1 Samuel 23
1 Then told they David, saying, —Lo! the Philistines are fighting against Keilah, and they are plundering the threshing-floors.
Or on avait fait ce rapport à David, en disant: Voilà, les Philistins font la guerre à Kéhila, et pillent les aires.
2 So David enquired of Yahweh, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And Yahweh said unto David—Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah.
Et David consulta l'Eternel en disant: Irai-je, et frapperai-je ces Philistins-là? et l'Eternel répondit à David: Va, et tu frapperas les Philistins, et tu délivreras Kéhila.
3 But the men of David said unto him, Lo! we, here, in Judah, are afraid, —how much more, then, if we go to Keilah, against the ranks of the Philistines?
Et les gens de David lui dirent: Voici, nous étant ici en Juda avons peur; que sera-ce donc quand nous serons allés à Kéhila contre les troupes rangées des Philistins?
4 So David yet again enquired if Yahweh, and Yahweh answered him, —and said—Arise, go down to Keilah, for I am about to deliver the Philistines into thy hand.
C'est pourquoi David consulta encore l'Eternel, et l'Eternel lui répondit, et dit: Lève-toi, descends à Kéhila, car je m'en vais livrer les Philistins entre tes mains.
5 David therefore went, with his men, to Keilah, and fought with the Philistines, and drave forth their cattle, and smote them, with a great smiting, so David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.
Alors David s'en alla avec ses gens à Kéhila, et combattit contre les Philistins, et emmena leur bétail, et fit un grand carnage [des Philistins]; ainsi David délivra les habitants de Kéhila.
6 Now it came to pass, when Abiathar, son of Ahimelech, fled unto David to Keilah, that he came down with, an ephod, in his hand.
Or il était arrivé que quand Abiathar fils d'Ahimélec s'était enfui vers David à Kéhila, l'Ephod lui était tombé entre les mains.
7 And, when it was told Saul that David had entered Keilah, Saul said—God hath given him over into my hand, for he hath shut himself in by entering into a city with folding doors and bar.
Et on rapporta à Saül que David était venu à Kéhila; et Saül dit: Dieu l'a livré entre mes mains; car il s'est enfermé en entrant dans une ville qui a des portes et des barres.
8 So Saul summoned all the people to war, —to go down to Keilah, to besiege David, and his men.
Et Saül assembla à cri public tout le peuple pour [aller à la] guerre, [et] descendre à Kéhila, afin d'assiéger David et ses gens.
9 And David ascertained that, against him, Saul was contriving mischief, —so he said unto Abiathar the priest, Bring hither the ephod.
Mais David ayant su que Saül lui machinait ce mal, dit au Sacrificateur Abiathar: Mets l'Ephod.
10 Then said David: O Yahweh, God of Israel, thy servant, hath heard, that Saul is seeking to come unto Keilah, —to destroy the city, for my sake:
Puis David dit: Ô Eternel! Dieu d'Israël! ton serviteur a appris comme une chose certaine, que Saül cherche d'entrer dans Kéhila, pour détruire la ville à cause de moi.
11 Will the owners of Keilah surrender me into his hand? Will Saul come down, as thy servant hath heard? O Yahweh, God of Israel, I pray thee, tell thy servant. And Yahweh said—He will come down.
Les Seigneurs de Kéhila me livreront-ils entre ses mains? Saül descendra-t-il, comme ton serviteur l'a ouï dire? Ô Eternel! Dieu d'Israël! je te prie, enseigne-le à ton serviteur. Et l'Eternel répondit: Il descendra.
12 Then said David, Will the owners of Keilah surrender me and my men, into the hand of Saul? And Yahweh said—They will surrender.
David dit encore: Les Seigneurs de Kéhila me livreront-ils, moi et mes gens, entre les mains de Saül? Et l'Eternel répondit: Ils t'y livreront.
13 Then arose David and his men, about six hundred, and went forth out of Keilah, and went to and fro, whithersoever they could, —and, unto Saul, it was told that David had escaped out of Keilah, so he forbare to go forth.
Alors David se leva, et environ six cents hommes avec lui, et ils sortirent de Kéhila, et s'en allèrent où ils purent; et on rapporta à Saül que David s'était sauvé de Kéhila: c'est pourquoi il cessa de marcher.
14 Then David abode in the wilderness, in the fortresses, and he abode in the hill country, in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him continually, but God delivered him not into his hand.
Et David demeura au désert dans des lieux forts, et il se tint en une montagne au désert de Ziph. Et Saül le cherchait tous les jours, mais Dieu ne le livra point entre ses mains.
15 Then David saw that Saul had come out to seek his life, David, being in the wilderness of Ziph, in the thicket.
David donc ayant vu que Saül était sorti pour chercher sa vie, se tint au désert de Ziph en la forêt.
16 So Jonathan, Saul’s son, arose and went unto David in the thicket, —and strengthened his hand in God;
Alors Jonathan fils de Saül se leva, et s'en alla en la forêt vers David, et fortifia ses mains en Dieu.
17 and said unto him, —Do not fear, for the hand of Saul my father shall not find thee, but, thou, shalt become king over Israel, and, I, shall be, next, unto thee, yea and, Saul my father, knoweth this.
Et lui dit: Ne crains point; car Saül mon père ne t'attrapera point, mais tu régneras sur Israël, et moi je serai le second après toi; et même Saül mon père le sait bien.
18 And they two solemnised a covenant before Yahweh, —and David remained in the thicket, but, Jonathan, departed to his own house.
Ils traitèrent donc eux deux alliance devant l'Eternel; et David demeura dans la forêt, mais Jonathan retourna en sa maison.
19 Then came up the Ziphites unto Saul in Gibeah, saying, —Is not David hiding himself with us, in the strongholds in the thicket, in the hill of Hachilah, which is on the right of Jeshimon?
Or les Ziphiens montèrent vers Saül à Guibha, et lui dirent: David ne se tient-il pas caché parmi nous, dans des lieux forts, dans la forêt, au coteau de Hakila, qui est à main droite de Jésimon?
20 Now, therefore, according to all the desire of thy soul O king, to come down, come! and, ours, [will it be] to surrender him into the hand of the king.
Maintenant donc, ô Roi! si tu souhaites de descendre, descends, et ce sera à nous à le livrer entre les mains du Roi.
21 Then said Saul, Blessed, be ye, of Yahweh, —because ye have taken pity upon me.
Et Saül dit: Bénis soyez-vous de par l'Eternel, de ce que vous avez eu pitié de moi.
22 Go, I pray you, make ready yet further, and get to know and see his place, where may be his track, who hath seen him there, —for it hath been said unto me, Cunning indeed, is, he!
Allez donc, je vous prie, et préparez toutes choses, et sachez, et reconnaissez le lieu, où il fait sa retraite, [et] qui l'aura vu là; car on m'a dit, qu'il est fort rusé.
23 See, then, and get to know—of all the hiding places, where he hideth himself, and return unto me, for certainty, then will I go with you, —and it shall be, if he is in the land, that I will search him out, through all the thousands of Judah.
Reconnaissez donc et sachez dans laquelle de toutes ces retraites il se tient caché, puis retournez vers moi quand vous en serez assurés, et j'irai avec vous; et s'il est au pays, je le chercherai soigneusement parmi tous les milliers de Juda.
24 So they arose and departed to Ziph, before Saul, —but, David and his men, were in the wilderness of Maon, in the Arabah, to the right of Jeshimon.
Ils se levèrent donc et s'en allèrent à Ziph devant Saül; mais David et ses gens étaient au désert de Mahon, en la campagne, à main droite de Jésimon.
25 Then Saul and his men departed, to seek [him]; but it had been told David, and he had gone down the cliff, and taken up his abode in the wilderness of Maon, —and when Saul had, heard it, he pursued David in the wilderness of Maon.
Ainsi Saül et ses gens s'en allèrent le chercher; et on le rapporta à David: et il descendit dans la roche, et demeura au désert de Mahon: ce que Saül ayant appris, il poursuivit David au désert de Mahon.
26 And Saul went on this side of the mountain, and, David and his men, on that side of the mountain, —wherefore David became hurried, to get away from the presence of Saul, but, Saul and his men, were surrounding David and his men, to capture then:
Et Saül allait de deçà le côté de la montagne, et David et ses gens allaient de delà, à l'autre côté de la montagne; et David se hâtait autant qu'il pouvait de s'en aller de devant Saül, mais Saül et ses gens environnèrent David et ses gens pour les prendre.
27 when, a messenger, came unto Saul, saying, —Haste thee and come! for the Philistines have spread over the land.
Sur cela un messager vint à Saül, en disant: Hâte-toi, et viens, car les Philistins se sont jetés sur le pays.
28 Then returned Saul from pursuing David, and departed to meet the Philistines, —for which cause, they called that place Sela-hammahlekoth ["the Cliff of Separation"].
Ainsi Saül s'en retourna de la poursuite de David, et s'en alla au devant des Philistins: c'est pourquoi on a appelé ce lieu-là Sélah-hammahlekoth.
29 And David went up from thence, —and abode in the strongholds of En-gedi.
Puis David monta de là, et demeura dans les lieux forts de Hen-guédi.
