1 Kings 20
1 Now, Ben-hadad, king of Syria, had gathered together all his forces, and, thirty-two kings, were with him, and horses and chariots, —then came he up, and laid siege to Samaria, and made war against it.
௧சீரியாவின் ராஜாவாகிய பெனாதாத் தன்னுடைய படையையெல்லாம் கூட்டிக்கொண்டுபோய், சமாரியாவை முற்றுகையிட்டு அதின்மேல் யுத்தம்செய்தான்; அவனோடு முப்பத்திரண்டு ராஜாக்கள் இருந்ததுமல்லாமல், குதிரைகளும் இரதங்களும் இருந்தது.
2 And he sent messengers unto Ahab king of Israel, into the city, and said to him, —Thus, saith Ben-hadad,
௨அவன் நகரத்திற்குள் இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவாகிய ஆகாபிடம் தூதுவர்களை அனுப்பி:
3 Thy silver and thy gold, are, mine, and, thy wives and thy sons, the goodliest, are, mine.
௩உன்னுடைய வெள்ளியும் உன்னுடைய பொன்னும் என்னுடையது; உன்னுடைய பெண்களும் உன்னுடைய மகன்களுக்குள் சிறந்தவர்களாக இருக்கிறவர்களும் என்னுடையவர்கள் என்று பெனாதாத் சொல்லுகிறான் என்று அவனுக்குச் சொல்லச்சொன்னான்.
4 Then responded the king of Israel, and said, According to thy word, my lord O king! thine, am I, and all that I have.
௪இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா அதற்கு மறுமொழியாக: ராஜாவாகிய என்னுடைய எஜமானனே, உம்முடைய வார்த்தையின்படியே, நானும் எனக்கு உண்டான யாவும் உம்முடையவைகள்தான் என்று சொல்லியனுப்பினான்.
5 And the messengers came back again, and said, Thus, speaketh Ben-hadad, saying, —Because I sent unto thee, saying, Thy silver and thy gold and thy wives and thy sons, to me, shalt thou give,
௫அந்த தூதுவர்கள் திரும்பவும் வந்து: பெனாதாத் சொல்லுகிறது என்னவென்றால், உன்னுடைய வெள்ளியையும், பொன்னையும், பெண்களையும், மகன்களையும் நீ எனக்குக் கொடுக்கவேண்டும் என்று உமக்குச் சொல்லியனுப்பினேனே.
6 Therefore, about this time to-morrow, will I send my servants unto thee, and they shall search thy house, and the houses of thy servants, —and it shall be, that, all the delight of thine eyes, shall they put in their hand, and take away.
௬ஆனாலும் நாளை இந்த நேரத்தில் என்னுடைய வேலைக்காரர்களை உன்னிடம் அனுப்புவேன்; அவர்கள் உன்னுடைய வீட்டையும் உன்னுடைய வேலைக்காரர்களின் வீடுகளையும் சோதித்து, உன்னுடைய கண்ணுக்குப் பிரியமானவைகள் எல்லாவற்றையும் தங்களுடைய கைகளில் எடுத்துக்கொண்டு போவார்கள் என்றார் என்று சொன்னார்கள்.
7 Then called the king of Israel, for all the elders of the land, and said—Mark, I pray you, and see, how this man is seeking, mischief, —for he had sent unto me, for my wives, and for my sons, and for my silver, and for my gold, and I refused him not.
௭அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா, தேசத்தின் மூப்பர்களையெல்லாம் அழைத்து: இவன் ஆபத்தைத் தேடுகிற விதத்தைக் கவனித்துப் பாருங்கள்; என்னுடைய பெண்களையும், என்னுடைய மகன்களையும், என்னுடைய வெள்ளியையும், என்னுடைய பொன்னையும் கேட்க, இவன் என்னிடம் ஆள் அனுப்பினபோது, நான் கொடுக்கமாட்டேன் என்று இவனுக்கு மறுக்கவில்லையே என்றான்.
8 And all the elders and all the people said unto him, —Do not thou hearken, neither do thou consent.
௮அப்பொழுது எல்லா மூப்பர்களும் எல்லா மக்களும் அவனைப் பார்த்து: நீர் அவனுடைய வார்த்தைகளைக் கேட்கவும், அவனுக்குச் சம்மதிக்கவும் வேண்டாம் என்றார்கள்.
9 So he said unto the messengers of Ben-hadad—Say ye to my lord the king, —All that thou didst send for, to thy servant at the first, will I do, but, this thing, I cannot do. And the messengers departed, and took him back word.
௯அதினால் அவன் பெனாதாத்தின் தூதுவர்களை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் ராஜாவாகிய என்னுடைய எஜமானுக்குச் சொல்லவேண்டியது என்னவென்றால், நீர் முதல்முறை உமது அடியானுக்குச் சொல்லியனுப்பின யாவும் செய்வேன்; இந்தக் காரியத்தையோ நான் செய்யக்கூடாது என்று சொல்லுங்கள் என்றான்; தூதுவர்கள் போய், இந்த மறுமொழியை அவனுக்குச் சொன்னார்கள்.
10 Then Ben-hadad sent unto him and said, —So, let the gods do to me, and, so, let them add, —if the dust of Samaria suffice by handfuls, for all the people who are at my feet.
௧0அப்பொழுது பெனாதாத் அவனிடம் ஆள் அனுப்பி: எனக்குப் பின்னே செல்லுகிற மக்கள் எல்லோரும் கைக்கு ஒரு பிடியாவது வாரிக்கொள்ள சமாரியாவின் தூள் போதுமானதாக இருந்தால், தெய்வங்கள் அதற்குச் சரியாகவும் அதற்கு அதிகமாகவும் எனக்குச் செய்யக்கடவர்கள் என்று சொல்லச்சொன்னான்.
11 And the king of Israel responded and said: Tell him, —Let not, him that girdeth, boast himself like him, that looseneth.
௧௧அதற்கு இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா மறுமொழியாக; ஆயுதம் அணிந்திருக்கிறவன், ஆயுதம் பிடுங்கிப் போடுகிறவனைப்போலப் பெருமைபாராட்டக்கூடாது என்று அவனுக்குச் சொல்லுங்கள் என்றான்.
12 And it came to pass, when he heard this message, as, he, was drinking, he and the kings in the pavilions, that he said unto his servants—Make ready! So they made ready, against the city.
௧௨பெனாதாத்தும், மற்ற ராஜாக்களும் கூடாரங்களிலே குடித்துக்கொண்டிருக்கும்போது, இந்த வார்த்தையைக் கேட்டு, தன்னுடைய ஆட்களை நோக்கி: யுத்தம் செய்ய ஆயத்தம்செய்யுங்கள் என்றான்; அப்படியே நகரத்தின்மேல் யுத்தம்செய்ய ஆயத்தம்செய்தார்கள்.
13 And lo! a certain prophet, drew near unto Ahab king of Israel, and said, —Thus, saith Yahweh, Hast thou seen all this great multitude? Behold me! delivering it into thy hand, to-day, so shalt thou know that, I, am, Yahweh.
௧௩அப்பொழுது ஒரு தீர்க்கதரிசி இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவாகிய ஆகாபிடம் வந்து: அந்த ஏராளமான மக்கள்கூட்டத்தையெல்லாம் கண்டாயா? இதோ, நானே யெகோவா என்று நீ அறியும்படி இன்றைக்கு அதை உன்னுடைய கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுப்பேன் என்று யெகோவா சொல்லுகிறார் என்றான்.
14 And Ahab said—By whom? And he said—Thus, saith Yahweh, By the young men of the princes of the provinces. Then said he—Who shall begin the war? And he said—Thou!
௧௪யாரைக்கொண்டு என்று ஆகாப் கேட்டான்; அதற்கு அவன்: மாகாணங்களுடைய அதிபதிகளின் வீரர்களைக்கொண்டு என்று யெகோவா சொல்லுகிறார் என்றான்; பின்பு அவன், யுத்தத்தை யார் துவக்கவேண்டும் என்று கேட்டதற்கு; அவன், நீர்தான் என்றான்.
15 Then numbered he the young men of the princes of the provinces, and they were found to be, two hundred and thirty-two, —and, after them, he numbered all the people all the sons of Israel, seven thousand.
௧௫அவன் மாகாணங்களுடைய அதிபதிகளின் வீரர்களை எண்ணிப்பார்த்தான், அவர்கள் 232 பேர்; அவர்களுக்குப்பின்பு, இஸ்ரவேல் மக்களாகிய எல்லா மக்களின் எண்ணிக்கையும் பார்த்து 7,000 பேர் என்று கண்டான்.
16 And they went forth at noon. Now, Ben-hadad, was drinking himself drunk, in the pavilions, he and the thirty-two kings helping him.
௧௬அவர்கள் மத்தியான வேளையிலே வெளியே புறப்பட்டார்கள்; பெனாதாத்தும், அவனுக்கு உதவியாக வந்த 32 ராஜாக்களாகிய மற்ற ராஜாக்களும், கூடாரங்களில் குடிவெறி கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்.
17 Then went forth the young men of the princes of the provinces, first, —and, when Ben-hadad sent, they told him, saying—Men, have come forth, out of Samaria.
௧௭மாகாணங்களுடைய அதிபதிகளின் வீரர்கள் முதலில் புறப்படுகிறபோது, பெனாதாத் அனுப்பின மனிதர்கள்: சமாரியாவிலிருந்து மனிதர்கள் புறப்பட்டு வருகிறார்கள் என்று அவனுக்கு அறிவித்தார்கள்.
18 And he said—If, peaceably, they have come, take them alive, —or, if, fighting, they have come, alive, take ye them.
௧௮அப்பொழுது அவன்: அவர்கள் சமாதானத்திற்காகப் புறப்பட்டு வந்தாலும் அவர்களை உயிரோடு பிடியுங்கள்; அவர்கள் யுத்தத்திற்காகப் புறப்பட்டு வந்தாலும் அவர்களை உயிரோடு பிடியுங்கள் என்றான்.
19 Now, when, these, had come forth out of the city, even the young men of the princes of the provinces, —with the force which was following them,
௧௯மாகாணங்களுடைய அதிபதிகளின் வீரர்களான அவர்களும், அவர்கள் பின்னே வருகிற இராணுவமும், நகரத்திலிருந்து வெளியே வந்தபோது,
20 then smote they every one his man, and the Syrians fled, and Israel pursued them, —but Ben-hadad king of Syria escaped on horse, with horsemen.
௨0அவர்கள் அவரவர் தங்களுக்கு எதிர்ப்பட்டவர்களை வெட்டினார்கள்; சீரியர்கள் பயந்தோடிப் போனார்கள்; இஸ்ரவேலர்கள் அவர்களைத் துரத்தினார்கள்; சீரியாவின் ராஜாவாகிய பெனாதாத், குதிரையின்மேல் ஏறிச் சில குதிரை வீரர்களோடு தப்பியோடிப்போனான்.
21 And the king of Israel went forth, and took the horses and the chariots, —and he went on smiting the Syrians, with a great smiting.
௨௧இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா புறப்பட்டு, குதிரைகளையும், இரதங்களையும் தாக்கி, சீரியர்களில் பெரிய அழிவு உண்டாக வெட்டினான்.
22 Then drew near the prophet, unto the king of Israel, and said unto him—Go strengthen thyself, and mark and see, what thou wilt do, —for, at the return of the year, is, the king of Syria, coming up against thee.
௨௨பின்பு அந்தத் தீர்க்கதரிசி இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவினிடம் வந்து, அவனை நோக்கி: நீர் போய் உம்மைப் பலப்படுத்திக்கொண்டு, நீர் செய்யவேண்டியது என்னவென்று கவனித்துப்பாரும்; அடுத்த வருடத்திலே சீரியாவின் ராஜா உமக்கு எதிராக வருவான் என்றான்.
23 And, the servants of the king of Syria, said unto him, —Gods of the mountains, are their gods, for this cause, prevailed they against us, —but, only let us fight with them in the plain, and verily we shall prevail against them.
௨௩சீரியாவின் ராஜாவுடைய வேலைக்காரர்கள் அவனைப் பார்த்து: அவர்களுடைய தெய்வங்கள் மலைத்தெய்வங்கள், அதினால் அவர்கள் நம்மை மேற்கொண்டார்கள்; நாம் அவர்களோடு சமபூமியிலே யுத்தம்செய்தால் நல்லது; அப்பொழுது அவர்களை மேற்கொள்வது நிச்சயம்.
24 But, this thing, do, —set aside the kings, every man out of his place, and put governors in their stead;
௨௪அதற்காக நீர் செய்யவேண்டியது என்னவென்றால், இந்த ராஜாக்கள் ஒவ்வொருவரையும் தங்களுடைய இடத்திலிருந்து மாற்றி, அவர்களுக்குப் பதிலாக வீரர்களை ஏற்படுத்தி;
25 and, thou, must number thee a force, like the force which thou hast lost, both horse for horse and chariot for chariot, and, if we fight with them in the plain, verily we shall prevail against them. And he hearkened unto their voice, and did so.
௨௫நீர் சாகக்கொடுத்த வீரர்களுக்குச் சரியாக வீரர்களையும், அந்தக் குதிரைகளுக்குச் சரியாகக் குதிரைகளையும், இரதங்களுக்குச் சரியாக இரதங்களையும் எண்ணிப் பார்த்துக்கொள்ளும்; பிற்பாடு சமபூமியிலே நாம் அவர்களோடு யுத்தம்செய்து, நிச்சயமாக அவர்களை மேற்கொள்வோம் என்றார்கள்; அவன் அவர்கள் சொற்கேட்டு அப்படியே செய்தான்.
26 And so it came to pass at the return of the year, that Ben-hadad numbered the Syrians, —and came up to Aphek, to fight with Israel;
௨௬அடுத்த வருடத்திலே பெனாதாத் சீரியர்களை எண்ணிப் பார்த்து, இஸ்ரவேலோடு யுத்தம்செய்ய ஆப்பெக்குக்கு வந்தான்.
27 and, the sons of Israel, were numbered, and provisioned, and went to meet them, —and the sons of Israel encamped before them like two little flocks of goats, whereas, the Syrians, filled the land.
௨௭இஸ்ரவேல் மக்களும் எண்ணிக்கை பார்க்கப்பட்டு, தேவையானதைச் சம்பாதித்துக்கொண்டு, அவர்களை எதிர்க்கப் புறப்பட்டு, அவர்களுக்கு எதிரே இரண்டு சிறிய வெள்ளாட்டு மந்தையைப்போல முகாமிட்டார்கள்; தேசம் சீரியர்களால் நிறைந்திருந்தது.
28 Then approached the man of God, and spake unto the king of Israel, and said—Thus, saith Yahweh—Because the Syrians have said—A god of the mountains, is Yahweh, but, not a god of the vales, is he, therefore will I deliver all this great multitude, into thy hand, so shalt thou know, that, I, am Yahweh.
௨௮அப்பொழுது தேவனுடைய மனிதன் ஒருவன் வந்து, இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவைப் பார்த்து: யெகோவா பள்ளத்தாக்குகளின் தேவனாக இல்லாமல், மலைகளின் தேவனாயிருக்கிறார் என்று சீரியர்கள் சொல்லியிருக்கிறபடியால், நான் இந்த ஏராளமான மக்கள் கூட்டத்தையெல்லாம் உன்னுடைய கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தேன்; அதினால் நானே யெகோவா என்று நீங்கள் அறிவீர்கள் என்று யெகோவா சொல்லுகிறார் என்றான்.
29 So they encamped, these, over against, those, seven days, —and it came to pass, on the seventh day, that the battle was joined, and the sons of Israel smote the Syrians, a hundred thousand footmen, in one day.
௨௯ஏழுநாட்கள்வரை அவர்கள் நேருக்கு நேராக முகாமிட்டிருந்தார்கள்; ஏழாம் நாளில் யுத்தம் துவங்கி, இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள் ஒரே நாளிலே சீரியர்களில் ஒரு 1,00,000 காலாட்களைக் கொன்றுபோட்டார்கள்.
30 And they who were left fled to Aphek, into the city, and the wall fell upon twenty-seven thousand men who were left, —and, Ben-hadad, fled, and came into the city, into a chamber within a chamber.
௩0மீதியானவர்கள் ஆப்பெக் பட்டணத்திற்குள் ஓடிப்போனார்கள்; அங்கே மீதியாக இருந்த 27,000 பேரின்மேல் மதில் இடிந்து விழுந்தது; பெனாதாத்தும் ஓடிப்போய் நகரத்திற்குள் புகுந்து, உள்ளறையில் பதுங்கினான்.
31 And his servants said unto him, Lo! we pray thee, we have heard, of the kings of the house of Israel, that, kings known for lovingkindness, they are. Let us, we pray thee, put sackcloth upon our loins, and ropes about our head, and let us go forth unto the king of Israel, peradventure he will save alive thy soul.
௩௧அப்பொழுது அவனுடைய வேலைக்காரர்கள் அவனை நோக்கி: இதோ, இஸ்ரவேல் வம்சத்து ராஜாக்கள் தயவுள்ள ராஜாக்கள் என்று கேட்டிருக்கிறோம்; நாங்கள் சணலாடைகளை எங்களுடைய இடுப்புகளில் கட்டி, கயிறுகளை எங்களுடைய தலைகளில் சுற்றிக்கொண்டு, இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவிடம் போவோம்; ஒருவேளை உம்மை உயிரோடு வைப்பார் என்று சொல்லி,
32 So they girded sackcloth upon their loins, and [put] ropes about their heads, and came in unto the king of Israel, and said, Thy servant, Ben-hadad, saith, —Let my soul live, I pray thee. And he said, —Is he yet alive? My brother, he is.
௩௨சணலாடைகளைத் தங்களுடைய இடுப்புகளில் கட்டி, கயிறுகளைத் தங்களுடைய தலைகளில் சுற்றிக்கொண்டு, இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவிடம் வந்து: என்னை உயிரோடு வையும் என்று உமது அடியானாகிய பெனாதாத் விண்ணப்பம்செய்கிறான் என்றார்கள். அதற்கு அவன், இன்னும் அவன் உயிரோடு இருக்கிறானா, அவன் என்னுடைய சகோதரன் என்றான்.
33 Now, the men, could divine, so they hastened to let him confirm the word of his own accord, and they said, —Thy brother, is Ben-hadad! He said therefore, —Go fetch him. So Ben-hadad came forth unto him, and he made him come up unto him on his chariot.
௩௩அந்த மனிதர்கள் நன்றாய்க் கவனித்து, அவன் வாயின்சொல்லை உடனே பிடித்து: உமது சகோதரனாகிய பெனாதாத் இருக்கிறான் என்றார்கள்; அப்பொழுது அவன்: நீங்கள் போய், அவனை அழைத்துக்கொண்டு வாருங்கள் என்றான்; பெனாதாத் அவனிடம் வந்தபோது, அவனைத் தன்னுடைய இரதத்தில் ஏற்றிக்கொண்டான்.
34 And he said unto him—The cities which my father took from thy father, will I restore, and, bazaars, shalt thou make thee in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. So then, I, with this covenant, will let thee go. So he solemnised with him a covenant, and let him go.
௩௪அப்பொழுது பெனாதாத் இவனைப்பார்த்து: என்னுடைய தகப்பன் உம்முடைய தகப்பனார் கையிலே பிடித்த பட்டணங்களைத் திரும்பக் கொடுத்துவிடுகிறேன்; என்னுடைய தகப்பன் சமாரியாவிலே செய்ததுபோல, நீரும் தமஸ்குவிலே வீதிகளை உண்டாக்கிக்கொள்ளலாம் என்றான். அதற்கு அவன், இந்த உடன்படிக்கை செய்து நான் உம்மை அனுப்பிவிடுகிறேன் என்று சொல்லி, அவனோடு உடன்படிக்கைசெய்து அவனை அனுப்பிவிட்டான்.
35 And, a certain man of the sons of the prophets, said unto his neighbour, by the word of Yahweh—Smite me, I pray thee. But the man refused to smite him.
௩௫அப்பொழுது தீர்க்கதரிசிகளின் மகன்களில் ஒருவன் யெகோவாவுடைய வார்த்தையின்படி தன்னுடைய நண்பனை நோக்கி: நீ என்னை அடி என்றான்; அந்த மனிதன் அவனைப் பார்த்து அடிக்கமாட்டேன் என்றான்.
36 So he said to him—Because thou hast not hearkened unto the voice of Yahweh, lo! when thou art departing from me, there shall smite thee a lion. And when he departed from beside him, a lion found him, and smote him.
௩௬அப்பொழுது அவன் இவனைப் பார்த்து: நீ யெகோவாவுடைய சத்தத்திற்குக் கீழ்ப்படியாமல் போனதால், இதோ, நீ என்னைவிட்டுப் புறப்பட்டுப் போனவுடனே ஒரு சிங்கம் உன்னைக் கொல்லும் என்றான்; அப்படியே இவன் அவனைவிட்டுப் புறப்பட்டவுடனே, ஒரு சிங்கம் இவனைக் கண்டு கொன்றுபோட்டது.
37 Then found he another man, and said, —Smite me, I pray thee. So the man smote him—kept on smiting and wounding.
௩௭அதின்பின்பு அவன் வேறொருவனைக் கண்டு: என்னை அடி என்றான்; அந்த மனிதன், அவனைக் காயமுண்டாக அடித்தான்.
38 Then the prophet departed, and waited for the king, by the way, —and disguised himself with his turban over his eyes.
௩௮அப்பொழுது அந்தத் தீர்க்கதரிசி போய், தன்னுடைய முகத்தின்மேல் சாம்பலைப் போட்டு, மாறுவேடமிட்டு வழியிலே ராஜாவுக்காகக் காத்திருந்தான்.
39 And so it was, when, the king, was passing, he, cried out unto the king, —and said—Thy servant, went out in the midst of the battle, and lo! a man, turned aside and brought unto me a man, and said—Keep this man, if he be, missing, then shall, thy life, go for, his life, or, a talent of silver, shalt thou weigh out.
௩௯ராஜா அவ்வழியாக வருகிறபோது, இவன் ராஜாவைப் பார்த்துக் கூப்பிட்டு: உமது அடியான் யுத்தத்தில் நின்றபோது, ஒருவன் விலகி, என்னிடத்தில் ஒருவனைக் கொண்டுவந்து, இந்த மனிதனைப் பாதுகாப்பாக வைத்திரு; இவன் தப்பிப்போனால் உன்னுடைய உயிர் அவன் உயிருக்குச்சமமாக இருக்கும், அல்லது ஒரு தாலந்து வெள்ளியை நீ கொடுக்கவேண்டும் என்றான்.
40 And so it was, as thy servant was busy here and there, that, he, was gone. And the king of Israel said unto him—Such, is thy judgment, thou thyself, hast decided it.
௪0ஆனாலும் உமது அடியான் இங்கும் அங்கும் வேலையாக இருக்கும்போது, அவன் போய்விட்டான் என்றான். இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா அவனைப் பார்த்து: நீ சொன்ன தீர்ப்பின்படியே ஆகும் என்றான்.
41 Then hastened he, and removed the turban from over his eyes, —and the king of Israel knew him, that, of the prophets, was, he.
௪௧அப்பொழுது அவன் சீக்கிரமாகத் தன்னுடைய முகத்தின் மேலிருக்கும் சாம்பலைத் துடைத்துவிட்டதால், இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா அவன் தீர்க்கதரிசிகளில் ஒருவன் என்று அறிந்துகொண்டான்.
42 And he said unto him—Thus, saith Yahweh, Because thou hast let go the man whom I had devoted, out of thy hand, therefore shall, thy life, be instead of, his life, and, thy people, instead of, his people.
௪௨அப்பொழுது இவன் அவனை நோக்கி: கொலைசெய்வதற்கு நான் நியமித்த மனிதனை உன்னுடைய கையிலிருந்து தப்பிப்போகும்படி நீ விட்டதால், உன்னுடைய உயிர் அவனுடைய உயிருக்கு ஈடாகவும், உன்னுடைய மக்கள் அவனுடைய மக்களுக்கு இணையாகவும் இருக்கும் என்று யெகோவா சொல்லுகிறார் என்றான்.
43 And the king of Israel departed unto his house, sullen and disturbed, —and entered Samaria.
