, your seed, and your vineyards, will he tithe, and give to his courtiers and to his servants;
૧૫તે તમારા અનાજમાંથી અને તમારી દ્રાક્ષવાડીઓમાંથી દસમો ભાગ લઈને પોતાના અધિકારીઓને તથા પોતાના ચાકરોને આપશે.
16 And, your men-servants, and your maidservants, and your oxen, even the goodliest, and your asses, will he take, —and put them to his work;
૧૬તે તમારા દાસોને, તમારી દાસીઓને, તમારા શ્રેષ્ઠ જુવાન પુરુષોને અને તમારા ગધેડાંઓને લઈ લેશે અને પોતાના કામે લગાડશે.
17 Your flocks, will he tithe, —and, ye yourselves, shall become his servants.
૧૭તે તમારા ઘેટાંનો દસમો ભાગ લઈ લેશે અને તમે તેના ગુલામો થશો.
18 Then will ye make outcry, in that day, because of your king whom ye have chosen for yourselves, —and Yahweh will not answer you, in that day.
૧૮તમારા પસંદ કરેલા રાજાને કારણે તમે મને તે દિવસે પોકારશો; પણ ઈશ્વર તે દિવસે તમને ઉત્તર આપશે નહિ.”
19 But the people refused to hearken unto the voice of Samuel, —and they said—Nay! but, a king, shall be over us:
૧૯પણ લોકોએ શમુએલ તરફથી આ બધું સંભાળવાની ના પાડી; તેઓએ કહ્યું, “એમ નહિ! અમારે તો અમારા ઉપર રાજા જોઈએ જ
20 so shall, even we, become like all the nations, —and our king shall judge us, and go forth before us, and fight our battles.
૨૦તેથી અમે પણ અન્ય પ્રજાઓના જેવા થઈએ, અમારો રાજા અમારો ન્યાય કરે, અમારી આગળ ચાલે અને અમારા યુદ્ધોમાં લડાઈ કરે.”
21 And Samuel heard all the words of the people, —and spake them in the ears of Yahweh.
૨૧ત્યારે શમુએલે લોકોનાં સર્વ શબ્દો સાંભળીને તેણે ધીમે અવાજે તે ઈશ્વરને કહી સંભળાવ્યા.
22 And Yahweh said unto Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel: Go ye, every man to his own city.
૨૨ઈશ્વરે શમુએલને કહ્યું, “તેઓની વાણી સાંભળ અને તેઓને સારુ રાજા ઠરાવી આપ.” તેથી શમુએલે ઇઝરાયલી માણસોને કહ્યું, “દરેક માણસ પોતપોતાના નગરમાં જાઓ.”
