1 Samuel 15
1 And Samuel said unto Saul, It was, me, Yahweh sent to anoint thee to be king over his people, over Israel, —now, therefore, hearken thou to the voice of Yahweh’s words.
Samuel aber sagte zu Saul: »Mich hat der HERR (einst) gesandt, dich zum König über sein Volk Israel zu salben; so gehorche nun dem bestimmten Befehl des HERRN!
2 Thus, saith Yahweh of hosts, I have well considered what Amalek did unto Israel—how he lay in wait for him in the way, when he came up out of Egypt.
So hat Gott, der HERR der Heerscharen, gesprochen: ›Ich will das Unrecht ahnden, das die Amalekiter einst den Israeliten zugefügt haben, indem sie ihnen beim Auszug aus Ägypten den Weg verlegten.
3 Now, go and smite Amalek, and devote ye to destruction all that he hath, and spare him not, —but thou shalt slay both man and woman, both child and suckling, both ox and sheep, both camel and ass.
Darum ziehe jetzt hin, schlage die Amalekiter und vollstrecke den Bann an ihnen und an allem, was sie besitzen! Übe keine Schonung an ihnen, sondern laß alles sterben, Männer wie Weiber, Kinder wie Säuglinge, Rinder wie Kleinvieh, Kamele wie Esel!‹«
4 So then Saul called together the people, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, —and ten thousand men of Judah.
Da bot Saul das Volk auf und musterte es in Telaim: 200000 Mann Fußvolk und 10000 Mann aus Juda.
5 And Saul came as far as the city of Amalek, —and stirred up strife in the ravine.
Nachdem Saul dann vor die Hauptstadt der Amalekiter gerückt war, legte er einen Hinterhalt im Bachtal;
6 Then said Saul unto the Kenites—Go, depart, get you down out of the midst of the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them, yet, ye, dealt in lovingkindness, with all the sons of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt. So the Kenites departed out of the midst of the Amalekites.
den Kenitern aber ließ er sagen: »Auf! Zieht euch zurück und entfernt euch aus der Mitte der Amalekiter, damit ich euch nicht zugleich mit ihnen vernichte! Denn ihr habt allen Israeliten bei ihrem Auszuge aus Ägypten Freundschaft erwiesen.« Da zogen die Keniter aus dem Gebiet der Amalekiter weg.
7 And Saul smote Amalek, —from Havilah, till thou enterest Shur, which is over against Egypt.
Hierauf besiegte Saul die Amalekiter (und richtete ein Blutbad unter ihnen an) von Hawila bis nach Sur, das östlich von Ägypten liegt.
8 And he took Agag, king of Amalek, alive, —but, all the people, devoted he to destruction at the edge of the sword.
Agag, den König der Amalekiter, nahm er lebendig gefangen und vollstreckte den Bann an dem ganzen Volk mit der Schärfe des Schwertes;
9 But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep and the oxen and the lambs, also the fatlings, and all that was good, and would not devote them to destruction, —but, all the cattle that was contemptible and diseased, that, devoted they to destruction.
doch verschonte Saul und seine Leute den Agag und die besten Stücke des Kleinviehs und der Rinder, die feisten Tiere und die Lämmer und überhaupt alles Wertvolle, und sie wollten den Bann an ihnen nicht vollstrecken; nur was vom Vieh gering (und wertlos) war, an dem vollstreckten sie den Bann.
10 Then came the word of Yahweh unto Samuel, saying—
Da erging das Wort des HERRN an Samuel also:
11 I am grieved that I made Saul to be king, for he hath turned back from following me, and, my words, hath he not established. And it was vexing to Samuel, so that he made outcry unto Yahweh, all the night.
»Es reut mich, daß ich Saul zum König gemacht habe; denn er hat sich vom Gehorsam gegen mich abgewandt und meine Befehle nicht ausgerichtet.« Darüber geriet Samuel in schmerzliche Aufregung, so daß er die ganze Nacht hindurch zum HERRN schrie.
12 And Samuel rose early to meet Saul, in the morning, and it was told Samuel, saying—Saul having come to Carmel, and lo! having set him up a sign, hath gone round, and passed over, and descended to Gilgal.
Am folgenden Morgen früh aber machte Samuel sich auf, um Saul entgegenzugehen; da wurde ihm die Botschaft gebracht, Saul habe sich nach Karmel begeben und sich dort ein Denkmal errichtet, sei dann aber umgekehrt und weiter nach Gilgal hinabgezogen.
13 And Samuel came unto Saul, —and Saul said unto him—Blessed, be thou by Yahweh: I have established the word of Yahweh.
Als nun Samuel zu Saul kam, sagte Saul zu ihm: »Gesegnet seist du vom HERRN! Ich habe den Befehl des HERRN ausgeführt.«
14 And Samuel said, What then is this bleating of sheep, in mine ears, —and the lowing of oxen, which I can hear?
Da antwortete Samuel: »Was ist denn das für ein Blöken von Kleinvieh, das an meine Ohren dringt, und ein Gebrüll von Rindern, das ich höre?«
15 Then said Saul—From the Amalekites, have they brought them in; in that the people spared the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto Yahweh thy God, —but, the rest, have we devoted to destruction.
Saul erwiderte: »Von den Amalekitern haben unsere Leute sie mitgebracht, weil sie die besten Stücke von dem Kleinvieh und den Rindern verschont haben, um sie dem HERRN, deinem Gott, zu opfern; aber an dem Übrigen haben wir den Bann vollstreckt.«
16 Then said Samuel unto Saul, Stay, and let me tell thee, that which Yahweh hath spoken unto me, this night. And he said to him—Speak.
Da entgegnete Samuel dem Saul: »Halt ein! Ich will dir mitteilen, was der HERR in dieser Nacht zu mir gesagt hat.« Jener erwiderte ihm: »Rede!«
17 And Samuel said, Was it not, when, little, thou wast in thine own eyes, that thou wast made, head of the tribes of Israel, —and that Yahweh anointed thee to be king over Israel?
Da sagte Samuel: »Nicht wahr? Obgleich du dir selbst klein vorkamst, bist du doch das Haupt der Stämme Israels geworden; denn der HERR hat dich zum König über Israel gesalbt.
18 So then Yahweh sent thee on a journey, —and said—Go, and devastate to destruction, the sinners—the Amalekites, and make war against them, until they have consumed them.
Nun hat der HERR dich zu einem Kriegszuge ausgesandt und dir geboten: ›Ziehe hin, vollstrecke den Bann an den Frevlern, den Amalekitern, und bekriege sie, bis du sie vernichtet hast!‹
19 Wherefore, then, didst thou not hearken unto the voice of Yahweh, —but didst rush upon the spoil, and do that which was wrong in the sight of Yahweh?
Warum bist du nun der Weisung des HERRN nicht nachgekommen, sondern hast dich über die Beute hergemacht und das getan, was dem HERRN mißfällt?«
20 And Saul said unto Samuel—As indeed I have hearkened unto the voice of Yahweh, and have been on the journey on which Yahweh sent me, —and have brought in Agag, king of Amalek, and, the Amalekites, have I devoted to destruction.
Saul antwortete dem Samuel: »Ich bin ja doch der Weisung des HERRN nachgekommen und habe den Kriegszug, zu dem der HERR mich ausgesandt hatte, ausgeführt und habe Agag, den König der Amalekiter, mitgebracht und an den Amalekitern den Bann vollstreckt.
21 And the people took, of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things so devoted, —to sacrifice unto Yahweh thy God, in Gilgal.
Aber das Kriegsvolk hat von der Beute Kleinvieh und Rinder genommen, das Beste von dem Banngut, um es dem HERRN, deinem Gott, in Gilgal zu opfern.«
22 Then said Samuel—Doth that which is pleasing unto Yahweh consist in ascending-offerings and sacrifices, So much as in hearkening unto the voice of Yahweh? Lo! to hearken, is, better, than, sacrifice. And, to give heed, than, the fat of rams;
Da antwortete Samuel: »Hat der HERR etwa an Brandopfern und Schlachtopfern das gleiche Wohlgefallen wie am Gehorsam gegen seine Befehle? Wisse wohl: Gehorsam ist besser als Schlachtopfer, Folgsamkeit besser als das Fett von Widdern;
23 For, as the sin of divination, is, rebelliousness, —and, as transgression with household gods, is, stubbornness, —Because thou hast rejected the word of Yahweh, therefore hath he rejected thee from being king.
denn Ungehorsam ist ebenso schlimm wie die Sünde der Zauberei, und Eigenwille ist wie Abgötterei und Götzendienst. Weil du den Befehl des HERRN verworfen hast, hat er dich auch verworfen, daß du nicht mehr König sein sollst!«
24 Then said Saul unto Samuel—I have sinned; for I have transgressed the bidding of Yahweh, and thy words, —for I feared the people, and hearkened unto their voice.
Da sagte Saul zu Samuel: »Ich habe gesündigt, weil ich den Befehl des HERRN und deine Weisungen übertreten habe; denn ich habe mich vor dem Kriegsvolk gefürchtet und deshalb seiner Forderung nachgegeben.
25 Now, therefore, I pray thee, pardon my sin, —and turn again with me, that I may bow down unto Yahweh.
Doch nun vergib mir meine Versündigung und kehre mit mir um, damit ich den HERRN anbete!«
26 And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not turn again with thee, —Because thou hast rejected the word of Yahweh, therefore hath Yahweh rejected thee from being king over Israel.
Aber Samuel erwiderte ihm: »Ich kehre nicht mit dir um; weil du den Befehl des HERRN verworfen hast, so hat der HERR dich auch verworfen, daß du nicht länger König über Israel sein sollst.«
27 And, when Samuel turned about to go away, then laid he hold of the skirt of his robe, and it was rent.
Als nun Samuel sich umwandte, um wegzugehen, erfaßte Saul den Zipfel seines Mantels, aber dieser riß ab.
28 And Samuel said unto him, Yahweh hath rent the kingdom of Israel from off thee, to-day, —and will give it unto a neighbour of thine, who is better than thou.
Da sagte Samuel zu ihm: »Der HERR hat heute das Königtum über Israel von dir gerissen und gibt es einem andern, der besser ist als du.
29 Moreover also, the Eminence of Israel, will not lie, neither will he repent, —For no, iron of earth, is, he, to repent!
Und niemals lügt der ruhmwürdige Gott Israels und empfindet keine Reue; denn er ist kein Mensch, daß ihn etwas gereuen müßte.«
30 Then he said: I have sinned, Now, honour me, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, —and turn again with me, then will I bow down unto Yahweh thy God.
Saul antwortete: »Ich habe gesündigt; aber erweise mir doch jetzt vor den Ältesten meines Volkes und vor Israel die Ehre, mit mir umzukehren, damit ich den HERRN, deinen Gott, anbete!«
31 So then Samuel turned again, after Saul—and Saul bowed down unto Yahweh.
Da kehrte Samuel um, und zwar hinter Saul her, und Saul verrichtete seine Anbetung vor dem HERRN.
32 Then said Samuel—Bring ye near unto me—Agag, king of Amalek, And Agag came unto him, in fetters. Then said Agag, Surely, terrible, is the bitterness of death!
Hierauf befahl Samuel: »Bringt Agag, den König der Amalekiter, zu mir her!« Da trat Agag wohlgemut vor ihn und sagte: »Fürwahr, der Tod hat seine Bitterkeit (für mich) verloren!«
33 And Samuel said, As women have been made childless by thy sword, So, childless among women, shall be, thine own mother. And Samuel cut Agag asunder before Yahweh, in Gilgal.
Samuel aber sagte: »Wie dein Schwert Frauen ihrer Kinder beraubt hat, so soll auch deine Mutter ihrer Kinder unter den Frauen beraubt sein!« Hierauf hieb Samuel den Agag in Stücke vor dem HERRN in Gilgal.
34 Then Samuel departed unto Ramah, —but, Saul, went up unto his own house, at Gibeah of Saul.
Samuel begab sich dann nach Rama, während Saul nach dem Gibea Sauls heimkehrte.
35 And Samuel did no more see Saul, until the day of his death, for Samuel pined for Saul, —but, Yahweh, was grieved that he had made Saul king over Israel.
Samuel besuchte dann Saul bis zu seinem Todestage nicht wieder; denn Samuel trauerte um Saul, weil der HERR es bereut hatte, Saul zum König über Israel gemacht zu haben.
