1 Kings 3
1 And Solomon contracted an alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt, —and took the daughter of Pharaoh, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of Yahweh, and the wall of Jerusalem, round about.
verschwägerte sich Salomo mit dem Pharao, dem König von Ägypten; er heiratete nämlich eine Tochter des Pharaos und führte sie in die Davidsstadt, bis er mit dem Bau seines Palastes sowie mit dem Bau des Tempels des HERRN und der Ringmauer um Jerusalem fertig war.
2 Save only, that the people were sacrificing in the high places, —because there had not been built a house unto the Name of Yahweh, until those days,
Das Volk mußte damals leider noch auf den Höhen opfern, weil bis zu dieser Zeit dem Namen des HERRN noch kein eigenes Haus erbaut worden war.
3 Solomon loved Yahweh, by walking in the statutes of David his father, —save only, that, in the high places, he himself, was sacrificing and offering incense.
Salomo hatte zwar den HERRN lieb, so daß er nach den Weisungen seines Vaters David wandelte, doch opferte und räucherte auch er noch auf den Höhen.
4 So then the king went to Gibeon, to sacrifice there, for, that, was the great high place, —a thousand ascending-sacrifices, did Solomon offer up on that altar.
So begab sich denn der König nach Gibeon, um dort zu opfern; denn dort befand sich das vornehmste Höhenheiligtum; tausend Brandopfer(-tiere) brachte Salomo auf dem dortigen Altar dar.
5 In Gibeon, Yahweh appeared unto Solomon, in a dream by night, —and God said, Ask, what I shall give thee.
Da erschien der HERR dem Salomo zu Gibeon nachts im Traum, und Gott sagte: »Bitte, was ich dir geben soll!«
6 Then said Solomon—Thou, didst deal, with thy servant David my father, in great lovingkindness, according as he walked before thee, in truth and in righteousness and in uprightness of heart, with thee, —and thou hast kept, for him, this great lovingkindness, that thou hast given unto him a son, to sit upon his throne, as it is this day.
Salomo antwortete: »Du hast deinem Knecht, meinem Vater David, große Huld erwiesen, weil er vor dir in Wahrheit und Gerechtigkeit und mit aufrichtigem Herzen gegen dich gewandelt ist, und du hast ihm auch diese große Huld bewahrt und ihm einen Sohn gegeben, der auf seinem Throne sitzt, wie dieser Tag beweist.
7 Now, therefore, O Yahweh my God, thou, hast made thy servant king, instead of David my father, —and, I, am but a little child, I know not how to go out and come in.
Nun denn, HERR, mein Gott, weil du selbst deinen Knecht an meines Vaters David Statt zum König gemacht hast, ich aber noch ein junger Mann bin, der weder aus noch ein weiß,
8 And, thy servant, is in the midst of thy people, whom thou hast chosen, —a numerous people, that cannot be numbered or summed up, for multitude.
und weil dein Knecht in der Mitte deines Volkes steht, das du erwählt hast, eines so großen Volkes, daß man es vor Menge nicht zählen noch berechnen kann:
9 Wilt thou, then, give unto thy servant, a heart that hearkeneth, to judge thy people, to discern between good and bad, —for who is able to judge this thine honoured people?
so wollest du deinem Knecht ein verständiges Herz geben, damit er dein Volk zu regieren versteht und zwischen gut und böse zu unterscheiden weiß; denn wer wäre sonst imstande, dieses dein so zahlreiches Volk zu regieren?«
10 And the thing was good in the eyes of the Lord, —that Solomon had asked this thing;
Diese Rede gefiel dem HERRN wohl, daß Salomo nämlich eine solche Bitte ausgesprochen hatte;
11 And God said unto him—Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself many days, nor asked for thyself riches, nor asked the lives of thine enemies, —but hast asked for thyself discernment, in hearing a cause,
darum antwortete Gott ihm: »Weil du diese Bitte ausgesprochen und dir nicht ein langes Leben oder Reichtum gewünscht oder auch um den Tod deiner Feinde gebeten, sondern dir Einsicht erbeten hast, um Verständnis für das Recht zu besitzen,
12 lo! I have done according to thy word, —lo! I have given unto thee a wise and discerning heart, so that, like thee, hath been none, before thee, and, after thee, shall rise up none, like thee.
so will ich deine Bitte erfüllen: Siehe, ich will dir ein weises und einsichtsvolles Herz geben, so daß deinesgleichen nicht vor dir gewesen ist und deinesgleichen nach dir nicht erstehen wird.
13 Moreover also, what thou hast not asked, have I given unto thee, both riches and honour, —so that there hath been none, like thee, among the kings, all thy days.
Aber auch das will ich dir verleihen, was du dir nicht erbeten hast, sowohl Reichtum als auch Ehre, so daß kein anderer König dir gleich sein soll, solange du lebst.
14 And, if thou wilt walk in my ways, by keeping my statutes, and my commandments, as, David thy father, walked, then will I lengthen out thy days.
Und wenn du auf meinen Wegen wandelst, indem du meine Satzungen und Gebote beobachtest, wie dein Vater David gewandelt ist, so will ich dir auch ein langes Leben verleihen.«
15 And Solomon awoke, and lo! it was a dream. So he entered into Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and caused to go up ascending-sacrifices and offered peace-offerings, and made a banquet for all his servants.
Als nun Salomo erwachte, erkannte er, daß es ein bedeutungsvoller Traum gewesen war. Als er dann nach Jerusalem zurückgekehrt war, trat er vor die Bundeslade des HERRN, brachte Brandopfer dar und richtete Heilsopfer her und veranstaltete ein Festmahl für alle seine Diener.
16 Then, came there in two unchaste women, unto the king, —and stood before him.
Damals kamen zwei Dirnen zum König und traten vor ihn;
17 And the one woman said—Pardon, my lord! I and this woman, dwell in one house, —and I gave birth to a child near her, in the house.
und das eine Weib sagte: »Mit Vergunst, Herr! Ich und dieses Weib wohnen in demselben Hause, und ich gebar ein Kind in ihrer Gegenwart im Hause.
18 And it came to pass, the third day after I bare, that, this woman also, gave birth to a child, —we two, being together, there was no stranger with us in the house, none but we two in the house.
Da geschah es zwei Tage nach meiner Niederkunft, daß auch dieses Weib ein Kind gebar, und wir beide waren allein, kein Fremder war sonst bei uns im Hause, nur wir beide befanden uns im Hause.
19 And this woman’s son died in the night, —because she overlaid it.
Da starb das Kind dieses Weibes in der Nacht, weil sie es im Schlaf erdrückt hatte.
20 Then arose she, in the middle of the night, and took my son from beside me, while thy handmaid was sleeping, and laid it in her own besom, —but, her dead son, laid she in, my, bosom.
Sie aber stand mitten in der Nacht auf, nahm mein Kind von meiner Seite weg, während deine Magd schlief, und legte es an ihre Brust, dagegen ihr totes Kind legte sie mir in den Arm.
21 And, when I arose in the morning, to give suck unto my child, lo! it was dead! but, when I looked at it narrowly in the morning, lo! it was not, my son that I had borne.
Als ich nun gegen Morgen aufstand, um meinem Kinde die Brust zu geben, sah ich, daß es tot war; als ich es aber bei Tagesanbruch genau betrachtete, sah ich, daß es gar nicht mein Kind war, das ich geboren hatte.«
22 Then said the other woman—Nay! but, my son, is the, living, and, thy son, the, dead. But, this, one kept on saying—Nay, verily! but, thy son, is the, dead, and, my son, the, living. Thus spake they before the king.
Da sagte das andere Weib: »Nein, mein Kind ist das lebende, und dein Kind ist das tote!«, jene aber versicherte: »Nein, dein Kind ist das tote und mein Kind das lebende!« So stritten sie vor dem Könige.
23 Then said the king, The one woman, is saying, This, is, my son, the one that liveth, and, thy son, is, the one that is dead, —and, the other, is saying, Nay! but, thy son, is, the dead one, and, my son, the, living.
Da sagte der König: »Die eine behauptet: ›Dieses, das lebende Kind, gehört mir, und dein Kind ist das tote‹; die andere behauptet: ›Nein, dein Kind ist das tote und mein Kind das lebende!‹«
24 And the king said—Bring me a sword! So they brought a sword before the king.
Dann befahl der König: »Holt mir ein Schwert!« Als man nun das Schwert vor den König gebracht hatte,
25 Then said the king, Divide the living child, in twain, —and give half to the one, and half to the other.
befahl er: »Teilt das lebende Kind in zwei Teile und gebt dieser Frau die eine Hälfte und jener die andere Hälfte!«
26 Then spake the woman, whose was the living child, unto the king—for tender became her compassions over her son—so she said—Pardon, my lord! Give, her, the living child, and do not, kill, it. But the other kept on saying—Neither mine, nor thine, shall it be, divide it.
Da rief die Frau, der das lebende Kind gehörte – denn die mütterliche Liebe zu ihrem Kinde kam bei ihr zum Durchbruch –, dem König die Worte zu: »Mit Vergunst, Herr! Gebt ihr das lebende Kind und tötet es ja nicht!« Die andere aber rief: »Es soll weder mir noch dir gehören: zerteilt es!«
27 Then responded the king, and said—Give, her, the living child, ye shall not, kill, it, —she, is its mother.
Da entschied der König: »Die da, welche gerufen hat: ›Gebt ihr das lebende Kind und tötet es ja nicht!‹, die ist seine Mutter.«
28 And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had delivered, and they stood in awe before the king, —for they saw, that, the wisdom of God, was in him, to execute justice.
Als nun ganz Israel den Richterspruch vernahm, den der König gefällt hatte, fühlte man Ehrfurcht vor dem König, denn man erkannte, daß eine göttliche Weisheit in ihm wohnte, um Recht zu sprechen.
