1 Samuel 17
1 And the Philistines gathered together their hosts, unto battle, and they were gathered together unto Socoh, which belongeth unto Judah, —and they encamped between Socoh and Azekah in Ephes-dammim;
੧ਹੁਣ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਲੜਾਈ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਸੋਕੋਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋਏ ਅਤੇ ਸੋਕੋਹ ਅਤੇ ਅਜ਼ੇਕਾਹ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਅਫ਼ਸ-ਦੰਮੀਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਡੇਰੇ ਲਾਏ।
2 and, Saul and the men of Israel, gathered themselves together, and encamped in the vale of Elah, and set the army in array against the Philistines.
੨ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਏਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਘਾਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਡੇਰੇ ਲਾਏ ਅਤੇ ਲੜਾਈ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਕਤਾਰਾਂ ਬੰਨ੍ਹੀਆਂ।
3 And, the Philistines, were standing near the hill on one side, and, the Israelites, were standing near the hill on the other side, —while, the valley, was between them.
੩ਇੱਕ ਪਾਸੇ ਦੇ ਪਰਬਤ ਉੱਤੇ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਦੇ ਪਰਬਤ ਉੱਤੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਇੱਕ ਘਾਟੀ ਸੀ।
4 And there came forth a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, Goliath, his name, from Gath, —his height, six cubits and a span;
੪ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਡੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਗਾਥੀ ਗੋਲਿਅਥ ਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਸੂਰਮਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਿੱਕਲਿਆ। ਉਹ ਦਾ ਕੱਦ ਛੇ ਹੱਥ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਗਿੱਠ ਉੱਚਾ ਸੀ।
5 with a helmet of bronze on his head, and, with a scaly coat of mail, was he clad, —the weight of the coat, being five thousand shekels of bronze;
੫ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਪਿੱਤਲ ਦਾ ਟੋਪ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਸੰਜੋ ਉਹ ਨੇ ਪਹਿਨੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ ਜੋ ਤੋਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਡੇਢ ਮਣ ਪਿੱਤਲ ਦੀ ਸੀ।
6 and, greaves of bronze, on his feet, —and, a javelin of bronze, between his shoulders;
੬ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਲੱਤਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਿੱਤਲ ਦੇ ਕਵਚ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਮੋਢਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਪਿੱਤਲ ਦੀ ਬਰਛੀ ਸੀ।
7 and, the shaft of his spear, was like a weaver’s beam, and, the flashing head of his spear, was six hundred shekels of iron, —and, his shield-bearer, was coming on before him.
੭ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਬਰਛੇ ਦਾ ਡੰਡਾ ਜੁਲਾਹੇ ਦੀ ਤੁਰ ਵਰਗਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਬਰਛੇ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਸਾਢੇ ਸੱਤ ਸੇਰ ਲੋਹੇ ਦਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਢਾਲ਼ ਚੁੱਕ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਸੀ।
8 And he took his stand, and cried unto the ranks of Israel, and said unto them, Wherefore should ye come out, to set in array for battle? Am not, I, a Philistine, while, ye, are servants unto Saul? Choose you a man, and let him come down unto me:
੮ਸੋ ਉਹ ਨਿੱਕਲ ਕੇ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਦਲਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਉਹ ਨੇ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਕੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ਤੁਸੀਂ ਲੜਾਈ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਕਿਉਂ ਕਤਾਰ ਬੰਨ੍ਹੀ ਹੈ? ਕੀ, ਮੈਂ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਤੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਦੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਹੀਂ? ਸੋ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਲਈ ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਚੁਣੋ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਵੇ।
9 If he prevail in fighting with me, and smite me, then will we become your servants, —but, if, I, prevail over him, and smite him, then shall ye become our servants, and serve, us.
੯ਜੇ ਕਦੀ ਉਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਲੜਨ ਜੋਗਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਲਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਗ਼ੁਲਾਮ ਬਣਾਂਗੇ ਪਰ ਜੇ ਕਦੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਤਕੜਾ ਹੋਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਲਵਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸਾਡੇ ਗ਼ੁਲਾਮ ਹੋਵੋਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਡੀ ਗ਼ੁਲਾਮੀ ਕਰੋਗੇ।
10 And the Philistine said—I, reproach the ranks of Israel, this day, —give me a man, that we may fight together.
੧੦ਫੇਰ ਉਹ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਬੋਲਿਆ, ਅੱਜ ਮੈਂ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਦਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲਲਕਾਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਠਹਿਰਾ ਲਓ ਜੋ ਅਸੀਂ ਆਪਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਯੁੱਧ ਕਰੀਏ।
11 When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and feared exceedingly.
੧੧ਜਿਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣੀਆਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਘਬਰਾ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਡਰ ਗਏ।
12 Now, David, was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehem-judah, whose, name, was Jesse, and, who, had eight sons, —and, the man, in the days of Saul was old, advanced in years.
੧੨ਦਾਊਦ ਬੈਤਲਹਮ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦੇ ਅਫਰਾਥੀ ਯੱਸੀ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਅੱਠ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਦੇ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗ ਅਤੇ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।
13 And the three eldest sons of Jesse had followed Saul to the battle, —and, the names of his three sons who went into the battle, were Eliab the firstborn, and, the next to him, Abinadab, and, the third, Shammah.
੧੩ਯੱਸੀ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਵੱਡੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਲੜਾਈ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਦੇ ਮਗਰ ਜਾ ਲੱਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਜੋ ਲੜਨ ਗਏ ਸਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਪਹਿਲੌਠੇ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਅਲੀਆਬ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਅਬੀਨਾਦਾਬ ਅਤੇ ਤੀਜੇ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸ਼ੰਮਾਹ ਸੀ।
14 But, as for David, he, was the youngest, —and, the three eldest, followed Saul;
੧੪ਦਾਊਦ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਛੋਟਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਵੱਡੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਦੇ ਮਗਰ ਲੱਗੇ
15 whereas, David, kept going and returning from Saul, —to tend his father’s sheep at Bethlehem.
੧੫ਪਰ ਦਾਊਦ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਵੱਖਰਾ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਦੇ ਇੱਜੜ ਨੂੰ ਬੈਤਲਹਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਚਰਾਉਣ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।
16 And the Philistine drew near morning and evening, —and presented himself forty days.
੧੬ਸੋ ਉਹ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਸਵੇਰੇ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਨੇੜੇ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਸੀ। ਚਾਲੀਆਂ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਤੱਕ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ, ਅੱਗੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ।
17 And Jesse said unto David his son, Take, I pray thee, unto thy brethren—this ephah of parched corn, and these ten loaves, —and run to the camp unto thy brethren;
੧੭ਫੇਰ ਯੱਸੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਇਹ ਪੰਜ ਸੇਰ ਭੁੰਨੇ ਹੋਏ ਦਾਣੇ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਦਸ ਰੋਟੀਆਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਰਾਵਾਂ ਕੋਲ ਛਾਉਣੀ ਵੱਲ ਜਾ।
18 also these ten slices of soft cheese, shalt thou take to the captain of their thousand, —and, as for thy brethren, give good heed to their welfare, their pledge, also shalt thou receive.
੧੮ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਦਸ ਟਿੱਕੀਆਂ ਪਨੀਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੂਬੇਦਾਰ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਲੈ ਜਾ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਰਾਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਹਾਲ ਚਾਲ ਵੇਖ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੁਝ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨੀ ਲੈ ਆ।
19 Now, Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, were in the vale of Elah, ready to fight with the Philistines.
੧੯ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਸਭ ਲੋਕ ਏਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਘਾਟੀ ਚ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਲੜਦੇ ਪਏ ਸਨ।
20 So then David rose up early in the morning, and entrusted the sheep to a keeper, and took up [the provisions] and went his way, as Jesse had commanded him, —and came into the circular rampart, as, the force, was going forth into the ranks, and shouted for the fight.
੨੦ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਸਵੇਰ ਦੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ਭੇਡਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਖੇ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਛੱਡਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਯੱਸੀ ਨੇ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ ਸੀ ਵਸਤਾਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਤੁਰ ਪਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਦਲ ਲੜਨ ਲਈ ਨਿੱਕਲਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਲੜਾਈ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਲਲਕਾਰਦਾ ਸੀ ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਉਹ ਮੋਰਚੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਗਿਆ।
21 So Israel and the Philistines set in array for battle, army against army.
੨੧ਅਤੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਲ ਦੀਆਂ ਆਹਮੋ-ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਕਤਾਰਾਂ ਬੰਨ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ।
22 Then David entrusted the provisions that were upon him to the care of the keeper of the stores, and ran unto the ranks, —and came and asked for the welfare of his brethren.
੨੨ਸੋ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਵਸਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਰੱਖੀਆਂ ਜੋ ਸਮਾਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਖੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ, ਅਤੇ ਆਪ ਦਲ ਵੱਲ ਦੌੜ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਰਾਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਪੁੱਛੀ।
23 Now, as he was speaking with them, lo! the champion coming up, Goliath the Philistine, by name, of Gath, [coming up] out of the ranks of the Philistines, and he spake according to these words, —and David heard [them].
੨੩ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਅਜੇ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੀ ਸੀ ਜੋ ਵੇਖੋ, ਉਹ ਜ਼ੋਰਾਵਰ ਗਾਥੀ ਗੋਲਿਅਥ ਨਾਮ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਕਤਾਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਨਿੱਕਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਸੁਣੀਆਂ।
24 Now, all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from before him, and feared exceedingly.
੨੪ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਸਭ ਲੋਕ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੋਂ ਭੱਜੇ ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਡਰ ਗਏ
25 And the men of Israel said—Have ye seen this man that is coming up? For, to reproach Israel, is he coming. So then it shall be, that, the man that shall smite him, the same, will the king enrich with great riches, and, his own daughter, will give him, and, his father’s house, will he make free in Israel.
੨੫ਤਦ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਜੋ ਨਿੱਕਲਿਆ ਹੈ। ਸੱਚ-ਮੁੱਚ ਇਹ ਤਾਂ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਰਮਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਭਈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰੇਗਾ ਤਾਂ ਰਾਜਾ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਡੇ ਧਨ ਨਾਲ ਧਨਵਾਨ ਕਰੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਧੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਆਹ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਦੇ ਟੱਬਰ ਨੂੰ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਜ਼ਾਦ ਕਰੇਗਾ।
26 Then spake David unto the men that were standing by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that shall smite yonder Philistine, and so shall take away reproach from off Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he hath reproached the ranks of a Living God?
੨੬ਤਦ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦੁਆਲੇ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ ਕਿ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰੇ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਕਲੰਕ ਨੂੰ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਉੱਤੋਂ ਹਟਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਮਿਲੇਗਾ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਇਹ ਅਸੁੰਨਤੀ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਹੈ ਕੌਣ ਜੋ ਜਿਉਂਦੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਦਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਰਮਿੰਦਾ ਕਰੇ?
27 And the people answered him, according to this word saying, —So, shall it be done to the man that shall smite him.
੨੭ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕਿ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰੇ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਮਿਲੇਗਾ।
28 Now Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men, —then was kindled the anger of Eliab against David, and he said—Wherefore is it that thou hast come down? and to whom hast thou entrusted those few sheep in the wilderness? I, know thy pride, and the foolishness of thy heart, for, to see the battle, hast thou come down.
੨੮ਉਸੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਰਾ ਅਲੀਆਬ ਨੇ ਉਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣੀਆਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਲੀਆਬ ਦਾ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਦਾਊਦ ਉੱਤੇ ਭੜਕਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਬੋਲਿਆ, ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਇੱਥੇ ਆਇਆ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਉੱਥੇ ਉਜਾੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਥੋੜੀਆਂ ਜਿਹੀਆਂ ਭੇਡਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਸ ਦੇ ਭਰੋਸੇ ਛੱਡ ਆਇਆ ਹੈਂ? ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਘਮੰਡ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਬੁਰਿਆਈ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਤੂੰ ਲੜਾਈ ਵੇਖਣ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਇਆ ਹੈਂ
29 And David said, What have I done, now? Was there not, a cause?
੨੯ਦਾਊਦ ਬੋਲਿਆ, ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣ ਕੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ? ਕੀ, ਮੈਂ ਗੱਲ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ?।
30 Then turned he from him unto another, and said—according to this word, —and the people returned him an answer, like the first.
੩੦ਉਹ ਉਸ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਦੀ ਵੱਲ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹੋ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਫੇਰ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ। ਸੋ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੀ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
31 And the words which David spake were overheard, —and, when they told them before Saul, he summoned him.
੩੧ਅਤੇ ਜਦ ਉਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਜੋ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਆਖੀਆਂ ਸਨ ਸੁਣੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਕੋਲ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੋਲ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ।
32 And David said unto Saul, Let not the heart of my lord fail, because of him, —thy servant, will go, and fight with this Philistine.
੩੨ਤਦ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਰਕੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਨਾ ਘਬਰਾਵੇ। ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਦਾਸ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਲੜੇਗਾ।
33 And Saul said unto David—Thou art not able to go against this Philistine, to fight with him, —for, a youth, art, thou, but, he, a man of war, from his youth.
੩੩ਤਦ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਨੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਦਾ ਸਾਹਮਣਾ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਲੜਨ ਯੋਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈਂ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਮੁੰਡਾ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਬਚਪਨ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਯੋਧਾ ਹੈ।
34 Then said David unto Saul, Thy servant used to tend his father’s sheep, —and there would come a lion, or a bear, and carry off a lamb out of the flock;
੩੪ਤਦ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਦਾਸ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਭੇਡਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਖੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਜਦ ਇੱਕ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਰਿੱਛ ਆਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਜੜ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਬੱਚਾ ਲੈ ਗਿਆ।
35 and I would go out after him, and smite him, and rescue it out of his mouth, —and, if he rose against me, I would catch him by his beard, and smite him, and slay him.
੩੫ਤਦ ਮੈਂ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਮਗਰ ਨਿੱਕਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਛੁਡਾਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਜਦ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਹਮਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਫੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਨੋਂ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
36 Thy servant could slay, either a lion or a bear, —and, this uncircumcised Philistine, shall become, as one of them, for he hath reproached the ranks of a Living God.
੩੬ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਦਾਸ ਨੇ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਅਤੇ ਰਿੱਛ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ ਸੋ ਇਹ ਅਸੁੰਨਤੀ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਜੋ ਜਿਉਂਦੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਦਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਰਮਿੰਦਾ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ!
37 And David said, Yahweh, who hath rescued me out of the power of the lion, and out of the power of the bear, he, will rescue us out of the hand of this Philistine. Then said Saul unto David—Go! and, Yahweh, will be with thee.
੩੭ਫੇਰ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਆਖਿਆ, ਜਿਸ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਦੇ ਪੰਜੇ ਅਤੇ ਰਿੱਛ ਦੇ ਪੰਜੇ ਤੋਂ ਛੁਡਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਹੋ ਹੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਦੇ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਛੁਡਾਵੇਗਾ। ਤਦ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਨੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਜਾ ਫੇਰ ਅਤੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੋਵੇ।
38 And Saul clad David with his own military coat, and set a helmet of bronze upon his head, —and clad him with a coat of mail.
੩੮ਤਾਂ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਥਿਆਰ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਪਹਿਨਾਏ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਪਿੱਤਲ ਦਾ ਟੋਪ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਧਰਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਜੋ ਵੀ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਪਹਿਨਾਈ
39 And David girded his sword above his military coat, but was reluctant to go, for he had not proved them, —so David said unto Saul—I cannot go in these, for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.
੩੯ਅਤੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਸੰਜੋ ਉੱਤੇ ਬੰਨ੍ਹੀ ਅਤੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਦਾ ਜਤਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਨੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਪਹਿਨਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ। ਤਦ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਥੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੁਰਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਖਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਸੋ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਉਹ ਸਭ ਆਪਣੇ ਉੱਤੋਂ ਉਤਾਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ।
40 Then took he his stick in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the torrent-bed, and put them in the shepherd’s-pouch which he had—even in the wallet, and had his sling in his hand, —and so drew near unto the Philistine.
੪੦ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੋਟੀ ਹੱਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਫੜ ਲਈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਸੋਤੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਪੰਜ ਚੀਕਣੇ ਪੱਥਰ ਚੁਣ ਲਏ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਜੜੀ ਦੇ ਝੋਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਸੀ ਅਰਥਾਤ ਗੁਥਲੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਖ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦਾ ਗੁਲੇਲ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੀ ਸੋ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਜਾਣ ਲੱਗਾ।
41 And the Philistine came on and on, and drew near unto David, —and the man carrying the shield was before him.
੪੧ਤਦ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਤੁਰਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਆਉਣ ਲੱਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਢਾਲ਼ ਚੁੱਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਸੀ।
42 And, when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him, —for he was a youth, and ruddy, a stripling of fair countenance.
੪੨ਜਦ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਨੇ ਆਲੇ-ਦੁਆਲੇ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਤੁੱਛ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਮੁੰਡਾ ਹੀ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਦਾ ਰੰਗ ਲਾਲ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਰੂਪ ਦਾ ਸੀ।
43 Then said the Philistine unto David, A dog, am, I, that thou art coming unto me, with sticks? And the Philistine cursed David, by his god.
੪੩ਸੋ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਨੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਕੀ, ਮੈਂ ਕੋਈ ਕੁੱਤਾ ਹਾਂ ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਸੋਟੀ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਇਆ ਹੈਂ? ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਰਾ ਬੋਲਣ ਲੱਗਾ।
44 And the Philistine said unto David, —Come, unto me, that I may give thy flesh to the birds of heaven, and to the beasts of the field.
੪੪ਤਦ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਨੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਆ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਮਾਸ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਦੇ ਪੰਛੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਜੰਗਲੀ ਜਾਨਵਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖੁਆਵਾਂ!
45 Then said David unto the Philistine—Thou, art coming unto me with sword, and with spear, and with javelin, —but, I, am coming unto thee in the name of Yahweh of hosts, God of the ranks of Israel which thou hast reproached.
੪੫ਪਰ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਤੂੰ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਬਰਛਾ ਅਤੇ ਢਾਲ਼ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਸੈਨਾਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਉੱਤੇ ਜੋ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਦਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਲਲਕਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ!
46 This day, will Yahweh deliver thee into my hand, and I will smite thee, and take thy head from off thee, and will give thy dead body and the dead bodies of the host of Philistines, this day, unto the birds of heaven, and unto the wild beasts of the earth, —that all the earth may know that Israel hath a God;
੪੬ਅਤੇ ਅੱਜ ਹੀ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕਰ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਸੁੱਟਾਂਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਿਰ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਵੱਖਰਾ ਕਰ ਦਿਆਂਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਅੱਜ ਹੀ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਦਲਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਾਸ਼ਾਂ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਦੇ ਪੰਛੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਜਾਨਵਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਵਾਂਗਾ ਜੋ ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਜਾਣੇ ਜੋ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਹੈ।
47 and that all this gathered host may know that, not with sword and with spear, doth Yahweh save, —for, unto Yahweh, belongeth the battle, and he will deliver you into our hand.
੪੭ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਸਾਰੇ ਦਲ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ ਜੋ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਬਰਛੀ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਚਾਉਂਦਾ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਯੁੱਧ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹੋ ਹੀ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਸਾਡੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ!
48 And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew near to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the ranks to meet the Philistine.
੪੮ਅਤੇ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਜਦ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਉੱਠਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਵੱਧ ਕੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨਾਲ ਲੜਨ ਨੂੰ ਨੇੜੇ ਆਇਆ ਤਾਂ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਛੇਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਦਲ ਦੀ ਵੱਲ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਲੜਨ ਨੂੰ ਭੱਜਿਆ।
49 And David thrust his hand into his pouch, and took from thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine, in his forehead, —that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell upon his face, to the earth.
੪੯ਅਤੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਗੁਥਲੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੱਥ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਪੱਥਰ ਕੱਢਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਲੇਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਨੂੰ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਪੱਥਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੁੱਭ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਮੂੰਹ ਦੇ ਭਾਰ ਧਰਤੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਡਿੱਗ ਪਿਆ!
50 Thus David prevailed over the Philistine, with the sling and with the stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him, —but, sword, was there none in the hand of David.
੫੦ਸੋ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਗੁਲੇਲ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਪੱਥਰ ਨਾਲ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਢ ਸੁੱਟਿਆ ਪਰ ਦਾਊਦ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ।
51 So David ran, and stood by the Philistine, and took his sword and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off, therewith, his head, —and, when the Philistines saw that their hero was slain, they fled.
੫੧ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਭੱਜ ਕੇ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਦੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਫੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਮਿਆਨੋਂ ਖਿੱਚ ਲਈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਿਰ ਉਸੇ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਵੱਢ ਸੁੱਟਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਜਦ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੂਰਮਾ ਮਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਭੱਜ ਗਏ।
52 Then arose the men of Israel and Judah, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, as far as the entrance into Gath, and as far as the gates of Ekron, —and the slain of the Philistines fell in the way to the two gates, even as far as Gath and as far as Ekron.
੫੨ਤਾਂ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਅਤੇ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਉੱਠੇ ਅਤੇ ਘਾਟੀ ਤੱਕ ਅਤੇ ਅਕਰੋਨ ਦੇ ਫਾਟਕਾਂ ਤੱਕ ਲਲਕਾਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਮਗਰ ਪਏ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਜਖ਼ਮੀ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਸੋ ਸ਼ਅਰਯਿਮ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਗਥ ਅਤੇ ਅਕਰੋਨ ਤੱਕ ਡਿੱਗਦੇ ਗਏ।
53 And the sons of Israel returned from hotly pursuing the Philistines, —and plundered their camps.
੫੩ਤਦ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਮੁੜ ਆਏ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਡੇਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੁੱਟ ਲਿਆ।
54 And David took the head of the Philistine, and brought it into Jerusalem, —but, his armour, put he into his tent.
੫੪ਅਤੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਉਸ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਦਾ ਸਿਰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਇਆ ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਸਤਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਡੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਖਿਆ।
55 And, when Saul saw David going forth to meet the Philistine, he said unto Abner, prince of the host, Whose son is the young man, Abner? And Abner said, By the life of thy soul, O king! I know not.
੫੫ਜਿਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਨੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਲੜਨ ਲਈ ਜਾਂਦਿਆਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸੈਨਾਪਤੀ ਅਬੀਨੇਰ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, ਅਬਨੇਰ ਇਹ ਮੁੰਡਾ ਕਿਸ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹੈ? ਅਬਨੇਰ ਬੋਲਿਆ, ਹੇ ਮਹਾਰਾਜ, ਤੇਰੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸਹੁੰ ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ।
56 Then said the king, —Ask, thou, whose son the stripling is?
੫੬ਤਦ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ਤੂੰ ਪਤਾ ਕਰ ਜੋ ਮੁੰਡਾ ਕਿਸ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹੈ।
57 And, when David returned from smiting the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul, —with the head of the Philistine in his hand.
੫੭ਸੋ ਜਦ ਦਾਊਦ ਉਸ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਢ ਕੇ ਮੁੜਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਅਬਨੇਰ ਨੇ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਫੜ੍ਹ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਕੋਲ ਲੈ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਦਾ ਸਿਰ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੀ।
58 And Saul said unto him, Whose son art, thou, O young man? And David said, Son of thy servant Jesse, the Bethlehemite.
