Psalms 53

1 For the Chief Musician; set to Mahalath. Maschil of David. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity; there is none that doeth good.

Pour le chef musicien. Sur l'air de « Mahalath ». Une contemplation de David. L'insensé a dit en son cœur: « Il n'y a point de Dieu. » Ils sont corrompus, et ont commis des iniquités abominables. Il n'y a personne qui fasse le bien.

2 God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek after God.

Dieu regarde du ciel les enfants des hommes, pour voir s'il y en a qui ont compris, qui cherchent Dieu.

3 Every one of them is gone back; they are together become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Chacun d'entre eux est reparti. Ils sont devenus sales ensemble. Il n'y a personne qui fait le bien, non, pas un seul.

4 Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon God.

Les ouvriers de l'iniquité ne connaissent pas, qui dévorent mon peuple comme on mange du pain, et ne font pas appel à Dieu?

5 There were they in great fear, where no fear was: for God hath scattered the bones of him that encampeth against thee; thou hast put them to shame, because God hath rejected them.

Ils étaient dans une grande crainte, là où il n'y avait pas de crainte, car Dieu a dispersé les os de celui qui campe contre vous. Vous leur avez fait honte, parce que Dieu les a rejetés.

6 Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! When God bringeth back the captivity of his people, then shall Jacob rejoice, [and] Israel shall be glad.

Oh, que le salut d'Israël sorte de Sion! Quand Dieu ramène son peuple de la captivité, alors Jacob se réjouira, et Israël se réjouira.
