Psalms 140

1 For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man; preserve me from the violent man:

Untuk pemimpin biduan. Mazmur Daud. Luputkanlah aku, ya TUHAN, dari pada manusia jahat, jagalah aku terhadap orang yang melakukan kekerasan,

2 Which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually do they gather themselves together for war.

yang merancang kejahatan di dalam hati, dan setiap hari menghasut-hasut perang!

3 They have sharpened their tongue like a serpent; adders’ poison is under their lips. (Selah)

Mereka menajamkan lidahnya seperti ular, bisa ular senduk ada di bawah bibirnya. (Sela)

4 Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man: Who have purposed to thrust aside my steps.

Peliharalah aku, ya TUHAN, terhadap tangan orang fasik, jagalah aku terhadap orang yang melakukan kekerasan, yang bermaksud menjatuhkan aku.

5 The proud have hid a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the way side; they have set gins for me. (Selah)

Orang congkak dengan sembunyi memasang jerat terhadap aku, dan mereka membentangkan tali-tali sebagai jaring, di sepanjang jalan mereka menaruh perangkap terhadap aku. (Sela)

6 I said unto the LORD, Thou art my God: give ear unto the voice of my supplications, O LORD.

Aku berkata kepada TUHAN: "Allahku Engkau, berilah telinga, ya TUHAN, kepada suara permohonanku!"

7 O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, thou hast covered my head in the day of battle.

Ya ALLAH, Tuhanku, kekuatan keselamatanku, Engkau menudungi kepalaku pada hari pertarungan senjata.

8 Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked; further not his evil device; [lest] they exalt themselves. (Selah)

Ya TUHAN, jangan penuhi keinginan orang fasik, jangan luluskan tipu rencananya! (Sela)

9 As for the head of those that compass me about, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.

Orang-orang yang mengelilingi aku meninggikan kepala; biarlah bencana yang diucapkan mereka menimpa mereka!

10 Let burning coals fall upon them: let them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, that they rise not up again.

Biarlah Ia menghujani mereka dengan bara api! Biarlah Ia menjatuhkan mereka ke dalam jurang sehingga tidak bangkit lagi!

11 An evil speaker shall not be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him.

Pemfitnah tidak akan diam tetap di bumi; orang yang melakukan kekerasan akan diburu oleh malapetaka.

12 I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the needy.

Aku tahu, bahwa TUHAN akan memberi keadilan kepada orang tertindas, dan membela perkara orang miskin.

13 Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence.

Sungguh, orang-orang benar akan memuji nama-Mu, orang-orang yang jujur akan diam di hadapan-Mu.
