< 1 Samuel 17 >

1 And the Philistines gathered together their hosts, unto battle, and they were gathered together unto Socoh, which belongeth unto Judah, —and they encamped between Socoh and Azekah in Ephes-dammim;
Moun Filisti yo sanble tout sòlda yo lavil Soko nan peyi moun Jida yo, pou y' al goumen. Yo pran pozisyon yon kote yo rele Fwontyè San, ant lavil Soko ak lavil Azeka.
2 and, Saul and the men of Israel, gathered themselves together, and encamped in the vale of Elah, and set the army in array against the Philistines.
Sayil vini ansanm ak moun Izrayèl yo, yo pran pozisyon nan fon Bwadchenn lan, epi yo ranje kò yo anfas moun Filisti yo pou y' al goumen ak yo.
3 And, the Philistines, were standing near the hill on one side, and, the Israelites, were standing near the hill on the other side, —while, the valley, was between them.
Moun Filisti yo te sou yon ti mòn yon bò, moun pèp Izrayèl yo te sou yon lòt ti mòn anfas. Fon an te nan mitan de lame yo.
4 And there came forth a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, Goliath, his name, from Gath, —his height, six cubits and a span;
Yon bowòm yo rele Golyat, moun lavil Gat, soti nan kan moun Filisti yo, li parèt devan sòlda pèp Izrayèl yo, li mande pou yonn ladan yo vin fè fas kare ak li. Li te gen nèf pye wotè.
5 with a helmet of bronze on his head, and, with a scaly coat of mail, was he clad, —the weight of the coat, being five thousand shekels of bronze;
Li te gen yon kas fè nan tèt li ak yon rad fèt an plak fè sou li. Rad la te peze sansenkant (150) liv pou pi piti.
6 and, greaves of bronze, on his feet, —and, a javelin of bronze, between his shoulders;
Li te gen janbyè fèt an fè nan janm li, ak yon ti frenn fèt an asye pandye sou zepòl li.
7 and, the shaft of his spear, was like a weaver’s beam, and, the flashing head of his spear, was six hundred shekels of iron, —and, his shield-bearer, was coming on before him.
Bwa gwo frenn ki te nan men l' lan te menm gwosè ak yon gwo manch pilon. Pwent frenn lan te fèt an fè. Li te peze vin liv konsa. Te gen yon sòlda ki t'ap mache devan l' avèk plak pwotèj li a.
8 And he took his stand, and cried unto the ranks of Israel, and said unto them, Wherefore should ye come out, to set in array for battle? Am not, I, a Philistine, while, ye, are servants unto Saul? Choose you a man, and let him come down unto me:
Golyat kanpe, epi li rele moun pèp Izrayèl yo, li di yo konsa: -Se goumen nou vin goumen? Poukisa atò? Mwen menm, se moun Filisti mwen ye. Nou menm, se esklav Sayil nou ye. Chwazi yon nonm nan mitan nou pou l' vin kare avè m'.
9 If he prevail in fighting with me, and smite me, then will we become your servants, —but, if, I, prevail over him, and smite him, then shall ye become our servants, and serve, us.
Si l' rive bat mwen pou l' touye m', moun Filisti yo va vin esklav moun Izrayèl yo. Men, si se mwen ki bat li, si m' touye l', se nou menm moun Izrayèl yo k'ap vin esklav moun Filisti yo pou sèvi yo.
10 And the Philistine said—I, reproach the ranks of Israel, this day, —give me a man, that we may fight together.
Li di yo ankò: -Jòdi a mwen mete tout moun Izrayèl yo an defi. M' pini nou jwenn yon nonm ki pou vin kare avè m'.
11 When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and feared exceedingly.
Lè Sayil ak tout sòlda moun Izrayèl yo tande sa sòlda Filisti a te di yo, yo vin pè anpil. Yo pran tranble.
12 Now, David, was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehem-judah, whose, name, was Jesse, and, who, had eight sons, —and, the man, in the days of Saul was old, advanced in years.
David te pitit gason yon nonm fanmi Efrata yo, ki te rete lavil Betleyèm, nan peyi Jida. Nonm lan te rele Izayi. Li te gen wit pitit gason. Sou rèy wa Sayil, li te deja fin granmoun.
13 And the three eldest sons of Jesse had followed Saul to the battle, —and, the names of his three sons who went into the battle, were Eliab the firstborn, and, the next to him, Abinadab, and, the third, Shammah.
Twa premye pitit gason l' yo te pati al nan lagè ansanm ak Sayil. Pi gran an te rele Eliyab, dezyèm lan te rele Abinadab, twazyèm lan te rele Chama.
14 But, as for David, he, was the youngest, —and, the three eldest, followed Saul;
David te dènye pitit Izayi. Twa pi gran yo te pati ansanm ak Sayil.
15 whereas, David, kept going and returning from Saul, —to tend his father’s sheep at Bethlehem.
Tanzantan David te konn soti lakay Sayil desann lavil Betleyèm pou l' al okipe mouton papa l' yo.
16 And the Philistine drew near morning and evening, —and presented himself forty days.
Chak maten, chak aswè, pandan karant jou, Golyat te vin kanpe devan sòlda pèp Izrayèl yo pou mande yo batay.
17 And Jesse said unto David his son, Take, I pray thee, unto thy brethren—this ephah of parched corn, and these ten loaves, —and run to the camp unto thy brethren;
Yon jou, Izayi di David konsa: -Pran yon mamit grenn griye ak dis pen sa yo, kouri pote yo bay frè ou yo nan kan an.
18 also these ten slices of soft cheese, shalt thou take to the captain of their thousand, —and, as for thy brethren, give good heed to their welfare, their pledge, also shalt thou receive.
Pran dis fwomaj sa yo, pote yo bay kòmandan an. W'a pran nouvèl frè ou yo, ki jan yo ye. Epi w'a fè yo ba ou yon bagay pou m' sèten ou wè yo an sante.
19 Now, Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, were in the vale of Elah, ready to fight with the Philistines.
Wa Sayil, frè ou yo ansanm ak tout lòt mesye Izrayèl yo nan Fon Bwadchenn lan ap goumen ak moun Filisti yo.
20 So then David rose up early in the morning, and entrusted the sheep to a keeper, and took up [the provisions] and went his way, as Jesse had commanded him, —and came into the circular rampart, as, the force, was going forth into the ranks, and shouted for the fight.
Nan denmen maten, David leve byen bonè, li kite yon gadò pou veye mouton yo pou li, li pran manje a, epi li pati jan Izayi te di l' la. Lè li rive nan kan an, moun pèp Izrayèl yo te fèk soti pou y' al pran pozisyon batay. Yo t'ap rele pou chofe sòlda yo.
21 So Israel and the Philistines set in array for battle, army against army.
Lame moun Filisti yo ak lame moun Izrayèl yo vin kanpe yonn anfas lòt pou batay la.
22 Then David entrusted the provisions that were upon him to the care of the keeper of the stores, and ran unto the ranks, —and came and asked for the welfare of his brethren.
David kite manje li te pote a nan men nonm ki te reskonsab pwovizyon yo, li kouri kote batay la tapral mare a, l' al jwenn frè li yo. Li mande yo nouvèl yo.
23 Now, as he was speaking with them, lo! the champion coming up, Goliath the Philistine, by name, of Gath, [coming up] out of the ranks of the Philistines, and he spake according to these words, —and David heard [them].
Li t'ap pale ak yo konsa, lè Golyat, gwo sòlda Filisti a, moun lavil Gat la, soti nan kan moun Filisti yo, li vin kanpe devan sòlda pèp Izrayèl yo pou mande yo batay jan l' te konn fè l' anvan an. David tande sa Golyat t'ap di.
24 Now, all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from before him, and feared exceedingly.
Lè moun pèp Izrayèl yo wè Golyat parèt yo pran kouri tèlman yo te pè.
25 And the men of Israel said—Have ye seen this man that is coming up? For, to reproach Israel, is he coming. So then it shall be, that, the man that shall smite him, the same, will the king enrich with great riches, and, his own daughter, will give him, and, his father’s house, will he make free in Israel.
Yonn t'ap di lòt: -Gade nonm lan non! Tande jan l'ap mete nou an defi! Si yon moun rive bat nonm sa a, wa a ap fè moun sa a rich, l'ap marye l' ak pitit fi li. Lèfini, l'ap bay tout fanmi l' yo dwa pou yo pa janm bezwen peye ankenn taks nan peyi Izrayèl.
26 Then spake David unto the men that were standing by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that shall smite yonder Philistine, and so shall take away reproach from off Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he hath reproached the ranks of a Living God?
27 And the people answered him, according to this word saying, —So, shall it be done to the man that shall smite him.
Mesye yo di l' tou sa y'a fè pou moun ki va touye Golyat la.
28 Now Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men, —then was kindled the anger of Eliab against David, and he said—Wherefore is it that thou hast come down? and to whom hast thou entrusted those few sheep in the wilderness? I, know thy pride, and the foolishness of thy heart, for, to see the battle, hast thou come down.
Eliyab, pi gran nan frè David yo, te tande l' ap pale ak mesye yo. Li fache sou li, li di l' konsa: -Sa w'ap fè la a? Ki moun k'ap okipe mouton ou yo pou ou nan dezè a? Mwen konnen jan ou lafoura. Ou toujou sou plan! Se batay la ou vin gade.
29 And David said, What have I done, now? Was there not, a cause?
David reponn li: -Kisa m' fè, mezanmi! Yon senp ti keksyon m'ap mande moun yo la a wi!
30 Then turned he from him unto another, and said—according to this word, —and the people returned him an answer, like the first.
Li vire bò yon lòt moun, li mande l' menm keksyon an. Chak fwa, moun yo fè l' menm repons la.
31 And the words which David spake were overheard, —and, when they told them before Saul, he summoned him.
Kèk moun ki te tande sa David t'ap di al rapòte sa bay Sayil ki voye chache l'.
32 And David said unto Saul, Let not the heart of my lord fail, because of him, —thy servant, will go, and fight with this Philistine.
David di Sayil: -Monwa, pesonn pa dwe kite sòlda Filisti sa a ap kraponnen yo konsa. Mwen pral goumen avè l'.
33 And Saul said unto David—Thou art not able to go against this Philistine, to fight with him, —for, a youth, art, thou, but, he, a man of war, from his youth.
Sayil di David konsa: -Non, ou pa ka goumen ak sòlda Filisti sa a. Ou twò piti. Nèg sa a se yon sòlda k'ap goumen depi l' jenn gason.
34 Then said David unto Saul, Thy servant used to tend his father’s sheep, —and there would come a lion, or a bear, and carry off a lamb out of the flock;
David di Sayil: -Monwa, se mwen menm k'ap okipe mouton papa m' yo. Nenpòt lè yon lyon osinon yon lous vin pran yonn nan mouton yo,
35 and I would go out after him, and smite him, and rescue it out of his mouth, —and, if he rose against me, I would catch him by his beard, and smite him, and slay him.
mwen kouri dèyè l', m' atake l', mwen wete mouton an anba grif li. Si lè sa a, lyon an osinon lous la konprann pou l' vire sou mwen, mwen pran l' nan gagann, mwen bat li jouk mwen touye l'.
36 Thy servant could slay, either a lion or a bear, —and, this uncircumcised Philistine, shall become, as one of them, for he hath reproached the ranks of a Living God.
Menm jan mwen touye lyon ak lous, se konsa m'a touye sòlda Filisti sa a ki pa moun k'ap sèvi Seyè a. M'ap touye l' paske li mete lame Bondye vivan an an defi vin goumen avè l'.
37 And David said, Yahweh, who hath rescued me out of the power of the lion, and out of the power of the bear, he, will rescue us out of the hand of this Philistine. Then said Saul unto David—Go! and, Yahweh, will be with thee.
David di ankò: -Seyè a te delivre m' anba pat lyon yo ak pat lous yo, l'a delivre m' tou anba men sòlda Filisti sa a. Sayil di David: -Bon, ale non! Mwen mande Seyè a pou l' avèk ou!
38 And Saul clad David with his own military coat, and set a helmet of bronze upon his head, —and clad him with a coat of mail.
Sayil pran pwòp rad lagè pa l' yo, li mete sou David. Li mete yon kas fè nan tèt David ak yon rad fèt an plak fè pou pwoteje kò li.
39 And David girded his sword above his military coat, but was reluctant to go, for he had not proved them, —so David said unto Saul—I cannot go in these, for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.
David pase nepe Sayil la nan ren l', anwo rad lagè a. Men, li fè sa pou l' mache, li pa t' kapab, paske li pa t' konn sèvi ak tout bagay sa yo. Li di Sayil konsa: -Mwen pa ka mache ak tout bagay sa yo sou mwen, mwen pa konn sèvi ak yo. Epi David wete tout bagay yo sou li.
40 Then took he his stick in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the torrent-bed, and put them in the shepherd’s-pouch which he had—even in the wallet, and had his sling in his hand, —and so drew near unto the Philistine.
Lèfini, li pran baton l' nan men l', li ranmase senk ti wòch won nan ravin lan, li mete yo nan ralfò li sèvi lè l'ap okipe mouton yo. Apre sa, fistibal li nan men l', li mache sou Golyat.
41 And the Philistine came on and on, and drew near unto David, —and the man carrying the shield was before him.
Sòlda Filisti a pran mache sou David tou. Nonm ki t'ap pote plak pwotèj li a t'ap mache devan li. Li t'ap pwoche pi pre David.
42 And, when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him, —for he was a youth, and ruddy, a stripling of fair countenance.
Lè sòlda Filisti a gade, li wè David pi pre, li tchwipe, epi li vire tèt li sou kote, paske li te wè se yon timoun ak cheve koulè kannèl, ak yon bèl ti figi ki te devan l'.
43 Then said the Philistine unto David, A dog, am, I, that thou art coming unto me, with sticks? And the Philistine cursed David, by his god.
Sòlda Filisti a di David konsa: -Gen lè se yon chen mwen ye pou se avèk yon baton w'ap mache sou mwen? Epi li pran non bondye l' yo pou madichonnen David.
44 And the Philistine said unto David, —Come, unto me, that I may give thy flesh to the birds of heaven, and to the beasts of the field.
Apre sa, li di ankò: -Mwen pini ou vanse sou mwen pou ou wè si mwen p'ap pran kò ou pou m' bay zwazo nan syèl ak bèt nan bwa manje.
45 Then said David unto the Philistine—Thou, art coming unto me with sword, and with spear, and with javelin, —but, I, am coming unto thee in the name of Yahweh of hosts, God of the ranks of Israel which thou hast reproached.
David di sòlda Filisti a konsa: -W'ap mache sou mwen avèk nepe, gwo frenn ak ti frenn. Men mwen menm, m'ap mache sou ou nan non Seyè ki gen tout pouvwa a, Bondye lame pèp Izrayèl la. Se li menm ou te mete an defi vin goumen avè ou.
46 This day, will Yahweh deliver thee into my hand, and I will smite thee, and take thy head from off thee, and will give thy dead body and the dead bodies of the host of Philistines, this day, unto the birds of heaven, and unto the wild beasts of the earth, —that all the earth may know that Israel hath a God;
Jòdi a menm, Seyè a pral lage ou nan men m'. M'ap vide ou atè, m'ap koupe tèt ou. Lèfini, m'ap kite kadav ou ansanm ak kadav sòlda Filisti yo pou zwazo nan syèl ak bèt nan bwa manje. Konsa, tout moun nan peyi a va konnen pèp Izrayèl la gen yon Bondye.
47 and that all this gathered host may know that, not with sword and with spear, doth Yahweh save, —for, unto Yahweh, belongeth the battle, and he will deliver you into our hand.
Wi, tout moun ki sanble isit la a va wè Bondye pa bezwen ni nepe ni frenn pou delivre pèp li a. Batay la rele l' pa l'. Se li menm ki pral lage tout moun Filisti yo nan men pèp Izrayèl la.
48 And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew near to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the ranks to meet the Philistine.
Golyat pran mache ankò sou David. David menm t'ap kouri al kontre ak li devan lame yo.
49 And David thrust his hand into his pouch, and took from thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine, in his forehead, —that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell upon his face, to the earth.
Li foure men l' nan ti ralfò li a, li pran yon wòch ladan l', li mete l' nan fistibal la, li vize Golyat. Li frape sòlda Filisti a nan mitan fwon. Wòch la antre nan kalbas tèt sòlda Filisti a. Sòlda Filisti a tonbe fas atè.
50 Thus David prevailed over the Philistine, with the sling and with the stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him, —but, sword, was there none in the hand of David.
Se konsa David te bat sòlda Filisti a avèk yon fistibal ak yon wòch. Li vide sòlda Filisti a atè, li touye l'. Li pa t' gen yon bout nepe menm nan men l'.
51 So David ran, and stood by the Philistine, and took his sword and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off, therewith, his head, —and, when the Philistines saw that their hero was slain, they fled.
David kouri al bò kote sòlda Filisti a, li moute sou li, li rale nepe sòlda Filisti a soti nan djenn li, li touye l', lèfini li koupe tèt li. Lè moun Filisti yo wè bowòm yo a te mouri, yo kouri met deyò.
52 Then arose the men of Israel and Judah, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, as far as the entrance into Gath, and as far as the gates of Ekron, —and the slain of the Philistines fell in the way to the two gates, even as far as Gath and as far as Ekron.
Sòlda pèp Izrayèl yo ak mesye peyi Jida yo leve, yo pouse gwo rèl lagè yo a, yo pran kouri dèyè moun Filisti yo jouk devan lavil Gat, jouk devan pòtay Ekwon. Te gen kadav moun Filisti sou tout wout ki mennen lavil Charayim lan jouk lavil Gat ak Ekwon.
53 And the sons of Israel returned from hotly pursuing the Philistines, —and plundered their camps.
Se lè sa a moun pèp Izrayèl yo sispann kouri dèyè moun Filisti yo, yo kase tèt tounen. Yo fè yon gwo piyay nan kan moun Filisti yo.
54 And David took the head of the Philistine, and brought it into Jerusalem, —but, his armour, put he into his tent.
David pran tèt Golyat, li pote l' lavil Jerizalèm, men li kenbe zam sòlda Filisti a lakay li.
55 And, when Saul saw David going forth to meet the Philistine, he said unto Abner, prince of the host, Whose son is the young man, Abner? And Abner said, By the life of thy soul, O king! I know not.
Lè Sayil wè David t'ap mache al kontre ak sòlda Filisti a, li mande Abnè, kòmandan lame li a: -Abnè, pitit ki moun jenn gason sa a ye? Abnè reponn li: -Monwa, mwen fè sèman, menm jan ou vivan an, mwen pa konnen l'.
56 Then said the king, —Ask, thou, whose son the stripling is?
Wa a di li: -Al chache konnen pitit ki moun li ye.
57 And, when David returned from smiting the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul, —with the head of the Philistine in his hand.
Apre David fin touye sòlda Filisti a, li tounen nan kan moun pèp Izrayèl yo. Abnè pran l', li mennen l' devan Sayil. David te kenbe tèt sòlda Filisti a nan men l' toujou.
58 And Saul said unto him, Whose son art, thou, O young man? And David said, Son of thy servant Jesse, the Bethlehemite.
Sayil mande l': -Ti gason, pitit ki moun ou ye hen! David reponn: -Mwen se pitit moun pa ou la, Izayi, moun lavil Betleyèm.
