< 1 Kings 12 >

1 And Rehoboam went to Shechem, —for, to Shechem, had all Israel come to make him king.
Rehoboam te manghai sak hamla Israel pum loh Shekhem la a pawk dongah anih khaw Shekhem la cet.
2 And it came to pass, when Jeroboam son of Nebat heard of it—he being yet in Egypt, whither he had fled from the face of Solomon the king, that Jeroboam returned from Egypt;
Te tla a om neh Nebat capa Jeroboam loh a yaak dae amah te Egypt ah om pueng. Manghai Solomon mikhmuh lamloh a yong phoeiah Jeroboam he Egypt ah kho a sak.
3 yes they sent, and called him, and Jeroboam and all the convocation of Israel came, —and spake unto Rehoboam, saying:
Te vaengah a tah uh vanbangla a taengla a khue uh. Te dongah Jeroboam neh Israel hlangping boeih te cet tih a pha uh vaengah Rehoboam te a voek uh.
4 Thy father, made our yoke, grievous, —now, therefore do, thou, lighten the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, that we may serve thee.
“Na pa loh kaimih kah hnamkun he a siing coeng. Tedae namah loh na pa kah thohtatnah mangkhak lamloh, kaimih soah a hnamkun khak a khueh lamloh yanghoep sak laeh. Te daengah ni nang taengah ka thohtat uh eh,” a ti uh.
5 And he said unto them—Depart ye for yet three days, and then come again unto me. And the people departed.
Tedae amih te, “Cet uh lamtah a thum hnin phoeiah ka taengla ha mael uh,” a ti nah tih pilnam khaw cet.
6 Then King Rehoboam consulted the elders who used to stand before Solomon his father, while he yet lived, saying, —How do, ye, advise, that I answer this people?
Te dongah manghai Rehoboam loh a ham rhoek te a dawt. Te rhoek te a napa Solomon amah a hingnah a om vaengkah a mikhmuh ah aka pai la om uh. Amih te, “Nangmih ta, he ol pilnam taengah metla metla mael ham khaw thui uh lah,” a ti nah.
7 And they spake unto him, saying—If, to-day, thou wilt be servant unto this people, and wilt serve them, —and answer them kindly, and speak unto them good words, then will they be, thy, servants, always.
A thui uh phoeiah amah te a voek uh tih, “Tahe khohnin ah pilnam taengah he sal la om mai lamtah amih taengah thotat mai. Amih te na doo vaengah a taengah ol then thui lamtah hnin takuem nang taengah sal la om bitni,” a ti nauh.
8 But he declined the counsel of the elders which they gave him, and consulted with the young men, who had grown up with him, who were standing before himself;
Tedae a ham rhoek kah cilsuep a paek te a voeih. Amah neh aka pantai hang tih a mikhmuh ah aka pai camoe rhoek te a dawt.
9 and said unto them—What counsel do, ye, give as to how we shall answer this people who have spoken unto me, saying—Make a lightening of the yoke which thy father put upon us?
Te vaengah amih te, “Kai taengah, 'Na pa loh kaimih soah a tloeng hnamkun lamloh n'yanghoep sak,’ a ti tih aka thui pilnam he ol mael ham metlam na thui eh?,” a ti nah.
10 Then spake unto him the young men who had grown up with him, saying, Thus, shalt thou say to this people that have spoken unto thee, saying—Thy father, made our yoke heavy, thou, therefore lighten it upon us, Thus, shalt thou speak unto them, My little finger, is thicker than my father’s loins;
Te dongah anih te amah neh aka pantai hmaih camoe rhoek loh a doo uh tih, “Nang taengah cal uh tih, 'Na pa loh kaimih kah hnamkun a siing coeng dae nang loh kaimih dong lamkah hang hawl sak,’ aka ti pilnam taengah he he thui pah. Amih te, 'Ka kutca he a pa kah cinghen lakah putsut.
11 Now, therefore, whereas, my father, laid upon you a heavy yoke, I, will add to your yoke, —My father, did chastise you with whips, but, I, will chastise you with scorpions.
A pa loh nangmih soah hnamkun a rhih a tloeng coeng. Tedae kai loh nangmih kah hnamkun te ka koei pueng ni. A pa loh nangmih te rhuihet neh n'toel dae kai loh nangmih te saelkhui ta-ai neh kan toel ni, 'ti tah,” a ti uh.
12 So Jeroboam and all the people came in unto Rehoboam, on the third day, —as the king had bidden, saying—Come again unto me, on the third day.
A caeh vaengah tah manghai loh a uen tih, “A thum hnin ah kai taengla ha mael uh,” a ti nah van bangla Jeroboam neh pilnam boeih te a thum hnin ah Rehoboam taengla pawk.
13 And the king answered the people, harshly, —and declined the counsel of the elders wherewith they had counselled him;
Te vaengah manghai loh pilnam te mat a voek tih a ham rhoek kah cilsuep a paek te khaw a voeih.
14 and spake unto them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father, made your yoke heavy, but, I, will add unto your yoke, —My father, chastised you, with whips, but, I, will chastise you, with scorpions.
Te dongah camoe kah cilsuep bangla amih te a voek tih, “A pa loh nangmih kah hnamkun te a siing coeng. Tedae kai loh nangmih kah hnamkun te ka koei ni. A pa loh nangmih te rhuihet neh n'toel dae kai loh nangmih te saelkhui ta-ai neh kan toel ni,” a ti nah.
15 Thus the king hearkened not unto the people, —for there had come about a turn from Yahweh, that he might establish his word, which Yahweh had spoken by Ahijah the Shilonite, unto Jeroboam, son of Nebat.
BOEIPA loh Nebat capa Jeroboam ham Shiloh Ahijah kut lamloh a thui bangla, a ol te thoeng sak ham BOEIPA taeng lamloh sainah a om dongah ni, manghai loh pilnam taengkah a hnatun pawh.
16 So when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying—What portion have, we, in, David. Or inheritance in the son of Jesse? To your homes O Israel! Now, see to thine own house, O David! And Israel departed to their homes.
Manghai loh amih taengkah hnatun pawt te Israel pum loh a hmuh. Te dongah pilnam loh manghai te ol a mael tih, “David khuiah kaimih kah khoyo te menim? Israel nang kah dap te Jesse koca khuikah rho moenih. David, na im hmu laeh he,” a ti uh. Te phoeiah Israel rhoek te a dap la cet uh.
17 But, as for the sons of Israel who were dwelling in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.
Te dongah Israel ca rhoek tah Judah khopuei rhoek ah kho a sak uh tih amih soah Rehoboam te manghai.
18 Then King Rehoboam sent Adoniram who was over the tribute, but all Israel stoned him with stones, that he died, —King Rehoboam, therefore, hastily mounted his chariot, to flee unto Jerusalem.
Te vaengah manghai Rehoboam loh saldong aka pai thil Adoram te a tueih hatah Israel pum loh anih te lungto neh a dae tih duek. Tedae manghai Rehoboam tah leng dongah luei ham huel uh tih Jerusalem la rhaelrham.
19 So Israel rebelled against the house of David, —unto this day.
Te dong tahae khohnin duela Israel loh David imkhui boe a koek thil.
20 And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned, that they sent and called him into the assembly, and made him king over all Israel, —there were none that followed the house of David, saving the tribe of Judah only.
Jeroboam a mael te Israel pum loh a yaak vaengah tah anih te a tah uh tih rhaengpuei taengla a khue uh. Te phoeiah anih te Israel boeih soah a manghai sakuh. Tedae Judah koca bueng phoeiah tah David imkhui hnukah a om moenih.
21 And, when Rehoboam entered Jerusalem, he called together all the house of Judah and the tribe of Benjamin—a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men, able to make war, —to fight against the house of Israel, to bring back the kingdom to Rehoboam, son of Solomon.
Rehoboam te cet tih Jerusalem a pha neh Judah imkhui pum te a coi. Israel imkhui vathoh thil ham neh ram te Solomon capa Rehoboam taengla mael sak ham caemtloek la aka tlun thai te a coelh. Te vaengah Benjamin koca he thawng yakhat neh thawng sawmrhet lo.
22 Then came the word of God unto Shemaiah, the man of God, saying:
Tedae Pathen kah ol tah Pathen kah hlang Shemaiah taengla pawk tih,
23 Speak unto Rehoboam, son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all the house of Judah, and Benjamin, —and the remnant of the people, saying:
“Judah manghai Solomon capa Rehoboam taeng neh Judah imkhui pum taengah thui pah lamtah, Benjamin neh pilnam hlangrhuel taengah khaw thui pah.
24 Thus, saith Yahweh—Ye shall not go up, neither shall ye fight with your brethren the sons of Israel, —return ye every man to his own house, for, from me, hath this thing been brought about. So they hearkened unto the word of Yahweh, and turned back to depart, according to the word of Yahweh.
BOEIPA loh he ni a thui. Cet uh boeh, na manuca Israel ca rhoek te vathoh uh thil boeh. He ol he kamah taeng lamloh a om dongah hlang he amah im la mael saeh,” a ti nah. BOEIPA ol te a yaak vaengah tah BOEIPA ol bangla caeh ham mael uh.
25 Then Jeroboam built Shechem, in the hill country of Ephraim, and dwelt therein, —and went forth from thence, and built Penuel.
Jeroboam loh Ephraim tlang ah Shekhem te a thoh tih a khuiah kho a sak. Te lamloh puen uh tih Penuel te a thoh.
26 And Jeroboam said in his heart, —Now, shall the kingdom return to the house of David:
Te vaengah Jeroboam loh a lungbuei neh, “Ram he David imkhui la mael laeh mako.
27 If this people go up to offer sacrifices in the house of Yahweh, in Jerusalem, then will the heart of this people return unto their lord, unto Rehoboam, king of Judah, —and they will slay me, and return unto Rehoboam, king of Judah.
Pilnam he Jerusalem kah BOEIPA im ah hmueih nawn ham cet tih pilnam kah lungbuei he a boei Judah manghai Rehoboam taengla mael khaming. Te vaengah kai n'ngawn uh vetih Judah manghai Rehoboam taengla mael uh ni,” a ti.
28 Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold, —and said unto them—It is, too much for you, to go up to Jerusalem, Lo! thy gods, O Israel, that brought thee up out of the land of Egypt;
Te dongah manghai loh a poek tih sui vaitoca rhoi te a saii. Te phoeiah amih te, “Jerusalem la caeh ham khaw nangmih ham rhaisang aih. Egypt khohmuen lamloh nang aka khuen Israel nang kah pathen rhoi he,” a ti nah.
29 And he set the one in Bethel, —and, the other, put he in Dan.
Te phoeiah pakhat te Bethel ah a khueh tih pakhat te Dan ah a khueh.
30 And this thing became a sin, —and the people went before the one, as far as Dan.
Pilnam he Dan hil a mikhmuh ah huek a caeh uh dongah hekah hno he tholhnah la om coeng.
31 And he made a house of high-places, —and made priests from the whole compass of the people, who were not of the sons of Levi.
Hmuensang kah im te a saii tih Levi koca lamkah aka om mueh khobawt pilnam lamkah te khosoih la a saii.
32 And Jeroboam made a festival in the eight month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like the festival which [was held] in Judah, and offered up on the altar, likewise, did he in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves which he had made, —and he kept in attendance in Bethel, the priests of the high-places which he had made.
Jeroboam loh a hla rhet dongkah hlasae hnin hlai nga vaengah te Judah kah khotue bangla khotue a phueng. Vaitoca taengah nawn ham a saii vanbangla Bethel kah a saii hmueihtuk dongah a khuen. Bethel ah khosoih rhoek te a pai sak tih hmuensang khaw a saii.
33 And he offered up on the altar which he had made in Bethel, on the fifteenth day in the eighth month, in the month which he had devised out of his own heart, —thus made he a festival for the sons of Israel, and offered up on the altar, to make a perfume.
Amah lungbuei lamkah bueng neh a thainawn hla dongkah, hla rhet hnin hlai nga vaengah Bethel kah a saii hmueihtuk dongah a nawn. Israel ca rhoek ham khotue a saii pah vaengah hmueih phum ham hmueihtuk te a paan.
