1 Kings 21

1 And it came to pass, after these things, that Naboth the Jezreelite had, a vineyard, which was in Jezreel, —hard by the palace of Ahab, king of Samaria.

Or il arriva après ces choses, que Naboth Jizréhélite, ayant une vigne à Jizréhel, près du palais d'Achab, Roi de Samarie;

2 Ahab, therefore, spake unto Naboth, saying—Come! give me thy vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, for, the same, is near by my house, and let me give thee, instead thereof, a vineyard better than it, —if it be good in thine eyes, I will give thee silver to the value of this.

Achab parla à Naboth, et lui dit: Cède-moi ta vigne, afin que j'en fasse un jardin de verdure; car elle est proche de ma maison, et je t'en donnerai pour celle-là une meilleure; ou si cela t'accommode mieux, je t'en donnerai l'argent qu'elle vaut.

3 And Naboth said unto Ahab, —Far be it from me, of Yahweh! that I should give up the inheritance of my fathers, unto thee!

Mais Naboth répondit à Achab: A Dieu ne plaise que je te cède l'héritage de mes pères!

4 So Ahab came into his house, sullen and disturbed, because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken unto him, that he should have said, I will not give thee the inheritance of my fathers. So he laid him down upon his bed, and turned away his face, and did eat no food.

Et Achab vint en sa maison tout refrogné et indigné pour la parole que lui avait dite Naboth Jizréhélite, en disant: Je ne te céderai point l'héritage de mes pères; et il se coucha sur son lit, et tourna son visage, et ne mangea rien.

5 Then came unto him Jezebel his wife, —and said unto him—Why is it, that thy spirit is sullen, that thou art, not eating food?

Alors Izebel sa femme entra vers lui, et lui dit: D'où vient que ton esprit est si triste? et pourquoi ne manges-tu point?

6 And he said unto her—Because I spake unto Naboth, the Jezreelite, and said unto him—Come! give me thy vineyard for silver, or, if thou wouldst prefer, I will give thee a vineyard, in its stead; and he said—I will not give thee my vineyard.

Et il lui répondit: C'est parce qu'ayant parlé à Naboth Jizréhélite, et lui ayant dit: Donne-moi ta vigne pour de l'argent, ou si tu l'aimes mieux, je te donnerai une autre vigne pour celle-là, il m'a dit: Je ne te céderai point ma vigne.

7 Then Jezebel his wife said unto him: Art, thou, still, going to carry on the kingdom over Israel? Rise! eat food, and let thy heart be merry, I, will give thee the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite!

Alors Izebel sa femme lui dit: Serais-tu maintenant Roi sur Israël? Lève-toi, mange quelque chose, et que ton cœur se réjouisse; je te ferai avoir la vigne de Naboth Jizréhélite.

8 So she wrote letters, in the name of Ahab, and sealed them with his signet-ring, —and sent the letters unto the elders, and unto the nobles who were in his city, dwelling with Naboth.

Et elle écrivit des Lettres au nom d'Achab, les scella du sceau du Roi, et elle envoya ces Lettres aux Anciens et Magistrats qui étaient dans la ville de Naboth, et qui y demeuraient avec lui.

9 Now she wrote in the letters, saying, —Proclaim ye a fast, and cause Naboth to sit at the head of the people;

Et elle écrivit dans ces Lettres ce qui s'ensuit: Publiez le jeûne, et faites tenir Naboth au haut bout du peuple.

10 then let two reckless men take their seats before him, that they may bear witness against him, saying, Thou hast reviled God and king! then shall ye carry him forth and stone him, that he die.

Et faites tenir deux méchants hommes vis-à-vis de lui, et qu'ils témoignent contre lui, en disant: Tu as blasphémé contre Dieu, et [mal parlé] du Roi; puis vous le mènerez dehors, et vous le lapiderez, et qu'il meure.

11 So the men of his city, the elders and the nobles who dwelt in his city, did just as Jezebel had sent unto them, —as it was written in the letters which she had sent unto them:

Les gens donc de la ville de Naboth, [savoir] les Anciens et les Magistrats qui demeuraient dans sa ville, firent comme Izebel leur avait mandé, [et] selon qu'il était écrit dans les Lettres qu'elle leur avait envoyées.

12 they proclaimed a fast, —and caused Naboth to sit at the head of the people.

Car ils publièrent le jeûne, et firent tenir Naboth au haut bout du peuple.

13 Then came in the two reckless men, and sat before him, and the men bare witness against him, even against Naboth, before the people, saying, Naboth hath reviled God and king! So they carried him forth, outside the city, and stoned him with stones, that he died.

Et deux méchants hommes entrèrent, et se tinrent vis-à-vis de lui; et ces méchants hommes témoignèrent contre Naboth en la présence du peuple, en disant: Naboth a blasphémé contre Dieu, et il a [mal parlé] du Roi; puis ils le menèrent hors de la ville, et l'assommèrent de pierres, et il mourut.

14 Then sent they unto Jezebel, saying, —Naboth is stoned and is dead.

Après cela ils envoyèrent vers Izebel, pour lui dire: Naboth a été lapidé, et il est mort.

15 And it came to pass, when Jezebel heard that Naboth was stoned and was dead, that Jezebel said unto Ahab—Rise! take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give thee for silver, for Naboth is not alive, but dead!

Et il arriva qu'aussitôt qu'Izebel eut entendu que Naboth avait été lapidé, et qu'il était mort, elle dit à Achab: Lève-toi, mets-toi en possession de la vigne de Naboth Jizréhélite, qui avait refusé de te la donner pour de l'argent; car Naboth n'est plus en vie, mais il est mort.

16 And it came to pass, when Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, that Ahab arose, to go down unto the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, to take possession thereof.

Ainsi dès qu'Achab eut entendu que Naboth était mort, il se leva pour descendre en la vigne de Naboth Jizréhélite, et pour s'en mettre en possession.

17 Then came the word of Yahweh unto Elijah the Tishbite, saying:

Alors la parole de l'Eternel fut adressée à Elie Tisbite, en disant:

18 Arise! go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who is in Samaria, —lo! he is in the vineyard of Naboth, whither he hath gone down, to take possession thereof.

Lève-toi, descends au devant d'Achab Roi d'Israël, lorsqu'il sera à Samarie; voilà il est dans la vigne de Naboth, où il est descendu pour s'en mettre en possession.

19 Then shalt thou speak unto him, saying—Thus, saith Yahweh, Hast thou committed murder, and also taken possession? Then shalt thou speak unto him, saying: Thus, saith Yahweh, In the place where the dogs have lapped up the blood of Naboth, shall the dogs lap up thy blood, even thine.

Et tu lui parleras, en disant: Ainsi a dit l'Eternel: N'as-tu pas tué, et ne t'es-tu pas même mis en possession? Puis tu lui parleras ainsi, et diras: Ainsi a dit l'Eternel: Comme les chiens ont léché le sang de Naboth, les chiens lécheront aussi ton propre sang.

20 Then said Ahab unto Elijah, Hast thou found me, O mine enemy? And he said: I have found [thee]! Because thou hast sold thyself to do the thing that is wicked in the eyes of Yahweh,

Et Achab dit à Elie: M'as-tu trouvé toi, mon ennemi? Mais il lui répondit: Oui, je t'ai trouvé, parce que tu t'es vendu pour faire ce qui déplaît à l'Eternel.

21 Behold me! [saith he] bringing in upon thee, calamity, and I will consume after thee, —and cut off of Ahab, even the meanest, whether shut up or left at large in Israel;

Voici je m'en vais amener du mal sur toi, et je t'exterminerai entièrement; et depuis l'homme jusqu'à un chien, je retrancherai ce qui appartient à Achab, tant ce qui est serré, que ce qui est délaissé en Israël.

22 and will deliver up thy house—Like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha son of Ahijah, —for the provocation wherewith thou hast provoked, and caused, Israel, to sin.

Et je mettrai ta maison au même état que j'ai mis la maison de Jéroboam fils de Nébat, et la maison de Bahasa, fils d'Ahija à cause du péché par lequel tu m'as irrité, et as fait pécher Israël.

23 Moreover also, concerning Jezebel, hath Yahweh spoken, saying, —The dogs, shall eat Jezebel, in the town-land of Jezreel:

L'Eternel parla aussi contre Izebel, disant: Les chiens mangeront Izebel près du rempart de Jizréhel.

24 Him that dieth, of Ahab, in the city, shall, the dogs, eat, —and, him that dieth in the field, shall, the birds of heaven, eat.

Celui qui appartient à Achab, [et] qui mourra dans la ville, les chiens le mangeront; et celui qui mourra aux champs, les oiseaux des cieux le mangeront.

25 But indeed, there was none like Ahab, who sold himself to do the thing that was wicked in the eyes of Yahweh, —whom Jezebel his wife goaded on;

En effet il n'y en avait point eu de semblable à Achab, qui se fût vendu pour faire ce qui déplaît à l'Eternel, selon que sa femme Izebel l'induisait.

26 so that he did very abominably, in going after the manufactured gods, —according to all which the Amorites had done, whom Yahweh dispossessed from before the sons of Israel.

De sorte qu'il se rendit fort abominable, allant après les dieux de fiente, selon tout ce qu'avaient fait les Amorrhéens que l'Eternel avait chassés de devant les enfants d'Israël.

27 And it came to pass, when Ahab heard these words, that he rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his flesh, and fasted, —and lay in sackcloth, and went softly.

Et il arriva qu'aussitôt qu'Achab eut entendu ces paroles, il déchira ses vêtements, et mit un sac sur sa chair, et jeûna, et il se tenait couché, enveloppé d'un sac, et se traînait en marchant.

28 Then came the word of Yahweh unto Elijah the Tishbite, saying:

Et la parole de l'Eternel fut adressée à Elie Tisbite, en disant:

29 Hast thou seen that Ahab hath humbled himself, before me? Because he hath humbled himself before me, I will not bring in the calamity in his days, In the days of his son, will I bring in the calamity upon his house.

N'as-tu pas vu qu'Achab s'est humilié devant moi? [Or] parce qu'il s'est humilié devant moi, je n'amènerai point ce mal en son temps, ce sera aux jours de son fils que j'amènerai ce mal sur sa maison.
