1 Then did all Israel gather themselves together to David, unto Hebron, saying, —Lo! thy bone and thy flesh, are we.

رهبران اسرائیل به حبرون نزد داوود رفتند و به او گفتند: «ما گوشت و استخوان تو هستیم؛

2 Moreover also, in time past even when Saul was king, thou, wast he that led out and brought in Israel, —and Yahweh thy God said unto thee, Thou, shalt shepherd my people Israel, Yea, thou, shalt be chief ruler, over my people Israel.

حتی زمانی که شائول پادشاه بود، سپاهیان ما را تو به جنگ می‌بردی و به سلامت بر می‌گرداندی؛ و خداوند، خدایت فرموده است که تو باید شبان و رهبر قوم او باشی.»

3 Thus came all the elders of Israel unto the king, to Hebron, and David solemnised to them a covenant in Hebron, before Yahweh, —and they anointed David to be king over Israel, according to the word of Yahweh, through Samuel.

پس در حبرون داوود در حضور خداوند با رهبران اسرائیل عهد بست و ایشان همان‌طور که خداوند به سموئیل فرموده بود، او را به عنوان پادشاه اسرائیل انتخاب کردند.

4 Then went David and all Israel to Jerusalem, the same, was Jebus, —where were the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land.

سپس داوود و آن رهبران به اورشلیم که محل سکونت یبوسی‌ها بود و یبوس نیز نامیده می‌شد، رفتند.

5 And the inhabitants of Jebus said unto David, Thou shalt not come in hither, —But David captured the citadel of Zion, the same, is the city of David.

ولی اهالی یبوس از ورود آنها به شهر جلوگیری کردند. پس داوود قلعهٔ صهیون را که بعد به «شهر داوود» معروف شد، تسخیر کرد

6 And David said, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites, first, shall become a chief, and a ruler, —So then Joab son of Zeruiah, went up first, and became a chief.

و به افراد خود گفت: «اولین کسی که به یبوسی‌ها حمله کند، فرماندهٔ سپاه خواهد شد.» یوآب پسر صرویه اولین کسی بود که به یبوسی‌ها حمله کرد؛ پس مقام فرماندهی سپاه داوود به او داده شد.

7 And David dwelt in the citadel, —for this cause, did they call it, The City of David.

داوود در آن قلعه ساکن شد و به همین جهت آن قسمت از شهر اورشلیم را شهر داوود نامیدند.

8 And he built the city round about, from Millo even as far as the circuit, —but, Joab, suffered the remainder of the city to live.

داوود بخش قدیمی شهر را که اطراف قلعه بود به سمت بیرون وسعت داد و یوآب بقیهٔ شهر اورشلیم را تعمیر کرد.

9 Thus did David wax greater and yet greater, —and, Yahweh of Hosts, was with him.

به این ترتیب روز‌به‌روز بر قدرت و نفوذ داوود افزوده می‌شد، زیرا خداوند لشکرهای آسمان با او بود.

10 Now, these, are the chiefs of the heroes, that pertained to David, who held strongly with him in his kingdom, with all Israel, to make him king, —according to the word of Yahweh, concerning Israel.

این است اسامی سربازان شجاع داوود که همراه قوم اسرائیل او را مطابق کلام خداوند، پادشاه خود ساختند و سلطنت او را استوار نمودند:

11 And, this, is the number of the heroes who pertained to David, —Jashobeam son of a Hachmonite, chief of the thirty, the same, brandished his spear over three hundred—slain at one time.

یشبعام (مردی از اهالی حکمون) فرماندهٔ افسران شجاع داوود پادشاه بود. او یکبار با نیزه خود سیصد نفر را کشت.

12 And, after him, was Eleazar son of Dodai, the Ahohite, —he, was among the three heroes;

العازار پسر دودو، از خاندان اخوخ در رتبهٔ دوم قرار داشت.

13 he, was with David in Pas-dammim, where, the Philistines, were gathered together to battle, and there was a field-plot full of barley, —and, the people, fled, from before the Philistines;

او در جنگی که با فلسطینی‌ها در فَسدَمیم درگرفت، داوود را همراهی می‌کرد. در محلی که مزرعهٔ جو بود، سپاه اسرائیل در برابر فلسطینی‌ها تاب نیاوردند و پا به فرار گذاشتند،

14 so they took their stand in the midst of the plot and rescued it, and smote the Philistines, —and Yahweh wrought a great victory.

ولی العازار و افرادش در آن مزرعهٔ جو در برابر فلسطینی‌ها ایستادگی کردند و آنها را شکست دادند و خداوند پیروزی بزرگی نصیب ایشان نمود.

15 And three of the thirty chiefs went down upon the rock, unto David, into the cave of Adullam, —a host of Philistines, being encamped in the vale of Rephaim.

در حالی که عده‌ای از فلسطینی‌ها در درهٔ رفائیم اردو زده بودند، سه نفر از سی سردار شجاع داوود پیش او که در غار عدولام پنهان شده بود، رفتند.

16 Now, David, then was in the stronghold, —and, a garrison of Philistines, then was in Bethlehem.

داوود در پناهگاه خود بود و اردوی فلسطینی‌ها در بیت‌لحم مستقر شده بود.

17 And David longed, and said—Who will give me to drink of the water, out of the well of Bethlehem, that is within the gate?

در این هنگام داوود گفت: «چقدر دلم می‌خواهد از آب چاهی که نزدیک دروازهٔ بیت‌لحم است بنوشم!»

18 And the three brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was within the gate, and bare it, and brought it in unto David, —yet would not David drink it, but poured it out unto Yahweh;

پس آن سه سردار قلب اردوی فلسطینی‌ها را شکافته، از آن گذشتند و از آن چاه آب کشیدند و برای داوود آوردند. ولی داوود آن آب را ننوشید، بلکه آن را چون هدیه به حضور خداوند ریخت

19 and said—Far be it from me, of my God, that I should do this! The blood of these men, shall I drink, with their lives? For, with their lives, have they brought it! So he would not drink it. These things, did the three heroes.

و گفت: «نه ای خدا، من این آب را نمی‌نوشم! این آب، خون این سه نفر است که برای آوردنش جان خود را به خطر انداختند.»

20 And, Abishai brother of Joab—he, was the chief of three, he, having brandished his spear against three hundred—who were slain, —and so, he, had a name among three.

ابیشای برادر یوآب، فرماندهٔ آن سه نفر بود. او یکبار با کشتن سیصد نفر با نیزهٔ خود، مانند آن سه نفر معروف شد.

21 Of the three in the second rank, was he honourable, therefore became he their captain, —though, unto the [first] three, did he not attain.

هر چند ابیشای رئیس آن سه دلاور و معروفتر از ایشان بود، ولی جزو آن سه نفر محسوب نمی‌شد.

22 Benaiah, son of Jehoiada, son of a man of valour, hero of many a deed, from Kabziel—he, smote the two [sons] of Ariel of Moab, he, also went down and smote a lion in the midst of a pit, in time of snow;

بنایا پسر یهویاداع اهل قبصئیل، سرباز معروفی بود و کارهای متهورانه انجام می‌داد. بنایا دو سردار معروف موآبی را کشت. او همچنین در یک روز برفی به حفره‌ای داخل شد و شیری را کشت.

23 he, also smote an Egyptian, a man of [great] stature, five cubits, and, in the hand of the Egyptian, was a spear like a weaver’s beam, so he went down unto him with a staff, —and wrested the spear out of the hand of the Egyptian, and slew him with his spear.

یکبار با یک چوبدستی یک جنگجوی مصری را که قدش دو متر و نیم و نیزه‌اش به کلفتی چوب نساجان بود، از پای درآورد. آن مصری نیزه‌ای در دست داشت و بنایا نیزه را از دست او ربود و وی را با آن نیزه کشت.

24 These things, did Benaiah son of Jehoiada, so, he, had a name among three heroes.

این بود کارهای بنایا که او را مانند سه سردار ارشد معروف ساخت.

25 Among the thirty, lo! honourable, was he, but, unto the [first] three, did he not attain, —howbeit David set him over his council.

او از آن سی نفر معروفتر بود ولی جزو سه سردار ارشد محسوب نمی‌شد. داوود او را به فرماندهی گارد سلطنتی گماشت.

26 Now, the heroes of the forces, were, —Asahel, brother of Joab, Elhanan, son of Dodo, of Bethlehem;

سربازان معروف دیگر داوود پادشاه اینها بودند: عسائیل (برادر یوآب)، الحانان (پسر دودو) اهل بیت‌لحم، شموت اهل هرور، حالص اهل فلونی، عیرا (پسر عقیش) اهل تقوع، ابیعزر اهل عناتوت، سبکای اهل حوشات، عیلای اهل اخوخ، مهرای اهل نطوفات، حالد (پسر بعنه) اهل نطوفات، اتای (پسر ریبای) از جِبعهٔ بنیامین، بنایا اهل فرعاتون، حورای اهل وادیهای جاعش، ابی‌ئیل اهل عربات، عزموت اهل بحروم، الیحبای اهل شعلبون، پسران هاشم اهل جزون، یوناتان (پسر شاجای) اهل حرار، اخیام (پسر ساکار) اهل حرار، الیفال (پسر اور)، حافر اهل مکرات، اخیا اهل فلون، حصرو اهل کرمل، نعرای (پسر ازبای)، یوئیل (برادر ناتان)، مبحار (پسر هجری)، صالق اهل عمون، نحرای اهل بیروت (او سلاحدار سردار یوآب بود)، عیرا اهل یتر، جارب اهل یتر، اوریا اهل حیت، زاباد (پسر احلای)، عدینا (پسر شیزا) از قبیلهٔ رئوبین (او جزو سی و یک رهبر قبیلهٔ رئوبین بود.) حانان (پسر معکه)، یوشافاط از اهالی متنا، عزیا اهل عشتروت، شاماع و یعوئیل (پسران حوتام) اهل عروعیر، یدیعی‌ئیل (پسر شمری)، یوخا (برادر یدیعی‌ئیل) از اهالی تیص، الی‌ئیل اهل محوی، یریبای و یوشویا (پسران الناعم)، یتمه اهل موآب، الی‌ئیل، عوبید و یعسی‌ئیل اهل مصوبات.

27 Shammoth, the Harorite, Helez the Paltite;

28 Ira, son of Ikkesh, the Tekoite, Abiezer, the Anathothite;

29 Sibbecai, the Hushathite, Ilai, the Ahohite;

30 Maharai, the Netophathite, Heled, son of Baanah, the Netophathite;

31 Ithai, son of Ribai, of Gibeah, of the sons of Benjamin, —Benaiah, the Pirathonite;

32 Hurai, of the torrents of Gaash, Abiel the Arbathite;

33 Azmaveth, the Baharumite, Eliahba, the Shaalbonite;

34 the sons of Hashem, the Gizonite, Jonathan, son of Shageh, the Hararite;

35 Ahiam, son of Sacar, the Hararite, Eliphal, son of Ur;

36 Hepher, the Mecherathite, Ahijah the Pelonite;

37 Hezro, the Carmelite, Naarai, son of Ezbai;

38 Joel, brother of Nathan, Mibhar son of Hagri;
