< 1 Samuel 2 >
1 Then prayed Hannah, and said, My heart hath leaped for joy in Yahweh, My horn is exalted in Yahweh, My mouth is opened wide, o’er my foes, Because I rejoice in thy salvation.
Pea naʻe lotu ʻa ʻAna, ʻo pehē, “ʻOku fiefia hoku loto ʻia Sihova, ʻoku fakahikihiki hoku mālohi ʻia Sihova; kuo mafaʻa hoku ngutu ki hoku ngaahi fili; ko e meʻa ʻi heʻeku fiefia ʻi hoʻo fakamoʻui.
2 There is none holy like Yahweh, Nay! there, is none, except Thee, Nor, is, there a rock, like our God.
ʻOku ʻikai ha tokotaha ʻoku māʻoniʻoni ʻo hangē ko Sihova: he ʻoku ʻikai ha tokotaha mo koe: pea ʻoku ʻikai foki ha makatuʻu ʻo hangē ko hotau ʻOtua.
3 Do not multiply words, so loftily—loftily, Nor let arrogance proceed from your mouth, —For, a GOD of knowledge, is Yahweh, And, for himself, are great doings made firm.
ʻOua naʻa toe talanoa fakafiefielahi faufau pehē; ʻoua naʻa hā mai ʻae lea mālohi mei ho ngutu: he ko e ʻOtua ʻoe loto ʻa Sihova, pea ʻoku ʻekeʻi ʻe ia ʻae ngaahi faianga.
4 The bow of the mighty, is dismayed, —While, the fainting, are girded with strength;
Kuo fesiʻi ʻae ngaahi kaufana ʻae kau tangata mālohi, pea ko kinautolu naʻe tūkia kuo nonoʻo ʻaki ʻae mālohi.
5 The sated, have, for bread, taken hire, But, the famished, have left off their toil, —So that, the barren, hath given birth unto seven, While, she that hath many sons, languisheth:
Ko kinautolu naʻe mākona kuo nau fakamoʻua ʻakinautolu ke ngāue ki he meʻakai; pea kuo ngata ʻakinautolu naʻe fiekaia: pea kuo fanauʻi ʻae toko fitu ʻe he paʻa; pea ko ia kuo tokolahi ʻene fānau kuo hoko ʻo vaivai.
6 Yahweh, doth kill, and make alive, —Taketh down to hades, and bringeth up: (Sheol )
ʻOku tāmateʻi ʻe Sihova, pea ne fakamoʻui: ʻoku ne ʻohifo ki he faʻitoka, pea ʻoku ne toe ʻo hake. (Sheol )
7 Yahweh, maketh poor, and enricheth, —Layeth low, yea exalteth;
ʻOku fakamasiva ʻe Sihova, pea ne fakamaʻumeʻaʻi: ʻoku ne fakamoʻulaloa, mo ne hiki ki ʻolunga.
8 Raiseth, from the dust, the poor, From the dunghill, uplifteth the needy, To give them a dwelling with nobles, And, a throne of glory, to make them inherit. For, to Yahweh, belong the pillars of the earth, And he setteth thereon the habitable world.
ʻOku ne hiki hake ʻae masiva mei he efu, ʻo fakahikihiki ʻae faʻa kole mei he tuʻunga veve, ke fakanofo ʻakinautolu mo e houʻeiki, pea ke ne ngaohi ʻakinautolu kenau maʻu ʻae nofoʻa fakaʻeiʻeiki: he ko e ngaahi pou ʻo māmani ʻoku ʻo Sihova, pea kuo ne fokotuʻu ʻa māmani ki ai.
9 The feet of his loving ones, he doth guard, But, the lawless, in darkness shall be silent, —For, by strength, shall no man prevail.
ʻE tauhi ʻe ia ʻae vaʻe ʻo ʻene kau māʻoniʻoni, pea ʻe longo pe ʻae kau angakovi ʻi he poʻuli; koeʻuhi ʻe ʻikai lavaʻi ha meʻa ʻe ha tangata ʻi he mālohi.
10 As for Yahweh, —they shall be shattered who contend with him, Over him, in the heavens will he thunder, Yahweh, will judge the ends of the earth, —That he may give strength to his King, And exalt the horn of his Anointed One.
ʻE fesifesiʻi ʻae ngaahi fili ʻo Sihova; ʻe mana ʻe ia kiate kinautolu mei langi: “ʻE fakamaau ʻe Sihova ʻae ngaahi ngataʻanga ʻo māmani; pea ʻe foaki ʻe ia ʻae mālohi ki heʻene tuʻi, pea ne fakahikihiki ʻae mālohi ʻo ia kuo ne pani.”
11 Then went Elkanah to Ramah, unto his own house, —but, the boy, remained ministering unto Yahweh, before Eli the priest.
Pea naʻe ʻalu ʻa ʻElikena ki hono fale ki Lama. Pea naʻe tauhi ʻa Sihova ʻe he tamasiʻi ʻi he ʻao ʻo Ilai ko e taulaʻeiki.
12 Now, the sons of Eli, were abandoned men, —they knew not Yahweh.
Ka ko eni ko e fānau ʻoe angakovi ʻae ongo foha ʻo Ilai; naʻe ʻikai te na ʻilo ʻa Sihova.
13 And, the custom of the priests with the people, was—when any man offered a sacrifice, then would come the priests young man, as the flesh was boiling, with a three-pronged fork in his hand;
Pea ko e anga naʻe fai ʻe he taulaʻeiki ki he kakai, naʻe pehē, ʻi he ʻatu ʻe ha tangata ha feilaulau, naʻe haʻu ʻae tamaioʻeiki ʻae taulaʻeiki ʻi he kei haka ʻae kakano, mo e meʻa huhu matatolu ʻi hono nima;
14 and would strike it into the boiler, or into the trough, or into the kettle, or into the pot, all that the fork would bring up, the priest took for himself. Thus and thus, used they to do unto all Israel, who came thither, in Shiloh.
Pea naʻa ne velo ia ki he fakapaku, pe ko e kulo, pe ha meʻa haka luoluo, pea ʻilonga ʻaia naʻe matoʻo hake ʻe he huhu naʻe ʻave ia ʻe he taulaʻeiki maʻana. Pea naʻe pehē ʻenau fai ʻi Sailo ki he kakai ʻIsileli kotoa pē naʻe ʻalu ki ai.
15 Also, before any could make perfume with the fat, the priests young man would come in and say to the person who was sacrificing, Come! give flesh for the priest’s roastings, —for he will not take of thee boiled flesh—only raw.
Pea ʻi he teʻeki ai tutu foki ʻae ngako, naʻe haʻu ʻae tamaioʻeiki ʻae taulaʻeiki, ʻo ne pehē ki he tangata ʻoku fai ʻae feilaulau, “Tuku mai ʻae kakano ke tunu maʻae taulaʻeiki; koeʻuhi ʻe ʻikai te ne kai kakano haka ʻiate koe, ka ko e kanomate.”
16 And, if the man said to him, Let them at least, make incense, at once with the fat, then take thou as much as thy soul craveth, Then said he to him, But, at once, shalt thou give it; or else, I will take it by force.
Pea kapau naʻe pehēange ʻe ha tangata kiate ia, “ʻOua naʻa nau taʻofi kae tutu leva ʻae ngako, pea ke toki ʻave ʻa ia, kotoa pē ʻoku ke loto ki ai; naʻe tali pehē leva ʻe ia ia, ‘ʻIkai;’ ka ke tuku mai leva ia kiate au: pea kapau ʻe ʻikai, te u ʻave fakamālohi ia.”
17 And so it was, that, the sin of the young men, was exceeding great, before Yahweh, —for men scorned the offerings of Yahweh.
Ko ia naʻe lahi ʻaupito ʻae angahala ʻae ongo talavou ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova: he naʻe fehiʻa ʻae kakai ki he feilaulau kia Sihova.
18 But, as for Samuel, he was ministering before Yahweh, —a boy girded with an ephod of linen.
Ka naʻe tauhi ʻe Samuela ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova, ko e tamasiʻi kuo nonoʻo ʻaki ʻae ʻefoti ʻoe tupenu lelei.
19 Also, a little robe, used his mother to make for him, and bring it up to him, from year to year, —when she came up with her husband, to offer the sacrifice of the year.
Pea naʻe ngaohi foki ʻe heʻene faʻē ʻae kofutuʻa siʻi, ʻo ʻomi kiate ia ʻi he taʻu kotoa pē, ʻi heʻene ʻalu hake mo hono husepāniti ke ʻatu ʻae feilaulau ʻoe taʻu.
20 And Eli used to bless Elkanah and his wife, and to say—Yahweh give thee seed of this woman, instead of the loan that hath been lent unto Yahweh. So they went their way to his own place.
Pea naʻe tāpuaki ʻe Ilai ʻa ʻElikena mo hono uaifi, ʻo ne pehē, “Ke ʻatu ʻe Sihova kiate koe ʻae hako ʻi he fefine ni ʻi he kole ni ʻaia kuo tuku kia Sihova.” Pea naʻa na ō ki hona ʻapi.
21 And Yahweh visited Hannah, and she conceived, and bare three sons, and two daughters. Thus did the boy Samuel grow up with Yahweh.
Pea naʻe ʻaʻahi ʻa Sihova kia ʻAna, ko ia naʻa ne feitama, pea ne fāʻeleʻi ʻae tama ʻe toko tolu mo e taʻahine ʻe toko ua. Pea naʻe tupu pē ʻae tamasiʻi ko Samuela ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova.
22 Now, Eli, was very old, —but he used to hear all that his sons did unto all Israel, and how they even lay with the women who did service, at the opening of the tent of meeting.
Pea kuo motuʻa lahi ʻa Ilai, ʻo ne fanongo ki he meʻa kotoa pē naʻe fai ʻe hono ongo foha ki ʻIsileli kotoa pē; mo ʻenau mohe mo e kau fefine naʻe fakataha ʻi he matapā ʻoe fale fehikitaki ʻoe kakai.
23 So he said to them, Wherefore should ye do such things as these? for I keep hearing of your wicked doings, from all these people.
Pea naʻe pehē ʻe ia kiate kinaua. “Ko e hā ʻoku mo fai ai ʻae ngaahi meʻa pehē? He ʻoku ou fanongo ki hoʻomou fai angakovi ʻi he kakai ni kotoa pē.
24 Nay, my sons! for it is no good report that I do hear: leading into transgression the people of Yahweh.
ʻOua, ʻe hoku ongo foha; he ʻoku ʻikai ko e ongolelei ʻoku ou ongoʻi: ʻoku mou fakalanga ʻae lāunga ʻi he kakai ʻo Sihova.
25 If one man sin against another, God will interpose, but, if, against Yahweh, a man sin, who will intercede, for him? But they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, for Yahweh was pleased to put them to death.
26 But, the boy Samuel, went on growing in stature, and in favour, —both with Yahweh, and also with men.
Pea naʻe tupu pē ʻae tamasiʻi ko Samuela, pea naʻe ʻofeina ia ʻia Sihova, pea mo e kakai foki.
27 And there came a man of God, unto Eli, —and said unto him—Thus, saith Yahweh, I, did indeed reveal myself, unto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt, as servants unto the house of Pharaoh;
Pea naʻe haʻu ʻae tangata ʻoe ʻOtua kia Ilai, ʻo ne pehē kiate ia, “ʻOku pehē mai ʻa Sihova, ʻIkai naʻaku hā atu au ki he fale ʻo hoʻo tamai ʻi heʻenau ʻi ʻIsipite ʻi he fale ʻo Felo?
28 choosing him out of all the tribes of Israel unto myself, to minister as priest, to offer upon mine altar, to perfume with incense to bear an ephod before me, —Therefore gave I unto the house of thy father all the altar-flames of the sons of Israel.
Pea ʻikai naʻaku fili ia mei he ngaahi faʻahinga ʻo ʻIsileli ke hoko ko hoku taulaʻeiki, ke fai ʻae ngāue ʻi heʻeku feilaulauʻanga, ke tutu ʻae meʻa namu kakala, pea ke kofuʻaki ʻae ʻefoti ʻi hoku ʻao? Pea ʻikai naʻaku foaki ki he fale ʻo hoʻo tamai, ʻae ngaahi feilaulau naʻe ngaohi ʻaki ʻae afi ʻe he fānau kotoa pē ʻa ʻIsileli?
29 Wherefore have ye been kicking at my sacrifices, and my presents, which I commanded, to serve for a home, —and shouldest have honoured thy sons more than me: fattening yourselves, with the first of every present of Israel, before me?
Ko e hā ʻoku mou ʻakahi ai ki heʻeku feilaulau, mo e meʻa ʻatu, ʻaia kuo u fekauʻi ʻi hoku nofoʻanga; mo ke fakaʻapaʻapa lahi hake ki ho ongo foha ʻiate au, ke fakasino kimoutolu ʻaki ʻae lelei lahi ʻoe ngaahi feilaulau ʻa ʻIsileli ko hoku kakai?
30 Hence, the oracle of Yahweh God of Israel, I, said, that, thy house, and the house of thy father, should go to and fro in my presence, unto times age-abiding: But, now, (is the oracle of Yahweh)—Be it far from me! For, them who honour me, will I honour, but, they who despise me, shall be lightly esteemed.
“Ko ia ʻoku pehē ai ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli, ‘Naʻaku pehē moʻoni, ko ho fale mo e fale ʻo hoʻo tamai, ʻe ʻaʻeva ʻi hoku ʻao ʻo taʻengata: ka ko eni, ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova, Ke mamaʻo ia ʻiate au; he ko kinautolu ʻoku fakaʻapaʻapa kiate au, te u fakahikihikiʻi ʻakinautolu, pea ko kinautolu ʻoku manukiʻi au ʻe ʻikai te u tokangaʻi.
31 Lo! days are coming, when I will hew off thine arm, and the arm of the house of thy father, —that there shall be no elder in thy house;
Vakai, ʻe hoko ʻae ngaahi ʻaho, te u motuhi ai ho nima, pea mo e nima ʻoe fale ʻo hoʻo tamai, pea ʻe ʻikai ai ha tangata ʻe motuʻa ʻi ho fale.
32 But thou shalt descry distress at home, in all that shall gladden Israel, —and there shall not be an elder in thine own house, all the days.
Pea te ke mamata ki he fakamamahiʻi ʻo hoku nofoʻanga, neongo ʻae lelei kotoa pē kuo foaki ki ʻIsileli: pea ʻe ʻikai ha tangata ʻe motuʻa ʻi ho fale ʻo taʻengata.
33 But, any man of thine whom I may not cut off from mine altar, it shall be—to consume his eyes, and grieve his soul; Howbeit, all the multitude of thy house, shall die, by the sword of men.
Pea ko e tangata ʻoʻou, ʻaia ʻe ʻikai te u motuhi mei hoku feilaulauʻanga, ʻe hoko ia ke fakakui ho mata, mo fakamamahi ki ho loto: pea ko ia kotoa pē ʻe tupu ʻi ho fale tenau mate ʻi heʻenau kei fatu tangata.
34 And, this, for thee is the sign, which shall come upon thy two sons, upon Hophni and Phinehas, —In one day, shall they, both of them, die;
Pea ko e fakaʻilonga eni kiate koe, ʻaia ʻe hoko ki ho ongo foha, ʻa Hofini mo Finiasi; ʻe mate ʻakinaua ʻi he ʻaho pē taha.
35 And I will raise me up a faithful priest, According to that which is in my heart and in my soul, will he do; Therefore will I build for him an assured house, and he shall go to and fro in presence of mine Anointed, all the days.
Pea te u fokotuʻu moʻoku ʻae taulaʻeiki angatonu, ʻaia te ne fai ʻo fakatatau mo ia ʻoku ʻi hoku loto mo hoku ʻatamai: pea te u langa moʻona ʻae fale ke maʻu; pea ʻe ʻeveʻeva ia ʻi he ʻao ʻo ia kuo u pani ʻo taʻengata.
36 And it shall be, that, any that is left in thy house, shall come bowing down to him for a small coin of silver, and for a cake of bread, and shall say: Appoint me, I pray thee, to one of the priestly offices, that I may eat a morsel of bread.
