1 Corinthians 11
1 Become imitators of me, —even as, I also, [am] of Christ.
Soyez mes imitateurs, comme je le suis moi-même de Christ.
2 Now I praise you, that, in all things, ye have me in remembrance, and, even as I delivered unto you the instructions, ye hold them fast.
Je vous loue donc de ce que vous vous souvenez de moi en toute occasion, et de ce que vous retenez fidèlement les instructions que je vous ai transmises.
3 But I wish you to know—that, the head of every man, is, the Christ, and, the head of a woman, is, the man; and, the head of the Christ, is, God.
Cependant, je veux que vous le sachiez: le Christ est le chef de tout homme, et l'homme est le chef de la femme, et Dieu est le chef du Christ.
4 Every man, praying, or prophesying, having anything upon his head, putteth to shame his head;
Tout homme qui prie ou qui prophétise, la tête couverte, déshonore son chef.
5 But, every woman, praying, or prophesying, with her head, unveiled, putteth to shame her head, —for it is, one and the same, with her having been shaven.
Mais toute femme qui prie ou qui prophétise sans avoir la tête voilée, déshonore son chef; c'est exactement comme si elle était rasée.
6 For, if a woman doth not veil herself, let her also be shorn; but, if it were a shame in a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be veiled.
Si une femme n'est pas voilée, qu'elle se coupe aussi les cheveux. Mais s'il est malséant pour une femme d'avoir les cheveux coupés ou la tête rasée, qu'elle mette un voile.
7 For, a man, indeed, ought not to be veiling his head, being, the image and glory of God, —but, the woman, is the glory of man;
L'homme, en effet, étant l'image et la gloire de Dieu, ne doit pas se couvrir la tête; mais la femme est la gloire de l'homme.
8 For, man, is not, of woman, but, woman, of man;
Car l'homme n'a pas été tiré de la femme, mais la femme de l'homme;
9 For also man was not created, for the sake of the woman, but woman, for the sake of the man.
et l'homme n'a pas été créé à cause de la femme, mais la femme à cause de l'homme.
10 For this cause, ought the woman to have, permission, upon her head, because of the messengers.
C'est pourquoi, la femme doit avoir sur la tête, à cause des anges, une marque de l'autorité dont elle dépend.
11 Howbeit, neither is woman apart from man, nor man apart from woman—in the Lord;
Toutefois, dans le Seigneur, la femme ne va pas sans l'homme, ni l'homme sans la femme;
12 For, just as the woman is of the man, so, also the man, is through means of the woman; —but, all things, are of God.
car, si la femme a été tirée de l'homme, l'homme aussi naît de la femme, et tout vient de Dieu.
13 Among your own selves, judge ye, —Is it becoming for a woman, —unveiled, to be praying unto God?
Jugez-en vous-mêmes: est-il bienséant qu'une femme prie Dieu sans être voilée?
14 Doth not, even nature herself, teach you—that, if, a man, have long hair, it is a dishonour to him;
La nature elle-même ne vous enseigne-t-elle pas qu'il est honteux, pour l'homme, de laisser croître sa chevelure?
15 But, if, a woman, have long hair, it is a glory to her, for, her long hair, instead of a veil, hath been given to her.
— Au contraire, si la femme porte ses cheveux longs, c'est un honneur pour elle, parce que sa chevelure lui a été donnée pour lui servir de voile.
16 But, if anyone thinketh to be contentious, we, have no such custom, —nor yet the assemblies of God.
Au reste, si quelqu'un se plaît à contester, nous n'avons pas cette habitude, ni les Églises de Dieu non plus.
17 But, in giving you the following charge, I praise you not, —in that, not for the better, but for the worse, ye come together.
En vous donnant cet avertissement, je ne saurais vous louer de ce que vos assemblées, au lieu de vous rendre meilleurs, vous rendent pires.
18 For, first of all, —when ye come together in assembly, I hear that divisions among you exist, —and, in part, I believe it;
Et d'abord, on m'affirme que, lorsque vous avez, dans l'Eglise, une assemblée, il se produit parmi vous des divisions; et j'en crois bien quelque chose.
19 For there must needs be, even parties among you, that, the approved, [themselves] may become manifest among you.
En effet, il faut même qu'il y ait parmi vous des partis différents, afin qu'on puisse reconnaître ceux d'entre vous qui sont vraiment fidèles.
20 When, therefore, ye come together into one place, it is not to eat, a supper unto the Lord;
Quand donc vous vous réunissez dans un même lieu, ce n'est plus la Cène du Seigneur que vous prenez;
21 For, each one, taketh beforehand, his own supper, in your eating, and, one, indeed, is hungry, whereas, another, is drinking to excess.
car, lorsqu'on se met à manger, chacun se hâte de prendre son repas particulier, en sorte que l'un a faim, tandis que l'autre se livre à des excès.
22 What! have ye not houses for your eating and drinking? or, the assembly of God, do ye despise, and, put to shame them who have nothing? What am I to say to you? Shall I praise you? In this, I praise you not.
N'avez-vous pas des maisons pour manger et pour boire? Ou méprisez-vous l'Église de Dieu, et voulez-vous faire honte à ceux qui n'ont rien? Que vous dirai-je? Dois-je vous louer? Non, en cela, je ne vous loue point.
23 For, I myself, received from the Lord—that which I also delivered unto you, —how that, the Lord Jesus, in the night in which he was being delivered up, took a loaf,
En effet, j'ai appris du Seigneur ce que je vous ai aussi enseigné: c'est que le Seigneur Jésus, dans la nuit où il fut livré, prit du pain,
24 And, giving thanks, brake it, and said—This, is my body, which is for you, —this, do ye, in remembrance of me;
et, après avoir rendu grâces, il le rompit et dit: Ceci est mon corps, qui est donné pour vous; faites ceci en mémoire de moi.
25 In the same manner, the cup also, after they had taken supper, saying—This cup, is, the new covenant in my blood, this, do ye, as often soever as ye may be drinking it, in remembrance of me.
De même aussi, après avoir soupé, il prit la coupe et dit: Cette coupe est la nouvelle alliance en mon sang; faites ceci, toutes les fois que vous en boirez, en mémoire de moi.
26 For, as often as ye may be eating this loaf, and, the cup, may be drinking, The death of the Lord, do ye announce, until he come.
Ainsi, toutes les fois que vous mangez de ce pain, et que vous buvez de cette coupe, vous annoncez la mort du Seigneur, jusqu'à ce qu'il vienne.
27 So that, whosoever may be eating the loaf, or drinking the cup of the Lord, in an unworthy manner, shall be responsible for the body and blood of the Lord.
C'est pourquoi, quiconque mangera le pain ou boira la coupe du Seigneur indignement, sera coupable envers le corps et le sang du Seigneur.
28 But let a man be proving himself, —and, so, of the loaf, let him eat, and, of the cup, let him drink;
Que chacun donc s'éprouve soi-même, et qu'ainsi il mange de ce pain et boive de cette coupe;
29 For, he that is eating and drinking, —judgment unto himself, doth eat and drink, —if he be not setting apart the body.
car celui qui en mange et qui en boit sans discerner le corps du Seigneur, mange et boit son propre jugement.
30 For this cause, many among you are weak and sickly; and, not a few, are falling asleep.
C'est pour cela qu'il y a parmi vous beaucoup d'infirmes et de malades, et que plusieurs sont morts.
31 If, however, we had been setting, ourselves, apart, we had not, in that case, been coming under judgment;
Si nous savions nous juger nous-mêmes, nous ne serions pas jugés.
32 But, being brought under judgment, by the Lord, are we being disciplined, lest, with the world, we should be condemned.
Mais quand nous sommes jugés par le Seigneur, nous sommes châtiés par lui, afin que nous ne soyons pas condamnés avec le monde.
33 So then, my brethren, —when ye come together for the eating, unto one another, be giving welcome: —
Ainsi donc, mes frères, lorsque vous vous réunissez pour manger ensemble, attendez-vous les uns les autres.
34 If anyone be hungry, at home, let him eat, lest, unto judgment, ye be coming together. And, the remaining things, whensoever I come, I will set in order.
Et si quelqu'un a faim, qu'il mange chez lui, afin que vous ne vous assembliez pas pour attirer un jugement sur vous. Quant aux autres points, je les réglerai lorsque je serai arrivé.
