Proverbs 1
1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel:
Paraboles de Salomon, fils de David et roi d’Israël,
2 To know wisdom and instruction; to discern the words of understanding;
Utiles pour connaître la sagesse et la discipline,
3 To receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness and judgment and equity;
Pour comprendre les paroles de la prudence, pour recevoir l’instruction de la doctrine, la justice, et le jugement et l’équité,
4 To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion:
Afin que soit donnée aux tout petits la finesse, à l’adolescent la science et l’intelligence.
5 That the wise man may hear, and increase in learning; and that the man of understanding may attain unto sound counsels:
Le sage, en écoutant, sera plus sage, et l’intelligent possédera les moyens de gouverner.
6 To understand a proverb, and a figure; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.
Il découvrira le proverbe et l’interprétation, les paroles des sages et leurs énigmes.
7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: [but] the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.
La crainte du Seigneur est le principe de la sagesse. La sagesse et la doctrine, les insensés les méprisent.
8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
Écoute, mon fils, la discipline de ton père, et ne rejette pas la loi de ta mère,
9 For they shall be a chaplet of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.
Afin que soit ajouté un agrément à ta tête, et un collier à ton cou.
10 My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.
Mon fils, si des pécheurs veulent l’attirer, n’y acquiesce pas.
11 If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause;
S’ils disent: Viens avec nous, dressons des embûches au sang, cachons des pièges à l’innocent qui ne l’a pas mérité;
12 Let us swallow them up alive as Sheol, and whole, as those that go down into the pit; (Sheol h7585)
Comme l’enfer, engloutissons-le vivant et entier, comme celui qui descend dans la fosse. (Sheol h7585)
13 We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil;
Nous trouverons toutes sortes de biens précieux: nous remplirons nos maisons de dépouilles.
14 Thou shalt cast thy lot among us; we will all have one purse:
Mets ta part avec nous, qu’une seule bourse soit pour nous tous.
15 My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:
Mon fils, ne marche pas avec eux, écarte ton pied de leurs sentiers.
16 For their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed blood.
Car leurs pieds courent au mal, et ils se hâtent afin de verser le sang.
17 For in vain is the net spread, in the eyes of any bird:
Mais en vain l’on jette le filet devant les yeux des oiseaux.
18 And these lay wait for their own blood, they lurk privily for their own lives.
Eux aussi à leur propre sang dressent des embûches, et
19 So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; it taketh away the life of the owners thereof.
Ainsi sont les sentiers de tout avare, ils ravissent lame de tous ceux qui possèdent.
20 Wisdom crieth aloud in the street; she uttereth her voice in the broad places;
La sagesse prêche dehors; dans les places publiques elle élève sa voix;
21 She crieth in the chief place of concourse; at the entering in of the gates, in the city, she uttereth her words:
À la tête des foules elle crie, aux portes de la ville elle profère ses paroles disant:
22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and scorners delight them in scorning, and fools hate knowledge?
Jusques à quand, tout petits enfants, aimerez-vous l’enfance, et les insensés désireront-ils ce qui leur est pernicieux, et les imprudents haïront-ils la science?
23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
Convertissez-vous à mes remontrances: voici que je vous révélerai mon esprit, et que je vous ferai comprendre mes paroles.
24 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;
Parce que j’ai appelé, et que vous avez refusé de m’entendre; que j’ai tendu ma main, et qu’il n’y a eu personne qui m’ait regardé;
25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:
Que vous avez méprisé tous mes conseils, et négligé mes réprimandes:
26 I also will laugh in [the day of] your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;
Moi aussi, à votre mort, je rirai et je me moquerai, lorsque ce que vous craigniez vous sera arrivé.
27 When your fear cometh as a storm, and your calamity cometh on as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish come upon you.
Lorsqu’une calamité arrivera tout d’un coup, et que la mort, comme une tempête, fondra violemment sur vous; quand, viendront sur vous la tribulation et l’angoisse:
28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me diligently, but they shall not find me:
Alors ils m’invoqueront, et je ne les exaucerai pas; dès le matin ils se lèveront, et ils ne me trouveront pas;
29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:
Parce qu’ils ont haï la discipline, et qu’ils n’ont pas reçu la crainte du Seigneur,
30 They would none of my counsel; they despised all my reproof:
Qu’ils n’ont pas acquiescé à mes conseils, qu’ils ont déprécié toutes mes remontrances.
31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.
Aussi ils mangeront les fruits de leurs voies, et ils seront rassasiés de leurs conseils.
32 For the backsliding of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.
L’égarement des tout petits les tuera; et la prospérité des insensés les perdra.
33 But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell securely, and shall be quiet without fear of evil.
Mais celui qui m’écoute reposera sans terreur et jouira de l’abondance, la crainte des maux ayant été enlevée.
