< 1 Kings 17 >

1 Then said Elijah the Tishbite, of Tishbe in Gilead, unto Ahab, By the life of Yahweh, God of Israel, before whom I stand, there shall not, these two years, be either dew or rain, —save at the bidding of my word.
2 Then came the word of Yahweh unto him, saying:
Te phoeiah anih taengla BOEIPA ol ha pawk tih,
3 Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, —and hide thyself in the ravine of Cherith, which faceth the Jordan;
“Nang te He lamloh cet laeh, khothoeng la mael lamtah Jordan rhaldan kah Kerith soklong ah thuh uh.
4 and it shall be that, of the torrent, shalt thou drink, —and, the ravens, have I commanded to sustain thee, there.
Soklong kah tui te o lamtah nang aka cangbam ham vangak ka uen coeng,” a ti nah.
5 So he went and did, according to the word of Yahweh, —yea he went and dwelt in the ravine of Cherith, which faceth the Jordan.
Te dongah cet tih BOEIPA ol bangla a saii. Cet tih Jordan rhaldan kah Kertih soklong ah kho a sak.
6 And, the ravens, used to bring him bread and flesh, in the morning, and bread and flesh, in the evening, —and, of the torrent, used he to drink.
Vangak loh anih ham te mincang ah buh neh maeh, hlaem vaengah khaw buh neh maeh a thak pah tih soklong lamkah tui te a ok.
7 But it came to pass, at the end of [certain] days, that the torrent dried up, —because there had been no rain in the land.
Khohmuen ah khonal a om pawt dongah khohnin a thok vaengah soklong khaw kak.
8 Then came the word of Yahweh unto him, saying—
Te vaengah BOEIPA ol te anih taengla cet tih,
9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there, —Lo! I have commanded, there, a widow woman, to sustain thee.
“Thoo, Sidon kah Zarepthah la cet. Teah te khosa lamtah nang aka cangbam ham nuhmai nu pahoi ka uen coeng ne,” a ti nah.
10 So he arose and went to Zarephath, and, when he came to the entrance of the city, lo! there, a widow woman gathering sticks, —and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.
Te dongah thoo tih Zarepthah la cet. Khopuei thohka te a pha vaengah nuhmai nu loh thingpaem tarha ana coi. Anih te a khue tih, “Kai hamla Tuitang dongah tui bet hang khuen mai lamtah ka o lah eh,” a ti nah.
11 And, as she went to fetch it, he called to her and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread, in thy hand.
Tui than la a caeh vaengah anih te koep a khue tih, “Kai hamla na kut dongkah buh kamat hang khuen mai,” a ti nah.
12 And she said—By the life of Yahweh, thy God, verily I have not a cake, only a handful of meal in the jar, and a little oil in the cruse, —and lo! I have been gathering a couple of sticks, so I shall go in and make it ready for me and for my son, that we may eat it—and die!
Te vaengah, “Nang kah Pathen BOEIPA tah hingnah ni. Canghaek khuikah vaidam kutvang a bae neh tui um dongkah situi a yol bueng he kai taengah buh a om pawn khaming. Thingpaem panit ka coi he khaw ka cet vetih kamah ham neh ka capa ham te te ka thong ni. Te phoeiah ka caak rhoi vetih ka duek rhoi mai bitni,” a ti nah.
13 And Elijah said unto her—Do not fear, go in—make ready according to thy word, —howbeit, make me thereof a little cake, first, and bring it out to me, and, for thyself and thy son, make ready, afterwards.
Tedae Elijah loh anih te, “Rhih boeh, paan lamtah na ol bangla saii. Tedae buh a yol khaw lamhma la kai ham saii lamtah kai taengla han khuen. Te phoeiah namah ham neh na capa ham tah a hnong a yai la saii.
14 For, thus, saith Yahweh, God of Israel, The jar of meal, shall not waste, and, the cruse of oil, shall not fail, —until the day that Yahweh giveth rain upon the face of the ground.
Israel Pathen BOEIPA loh he ni a thui. BOEIPA loh diklai hman ah khonal a paek la a paek tue hlan atah vaidam canghaek khaw muei pawt vetih situi um khaw kak mahpawh,” a ti nah.
15 So she went and made ready, according to the word of Elijah, —and did eat, she, and he, and her house, [certain] days:
Cet tih Elijah ol bangla a saii dongah amah neh, amah phoeiah Elijah neh a imkhui loh a tue yet a caak.
16 The jar of meal, did not waste, —and, the cruse of oil, did not fail, —according to the word of Yahweh, which he spake through Elijah.
Vaidam canghaek te ko pawt tih situi um khaw Elijah kut ah a thui BOEIPA ol bangla kak tlaih pawh.
17 And it came to pass, after these things, that the son of the woman, owner of the house, fell sick, —yea it came to pass that his sickness was very severe, until no, breath, was left in him.
He ol a om phoeiah im kung nu kah a capa te tlo. A tloh te bahoeng nul coeng tih a khuiah a hiil pataeng om pawh.
18 Then said she unto Elijah, What have I in common with thee, O man of God? Hast thou come unto me, to call to remembrance mine iniquity, and to cause the death of my son?
Te dongah Elijah te, “Kai taeng neh nang taengah balae aka om? Pathen kah hlang aw kai kathaesainah thoelh ham neh ka capa duek sak ham nim kai taengla na pawk?” a ti nah.
19 And he said unto her—Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him unto the upper room, where, he, was staying, and laid him upon his own bed.
Tedae huta te, “Na capa te kai taengla m'pae,” a ti nah. Te phoeiah a rhang dong lamkah camoe a loh pah. Amah a om nah imhman la a khuen tih amah kah baiphaih dongah a yalh sak.
20 Then cried he unto Yahweh, and said, —O Yahweh, my God! Even upon the widow with whom I am sojourning, hast thou brought misfortune by causing the death of her son?
Te phoeiah BOEIPA te a khue tih, “Ka Pathen BOEIPA aw, a taengah ka bakuep vaengah a capa te duek sak ham nuhmai soah khaw thae na huet a?” a ti nah.
21 And he stretched himself out upon the boy, three times, and cried unto Yahweh, and said, —O Yahweh, my God! Let the life of this boy, I pray thee, come again within him.
Camoe dongah voei thum bakop tih BOEIPA te a khue. Te vaengah ah, “Ka Pathen BOEIPA aw, camoe kah a hinglu he a khui la ham mael sak laeh,” a ti nah.
22 And Yahweh hearkened unto the voice of Elijah, —and the life of the boy came again within him, and he lived.
Elijah ol te BOEIPA loh a yaak dongah camoe kah hinglu te a khui la mael tih hing.
23 Then Elijah took the boy, and carried him down out of the upper room, into the house, and gave him to his mother, —and Elijah said, See! thy son liveth.
Elijah loh camoe te a loh tih imhman lamloh im khuila a suntlak puei. A manu taengah a paek tih Elijah loh, “Na capa kah a hingnah he so lah,” a ti nah.
24 And the woman said unto Elijah, Now, then I know, that, a man of God, thou art, —and that, the word of Yahweh, is in thy mouth, of a truth.
Te vaengah huta loh Elijah te, “Nang tah Pathen kah hlang tih na ka lamkah BOEIPA ol he oltak la ka ming coeng he,” a ti nah.
