1 Chronicles 19
1 And it came to pass, after this, that Nahash king of the sons of Ammon died, —and Hanun his son reigned in his stead.
Danach begab es sich, daß der Ammoniterkönig Nahas starb und sein Sohn (Hanun) ihm in der Regierung nachfolgte.
2 Then said David—I will show lovingkindness unto Hanun, son of Nahash, —for his father shewed unto me lovingkindness. So David sent messengers to console him concerning his father, —and the servants of David came into the land of the sons of Ammon unto Hanun, to console him.
Da dachte David: »Ich will mich freundlich gegen Hanun, den Sohn des Nahas, beweisen, weil sein Vater sich mir gegenüber freundlich bewiesen hat.« So schickte denn David Gesandte hin, um ihm sein Beileid wegen (des Todes) seines Vaters ausdrücken zu lassen. Als aber die Gesandten Davids im Lande der Ammoniter bei Hanun angekommen waren, um ihm das Beileid zu bezeugen,
3 Then said the rulers of the sons of Ammon unto Hanun, Doth David honour thy father in thine eyes, that he hath sent to thee comforters? Is it not, for the sake of exploring and overthrowing, and spying out the land, that his servants have come to thee?
sagten die Fürsten der Ammoniter zu Hanun: »Meinst du etwa, daß David Beileidsgesandte an dich deshalb geschickt hat, um deinem Vater eine Ehre zu erweisen? Nein, offenbar sind seine Gesandten nur deshalb zu dir gekommen, um das Land gründlich auszukundschaften und um zu spionieren.«
4 So Hanun took the servants of David, and shaved them, and cut off their upper garments in the middle, as far as their parts of shame, —and let them go.
Da ließ Hanun die Gesandten Davids festnehmen, ließ sie scheren und ihnen die Röcke halb abschneiden bis unter den Gürtel und entließ sie dann.
5 And people went and told David, concerning the men, so he sent to meet them, because the men were greatly ashamed, —and the king said—Tarry at Jericho, until your beards be grown, and then return.
So machten sie sich denn auf den Weg. Als man nun dem David meldete, was den Männern geschehen war, schickte er ihnen Boten entgegen – denn die Männer waren schwer beschimpft –; und der König ließ ihnen sagen: »Bleibt in Jericho, bis euch der Bart wieder gewachsen ist: dann kehrt zurück!«
6 And, when the sons of Ammon saw, that they had made themselves odious with David, Hanun and the sons of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver, to hire for themselves—out of Mesopotamia, and out of Aram-maacah, and out of Zobah, —chariots, and horsemen.
Als nun die Ammoniter einsahen, daß sie David tödlich beleidigt hatten, schickten Hanun und die Ammoniter tausend Talente Silber hin, um von den Syrern in Mesopotamien und von den Syrern in Maacha und in Zoba Kriegswagen und Reiter in Sold zu nehmen.
7 So they hired for themselves thirty-two thousand chariots, and the king of Maacah, and his people, who came and pitched before Medeba, —and the sons of Ammon gathered themselves together out of their cities, and entered into the war.
So nahmen sie denn 32000 Wagen in ihren Dienst, dazu den König von Maacha mit seinem Heere; die kamen und lagerten sich vor Medeba; die Ammoniter aber sammelten sich auch aus ihren Ortschaften und rückten zum Kampf ins Feld.
8 Now, when David heard, he sent Joab and all the army of heroes.
Als David das erfuhr, ließ er Joab mit dem ganzen Heer, auch den Rittern, ausrücken.
9 And the sons of Ammon came out, and set in array for the battle, at the opening of the city, —whereas, the kings who had come, were by themselves, in the field.
Die Ammoniter zogen dann aus der Stadt hinaus und stellten sich vor dem Stadttor in Schlachtordnung auf, während die Könige, die herbeigekommen waren, für sich im freien Felde standen.
10 So, when Joab saw that the battle confronted him, before and behind, —he chose out of all the choice in Israel, and set in array to meet the Syrians;
Als nun Joab sah, daß ihm sowohl von vorn als auch im Rücken ein Angriff drohe, nahm er aus allen auserlesenen israelitischen Kriegern eine Auswahl vor und stellte sich mit ihnen den Syrern gegenüber auf;
11 and, the rest of the people, delivered he into the hand of Abishai his brother, —and they set in array, to meet the sons of Ammon.
den Rest des Heeres aber überwies er seinem Bruder Abisai, damit sie sich den Ammonitern gegenüber aufstellten.
12 And he said—If, too strong for me, be the Syrians, then shalt thou come to my help, —but, if, the sons of Ammon, be too strong for thee, then will I help thee.
Dann sagte er: »Wenn die Syrer mir zu stark sind, so kommst du mir zu Hilfe; und wenn die Ammoniter dir überlegen sind, so komme ich dir zu Hilfe.
13 Be strong, and let us put forth our strength, for the sake of our people, and for the sake of the cities of our God, —and let, Yahweh, do, what is good in his own eyes.
Nur Mut! Wir wollen tapfer kämpfen für unser Volk und für die Städte unsers Gottes; der HERR aber möge tun, was ihm wohlgefällt!«
14 Then did Joab, and all the people who were with him, draw near before the Syrians unto the battle, —and they fled from before him.
Darauf rückte Joab mit der Mannschaft, die unter seinem Befehl stand, zum Angriff gegen die Syrer vor, und diese wandten sich vor ihm zur Flucht;
15 And, when, the sons of Ammon, saw that the Syrians had fled, then fled, they also, from before Abishai his brother, and entered the city, —and Joab came to Jerusalem.
und als die Ammoniter die Flucht der Syrer (vor Joab) gewahrten, flohen auch sie vor seinem Bruder Abisai und zogen sich in die Stadt zurück. Joab aber kehrte nach Jerusalem zurück.
16 And when the Syrians saw that they had been defeated before Israel, then sent they messengers, and brought out the Syrians who were Beyond the River, —with Shophach captain of the army of Hadarezer, before them.
Als nun die Syrer sich von den Israeliten geschlagen sahen, sandten sie Boten hin und ließen die Syrer von jenseits des Euphrats ins Feld rücken, und zwar unter der Führung Sophachs, des Feldherrn Hadaresers.
17 And it was told David, and he gathered together all Israel, and crossed the Jordan, and came unto them, and set in array against them, —and, when David had set in array against the Syrians for battle, they fought with him.
Auf die Kunde hiervon bot David ganz Israel zum Kriege auf, überschritt den Jordan und gelangte (nach Helam). Als David sich dann den Syrern gegenüber in Schlachtordnung aufgestellt hatte und sie handgemein mit ihnen geworden waren,
18 And the Syrians fled from before Israel, and David slew of the Syrians [the men of] seven thousand chariots, and forty thousand footmen, —and, Shophach captain of the army, he put to death.
wurden die Syrer von den Israeliten in die Flucht geschlagen, und David erschlug von den Syrern 7000 Wagenkämpfer und 40000 Mann Fußvolk; auch den Feldherrn Sophach tötete er.
19 And, when the servants of Hadarezer saw that they were defeated before Israel, they made peace with David and served him, —neither would the Syrians help the sons of Ammon any more.
Als sich nun die Leute Hadaresers von den Israeliten besiegt sahen, schlossen sie Frieden mit David und unterwarfen sich ihm. Infolgedessen hatten auch die Syrer keine Lust mehr, den Ammonitern noch Hilfe zu leisten.
