1 Kings 15

1 Now, in the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam son of Nebat, began Abijah to reign over Judah.

C’Est dans la dix-huitième année du règne de Jéroboam, fils de Nebat, qu’Abiam devint roi de Juda.

2 Three years, reigned he in Jerusalem, —and, the name of his mother, was Maachah, daughter of Abishalom.

Il régna trois ans à Jérusalem. Sa mère se nommait Maakha, fille d’Abichalom.

3 And he walked in all the sins of his father which he had done before him, —and his heart was not blameless with Yahweh his God, like the heart of David his father.

Il se rendit coupable de tous les péchés que son père avait commis avant lui, et son cœur n’appartint pas sans partage à l’Eternel, son Dieu, comme le cœur de son aïeul David.

4 But, for the sake of David, did Yahweh his God give him a lamp, in Jerusalem, —by raising up a son of his after him, and by suffering Jerusalem to stand;

Car, c’est en faveur de David que l’Eternel, son Dieu, lui avait accordé un domaine en Jérusalem, voulant conserver son descendant après lui et assurer la durée de Jérusalem;

5 because David did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh, —and turned not aside from anything that he commanded him, all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.

parce que David avait fait ce qui est droit aux yeux de l’Eternel et n’avait contrevenu, toute sa vie, à aucune de ses prescriptions, à part l’affaire d’Urie, le Héthéen.

6 And there was, war, between Rehoboam and Jeroboam, all the days of his life.

Il y eut guerre entre Roboam et Jéroboam tout le temps de sa vie.

7 Now, the rest of the story of Abijah and all that he did, are, they, not written in the book of Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? And there was, war, between Abijah and Jeroboam.

Pour le surplus des faits et gestes d’Abiam, ils sont mentionnés dans le livre des annales des rois de Juda, ainsi que la guerre entre Abiam et Jéroboam.

8 So then Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David, —and, Asa his son, reigned, in his stead.

Abiam reposa avec ses pères, et fut enseveli dans la Cité de David. Asa, son fils, lui succéda.

9 Now, in the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel, began Asa to reign as king of Judah;

C’Est dans la vingtième année du règne de Jéroboam sur Israël qu’Asa devint roi de Juda.

10 and, forty-one years, reigned he in Jerusalem, —and, the name of his mother, was Maachah, daughter of Abishalom.

Il régna quarante et un ans à Jérusalem. Le nom de sa mère était Maakha, fille d’Abichalom.

11 And Asa did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh, —like David his father;

Asa fit ce qui est agréable au Seigneur, à l’exemple de son aïeul David.

12 and he put away the male devotees out of the land, —and removed all the idols that his fathers had made.

Il fit disparaître du pays ceux qui se prostituaient, et il en éloigna toutes les impures idoles faites par ses pères.

13 Moreover also, even Maachah his mother, he removed from being queen, because she had made a monstrous thing to the Sacred Stem, —and Asa cut down her monstrous thing and burned it in the Kidron ravine.

Il destitua même de la régence sa mère Maakha, qui avait consacré une image à Achéra; par l’ordre d’Asa, cette image fut abattue et brûlée dans la vallée de Cédron.

14 But, the high places, removed he not, —nevertheless, the heart of Asa, was blameless with Yahweh, all his days.

Toutefois, les hauts-lieux ne disparurent point; mais le cœur d’Asa resta fidèle à l’Eternel, son Dieu, toute sa vie.

15 And he brought in the hallowed things of his father, and his own hallowed things, into the house of Yahweh, —silver and gold, and vessels.

Il fit porter dans la maison du Seigneur ce que son père et lui-même avaient consacré en fait d’argent, d’or et de vases précieux.

16 And there was, war, between Asa and Baasha king of Israel, all their days.

Il y eut guerre entre lui et Baasa, roi d’Israël, toute leur vie.

17 And Baasha king of Israel came up against Judah, and built Ramah, —so as not to suffer any one to come out or go in unto Asa king of Judah.

Baasa, roi d’Israël, étant venu attaquer Juda, fortifia Rama pour ne pas laisser l’entrée libre à Asa, roi de Juda.

18 So Asa took all the silver and the gold, that were left in the treasuries of the house of Yahweh, and the treasures of the house of the king, and delivered them into the hand of his servants, —and King Asa sent them unto Ben-hadad, son of Tabrimmon, son of Hezion, king of Syria, who dwelt in Damascus, saying:

Alors Asa prit tout l’argent et l’or qui restaient dans les trésors du temple, joints aux trésors de la maison du roi, les remit à ses serviteurs et les envoya à Ben-Hadad, fils de Tabrimmôn, fils de Hezyôn, roi de Syrie, résidant à Damas, avec ces paroles:

19 [Let there be a] covenant between me and thee, [as] between my father and thy father: Lo! I have sent thee a gift, silver and gold, Come break thy covenant with Baasha, king of Israel, that he may go up from against me.

"Toi et moi soyons alliés, comme mon père fut allié du tien. Je t’envoie un cadeau d’argent et d’or, afin que tu rompes ton alliance avec Baasa, roi d’Israël, et qu’il se retire de chez moi."

20 So Ben-hadad hearkened unto King Asa, and sent the generals of the forces which he had, against the cities of Israel, and smote Iyyohn [Ijon], and Dan, and Abel-beth-maacah, —and all Chinneroth, against all the land of Naphtali.

Ben-Hadad, accédant à la demande d’Asa, envoya ses généraux contre les villes d’Israël, et prit de vive force Iyyôn, Dan, Abel-Beth-Maakha, toute la région de Kinnerot avec tout le territoire de Nephtali.

21 And it came to pass, when Baasha heard thereof, he left off building Ramah, —and returned to Tirzah.

Lorsque Baasa en fut informé, il renonça à fortifier Rama et s’établit à Tirça.

22 And, King Asa, published it unto all Judah, none was exempted, so they carried away the stones of Ramah, and the beams thereof, wherewith Baasha had built, —and King Asa built therewith Geba of Benjamin, and Mizpah.

Le roi Asa convoqua alors tous les gens de Juda, sans dispenser personne; et ils enlevèrent les pierres et le bois employés par Baasa aux travaux de Rama; Asa s’en servit pour fortifier Ghéba-en-Benjamin et Miçpa.

23 Now, the rest of all the story of Asa, and all his might, and all that he did and the cities which he built, are, they, not written in the book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? Howbeit, in the time of his old age, he was diseased in his feet.

Pour le surplus de l’histoire d’Asa, ses exploits et ses travaux, et les villes qu’il a bâties, tous ces faits sont consignés dans le livre des annales des rois de Juda; il est à noter seulement que, dans sa vieillesse, il eut les pieds malades.

24 So then Asa slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers, in the city of David his father, —and, Jehoshaphat his son, reigned, in his stead.

Asa s’endormit avec ses pères et fut inhumé auprès d’eux dans la Cité de David, son aïeul. Josaphat, son fils, régna à sa place.

25 Now, Nadab son of Jeroboam, began to reign over Israel, in the second year of Asa king of Judah, —and he reigned over Israel, two years.

Nadab, fils de Jéroboam, devint roi d’Israël la seconde année du règne d’Asa, roi de Juda, et régna deux ans sur Israël.

26 And he did the thing that was wicked in the eyes of Yahweh, —and walked in the way of his father, and in his sin, wherewith he caused, Israel, to sin.

Il fit ce qui déplaît à l’Eternel, imitant la conduite de son père et les péchés qu’il avait fait commettre à Israël.

27 And Baasha son of Ahijah, of the house of Issachar, conspired against him, and Baasha smote him in Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines, —Nadab and all Israel being in siege against Gibbethon.

Baasa, fils d’Ahiyya, de la maison d’Issachar, conspira contre lui et le fit périr à Ghibetôn, ville des Philistins, tandis que Nadab et tout Israël assiégeaient cette ville.

28 And Baasha slew him, in the third year of Asa king of Judah, —and reigned in his stead.

C’Est la troisième année du règne d’Asa, roi de Juda, que Baasa tua Nadab, à qui il succéda.

29 And it came to pass, when he became king, that he smote all the house of Jeroboam, he left not remaining any breathing thing pertaining to Jeroboam, until he had destroyed him, —according to the word of Yahweh, which he spake by the hand of his servant Ahijah the Shilonite:

Devenu roi, il extermina toute la famille de Jéroboam, n’en épargnant pas une âme, jusqu’à ce qu’il l’eût anéantie, ainsi que le Seigneur l’avait annoncé par l’organe de son serviteur Ahiyya, de Silo,

30 for the sins of Jeroboam which he committed, and which he caused, Israel, to commit, —by his provocation wherewith he provoked to anger Yahweh God of Israel.

à cause des péchés que Jéroboam avait commis et fait commettre à Israël, provoquant ainsi la colère du Seigneur, Dieu d’Israël.

31 Now, the rest of the story of Nadab, and all that he did, are, they, not written in the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel?

Quant au reste de l’histoire et des actes de Nadab, ils sont consignés dans le livre des annales des rois d’Israël.

32 And there was, war, between Asa and Baasha king of Israel, all their days.

Il y eut guerre entre Asa et Baasa, toute leur vie.

33 In the third year of Asa king of Judah, began Baasha, son of Ahijah, to reign over all Israel, in Tirzah, [and he reigned] twenty-four years.

C’Est dans la troisième année d’Asa, roi de Juda, que Baasa, fils d’Ahiyya, devint roi de tout Israël; il résida à Tirça et régna vingt-quatre ans.

34 And he did that which was wicked in the eyes of Yahweh, —and walked in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin wherewith he caused, Israel, to sin.

Il fit ce qui déplaît au Seigneur, imitant la conduite de Jéroboam et les péchés qu’il avait fait commettre à Israël.
