1 Kings 17
1 Then said Elijah the Tishbite, of Tishbe in Gilead, unto Ahab, By the life of Yahweh, God of Israel, before whom I stand, there shall not, these two years, be either dew or rain, —save at the bidding of my word.
Şi Ilie tişbitul, care era dintre locuitorii Galaadului, i-a spus lui Ahab: Precum DOMNUL Dumnezeul lui Israel trăieşte, înaintea căruia stau în picioare, nu va fi nici rouă nici ploaie în anii aceştia, decât conform cuvântului meu.
2 Then came the word of Yahweh unto him, saying:
Şi cuvântul DOMNULUI a venit la el, spunând:
3 Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, —and hide thyself in the ravine of Cherith, which faceth the Jordan;
Du-te de aici şi întoarce-te spre est şi ascunde-te lângă pârâul Cherit, care este înaintea Iordanului.
4 and it shall be that, of the torrent, shalt thou drink, —and, the ravens, have I commanded to sustain thee, there.
Şi se va întâmpla, că vei bea din pârâu şi am poruncit corbilor să te hrănească acolo.
5 So he went and did, according to the word of Yahweh, —yea he went and dwelt in the ravine of Cherith, which faceth the Jordan.
Astfel el a mers şi a făcut conform cuvântului DOMNULUI; fiindcă a mers şi a locuit lângă pârâul Cherit, care este înaintea Iordanului.
6 And, the ravens, used to bring him bread and flesh, in the morning, and bread and flesh, in the evening, —and, of the torrent, used he to drink.
Şi corbii i-au adus pâine şi carne dimineaţa şi pâine şi carne seara; şi el a băut din pârâu.
7 But it came to pass, at the end of [certain] days, that the torrent dried up, —because there had been no rain in the land.
Şi s-a întâmplat după un timp, că pârâul a secat, pentru că nu fusese ploaie în ţară.
8 Then came the word of Yahweh unto him, saying—
Şi cuvântul DOMNULUI a venit la el, spunând:
9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there, —Lo! I have commanded, there, a widow woman, to sustain thee.
Ridică-te, mergi la Sarepta, care aparţine de Sidon, şi locuieşte acolo; iată, am poruncit unei femei văduve de acolo să te sprijine.
10 So he arose and went to Zarephath, and, when he came to the entrance of the city, lo! there, a widow woman gathering sticks, —and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.
Astfel el s-a ridicat şi a mers la Sarepta. Şi când a venit la poarta cetăţii, iată, femeia văduvă era acolo strângând vreascuri; şi el a strigat către ea şi a spus: Adu-mi, te rog, puţină apă într-un vas, ca să beau.
11 And, as she went to fetch it, he called to her and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread, in thy hand.
Şi pe când ea mergea să îi aducă, el a strigat către ea şi a spus: Adu-mi, te rog, o bucată de pâine în mâna ta.
12 And she said—By the life of Yahweh, thy God, verily I have not a cake, only a handful of meal in the jar, and a little oil in the cruse, —and lo! I have been gathering a couple of sticks, so I shall go in and make it ready for me and for my son, that we may eat it—and die!
Iar ea a spus: Precum DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău trăieşte, o turtă nu am, ci o mână plină de făină într-un vas şi puţin untdelemn într-un ulcior; şi, iată, strâng două vreascuri, ca să intru şi să o pregătesc pentru mine şi pentru fiul meu, ca să o mâncăm şi să murim.
13 And Elijah said unto her—Do not fear, go in—make ready according to thy word, —howbeit, make me thereof a little cake, first, and bring it out to me, and, for thyself and thy son, make ready, afterwards.
Şi Ilie i-a spus: Nu te teme; mergi şi fă precum ai spus; dar fă-mi din ea întâi mie o mică turtă şi adu-mi-o; şi după aceea fă pentru tine şi pentru fiul tău.
14 For, thus, saith Yahweh, God of Israel, The jar of meal, shall not waste, and, the cruse of oil, shall not fail, —until the day that Yahweh giveth rain upon the face of the ground.
Pentru că astfel spune DOMNUL Dumnezeul lui Israel: Vasul făinii nu se va mistui, nici ulciorul de untdelemn nu se va sfârşi, până în ziua în care DOMNUL va trimite ploaie pe pământ.
15 So she went and made ready, according to the word of Elijah, —and did eat, she, and he, and her house, [certain] days:
Şi ea a mers şi a făcut conform spusei lui Ilie; şi ea şi el şi casa ei au mâncat multe zile.
16 The jar of meal, did not waste, —and, the cruse of oil, did not fail, —according to the word of Yahweh, which he spake through Elijah.
Şi vasul făinii nu s-a terminat, nici urciorul de untdelemn nu s-a sfârşit, conform cuvântului DOMNULUI, pe care îl spusese prin Ilie.
17 And it came to pass, after these things, that the son of the woman, owner of the house, fell sick, —yea it came to pass that his sickness was very severe, until no, breath, was left in him.
Şi s-a întâmplat după aceste lucruri, că fiul femeii, stăpâna casei, s-a îmbolnăvit; şi boala lui a fost grea, încât nu a mai rămas suflare în el.
18 Then said she unto Elijah, What have I in common with thee, O man of God? Hast thou come unto me, to call to remembrance mine iniquity, and to cause the death of my son?
Şi ea i-a spus lui Ilie: Ce am eu a face cu tine, o tu, om al lui Dumnezeu? Ai venit la mine ca să aduci în amintire păcatul meu şi să ucizi pe fiul meu?
19 And he said unto her—Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him unto the upper room, where, he, was staying, and laid him upon his own bed.
Şi el i-a spus: Dă-mi pe fiul tău. Şi el l-a luat de la sânul ei şi l-a dus în camera de sus, unde locuia el, şi l-a culcat pe propriul lui pat.
20 Then cried he unto Yahweh, and said, —O Yahweh, my God! Even upon the widow with whom I am sojourning, hast thou brought misfortune by causing the death of her son?
Şi a strigat către DOMNUL şi a spus: DOAMNE Dumnezeul meu, ai adus răul şi peste văduva la care locuiesc temporar, ucigând pe fiul ei?
21 And he stretched himself out upon the boy, three times, and cried unto Yahweh, and said, —O Yahweh, my God! Let the life of this boy, I pray thee, come again within him.
Şi s-a întins peste copil de trei ori şi a strigat către DOMNUL şi a spus: DOAMNE Dumnezeul meu, te rog, să se întoarcă sufletul acestui copil în el.
22 And Yahweh hearkened unto the voice of Elijah, —and the life of the boy came again within him, and he lived.
Şi DOMNUL a auzit vocea lui Ilie; şi sufletul copilului s-a întors înapoi în el şi el a trăit.
23 Then Elijah took the boy, and carried him down out of the upper room, into the house, and gave him to his mother, —and Elijah said, See! thy son liveth.
Şi Ilie a luat copilul şi l-a adus din cameră în casă şi l-a dat mamei sale; şi Ilie a spus: Vezi, fiul tău trăieşte.
24 And the woman said unto Elijah, Now, then I know, that, a man of God, thou art, —and that, the word of Yahweh, is in thy mouth, of a truth.
Şi femeia i-a spus lui Ilie: Acum prin aceasta cunosc că eşti un om al lui Dumnezeu şi cuvântul DOMNULUI în gura ta este adevăr.
