1 Samuel 12
1 And Samuel said unto all Israel, Lo! I have hearkened unto your voice, in all that ye said to me, —and have set over you a king.
Alors Samuel dit à tout Israël: Voici, j'ai obéi à votre parole en tout ce que vous m'avez dit, et j'ai établi un Roi sur vous.
2 Now, therefore, lo! the king going to and fro before you, But, I, am old and grey-headed, and, my sons, lo! they are with you, —But, I, have gone to and fro before you from my youth until this day.
Et maintenant, voici le Roi qui marche devant vous, car pour moi je suis vieux, et tout blanc de vieillesse, et voici, mes fils aussi sont avec vous; et pour moi j'ai marché devant vous, depuis ma jeunesse jusques à ce jour.
3 Behold me! testify against me, before Yahweh, and before his Anointed—Whose, ox, have I taken? or whose, ass, have I taken? or whom have I oppressed? Whom have I crushed? or at whose, hands, have I taken a bribe, to cover up mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it unto you.
Me voici, répondez-moi, devant l'Eternel, et devant son oint. De qui ai-je pris le bœuf? et de qui ai-je pris l'âne? et à qui ai-je fait tort? qui ai-je foulé? et de la main de qui ai-je pris des récompenses, afin d'user de connivence à son égard, et je vous en ferai restitution?
4 And they said, Thou hast not oppressed us, neither hast thou crushed us, —neither hast thou taken, at the hand of any man, any thing.
Et ils répondirent: Tu ne nous as point opprimés, et tu ne nous as point foulés, et tu n'as rien pris de personne.
5 And he said unto them—Witness, is Yahweh against you, and, witness, is his Anointed, this day, that ye have not found in my hand, any thing! And they said: Witness!
Il leur dit encore: L'Eternel est témoin contre vous; son oint aussi est témoin aujourd'hui, que vous n'avez trouvé aucune chose entre mes mains. Et ils répondirent: Il en est témoin.
6 And Samuel said unto the people: Witness, is Yahweh, who wrought with Moses and with Aaron, and who brought up your fathers out of the land of Egypt.
Alors Samuel dit au peuple: L'Eternel est celui qui a fait Moïse et Aaron, et qui a fait monter vos pères hors du pays d'Egypte.
7 Now, therefore, take your stand and let me plead with you, before Yahweh, —and tell you all the righteous acts of Yahweh, which he wrought with you, and with your fathers:
Maintenant donc présentez-vous [ici], et j'entrerai en procès contre vous devant l'Eternel, pour tous les bienfaits de l'Eternel, qu'il a faits à vous et à vos pères.
8 How that, when Jacob had come into Egypt, —and your fathers had made outcry unto Yahweh, then Yahweh sent Moses and Aaron, and they brought forth your fathers out of Egypt, and he caused them to dwell in this place;
Après que Jacob fut entré en Egypte, vos pères crièrent à l'Eternel, et l'Eternel envoya Moïse et Aaron qui tirèrent vos pères hors d'Egypte, et qui les ont fait habiter en ce lieu-ci.
9 And, when they forgat Yahweh their God, he sold them into the hand of Sisera, prince of the host of Jabin, king of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them;
Mais ils oublièrent l'Eternel leur Dieu, et il les livra entre les mains de Siséra, chef de l'armée de Hatsor, et entre les mains des Philistins, et entre les mains du Roi de Moab, qui leur firent la guerre.
10 But, when they made outcry unto Yahweh and said—We have sinned, in that we have forsaken Yahweh, and have served the Baals and the Ashtoreths, —now, therefore, deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, that we may serve thee,
Après ils crièrent à l'Eternel, et dirent: Nous avons péché; car nous avons abandonné l'Eternel, et nous avons servi les Bahalins, et Hastaroth. Maintenant donc délivre-nous des mains de nos ennemis, et nous te servirons.
11 then Yahweh sent Jerubbaal and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, —and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies, on every side, and ye dwelt in safety.
Et l'Eternel a envoyé Jerubbahal, et Bedan, et Jephthé, et Samuel, et il vous a délivrés de la main de tous vos ennemis d'alentour, et vous avez habité en pleine assurance.
12 But, when ye saw that, Nahash king of the sons of Ammon, came upon you, then said ye unto me, Nay! but, a king, shall reign over us, when, Yahweh your God, was your king!
Mais quand vous avez vu que Nahas Roi des enfants de Hammon venait contre vous, vous m'avez dit: Non, mais un Roi régnera sur nous; quoique l'Eternel votre Dieu fût votre Roi.
13 Now, therefore, lo! the king whom ye have chosen, for whom ye have asked, —lo! therefore, Yahweh hath set over you a king.
Maintenant donc voici le Roi que vous avez choisi, que vous avez demandé, et voici l'Eternel l'a établi Roi sur vous.
14 If ye will revere Yahweh, and serve him, and hearken unto his voice, and not rebel against the bidding of Yahweh, then shall, both ye and your king that reigneth over you, continue to follow after Yahweh your God.
Si vous craignez l'Eternel, et que vous le serviez, et obéissiez à sa voix, et que vous ne soyez point rebelles au commandement de l'Eternel, alors et vous, et votre Roi qui règne sur vous, vous serez sous la conduite de l'Eternel votre Dieu.
15 But, if ye hearken not unto the voice of Yahweh, but rebel against the bidding of Yahweh, then will the hand of Yahweh continue to be against you, and against your fathers.
Mais si vous n'obéissez pas à la voix de l'Eternel, et si vous êtes rebelles au commandement de l'Eternel, la main de l'Eternel sera aussi contre vous, comme elle a été contre vos pères.
16 Even now, stand still and see this great thing, —which Yahweh is about to do before your eyes:
Or maintenant arrêtez-vous, et voyez cette grande chose que l'Eternel va faire devant vos yeux.
17 Is it not wheat harvest, to-day? I will cry unto Yahweh, that he may give forth thunderings and rain, —know ye then and see, that, your wrong, is great which ye have done in the sight of Yahweh, in asking for yourselves, a king.
N'est-ce pas aujourd'hui la moisson des blés? Je crierai à l'Eternel, et il fera tonner et pleuvoir; afin que vous sachiez et que vous voyiez, combien le mal que vous avez fait en la présence de l'Eternel est grand, d'avoir demandé un Roi pour vous.
18 So Samuel cried unto Yahweh, and Yahweh gave forth thunderings and rain, on that day, —and all the people greatly feared Yahweh, and Samuel.
Alors Samuel cria à l'Eternel, et l'Eternel fit tonner et pleuvoir en ce jour-là; et tout le peuple craignit fort l'Eternel et Samuel.
19 And all the people said unto Samuel—Pray for thy servants, unto Yahweh thy God, and let it not be that we die, —For we have added, to all our sins, a wrong, in asking for ourselves a king.
Et tout le peuple dit à Samuel: Prie pour tes serviteurs l'Eternel ton Dieu, afin que nous ne mourions point; car nous avons ajouté ce mal à tous nos [autres] péchés, d'avoir demandé un Roi pour nous.
20 Then said Samuel unto the people—Do not fear, ye, have done all this wrong, —nevertheless, do not turn aside from following Yahweh, but serve Yahweh, with all your heart;
Alors Samuel dit au peuple: Ne craignez point; vous avez fait tout ce mal-ci, néanmoins ne vous détournez point d'après l'Eternel, mais servez l'Eternel de tout votre cœur.
21 and turn not aside after vanities, that can neither profit nor deliver, because, vanities, they are.
Ne vous en détournez donc point, car ce serait vous détourner après des choses de néant, qui ne vous apporteraient aucun profit, et qui ne vous délivreraient point; puisque ce sont des choses de néant.
22 For Yahweh will not give up his people, because of his great name, for Yahweh was minded to make you his people.
Car l'Eternel pour l'amour de son grand Nom n'abandonnera point son peuple; parce que l'Eternel a voulu vous faire son peuple.
23 As for me also, far be it from me, that I should sin against Yahweh, by ceasing to pray for you, —but I will direct you, in the good and right way.
Et pour moi, Dieu me garde que je pèche contre l'Eternel, et que je cesse de prier pour vous; mais je vous enseignerai le bon et le droit chemin.
24 Only, revere Yahweh, and serve him in truth, with all your heart, —for see, what great things he hath done with you.
Seulement craignez l'Eternel, et servez-le en vérité, de tout votre cœur; car vous avez vu les choses magnifiques qu'il a faites pour vous.
25 But, if ye, will do wrong, both ye and your king shall be swept away.
Mais si vous persévérez à mal faire, vous serez consumés vous et votre Roi.
